Rustic Lodge in the Animas Valley. 5 minutes to Durango, 15 minutes to Purgatory

The communication was good with the owners. Lots of space for us inside & out. Good size table for us to all sit around. Our boys enjoyed playing basketball. The beds were comfy. Liked the location - just a little ways out of Durango. Plus it was fun to see the Durango-Silverton train go by across the way.We would consider it "rustic" as was included in the title. It's an old cabin that was moved to this site many years ago, which probably explains why it slanted in some rooms. There was no AC which wasn't too bad with the fans in the rooms, except for the upstairs attic rooms. They were very warm. I would also be leary of not having kids up there as there was a loose board near the circular stairs. Be careful using the outside stairs as they aren't connected real well to the house or garage - as well as the deck off the game room over the garage. (Sign warns not more than 3 people at a time on that.) It lists that there are 4 bathrooms, but only 2 have a shower. The 2 upstairs each have a tub, but you can't really get into them because the roof is slanted right above them. Be careful in those upstairs bathrooms because the polished floors are slippery - as well as right inside the front door entry. It was a little tough for my husband with bad knees to get up the stairs to the house. (Sturdy cement ones at the back didn't have a railing, and the ones up to the front door were rock steps that weren't very firmly set.)

This cabin was perfect for our stay. Adequate space, clean, comfortable and felt like home. The home had everything we needed. A big plus was how convenient it was for a visit to the hot springs. The view of the mountains, the sound of the train and the cool breeze coming through the open windows made for perfect mornings & evenings hanging out in the house. No fault to the owner because I overlooked this small detail when searching for a property, the steps leading up to the home were a bit of a challenge for someone with horrible knees. But its doable, the handrail definitely helps. The host was always very prompt in replying to any of my questions/requests. Thank you for being a part of our fabulous weekend!

Our family stayed here for 5 days while visiting family. This house was all we could have asked for and more! It was very clean, the kitchen was well-stocked, and the views couldn't be beat. Our kids had a great time in the game room too! Thanks for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.

This rustic lodge property has character and is a comfortable stay! Highly recommend staying for a low stress casual visit! Host/Hostess is great to work with.
