ION Adventure Hotel, Nesjavellir, a Member of Design Hotels

Overall an average hotel really. Based on the reviews and photos we expected a lot more, particularly at that price point. Due to availability for 4 people we had to book one of the more expensive rooms. Again for that price point you’d expect a nice and quiet room. Ours was right under the reception area which was quiet noisy and for some reason particularly around 10pm. Rooms clean and good, pool was great with the kids but it looks much bigger on the photos than it actually is. Breakfast was good, dinner was EXPENSIVE! Definitely milking the remote location. Disappointing that the waitress didn’t tell us that we could also order from the (cheaper) lunch/room service menu. Some of the staff were amazing particularly with our kids. Others didn’t seem like they wanted to be there. Overall a good and average but very pricey hotel. Not living up to the hype created on various social posts.

Hotel situado en la falda de una montaña, lejos de cualquier población, pero recomendable sobre todo por su estupendo restaurante. El cordero es impresionante. Habitación espaciosa y buen desayuno y productos de baño. Una buena opción.

The best hotel in the golden circle, a perfect spot to see the auroras during the night

Excellent hotel. Quite limited in terms of menu options in the restaurant, and it is eyewateringly expensive even by Icelandic standards but the location is stunning and the rooms are very nice. The Northern Lights “bar” was a great place to watch the view (and Northern Lignts). We travelled in March and whilst the roads around the hotel were fine and largely cleared of ice the 36 was very tricky to drive. Worth checking the travel news and maybe getting a 4x4 if snow is likely.
