Unique accommodation. A must stay! Staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating. Everything about Kruger Shalati is special. I went on every safari ride, which was so special, so it meant I didn't get to take in all that Shalati had to offer - lounges and pools. So, take a safari ride off and enjoy more of everything Shalati has to offer. The food is 5-star.

We stopped in this property as part of our honeymoon. What an amazing hotel. The hotel is in a stunning location right in the National park with wildlife all around the river. Our room had an amazing view and we loved having our own plunge pool. The food was delicious and our dietary needs were catered for. We attended all the safaris and the whole experience was an absolute dream. We saw so much wildlife and our guide was fantastic and the stop offs with drinks and view was unbelievable. The pool on the train was stunning looking over the river. But we were glad to have our own pool to ourselves at our room. We just wish we could have booked a couple more nights to relax at the hotel as the day is quiet busy with two safari rides out. Highly recommend!

The game drives were exceptional, with Thuli, our driver and guide, ensuring we saw as many animals as possible. Sibusiso, our host, was incredibly warm and welcoming, always greeting us with a smile. The standout feature of Kruger Shalati is undoubtedly its breathtaking views. From both the rooms and the hotel itself, the scenery is unparalleled, making it one of the most unique locations I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. In my opinion, the hotel boasts the best views in all of Kruger. One suggestion for improvement would be to heat the pool in the honeymoon suite, but overall, the experience was nothing short of spectacular.

Very convenient transfer from Skukuza Airport, transfer less than 15 mins. Train is very unique accommodation with excellent view of surroundings and wildlife. Would higly recommend spa treatments.

This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed; an amazing location in beautiful Skukuza, the quirkiest stunning train/bridge hotel and the extraordinary staff! Rooms are extremely spacious and beautifully decorated, the views from the room and the pool deck is breathtaking. It’s the most beautiful feeling watching animals from above, enjoying the river running under the train bridge. The staff is maybe the friendliest and the most hardworking hotel staff I’ve experienced. Tinashe, Happy, Angie and many more .. they make you feel so welcomed, almost like a family! On top of all, what makes it even more special is the Kruger NP game drives. My husband and I both feel extremely lucky to have met the amazing Victor, who is a very special and extraordinary game guide. I have done a lot safaris around the world but never met a guide like him. He is full of love for animals (and BIRDS!), he gets so excited seeing them, tracking them, as if this is not what he sees everyday. His level of knowledge about all animals, their behaviours, patterns, from the biggest to the rarest animal, the surrounding fauna.. it is just like going on documentary drives. Unbelievable! Till I met him, I didn’t know much about birds. When I said that to him, he went and printed me a copy of an extensive bird checklist as a surprise for our next drive and we tracked them together the rest of our drives.Thank you so much Victor for everything you did for us, we couldn’t ask for a better experience

O Hotel surpreendeu pela ótima qualidade dos apartamentos, muito bem decorado, limpo, confortável, colchão de qualidade, banho bom e bela vista para o Rio. Todas as refeições agradaram, com destaque para a qualidade e a variedade dos pratos diversificados servidos, com opções para todos os gostos. O Hotel proporciona momentos de paz, relaxamento e é incrivelmente silencioso. O atendimento é profissional, atencioso e personalizado, da recepção, garçons e pessoal que trabalha na limpeza dos apartamentos, todos muito atenciosos, simpáticos e alegres! Já estou com saudades da Angie, minha protetora! Destaque para os safáris, muito agradáveis, sendo que nos realizados pela manhã até bolsa térmica com água quente era disponibilizada para aquecer as mãos e o assento. Our stay at this lodge was nothing short of perfection. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, making us feel at home in the heart of the wilderness. The game drives were an absolute highlight, thanks to our outstanding guide, Alvis, whose deep knowledge and sharp eye ensured we had some of the most spectacular wildlife encounters imaginable. Every drive was filled with unforgettable moments, making each outing a true adventure. The design of the lodge is stunning, seamlessly blending luxury with nature. Whether relaxing in the beautifully designed rooms or unwinding in the common areas, everything felt thoughtfully curated and inviting. The culinary experience was just as impressive. The food was consistently excellent, and the beverage selection was well above expectations, particularly the outstanding wine choices—far beyond what one would typically expect from an all-inclusive offering. A special mention goes to the pool area, which provided breathtaking views of hippos, elephants, and even crocodiles—a magical setting that made every moment feel surreal. In summary, our stay exceeded all expectations. The value for money was outstanding, and saying goodbye was truly difficult. Words can’t really explain. It was an overall great experience from airport pickup to check in to check out. Our guide Lawrence went above and beyond for us. The staff and servers are very nice and professional. The food was 5 start dining quality and the hotel amenities are out of this world. I can’t fault this place aside the monkeys always bothering us during breakfast ;) jk!

Amazing hotel. Wonderful location and a really chic room. The staff was amazing and the service was very individualized. We had a private tour everyday with the same guide who was an expert and very informed. The other staff was absolutely lovely and anticipated every need. Get a massage! Lie by the pool. Have a wonderful time.

This hotel was amazing. I cannot fault it. Food was 5*, i would give it 6* if it was possible. The servers cant do enough. You have your own personal servers for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room was always sparkling clean. Game drives were brilliant. Kruger Shalati doesnt have its own private consession so you stick to the public roads but this did not stop us from seeing so much amazing wildlife and should not put you off coming. We saw Lions, leopard, wild dogs, hyena, kudu, empala, buck, wilderbeast, buffalo, giraffe, zebra. Elephant... the list goes on.... i cant even remember it all. The views are epic from the bridge, you can see so much wildlife from up there... hippo, crocodiles, elephant etc. We stayed in a garden room the first night which was so spacious but had no views of the river. We then moved to a carriage on the bridge which was so much better. The rooms on the bridge were smaller but what they lose in space, they make up for in the views!!! We didnt find them too small though. They were well layed out and had more than enough space. I would 100% recommend staing here!!!

Our stay at Kruger Shalati was amazing. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. The room was comfortable, clean, and beautiful. Every person we interacted with during our stay treated us with amazing hospitality and provided excellent service. When we first started looking at where we’d stay for a safari, our hope was to find a place that made everything easy and Kruger Shalati did that. From coordinated airport pick up and drop offs, to the two game drives a day, great meals, and great ambiance, Kruger Shalati was everything we hoped for and more. I will highly recommend a stay to my own family and friends.

The photos of this place on the site don’t really do it justice. It was incredibly beautiful. Very updated with great design and very clean. The staff were all amazing and the food was fantastic. We felt like we probably each gained 3 kilos in the three days we were there. We also did all of the 2x daily game drives and those were a really great experience too…we saw something new/different each time we went out. Our guide (Lisa) went out of her way to make those great..one day our group “voted” to go to the south end of the park to try to see rhinos and she said it would be a long drive and we had about a 10% chance to see them. Just as it was about time to head back and we’d given up, we ended up seeing a group of 4 rhinos. Then on the way back, we spotted a leopard, so we stopped for that, which extended that game drive by nearly two hours. Lisa seemed happy to do that and…even though we didn’t get back til after 10:30, we were still given the full breakfast service/options when we returned!

The property itself is beautiful, the train suspended on the bridge is very nicely done. The main problem resides with the safaris, for over $500USD a night I have high expectations for the quality of guides. The hotel used a contract guide that could barely speak english, and had limited to know knowledge of the park or the wild life. Morever he was a reckless driver who nearly crashed into a tree, injured the knee of a fellow passenger with a sudden braking for no good reason. I first reported this situation to the front desk during my stay, they ignored it. The lodge managers were away for a couple days, and they didn't leave anyone to oversee the lodge. On the last day, some fellow guests and myself finally got to speak to the managers, and they more/less shrugged their shoulders at the situation and said they wouldn't use the guide again. The property itself is beautiful, the train suspended on the bridge is very nicely done. The main problem resides with the safaris, for over $500USD a night I have high expectations for the quality of guides. The hotel used a contract guide that could barely speak english, and had limited to know knowledge of the park or the wild life. Morever he was a reckless driver who nearly crashed into a tree, injured the knee of a fellow passenger with a sudden braking for no good reason. I first reported this situation to the front desk during my stay, they ignored it. The lodge managers were away for a couple days, and they didn't leave anyone to oversee the lodge. On the last day, some fellow guests and myself finally got to speak to the managers, and they more/less shrugged their shoulders at the situation and said they wouldn't use the guide again. Beautiful, we drove in and drove out, which was a great experience. make sure you book the right airport and you won’t have to drive your own car although we loved driving around ourselves in addition to the wonderful game drives. The staff and the Safari drivers were the best. The garden rooms were lovely and we saw many animals and baby hippo, newly born from the view on the train track

We stopped in this property as part of our honeymoon. What an amazing hotel. The hotel is in a stunning location right in the National park with wildlife all around the river. Our room had an amazing view and we loved having our own plunge pool. The food was delicious and our dietary needs were catered for. We attended all the safaris and the whole experience was an absolute dream. We saw so much wildlife and our guide was fantastic and the stop offs with drinks and view was unbelievable. The pool on the train was stunning looking over the river. But we were glad to have our own pool to ourselves at our room. We just wish we could have booked a couple more nights to relax at the hotel as the day is quiet busy with two safari rides out. Highly recommend!

This hotel was amazing. I cannot fault it. Food was 5*, i would give it 6* if it was possible. The servers cant do enough. You have your own personal servers for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room was always sparkling clean. Game drives were brilliant. Kruger Shalati doesnt have its own private consession so you stick to the public roads but this did not stop us from seeing so much amazing wildlife and should not put you off coming. We saw Lions, leopard, wild dogs, hyena, kudu, empala, buck, wilderbeast, buffalo, giraffe, zebra. Elephant... the list goes on.... i cant even remember it all. The views are epic from the bridge, you can see so much wildlife from up there... hippo, crocodiles, elephant etc. We stayed in a garden room the first night which was so spacious but had no views of the river. We then moved to a carriage on the bridge which was so much better. The rooms on the bridge were smaller but what they lose in space, they make up for in the views!!! We didnt find them too small though. They were well layed out and had more than enough space. I would 100% recommend staing here!!!

We absolutely loved our 3 night stay at Kruger Shalati. Everything about it was top notch. The staff were outstanding, the rail carriage rooms were stunningly beautiful with a full side of windows to enjoy the beauty of the river and its visitors. We saw elephants with minutes of arriving at our room. The early morning and afternoon safari drives were amazing. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Thank you to Fanni and Geoff that took great care of in the dining room and to our guide Thullli who made sure we saw lots of wildlife up close. We loved every minute of our stay.

Fantastic and completely unique hotel on a train. We stayed in a garden suite which was lovely. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was fabulous. We had Nelly as our tour guide on the game drives and saw the big five. We will definitely be back

This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed; an amazing location in beautiful Skukuza, the quirkiest stunning train/bridge hotel and the extraordinary staff! Rooms are extremely spacious and beautifully decorated, the views from the room and the pool deck is breathtaking. It’s the most beautiful feeling watching animals from above, enjoying the river running under the train bridge. The staff is maybe the friendliest and the most hardworking hotel staff I’ve experienced. Tinashe, Happy, Angie and many more .. they make you feel so welcomed, almost like a family! On top of all, what makes it even more special is the Kruger NP game drives. My husband and I both feel extremely lucky to have met the amazing Victor, who is a very special and extraordinary game guide. I have done a lot safaris around the world but never met a guide like him. He is full of love for animals (and BIRDS!), he gets so excited seeing them, tracking them, as if this is not what he sees everyday. His level of knowledge about all animals, their behaviours, patterns, from the biggest to the rarest animal, the surrounding fauna.. it is just like going on documentary drives. Unbelievable! Till I met him, I didn’t know much about birds. When I said that to him, he went and printed me a copy of an extensive bird checklist as a surprise for our next drive and we tracked them together the rest of our drives.Thank you so much Victor for everything you did for us, we couldn’t ask for a better experience

We arrived at Skukuza airport in the early afternoon… picked up by our guide it was a short 5min drive to Shalati. If you are lucky you can see the train on the bridge from the plane! Let me get this out of the way: the check in and check out process was not the best. We were ushered by an impatient staff to fill our paper work and finish lunch on arrival. We were left without hospitality on departure with numerous miscommunications by staff (eg. departure times / park ticket / exit letter etc.) This somewhat blemished what is otherwise an amazing getaway at Shalati. If you want a romantic safari experience look no further; I highly recommend 3-4 night stays. If within your budget don’t think about it… book the train and the honey moon spa package. Bring bathers, some nice evening wear to impress your partner and of course the spirit of love and adventure. From the bridge (yes your room) you can see the big 5 (leopards, elephants, buffalos, lions, hippos) without a drive! This was simply phenomenal. Our guide took us on different routes and short stops through out the Kruger and no game drive will be the same. Everyday Shalati will surprise you with wonderful events and beautiful touches of hospitality. One thing I can share is that they took a photo of my wife and I, then framed it as a gift for us to celebrate our honey moon! We did not want to leave! Note: you will be wined and dined very well prepare to be like a hippo by the end :p

Kruger Shalati is the quintessential destination for experiencing the wonders of Kruger National Park. The game drives were exceptional, with Thuli, our driver and guide, ensuring we saw as many animals as possible. Sibusiso, our host, was incredibly warm and welcoming, always greeting us with a smile. The standout feature of Kruger Shalati is undoubtedly its breathtaking views. From both the rooms and the hotel itself, the scenery is unparalleled, making it one of the most unique locations I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. In my opinion, the hotel boasts the best views in all of Kruger. One suggestion for improvement would be to heat the pool in the honeymoon suite, but overall, the experience was nothing short of spectacular.

Shalati has been a magical break from our life at home. From 5 star dinners (and DESSERTS) to freshly pressed luxury sheets, from spectacular views to charmingly naughty monkeys, from welcoming smiles to bird song serenades, this is an enveloping experience you should treat yourself to! Big hug to my friend Glenda, who cared for us for most of our meals and broadened my tastings of new SA red wines - we were spoiled. My husband and I were fortunate to have our games drives with Nelly. I cannot express my gratitude for his knowledge and grace. We stayed in a Garden Suite and I heartily recommend it !

Staying at the Kruger Shalati Train Hotel is one of those unforgettable experiences of a lifetime. The train carriage hotel rooms are like nothing you can experience anywhere else — wall to floor windows suspended above a river with hippos, elephants and water buffalo wandering next to and into the river as it spreads out below you. The food is outstanding. They take into account every dietary request - each of the three of us had a different full menu. Pearl even arranged a birthday celebration, compete with both South African and American birthday songs. But the height of the experience is driving around with a knowledgeable guide to experience all the wildlife in the Kruger National Park. We had both a lion and a leopard walk within 5 feet of our vehicle. We were also taken to one the corner of the park in the south to find rhinos. Our guide, Mishak, knew so much about not only the animals and the birds, but also the lore. Seeing Kruger is a wonderful experience but seeing it while staying in this one-of-a-kind resort is a blessing.

The train carriage hotel rooms are like nothing you can experience anywhere else — wall to floor windows suspended above a river with hippos, elephants and water buffalo wandering next to and into the river as it spreads out below you. The food is outstanding. They take into account every dietary request - each of the three of us had a different full menu. Pearl even arranged a birthday celebration, compete with both South African and American birthday songs. But the height of the experience is driving around with a knowledgeable guide to experience all the wildlife in the Kruger National Park. We had both a lion and a leopard walk within 5 feet of our vehicle. We were also taken to one the corner of the park in the south to find rhinos. Our guide, Mishak, knew so much about not only the animals and the birds, but also the lore. Seeing Kruger is a wonderful experience but seeing it while staying in this one-of-a-kind resort is a blessing.

This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed; an amazing location in beautiful Skukuza, the quirkiest stunning train/bridge hotel and the extraordinary staff! Rooms are extremely spacious and beautifully decorated, the views from the room and the pool deck is breathtaking. It’s the most beautiful feeling watching animals from above, enjoying the river running under the train bridge. The staff is maybe the friendliest and the most hardworking hotel staff I’ve experienced. Tinashe, Happy, Angie and many more .. they make you feel so welcomed, almost like a family! On top of all, what makes it even more special is the Kruger NP game drives. My husband and I both feel extremely lucky to have met the amazing Victor, who is a very special and extraordinary game guide. I have done a lot safaris around the world but never met a guide like him. He is full of love for animals (and BIRDS!), he gets so excited seeing them, tracking them, as if this is not what he sees everyday. His level of knowledge about all animals, their behaviours, patterns, from the biggest to the rarest animal, the surrounding fauna.. it is just like going on documentary drives. Unbelievable! Till I met him, I didn’t know much about birds. When I said that to him, he went and printed me a copy of an extensive bird checklist as a surprise for our next drive and we tracked them together the rest of our drives.Thank you so much Victor for everything you did for us, we couldn’t ask for a better experience

Kruger Shalati is a truly unique and wonderful experience from start to finish. We were met at the airport by Victor and transferred to the hotel. The hotel itself is breathtaking. The staff are friendly and extremely attentive. The food is beautiful. The rooms are amazing; we saw hippos, elephants, leopard, crocodile and Cape Buffalo from our bedroom window on multiple occasions. The game drives are fantastic. Our guide for the whole stay was Victor. He is genuinely one of the nicest most passionate guides we could have hoped for. The team are incredibly lucky to him.

I loved the resort and the trip. The only thing was that moderately priced alcohal was not included in the all inclusive. Also, cocktails were extra. This left a bad taste since the stay. Premium alcohal okay. Bombay Gin...really?

Shalati train is located in a stunning location, unique view of the Sabi river from carriages is a memory for life. Waking up with the sounds of hippos is amazing. Staff is amazing. Rides are not as good as in other lodges, they pack them with up to 8 people which doesn’t feel much exclusive, unfortunately we got bad weather and they do not offer enough comfort in the vehicles, just provided a very thin poncho and we ended up all wet. food is good and very sophisticated but cooking meats is not their specialty.

Fantastic and completely unique hotel on a train. We stayed in a garden suite which was lovely. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was fabulous. We had Nelly as our tour guide on the game drives and saw the big five. We will definitely be back

O Hotel surpreendeu pela ótima qualidade dos apartamentos, muito bem decorado, limpo, confortável, colchão de qualidade, banho bom e bela vista para o Rio. As áreas comuns do Hotel são bem-cuidadas, principalmente o restaurante-bar. Todas as refeições agradaram, com destaque para a qualidade e a variedade dos pratos diversificados servidos, com opções para todos os gostos. O Hotel proporciona momentos de paz, relaxamento e é incrivelmente silencioso. O atendimento é profissional, atencioso e personalizado, da recepção, garçons e pessoal que trabalha na limpeza dos apartamentos, todos muito atenciosos, simpáticos e alegres! Já estou com saudades da Angie, minha protetora! We had the most incredible time for our honeymoon. What a perfect place to have the safari trip of a lifetime!! You can even see animals from the train during the day like hippo, elephant and buffalo! The staff go above and beyond. The food was excellent. The highlight was obviously the incredible safari game drives!! It’s so helpful having such knowledgeable people take you around the park.
We had the most incredible time for our honeymoon. What a perfect place to have the safari trip of a lifetime!! You can even see animals from the train during the day like hippo, elephant and buffalo! The staff go above and beyond. The food was excellent. An incredible experience from beginning to end. After the post-booking questionnaire on my favourite tipple, my expectations were high for the upcoming trip to Shalati. Those expectations were exceeded in the superior level of service, quality of food/drink, the room and the overall Shalati experience. The included game drives were great, knowing in advance that luck plays a significant part in what you see or don't see. My thanks and appreciation to Angel, Mzwandile and Tenashe for making the stay so memorable.

O Kruger Shalati é uma excelente propriedade. Porém, tivemos momentos que excederam nossas expectativas, e outros que ficaram abaixo das nossas expectativas. A guia nao nos ajudou com nossas bagagens e o check in não foi dos melhores. Questionei se seria possível um upgrade. Me disseram que estavam 100% lotados. Logo após o almoço, me informaram que eu poderia fazer o upgrade, pagando um valor adicional (que era superior ao valor da diaria do quarto oferecida no hoteis). Me senti enganado. Na primeira noite, tinham funcionários conversando alto proximo ao nosso quarto. Tive de pedir que nao fizessem barulho. Nosso primeiro dia estava ruim. A partir do segundo dia, no entanto, foi incrivel. O gerente do hotel pediu desculpas pelos problemas e nos ofereceu um massagem, o que achei bastante cordial. Nos safaris, vimos guepardo, leopardo, elefantes, girafas, leoes. O safari do ultimo dia foi o melhor de todos. Vimos leoes ao nosso lado. Tudo estava incrivel e se encaminhando para nota 5. Porém, logo apos o checkout (11h, nosso voo era 1430), nao nos sentimos confortáveis no hotel. Parecia que não queriam mais nossa presença. Nao nos ofereceram aguas, e os funcionários da recepção passaram a nos tratar sem cordialidade. Fomos também almocar no hotel e inicialmente parecia que nao queriam nos servir o almoço. Depois voltaram atras e serviram. De todo modo, é um otimo local. Mas nao é 5 star. Tivemos momentos incriveis e outros ruins.
