Loved the place but was looking forward to sitting in the hot tub outside and watching the snow come down however they were so dirty you couldn't even see half way to the bottom and the smell coming out was horrible. If it wasn't for that this place would have 5 stars.

It was an amazing experience! The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Very knowledgeable about the trails and hiking spots. We arrived early to park and take our side by side for the day. They allowed us to that, helpful telling us where to park. There is an up scale restaurant across from the lodge with an amazing view off the back. On the second floor they offer hot tubs .. which were a big hit with the kids. The water falls around there are stunning

This is an iconic stop during Sturgis bike week. It’s in Spearfish canyon with great views. You have trails to the falls from the hotel and can have your wine in the big fireplace room or out along the trout laden creek. We love all the rustic furnishings. If you are into the UTV rentals, they are across from the parking lot. Everything was excellent and we hope to spend a week there some day

The hot tubs at the property were disappointing! One hot tub was unbelievably hot and the other one had sooo much chemical in it that it burnt your eyes and was hard to breathe. The bartender in the lounge for the night cap was very slow...

Beautiful location, friendly staff, two nice rooftop hot tubs, a great restaurant on site, comfortable rooms. Multiple hikes to waterfalls on site or a very short drive away. The only things to know ahead of time—1) there are two floors but no elevator, 2) the water in our room smelled strongly of sulfur. I did not see that information in any of the reviews I read. Sulfur water is safe, it’s just kind of gross.

Staff was friendly, had good coffee ready out in the lobby very early in the morning. My wife was impressed that they had soft water to shower in. Her hair turned out amazing for photos. We spent much time at their cozy lounge in the evening after all the hiking. Had breakfast across the street...it was excellent. The hot tubs were set at 104 degrees that evening which is commendable. And ofcourse their location in the heart of that beautiful canyon is remarkable. I am willing to pay more to stay in such a beautiful location...but we do spend considerable money at their bar and also their diner...so as long as the room prices aren't too outrageous...we will look forward to being back.

Beautiful area, can walk to nearby waterfalls, very clean rooms. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Hot tubs needed cleaning and our room looked like there was paint on the carpet from possible recent remodeling. Overall good place to stay.

This hotel is a little out of the way from town but such an awesome ride every time you go back to your hotel. It’s quite clean and overall i peaceful place. Everyone is so nice and helpful. If you need your room cleaned you do have to ask. FYI

I enjoyed my time at Spearfish Canyon. I got lucky and had a two night day in between two rush periods during the summer. The only drawback I saw was the walls are on the thin side and any conversations, which luckily it wasn’t busy, in the hallway can be heard through throughout the room. Other than that, it was beautiful surroundings, fabulous room, enjoyed it.

We really enjoyed our stay at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. It is a beautiful place tucked into a remote and breathtakingly scenic location. I had read some complaints from people saying the WiFi is not very good and they had issues with it, but we had no problems whatsoever with the WiFi, even during the busy Black Hills Rally week. Our room, The Calamity Jane Suite, was well-appointed and very spacious. We loved having the fireplace because, even though we were there in August, it was unseasonably chilly a couple of the days during our stay. We really enjoyed the hot tubs on these cooler evenings also. The only (minor) complaint I can come up with is that it would be great to have an option for a lighter (and less expensive) breakfast at the lodge, rather than having to go to the full-service restaurant across the road. But all-in-all, our stay was wonderful! Spearfish Falls down the trail right across the road is a pretty great bonus, plus Roughlock Falls right up the road or trail too! Plenty of exploring can be done within close proximity to the lodge. Really a great location if you really want to get away from it all!

Stunningly beautiful surroundings with walkable access to some great hikes. Convenient access to rentals and to restaurant (which was quite good). I wouldn’t hate a newer, more comfortable mattress but would wholeheartedly recommend!

The property is beautiful and the staff very friendly. Our room 121 was nice but the transition strip from the bathroom to the carpet is missing so you step on the tack strip which is nails. The toliet is very low and the tolit seat doesn't stay up. That’s a problem if you're a man.

Had reservation in the bridal suite. Hoped for a special time away. Upon arrival, was informed we would not be allowed to eat in dining room. Told there was a private party and guests would have to eat some pizza or drive down the mountain in the rain and wind to find a restaurant. Clearly profit was the lodge's driving force, not guest respect. Young man at check-in was poorly trained.

Beautiful room, great staff, easy walk to Spearfish Falls and restaurant across the road. Setting was spectacular, but it’s a drive into town. Only complaint: service at dinner at restaurant across the street was unbelievably slow. Food was good, not great, but it was so nice to simply walk to dinner. Overall, would highly recommend the lodge.

Beautiful setting with rocky cliffs, streams and waterfalls. Several walking trails just off the property and UTV rental across the road. We rented one and had a great day exploring the area. We had a regular room. It was very clean with comfortable beds and plenty of towels. We spent some time relaxing on the hammocks in the yard next to the creek. We ate a few times in the restaurant and the food was very good. The staff went above and beyond. Wish we could have stayed more than the 2 nights. Just a note, the nearest gas or convenience store is about half-hour away in the nearest towns.

Beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, heavy snow (12+ inches) was unexpected, but awesome scenery. Hiking through snow to neighboring restaurant was a challenge. We were also somewhat overwhelmed by huge number of snowmobile enthusiasts, which severely impeded guest parking availability. The Hot tubs were a real plus for us.

This hotel is a little out of the way from town but such an awesome ride every time you go back to your hotel. It’s quite clean and overall i peaceful place. Everyone is so nice and helpful. If you need your room cleaned you do have to ask. FYI

Loud wedding I was not made aware of until a few hours from arrival driving in from 8+ hours away. Loud dog barking all night. Left at 11pm to get some sleep, all hotels in surrounding area sold out. Ruined our vacation completely as we ended up driving home this night.

The location is beautiful and hiking to waterfalls amazing. We stayed two nights for the beauty of the canyon and that gets a 10. The wedding tents on the front lawn definitely takes away from the appearance of the lodge. Never could get a good picture. Rooms are basic. The one restaurant makes you drive to town to eat or bring your own. Fireplace in lobby beautiful. Spearfish canyon is beautiful and worth seeing

Location is spectacular. Really disappointed when I was informed on arrival that the Latchstring restaurant was closed that day for a private party. The only other food option was overpriced frozen pizza in the "lounge". A notification of the situation before arrival would have been appreciated.

It's very clean and the location is very beautiful. Some what pricey on food and snack items. But the Staff was very courteous and helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant across from the Lodge the staff was very awesome. Food was delicious even though it was expensive.

The Spearfish Canyon lodge was excellent. Everything you need is right there. Fabulous restaurant, great bar and wonderful staff. We enjoyed the lodge feel. Nice outdoor area. Easy to get to hiking trials to waterfalls.

I really enjoyed the lodge atmosphere of the property, especially with the large fireplace in the lobby sitting area. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant was very good, although a bit pricey. Views were superb with the flowing creek and canyon walls around. Most scenic place I've stayed at in years. Worth a visit.

Room was clean and comfortable, and the rustic lounge was welcoming and enjoyable. Excellent coffee in the morning is free to guests. Food options are limited, and the one restaurant across the street served very good food, but was quite expensive. Driving to the town of Spearfish isn't a practical option, especially navigating the canyon after dark.

Loved the outdoor hot tub. We had a beautiful view of the sunset. Will stay here again. But, will not eat at the restaurant across the street again. They do not clean/wash/wipe down their tables. Our table that they seated us at was dirty and we witnessed other tables not being wiped down. So gross.

It's a wonderful place to stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved being able to walk out the door and be on a hiking trail. It is a little remote but worth the drive.
