This place was awesome had everything you need for a beach trip the only down side was the fact that the pools was closed for maintenance but honestly i came for the ocean not a pool... Also in grate location shops restaurants and the Pier all with in walking distance and you honestly cant ask for a better view......

It's not fancy, but it's a great location, fantastic beach access, nice staff, and affordable. We loved our time here. The kitchen was great and I loved sitting on the shared back deck/porch. And indoor and outdoor pools. Will definitely return.

Nice beachfront rooms. Room was just repainted and new tub. Needs more and better pillows and an extra blanket. There is a large cabinet at the door Star could be replaced with a wardrobe as there is no place to hang clothes. The pool and spa are out of service, which was disappointing for the beginning of the season. Staff was nice and the owner worked hard to keep beach access and the shower clean. Would definitely go back!

Staff was friendly. Very comfortable bed. You can tell this motel is doing a remodel. Very clean and fresh looking. The room smelled clean not musty. There were to many dressers. Needed a small table and chairs to eat at. There was a large table very unusable with the chair in the room. Would work as a desk. Air conditioner was the only problem we had. Would stay at 75 and not move. Would turn off every few minutes in the middle of the night. Had to push button to get going. Made for a tiring night. Overall a wonderful stay for anyone looking for a vacation place. Centrally located. If you have trouble with stairs do not go to the third floor. They do have a lift for your luggage, it is slow so be prepared.

This property was exactly what we were looking for. It’s very nice. I mean it’s not up to date with all the newest stuff, but everything worked and we were right in the beach. Pool was open all the time and there were 2 pools.

This is an older motel but very well taken care of. It’s right on the beach (get the 3rd floor for a view from the balcony due to the dunes), the grounds are very well taken care of and the staff is amazing. There is an indoor pool and hot tub, as well as 2 outdoor pools, all very clean. There is no elevator but there is a motorized cart that will take your stuff to the top floor and back. We will definitely be coming back

Room was very clean and comfortable. Loved the indoor hot tub. Warmest heated pool I’ve ever been in. My only complaint is the loud fan in the pool area. Had to shout to talk. Would have spent more time there if it weren’t for the fan. Bonus is that they waved the pet fee during Christmas. We will use hotel again in the future.

If you are looking for anything nice, this is not the hotel. Had it not been Labor Day weekend, I would have found somewhere else to stay. The room wasn’t very clean, stains on the towels and the walls were gross. Wiped water off the floor and towel was dirty from it. Had to have the AC very cold to keep the room from feeling gross.

We arrived and were greeted with no one in the front office. I had to check in on a kiosk with someone on a screen. When that didn’t work an actual live person finally came and helped. Once we got our room keys and went in we found a very, very dirty room with extremely small, uncomfortable beds. The bathroom was so dirty we had to go out to buy Clorox wipes and clean it ourselves. That night we pulled back the blanket on the bed to find the sheet dirty and hair on the fitted sheet. There were pen marks in several places and it appeared the housecleaning simply flipped the used fitted sheet over as it was on inside out. The room was non smoking, but other guests in rooms right next to ours were smoking a lot, which prevented us from enjoying the disgusting seats on the public walkway outside our room. This hotel was more expensive than staying in a nice Hampton Inn that gives offers a free breakfast. The only thing this hotel offered for free was ice.

Upon arrival we discovered hair in the shower. The provided hair dryer was broken and kept tripping the electric breaker. There was no housekeeping service during our stay and we only started out with 2 washcloths. You have to go to the front office across the parking lot to get refresh on toiletries and towels. The bright spot of this hotel is being ocean front.

Perfect location with easy access to the beach. Spacious room. Nice balcony. But that concludes the positive things. The hotel needs A LOT of repairs that are being neglected. Holes in the walls, paint peeling off, broken balcony door latch, very low water pressure. The bed was uncomfortable & neither my spouse or I got much sleep, as a result. The lights on the exterior hallway stay on all night & shine into the room making it too bright at night. No housekeeping. And despite how spacious the room was there was only one tiny mirror, up against the corner above a tiny sink in the bathroom, not sufficient if there is more than one guest in the room or if you have any toiletries you need a decent space for. Great potential, if it's ever under new ownership by someone who cares about making their guests comfortable & feeling at home.

Nice older property on beach. Clean, spacious rooms. Be aware there are no elevators and views of ocean cannot be seen from ground level. I was fortunate to be able to change room from ground level to second floor upon arrival. Wish I had time to spend more than one night.

I was called on my way to the property by "John" who had told me I could check in early and asked when I would be arriving- I was thrilled- I told him my e.t.a. he told me okay and hopes I enjoy my stay. I get to the property to find out "John" isnt even an onsite employee and he denied what he had told me, which was aggravating. My husband was less than impressed at this-We were then told we would be called as soon as the room was ready. We were never called hours go by - we went back to the office at regular check in time. The room was above the office which is fine(that was why it was cheaper than the others) except the stairs are quite narrow. The room wasn't very clean and the sheets felt like there was sand in them. Pillows were flat. The mattress was indeed firm- if you like that. I don't think its actually a Queen, maybe a Full size bed. The soap, shampoo & conditioner (2 in1) and lotion were in dispensers instead of individual bottles. You could see the hole where the pipe for the showerhead comes out of the wall. The bathroom was kinda dark even with both lights on. The towels folded like kissing birds setting at the foot of the bed like on a cruise ship was cute. The a.c. blew nice and cold. The beach access was awesome. Even though the room was on the street side of the hotel it wasnt very loud. All in all its an ok place to stay. The room rates are a little high, but, it IS oceanfront.

Was really expecting more from this stay. The bulding is older and the exterior is not well kept. The AC in our room did not work which made for miserably humid conditions. While it is ocean front, the views on the 2nd floor were blocked by dunes. For the money, I was really expecting better.

Location was great, right on the beach. Lots of good restaurants nearby. We were on the ground floor and wore shoes inside due to sand. Didnt bother us though. Con of being so beach side. We never saw a single employee to get new towels or anything. But we only stayed thurs to sunday. So we survived. Walls are a little thin, we could hear neighbors showering. So maybe not a good place for light sleepers. We enjoyed the quiet pool and hot tub. Overall, would recommend for a quiet weekend beach trip.

This was a old 3 story motel, with a luggage elevator. I loved this place the minute I got in my room. I was right on the beach, it's old in a reto way. I would stay here again. The view from the third floor rooms was breath taking. Stay if you can.

The view... the view, and the view, are the three reasons to love this place. It is right on the beach with beautiful sand dunes in between the hotel and the ocean. Be careful... you will miss the view if you are not on the top floor. Oceanfront doesn't mean ocean view. The room was clean and recently updated. The toilet wax seal was bad and it rocked back and forth but the view made up for all of this.

So it’s an older place. The stove needed updating (room 5 had a 1970 something stove that the burners barely worked on unless on high, which then set the smoke detector off. Also the oven would never heat up to use!) The beds are only full sized double beds and aren’t that comfortable. The rooms were very clean though. Room 9 was very nice but it was not an efficiency. It had a nice balcony and the best ocean view for the second floor. The hotel is smoke free but my neighbors smoked a bunch of weed and it stunk up our rooms. The indoor pool is small and is kept locked with key card. It is heated and the hot tub is large and works well.

We didn't mind that the motel was old and dated, becuase it was comfortable and enjoyed the balcony and view of the ocean. There was always hot water. However, the property was not well maintained. the screen to the porch was ripped and an outlet did not work on the cabinet. We also had no soap and had to request that and an extra hand towel. We had NO housekeeping until the day we were to check-out. The check-in by kiosk was ok and the staff on the otherside of the camera was pleasant, friendly, and polite. It was a little impersonal though and would have preferred a human presence to check-in.
We didn't mind that the motel was old and dated, becuase it was comfortable and enjoyed the balcony and view of the ocean. There was always hot water. However, the property was not well maintained. the screen to the porch was ripped and an outlet did not work on the cabinet. We also had no soap and had to request that and an extra hand towel. We had NO housekeeping until the day we were to check-out. The check-in by kiosk was ok and the staff on the otherside of the camera was pleasant, friendly, and polite. It was a little impersonal though and would have preferred a human presence to check-in.

When my family and I arrived we were all greated the man at the desk came outside showed me where the room was and also said hi to the family. He was very accommodating! We have no complaints. AC was cold, bed was comfy there were planty of towels, rags, soap, shampoo/conditioner, nice size mini fridge, microwave worked great, and noone knocking to clean while your there. Also returning visitors get a 20% off coupon on their next stay. (The coupon is on the back of the tag) We were also very close to the ocean, which was nice for the price we paid. We did not expect to get oceanside.

Everything was good, except for the check-in procedure. They use a 'live' person in front of a picture background. I had to register using this kiosk. There was a person behind the desk., he should have been able to conduct the registration. I prefer to work face to face, not yhrough video.

There was nobody at the front until you call their cell phone and they come help you. He did put us on the 3rd floor for better view of the ocean BUT gave us keys to a room already occupied, that was embarrassing. No elevator, rather narrow stairs. Room was beautiful & very clean. The hairdryer in my room didn't work.

Location was great, right on the beach. Lots of good restaurants nearby. We were on the ground floor and wore shoes inside due to sand. Didnt bother us though. Con of being so beach side. We never saw a single employee to get new towels or anything. But we only stayed thurs to sunday. So we survived. Walls are a little thin, we could hear neighbors showering. So maybe not a good place for light sleepers. We enjoyed the quiet pool and hot tub. Overall, would recommend for a quiet weekend beach trip.

After we decided the camping leg of our vacation wasn't working out, I had to find a room last minute. This was the only place with vacancy that wasn't a big name hotel. Although the price was higher than I wanted (remember, we were supposed to be camping), I'm glad I booked this place. It was a lot better for those big name hotels but much more welcoming. We stayed on the 3rd floor so we had a great view of the non crowded beach and the pool. The guy at the front (seemed like the owner) was very helpful. When he didn't have customers to help, he was seen cleaning and doing odd jobs around the place, and he always greeted us with a smile and a wave. There was a small kitchenette which was nice since we had planned to eat in anyway. There were a handful of dirty dishes that someone had hid on the bottom of the pile, and some repairs need to be made to the room we stayed in, but it beat the tent for the night!

I love how close it is to the beach and how every room has an ocean side. Sometimes you can hear street noise from the main drag in our room, however to be fair there was a car show in the park two blocks away. Really love staying here.

Was over the top happy with my beachy room, it was clean and comfortable and had a balcony that was right over the beach with nice chairs. I was on the 3rd floor which was perfect for the best views of the ocean. It was a wonderful stay, quiet and relaxing. Safe area with lots of shops nearby. Not a seafood fan so as far as food...i wasnt overly impressed but if you love seafood theres tons of restaurants for you. Madisons pizza was a delight however! Loved the OBX and loved the Blue Heron Motel, will definitely book with them again!!

When I first pulled up to this hotel I thought uh-oh, I made a mistake. But once you get inside, all of the rooms are redone and you cannot beat the view! It was a very affordable price for an oceanfront view with a great beach and great restaurants and activities close by!

The website showed breakfast. There was none. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom door would not shut, but was just my wife and me, but still. The view from the third floor is awesome! Location is great. Overall we had a really nice time.

I only good thing about this place is the location and the beach view. The room was dirty, bathroom door would not close, no place to hang close. The walls in the bathroom had dust and were dirty. This is a basic room nothing special or comforting.

We recently stayed at the Blue Heron Motel in Nags Head. I know it's an older motel, so I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but I did expect the room to match the description on Hotels.com. The best parts were the location, easy beach access, and the large balcony. If you're not on the 3rd floor, though, your view is mostly of the dunes. There is no elevator, only a very slow luggage lift. If you're on the 3rd floor, you'll also have to lift your luggage over a chest-high railing to get it onto the luggage rack. Our biggest issue was that the room amenities were not as advertised. Hotels.com listed an oven/kitchenette for all rooms, but our Executive Oceanfront room had neither, so double-check before booking if that's important to you. During a severe storm and flash flood warning, rain leaked through the front door frame and even through the lock. I used almost every towel to keep water from pooling inside. We also found the bathroom outlets didn't work and were very loose, so I had to use the outlets by the bed. The toilet paper holder was broken as well. The location is great, but the inaccurate room description and maintenance issues made our stay disappointing.
