Was advertised as a ‘good’ hotel. That is true. No more than that. More like a motel, not boutique hotel. Says daily maid service and bicycle rentals- neither of those existed. Had to ask for more toilet paper. Did not ask for maid service as we did not want it. Shampoo and shower gel available but no conditioner. No beach chairs available even though directly on the beach. Can walk to town but it is about .75 miles on the road or 0.5 on the beach. No specific area to wash sand off feet when returning. Restaurant staff friendly. Would probably stay somewhere else next time.

Being ocean front was wonderful, and the restaurant and beach front area were well taken care of. However, the room was outdated, and the pool wasn't well maintained.

It's a nice little 5 room motel behind a very good restaurant. The first night we were put in room 1, which was not great. Second night we stayed in room 2 which was much better. Staff was really excellent and very nice. Pool and garden area are small, but lovely and well maintained. We had 3 meals at the restaurant, and they were all excellent. Beach out front is really great too. I would definitely stay here again when I return.

We planned this location to celebrate our 20th anniversary because it was right on the beach. The location was perfect, walking distance to Coco about 1/5 mile, right on the beach, and walking distance to several restaurants. It does not have any breakfast available, but the ladies in the morning are happy to refill the coffee for coffee service in the room. The air conditioning worked great in the room and the bed was comfortable. There was a refrigerator to keep a few things and when asked for water and ice, the restaurant staff was very helpful. The pool was also very clean even though it was older. This could be a cute little boutique hotel with a few improvements in the rooms and bathroom. We had hot water in the shower, the door didn't shut but no hot water in the sink. And the lighting was non existent in the bathroom. There was no way for my husband to shave at the sink. The other thing is we never ate at the restaurant. It was fairly expensive even compared to others. We had a few drinks and those were very expensive also. They did have a good selection of alcohol. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful, but had a lot of down time. Overall, we had a great experience and enjoyed ourselves. The staff was wonderful. All of the outside areas were always neat and tidy and well kept.

Nice cafe/ beachfront, that’s about. Rooms reminded me of a worn out Super 8 motel in the US. Second night there was , not only booming bass music from the hotel, but from some place Nextdoor/ and it went on until 3 in the morning. None of the guest could sleep. Recliners on beach are broken, no chairs luggage racks or hook to hang wet clothing from. Shower was terrible (plumbing, fixtures and pressure). Could not wait to check out. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Oh, and way overpriced for what you get. Website indicated laundry, they do not.

Wish we had more days there. It was a last night stay and we booked it sight unseen. A wonderful stay with super clean rooms, plenty of towels, excellent restaurant and plenty of lounge chairs for the beach. Great atmosphere . Safe walking on beach and to shops. Would love to go back. Excellent quality for the money.

Everything you need at the quiet end of the beach. Grounds are well maintained, room was comfortable with all the necessities, and staff is friendly. You have the option to dip your toes in the ocean or dip in the pool, eat great food on site, and have a great seat for the sunset.

The only thing that is good about this hotel is the ocean proximity and view. 1) there is no breakfast included 2) the pool smells like urine 3) the front desk is only available after 11 a.m. 4) the room is old and sparsely furnished Not worth the $$$ even during high season

This property is first and foremost a RESTAURANT that happens to rent a few rooms. The bathroom was filthy upon check in. Not sure its ever actually been thoroughly cleaned. Reception is the bar. They had a paper binder to manage their reservations. It showed we were to be in room #2, but given the keys to stay in room #1. The Reception desk (bar) isn\'t staffed until 11 am. This is problematic if you need to check out before 11 am. You\'re lucky if you can find the "housekeeper" when you need to refresh your towels etc and ask for cleaning. The sheets were clean and bed comfortable, nice pool area. Definitely not more than a 1 star property and way over priced for what you get.

The hotel only has 5 rooms and a nice pool. The bar and restaurant are owned separately. The rooms were pretty funky but clean and the beds were good. What makes this such a great place is the proximity to the beach and the fantastic restaurant. We ate there every night and it was the best food we had for the $$ in Costa Rica. We loved it so much they brought the chef out to meet us! What a talented young man!!

Our room was a little tired. Handle fell off in the shower, toilet leaks, large gaps in the door that i stuffed plastic bags into trying to keep cockroaches out. Found 3 in our room in the one night stay. The property is nice and the staff are very friendly. We never ate here, but paid 32USD for 2 pina coladas.

The staff is very friendly, the rooms are really clean and the food was delicious. Water pressure is amazing here in the showers. The beach is right out front which is a bonus and there is a path that you can walk to town on right from the hotel.

This place is very cute with its central pool and seating/hammocks. The beach restaurant is quaint and has great seating options and loungers. The staff is super nice and friendly! That said the room seemed clean but smelled strongly like a urinal cake/clenser. The shower was meh clean and I woke up to a big dead roach by my shoes. The walkway placement makes it noisy and people were loud as was the rolling of the cleaning crew cart right outside our door. That said, we only stayed one night and it was good.

The air conditioning worked great in the room and the bed was comfortable. There was a refrigerator to keep a few things and when asked for water and ice, the restaurant staff was very helpful. The pool was also very clean even though it was older. This could be a cute little boutique hotel with a few improvements in the rooms and bathroom. We had hot water in the shower, the door didn't shut but no hot water in the sink. And the lighting was non existent in the bathroom. There was no way for my husband to shave at the sink. The other thing is we never ate at the restaurant. It was fairly expensive even compared to others. We had a few drinks and those were very expensive also. They did have a good selection of alcohol. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful, but had a lot of down time. Overall, we had a great experience and enjoyed ourselves. The staff was wonderful. All of the outside areas were always neat and tidy and well kept.

Nice cafe/ beachfront, that’s about. Rooms reminded me of a worn out Super 8 motel in the US. Second night there was , not only booming bass music from the hotel, but from some place Nextdoor/ and it went on until 3 in the morning. None of the guest could sleep. Recliners on beach are broken, no chairs luggage racks or hook to hang wet clothing from. Shower was terrible (plumbing, fixtures and pressure). Could not wait to check out. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Oh, and way overpriced for what you get. Website indicated laundry, they do not.

They didn't have any record of our reservation when we arrived. No real information provided. Wifi didn't work. The restaurant was okay but very overpriced. Also the listing indicated they had an airport shuttle but they do not which was they main reason we stayed there.

This property is first and foremost a RESTAURANT that happens to rent a few rooms. The bathroom was filthy upon check in. Not sure its ever actually been thoroughly cleaned. Reception is the bar. Very nice location. Clean and safe. No seating/chairs in room makes it difficult to sit on bed for everything. Mattress sorly uncomfortable. Back pain developed during our stay. They dropped the ball on room services the first day and ignored my request for towels to shower. Super courteous staff when engaged.

We planned this location to celebrate our 20th anniversary because it was right on the beach. The location was perfect, walking distance to Coco about 1/5 mile, right on the beach, and walking distance to several restaurants. It does not have any breakfast available, but the ladies in the morning are happy to refill the coffee for coffee service in the room. This was the perfect place for us to really enjoy the beach walking distance from our room. The staff was lovely, and the food at the restaurant was very very good. The sunset from the beach restaurant could not have been any better. The walk to the main avenue of tourist shops maybe takes 15-20 minutes, but walking along the beach makes it very pleasant.

First off, if you don’t read any further, just know this is an incredible property with only a handful of rooms and a few steps to the beach. The dining area is overlooking the waves and every staff member goes out of their way to make your vacation memorable. That being said, here were the surprises. Nothing that’s a dealbreaker, but just unexpected. There are less than 10 rooms for the entire property, so the guest noise is quite minimal. That said, the rooms literally exit into the dining area. You can be woken in the morning to the sound of chairs, tables, and silverware moving. If you open your curtain, you will be face to face with employees or others eating. The walk along the beach from the hotel to the Main Street is a gorgeous start to every morning. Overall, we are quite happy we stayed here.

Our room was a little tired. Handle fell off in the shower, toilet leaks, large gaps in the door that i stuffed plastic bags into trying to keep cockroaches out. Found 3 in our room in the one night stay. The property is nice and the staff are very friendly. We never ate here, but paid 32USD for 2 pina coladas.

Wish we had more days there. It was a last night stay and we booked it sight unseen. A wonderful stay with super clean rooms, plenty of towels, excellent restaurant and plenty of lounge chairs for the beach. Great atmosphere . Safe walking on beach and to shops. Would love to go back. Excellent quality for the money.

This trip was a quick four day trip to Costa Rica. I just wanted a clean room on the beach. It was very economically priced. The room was clean and spacious. This is not the normal resort or hotel I would stay in but it was excellent for what I was looking for on this trip. I usually stay at nicer much more expensive, all inclusive resorts where its a mile to the food, or beach. This one is right on the beach. About a 15 minute walk or $4 Uber ride to town. That allowed for us to sample the local food and drinks off-property. There's a pool which I didn't use. There's an on-site restaurant/bar. The staff is amazing. No frowns and everyone was super helpful. I know a little Spanish and some of the team knows a little English. Most of them speak English. Freddy and Angel at the bar were very attentive and helpful. I didnt see the inflated prices some guests complained of at the bar. Service was excellent. Freddy brought us chairs and drinks to the beach. Angel checked on us for drink orders. Sunsets here are amazing!

While the proximity to the beach was as advertised, the hotel and pool portion of the cafe were run down and not inline with our expectations for the price. There were loud workers talking outside our door at 4am, the construction next door wafter fire smoke into the room and onto the property at night and in the morning. Giant 4" spider found in the bathroom.

Café de Playa was absolutely amazing. The property was beautiful, clean, and well cared for, and the staff went above and beyond to make my experience special. Everyone was so kind, helpful, and welcoming — it truly felt like they wanted to take care of me and make sure I had the best trip possible. They gave wonderful recommendations, made everything feel easy, and added so much to my Costa Rica experience. I’m so grateful for their hospitality and I look forward to going back!
