The private beach is stunning!!! The shared grassy space between cabins is great also. Lots of benches and picnic tables you can use and enjoy. The room itself is nice, has everything you’d want or need.

So friendly, welcoming bonfire at night, short walk to beach. Clean, easy check in. Will be back.

Super clean, awesome amenities like chairs outside each room, community outdoor tables, chairs and grills. Community fire pit lit nightly by the hosts. Room with kitchen had every pot, pan, dish, & utensil we needed.

Check in was very pleasant. Room was neat and clean and bed was comfortable. Access to beach was not very convenient, but not horribly inconvenient either. No frills, but no complaints and would recommend to others.

Unbelievably clean and very well taken care of. An absolute gem. Excellent outdoor space with a short walk to the beach. We will absolutely stay here again on our next trip to the area.

This was an amazing find! Super friendly owners, clean and just the right amount of remote for us! They have beach access across the street which was awesome! And, the owner builds a fire every night and provides comfortable seating around the firepit to unwind after a wonderful day of exploring the Porkies!!

Our stay at Sunshine Motel was outstanding! The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the community. Both the general facility and our room were very clean and comfortable. We were exceptionally happy with our stay!

The room had a musty smell. The owners were sweet couple but had a long list of demands that required cleaning up for them upon checkout. This included stripping the bed, emptying waste baskets and sweeping floors, I never heard of a place charging $156/night and requiring cleaning up after yourself to boot! I didn’t like the weird noises the furnace made and the fridge was next to the bed so you heard it running too. The bathroom was very small with little space to hang anything, no hooks anywhere. It was clean but the shower came up to my collar bone and I’m 5 ft 5 in so not a tall person. My partner is 5’11” so had a harder time showering upper body. The bed was comfy bu squeezed a lot.

Cute property, but its old. Room had a strong old closed up musty smell and hard to breathe. It was clean, just very 60s70s dated. Staff was excellent. Walk to beach is easy and close. Great sunsets.

Super clean. Owners were friendly and very helpful. Nearby private beach access. Reasonable rates and comfortable rooms. Have stayed here before and it never disappoints.

We loved Sunshine Motel and Cabins. Exceptionally clean, quaint lodging. The owners were so friendly and accommodateing. The price was well worth it. The ability to visit the lake from their property was a plus! I definitely recommend this lace and would come back.

Meticulously clean, welcoming staff, and loved the campfire for all of the visitors. Took the trail to Lake Superior and marveled at the beauty of the wilderness beach and vastness of the lake.

Great property close to Porcupine Mountains. Clean rooms and great access to Lake Superior down a private pathway across the street. Hosts were great and very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Motel is older, so rooms are 'cozy', but the hosts updated the rooms decor to make it very much like home. Love this place!

Bright clean room. Friendly host. No soundproofing between rooms. Could easily hear other guests, including snoring.

This place was a little dated but, was clean, owners were friendly, kitchenette had everything we needed, and I had no problem with the cable or internet service. I will definitely stay again when up this way.

The staff was very friendly. The room was clean and nicely decorated, with an Up North theme. The hostess even brought me extra sugar from her kitchen when the packets in the room were not enough for me. (I use a lot of sugar.) My daughter loved the sandy beach with an illuminated pathway to get there. The outdoor facilities were nice, including chairs by our room, picnic tables, grills, and a fire pit. My only complaint is I could not find an outlet in the bathroom. Altogether, we had a nice stay. We recommend this place!

This room is not for everyone. We are tall people and found the short beds, small sinks, and small room size to be uncomfortable. There were few places to put anything. Also, we thought the lake access meant that the property was waterfront. It is not. You have to cross a busy road and walk a considerable distance to reach the lake. The owner presented us with a plethora of rules at check-in, which one never experiences at major chains. It made us feel uncomfortable. Park diagonally? Nobody else did. Pets welcome? Not really. They are prohibited from the main areas and incur an extra fee. Our dog never is a problem, so what does that fee cover? Otherwise, things were fine, and the facility is well-kept and, clean. If you're not very tall and are travelling light, then this might be an ideal space. If you have kids, lots of luggage, and other things it might not. If clean is your only concern, then this is a good choice. The rooms are fairly quiet, but the old floor framing makes it very loud to walk on and people walking around 3 units away sound like they are stomping next door.

This is a nice, clean property and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. It has new HVAC units which we did not use. It needs more light in the bedroom and an electrical outlet in the bath. The bath fan starts on when the light is turned on and is VERY LOUD which is a problem during the night.

A retro vibe motel with spacious and well kept rooms. Check in was easy and friendly. The room had nice decor which matched the area vibe. Highly recommend if you are staying in the area and just down the road from the state park.

We were in #15 and the beds were so hard & uncomfortable that sleeping was difficult. They have no outlets in the bathroom. It’s really an old motel. They have cute cottage decor but it doesn’t make up for the discomfort.

Wished we had a comfortable chair but realize space would probably not allow it.

This is a cute hotel with a very helpful and friendly couple that make the stay very pleasant. Lovely touches that puts them above your average hotel. Nice candle lit walk to the beach to see the sunset over Lake Superior and a fire pit every evening to relax and chat with others who are traveling. The room was small but clean and comfortable.

It say its pet friendly. Plus they write down your credit card number for incidentals yet they don't give an amout they claim they want it open. I don't trust them. We left our room in very good condition. Tiny tiny bathroom. Would not let us leave our dog there while we went to go eat. They say "pet friendly" but are not. So many ridiculous rules. I'll never stay again. I was told right on the lake. Its not you can't even see it. You have to walk across the street through trees and down a path. Lied too about a lot

Owners were friendly and helpful. Great knowledge of the area and suggestions on hikes etc. Clean room and hot water pretty instantly. Good location for seeing all the sights of the western UP

Check in was great! The owners explained the property, the rooms, and the Lake Superior access. Prefect location to spend a night or longer stay. Many local eateries mapped for guests.

Room was clean and well stocked. I left my coat after check out and they called me shortly after leaving to let me know so I that I was able to return to get it. I really appreciated it! Very friendly and helpful.

The owners were amazing and were there for anything you needed. You could tell they wanted you to have the best experience possible! After a long day it was great to be able to take a clean shower and head to the beach for the sunset and to soak in lake Superior! Beach trail was enchanting and close to the motel and the sunset was to die for!

I needed to arrive very late from my 12 hour trip. They waited for me and told me not to rush and drive safely. When I arrived they were very friendly. Highly recommend.

I booked the stay for my son, 2 sm-med PSA-ESD certified dogs & I ~12p the same day we were arriving (w/ ~9 hrs to go) & immediately called the owners to inform we had our dogs (in case they had dog specific rooms). That was at least the first of 3x's they brought up the weight of my dogs, which I assured them was under 50 lbs (I hadn't yet seen their email yet since I was driving w/ spotty reception, but the owner condescendingly pointed out I should have read it already even though I had literally just called). It wasn't until a later call to give our ETA that they told me they were going to charge me even thought the policy says service dogs are exempt (I was exhausted & not going to argue)—Then, when my son & I finally made it after a 30hr drive (we drove rather than flew from WY specifically due to my need for PSD animals, which was amplified after just receiving a terminal diagnosis), both owners were waiting to again ask me about their weight & charge me the fee (clearly the owner doesn't agree with PSA certs.). I was spent & when I mentioned that all had already been discussed multiple x's, the male owner aggressively started asking "Are we going to have a problem?"... which is almost comical to a 53 y.o. single mom w/ her son). They were totally harassing , when I had strived to be respectful & communicative he entire way. It was super unwelcoming & a sad start to MI vacation. They ended up charging 2 fees even tho hotels quotes 1 per accommodation.

100% recommend and would stay again. Room was lovely and comfortable. Mini kitchen with all cooking necessities, which was great. Even has charcoal grills in the common area along with picnic benches and comfortable seating. Owner/ hosts set up a bonfire each night for guests and provided get was t conversation and fellowship. Anyone looking for a great and convent place to stay, don’t wait any longer and book your cottage NOW!! We will definitely be back. Thank you again to Jeff and Nou for their hospitality.

What a great motel and right across from Lake Superior. They have a private beach entrance that is easy to get to. Great owners make you feel welcome and you can tell they are proud of their establishment. Hope to come back next year.

The Sunshine Motel was easily one of the bright spots on our trip. Very friendly staff and is conveniently close to the lake of the clouds.

Cute little rooms. All cabin type themed. There are trails on the property for hiking. The beach is a short walk away. Only a 15 minute drive to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Staff was very friendly.

Nice hotel close to Ontonagon and Lake Superior. I liked it much better than the Americinn in Silver City.

I love how close it is the Porcupine Mountains and Lake Superior. The owners love on site and we're super helpful when my tires went low.

The motel is a quaint, rustic, very well kept, north-woods property a few miles west of Ontonagon, MI. It is run by a couple who are welcoming and helpful. This is how rural vacation hotels used to be 50 years ago. The very clean rooms are in good condition and contain all the amenities such as mini-frig, microwave, and wifi.

It is very close to Lake Superior! We liked that!

Property is quiet and quaint. Has Beach access. Close to town.

The location near Porcupine Mountain State Park is a big plus and access to Lake Superior, though across the street, was nice for watching the sun set and beach walking.

Always a pleasant stay and experience. The owners are super friendly and accommodating. Well decorated rooms to get that rustic cabin experience. They have their communal camp fires in the evening which is fun. And their little beach property across the street to Lake Superior about a 5 minute walk.

It is a small motel run by a very nice couple. My room was clean the service was friendly. They were very helpful pointing out dinning options in the area. They even put a clean towel on my motorcycle in the morning so I could wipe the dew off. That was very thoughtful.

Everything was straightforward, easy & convenient. No issues & the ladies were a great help. Plus a restaurant was right next door.

We have never stayed here before but the staff was really friendly upon check in and was even willing to accommodate us if we needed another night...they gave us a little map of area dining and it was just a short walk across the road to the beachfront. I would highly recommend this property plus the rooms were so rustic and cute...Loved it
