Monument Hotel

The hotel is above a pub with no front desk staff. I had problems accessing my reservation and my room was a long way away, up flights of stairs with no lift access, which meant I had to carry my luggage up the stairs after a very long day of travelling. The layout of the room was very odd and not very restful.

Hôtel très bien situé, à proximité d’un parking, dans un quartier très animé et offrant de nombreux services (transports, restaurants, supermarchés, etc). Attention à la place animée avec des bars et boites de nuit qui peuvent faire du bruit tard dans la nuit.

Lots of options for eating and shopping. Lift access to the floors. Would expect to have to pay more for a hotel that nice!

The hotel said there was a self-service check-in kiosk, so I wasn't worried when I arrived at 00:40am, but it wasn't there. I phoned the after hours number 3 times but got no response. Staff were still clearing away in the restaurant so I knocked on the window and someone came to help me. She said they no longer had the kiosk but I later spotted it under the stairs (but you need the key card to get in there). The room was very clean and no maintenance issues except smell from the drain in shower room. I used just the floor mat & small towel, and hung them on the pegs but they were removed and not replaced. It wasn't a mistake because they weren't replaced the next day either. The bed was very comfortable, and I appreciated having a drinks fridge. It's convenient and in a pleasant area with shops and restaurants. Take the train from airport (down escalator at main entrance) direction Hoorn. Left out of station about 1/2km, then right at Dunkin' kiosk through Rozenhof mall and it's on other side of square.

Insegesamt war es ein toller Aufenthalt. Das Hotel liegt direkt in der Innenstadt mit vielen Restaurants. Direkt am Hotel parken geht leider nicht aber in der Nähe gibt es einen grossen Parkplatz der am Tag 8 Euro kostet. 20 min bis Amsterdam.....Einchecken ist ohne Personal möglich aber am Nachmittag ist jemand in kleinen Office da den man auch persönlich ansprechen kann. Das Zimmer war sauber und ordentlich. Wir kommen gerne wieder

De kamers waren netjes en goed te bereiken via lift en trap. We werden keurig naar de goedkoopste parkeergelegenheid geleid. Helaas deed de verwarming het niet in het aangrenzend restaurant, waardoor we met ontbijt en diner echt in de kou zaten (bleek achteraf kapot, maar toch ....). Het personeel in het restaurant was niet altijd even alert, ondanks dat er voldoende mensen rondliepen. Hierdoor zaten we nog wel eens langer te wachten op een drankje of een hapje dan noodzakelijk zou hoeven te zijn.

Good place to stay based on price and conveniences nearby. The rooms are actually quite nice and super soft pillows. This property is adjoined by a restaurant and several late night eating options. Even though it can get loud outside, you never hear it from your room. The only thing i didn't like is there is no front desk staff...its actually the wait staff from the restaurant, which was odd. There is no one at thr desk during early morning hours because the restaurant is closed. I arrived early afternoon and had to figure out how to get assistance. So if you need hotel assistance, you may be stranded.

Top accommodatie. Zeker als je snel naar Amsterdam wil. De check in was super simpel, al moesten we even zoeken naar de check in zuil dir naast een plant geparkeerd staat. Ontbijt is ook uitstekend! Samenvattend, top hotel!

Nicht schön, man muss das Personal im Restaurant ansprechen. Das Zimmer war sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet, sehr sauber. Die Fenster lassen sich nicht öffnen. Leider etwas zu klein, das Zimmer. Das Badezimmer ist interessant, Waschbecken und Dusche in einem Raum ohne Abtrennung, sorry, geht garnicht.

Hotel sehr schön und gemütlich eingerichtet. Zimmer ausreichend groß und gut ausgestattet.Aber leider nach dem zweiten Tag kaum noch Zimmerservice. Sauberkeit lies zu wünschen übrig!

The property was really cool, hidden between restaurants. My room had 4 meter high ceilings, a beautifull bathroom and a very comfy bed. They allowed me to check in very early to accomodate me having to be somewhere else during the check-in timeframe. Also the room was very clean every day.

Regrettably, the experience was far below what is expected from a 4-star establishment, On the first night, the television in our room was not working. While this was an inconvenience, we accepted the offer to be upgraded to a suite on the second night. However, things deteriorated further when we discovered live bed bugs in the upgraded suite. This is absolutely unacceptable and a serious health concern. We have clear video evidence of the bed bugs, captured on three separate occasions during our stay. The presence of bed bugs in any hotel room—let alone in a suite of a 4-star hotel—is appalling and unhygienic, and it made the remainder of our visit deeply uncomfortable. While we appreciate the effort of the staff member who assisted us during this ordeal—who was professional and helpful—the overall experience was completely unacceptable. We were offered free drinks on the house, but let us be clear: this is not an appropriate form of compensation for sleeping in unsanitary, unsafe conditions. The issues we encountered go far beyond what a few complimentary beverages can remedy. This is not a minor inconvenience; it is a public health concern.

The bathroom and the room were dirty, there was no toilet paper. The service was terrible.

Heel leuk plekje, genoeg te doen en veel eetgelegenheden. Zeer schoon hotel en zeker aan te raden!

Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral direkt über Bars und Restaurants, die zum Hotel gehören. Obwohl dort bis nachts Gäste draußen sitzen , hat uns das im Zimmer nicht gestört und wir konnten gut schlafen. Das Zimmer war sauber, das Bett sehr bequem und zum Übernachten absolut fein.

Hotel is in a decent location and nice. Rooms are nice, but i saw insects in the toilet! We forgot our key in the room and came home late evening, we could not finf any staff to help, dialled the emergency number no one answered, because it has no front reception and is self check in, we could not find staff and the hotel has an emergency number after 11 but no one answered called like 50 times. Ended being homeless all night!

The room was “ok”. Loved the shower room and that it is separate from the toilet. But the room overall lacked a vibe. The staff were nice but kind of dismissive. They are working the restaurant in addition the front desk so the check in was kind of rushed. The walk to the train wasn’t too bad. I did prefer staying outside of the center of Amsterdam as it was a bit chill. I didn’t know our room would be right over the restaurant so the noise level was pretty loud until late evenings.

Modern eingerichtete und saubere Zimmer. Am Wochenende aucv bis in die frühen Morgenstunden sehr laut durch die benachbarten Bars und Clubs.

No functional heating. Not enough power at all. That made the stay quite awful

Alles was goed behalve de verwarming, het was best fris in de kamer.

Lovely team and responsive. Beautiful space. Quaint interiors and nice surroundings. The aircon didn’t work strongly and windows didn’t open, which made it very hot. Very noisy at night but great location.

The worst hotel experience I’ve had in Europe. I ordered room service slightly after the cut-off time, and although the order was automatically cancelled, my card was charged. I contacted the hotel immediately and followed all their instructions — WhatsApp, reception, and email — but got nothing in return except a thumbs-up emoji. Despite requesting a refund multiple times, I received no real communication or resolution. To this day, I still haven’t gotten my money back. On top of that, the bathroom in my room had drainage problems, and the cleaning service I requested — and tipped for — was never provided. I’ve traveled across Europe and stayed in many hotels, but I’ve never experienced such irresponsible service and disregard for a guest. Absolutely would not recommend.

Very disappointing and stressful staying at this hotel. Nobody was at the desk when arrived. Had to leave our luggage with the restaurant next door. Tired calling the number they sent me and nobody answered. Called the emergency number - nothing. On checkout nobody was here and we stood around for half an hour to again leave our luggage in the restaurant. The room was absolutely freezing. We all slept in sweatshirts for 4 days. May look nice and convenient and rooms were totally clean and comfortable, I would never recommend this hotel.

Very good hotel, in good area and very helpful staff

No reception at all. All issues left to bar/ restaurant staff. Faulty key cards,on 2 occasion took 45 and 55 minutes as bar staff had no computer codes to log on with. Servicing of room gets 30%. For not cleaned or papers picked up. Sink and coffee stand not cleaned once. Coffeee stand and cups left dirty. No evidence of any management checking. Really not is advertised.

Reservation Cancellation I recently encountered a frustrating situation with Monument Hotel. I had a reservation confirmed for August 2, but just a few hours before my arrival, I received a cancellation notice without any clear explanation. This last-minute change left me scrambling for alternative accommodations, which is not what I expected when booking with a reputable hotel. The lack of communication and consideration for my plans was disappointing. I would have appreciated a timely notification and perhaps assistance in finding another room nearby. Unfortunately, this experience has tarnished my impression of the hotel, and I cannot recommend it based on this incident. Hopefully, they can improve their communication and customer service in the future.

The hotel is situated next to the bars. I could not sleep the two nights I was there. When I sent an email to complain they recompensed my claims with: “we apologize”. To what I answer: thank you for apologising but that doesn’t help me with the two nights that I didn’t sleep after paying an exaggerated amount of money to what I thought was a decent hotel. Very unhappy with the experience.

Good value for money, well located just outside of Amsterdam and the room was really nice

If you've looking for a hotel that is centrally located, with a busy square around it, then this hotel works. But we didn’t like the fact we were kept awake by noise from the hotel's own bar and the square until at least 3am, even though we were in a room at the back of the hotel. Also, we stayed 3 nights and never had our room cleaned or towels changed during our stay. Nonetheless, the staff were friendly, it felt safe and it was only a 10 minute walk to the station.

It was a good area, with lots of restaurants around. That also meant noise

Mit der Unterkunft waren wir insgesamt zufrieden. Gute Verbindung nach Amsterdam und ein sauberes Hotelzimmer.

About 10 minutes to the local train station and a lot of restaurants in front of the hotel. Very good and nice.

Visually, this is a great hotel. However, it is in Zaandam not Amsterdam and I didn't realise until trying to use my GVB ticket that it's too far out to extend to this area. Whilst transport back into the central area is very easy it's at an additional cost. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Zaandam station and the route takes you through a pleasant town centre surrounded by quaint housing and of course ubiquitous canals/waterways. The staff were lovely, friendly and spoke (and read) English very well. The room design and overall cleanliness was great, but the mirrors were smoked and the hairdryer didn't work. As we had an early trip, I upgraded to include breakfast. Unfortunately as it only started at 7:30, that was too late for us as we had to leave before this time in order to commute in to make our trip. I'm currently in the process of trying to sort a refund. It would've been helpful if this start time had been advertised as part of the upgrade request. The following morning we had breakfast, which was a bit of a disappointment. We were only given one cup of tea. There was no juice or water to accompany it. As I had my refillable water bottle I asked for it to be filled and whilst they obliged, it seemed like a begrudged act. Generally, access to water to drink whilst in Amsterdam was hard, which is ironic. The only water fountains that we found were not in the central area and the locals(?) seemed to be using them for other things, such as washing their face/feet.

The hotel was nice, the area was nice, the staff at the restaurant were nice enough. It would’ve been really nice if our toilet had worked. It would’ve been even better if any hotel management responded to my email or WhatsApp chat about the toilet not working. We ended up having to use the bin from the garbage can to fill with water and do a manual flush on the toilet. The shower drain was clogged so the bathroom floor flooded with water when we showered. After ordering drinks and being shown the English menu at the restaurant, we were told the kitchen was closed, just as we’re about to order food. Overall, not great. Wouldn’t return.

The Monument Hotel was excellent. I loved there outdoor area just sitting and chilling. Laid back and the staff were attentive , friendly and helpful. Great food. The rooms were lovely modern and clean. I would definitely recommend the Monument for your stay in the beautiful Zaandam.

Hotel had no real service with automated checking that didn’t work from the hotels.com reference number. Aside from that glitch, everything was fine. The room was modern, clean but a little small. Service in the bar was good although we didn’t eat there. Great location on a little square with plenty of options for food and drink

The room I was given smelled terrible, like a clogged faucet. At first I was told no other rooms were available. When I threatened to leave and asked for my money back, miraculously another room became available. That room was fine and clean, but the pillows smelled strange. Also, as it is located on a square full of restaurants, it is also noisy. The is no formal check in. A machine spits out your room key. It is the restaurant staff at the ground floor that need to deal with your problems. The staff was always courteous though.
