What a beautiful place to stay! The cabin is adorable and has plenty of room. It rained the entire time, but we didn’t care because we had a nice warm hot tub to relax in. We were able to cook full meals for four people using the cookware provided. Entire place was super clean. The Internet is slow, but it was OK for us. We were still able to contact our families, make phone calls and get a little work done. It was also nice to be able to use the DIRECTV for music. We will definitely all be back at different times with our families. Can’t Wait!!

Exactly what we were looking for! The Shire was perfect spot for our quick family get away. Close to everything but entertainment right on site. Kayaking the river - finding the old dam/waterfall, saw wildlife (deer, geese), fishing, ending the day in the hot tub then dinner around the fire. Holly was great help with ideas for entertaining a 14 yr old and things to do. Highly recommend!

We are from Florida and take a vacation every summer to a different state. I like to plan our vacations around waterfalls, lakes and rivers. The Shire was the perfect place for us. We love cozy cabins/cottages and this did not disappoint. Right on the river with kayaks to use. We also brought our own floats which were very relaxing on the river. Some of the nearby waterfalls were dried up due to lack of rain but I was happy to get to see 5. The Shire was was clean and came with a lot of amenities others don't offer. Holly was amazing by accommodating us for an extra night. She also helped us find The Shire since we punched in the wrong County Road (oops)! We would recommend The Shire for anyone looking for some R&R. They are very dog friendly as well with a chain link fence in the backyard. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We love staying here! Peace and quiet and the hot tub always works! Beautiful river just below with a floating dock. 10 min drive to restaurants to pickup food or you can stay inside and cook yourself. Gas stove is wonderful.

I booked The Shire as a surprise getaway for my husband's 30th birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! The cabin had everything we needed—super cozy, well-stocked, and in the most peaceful, private setting. Holly - our host- was responsive, communicative, and so wonderful to work with through all of my questions . We brought our two rescue pups along and they had the best time exploring and relaxing with us. We grilled, swam in the river during the day, and made s’mores under the stars at night—it was exactly the kind of relaxing escape we were hoping for. It’s such a beautiful spot to unwind and reconnect. We’re already planning our next trip back. Highly recommend The Shire if you’re looking for a quiet, scenic place to recharge!

The Shire is better than described on the listing. I planned for a relaxing break from the stress of work and town and this was Perfect! The property is rustic and very charming! The fully stocked kitchen, outside grill and the Hot Tub makes it worthwhile! The Geese , chipmunks and hummingbirds are just lagniappe! Will visit again!!

My husband and I stayed two nights with our new rescue dog and we all had a great time. The house was clean and cozy. Beds were comfortable, shower had good pressure and lots of hot water. The Shire is in an easy location to get in and out, but private enough that you feel secluded. The fenced in yard was the biggest part for us. We could let our dog outside to play knowing she was safe and couldn’t get lost. Lots of amenities like washer/dryer, hot tub, fire pit and kayaks for your use.

Our stay at The Shire in Mentone was wonderful! The cabin is just as described online. Rustic and very comfortable. Well equipped kitchen for cooking. The hot tub was awesome! And the securely fenced yard was perfect for our canine companion. We were visited by Mallard Ducks in the river every morning, as well as Canadian Geese. We would love to come back in the summer to utilize the kayaks and explore the river! Thanks.

We rented this cabin for this first time in March and could not wait to come back. We took the advantage of an opening Memorial Day weekend. Once again, the cabin and amenities did not disappoint!! We love the fenced in yard for out dog. He loves it as well. He loves to swim in the creek and chase sticks. It is in a quiet place with little to no traffic. The hot tub is awesome after a long hike. We plan to come back one weekend during the fall.

This property is amazing in all aspects! Quaint and quiet, just what we wanted. All the amenities you would need or want. A great hot tub, fireplace and fire pit. The yard is beautifully wooded and private. We made use of the outdoor grill more than once. The beds were especially comfortable and we slept like a dream. We lost power one day and Holly was more than helpful finding out how long repairs would take and than gave us suggestions on things to do in town. We were close to two great restaurants and also De Soto falls where we wanted to hike. Took a day trip to nearby Chattanooga, this cabin was fairly centrally located to everything on our to do list. I would definitely recommend it!!! Thanks for a wonderful anniversary!!!!

We had a lovely 2 night getaway at The Shire. This quaint and cozy property was ideal for a relaxing weekend of enjoying steaks on the grill and a dip in the hot tub. Although we brought some items “just in case” The Shire was equipped with all that we could possibly need. The cabin was well organized and clean. It is evident that the property is well maintained both inside and out. Looking forward to our next visit.

My 87 year old mother and my sister wanted to stay in a cabin in Mentone, where we could relax and just enjoy spending time together. My mother was also bringing her 2 year old dog for her first trip. This is a perfect place if you have pets or kids or just want to relax. The river is amazing and full of fish and there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. The place was very clean and well stocked. We will be staying again more than likely in the fall to enjoy the season change.

There were bugs and spiders, also not as clean as it should be. The rug in the livingroom was so dirty it should be replaced. Livingroom furniture was very uncomfortable to sit on.There were splatters on the window over the sink and food splatters on the side of the fridge.The entire place needs to be deep cleaned and trimming needs to be done along with other yard work. I realize it is in the woods and is pet friendly but it was not worth what we paid for the stay. I forgot to mention we had to wash the blanket before we could sleep under it, it had pubic hair on it, not good!!! We will not book this place again and we were celebrating my 77 birthday, there were times I just wanted to leave but we had paid for two nights so we toughed it out! Future renters beware.

Absolutely loved everything about this cottage- view of & access to the water, comfy beds, nice appliances, adorable decor and aesthetic, quiet location in a beautiful residential area… I could go on! The hot tub sits within a screened porch just outside of the back door. It’s very nice & felt amazing! Much thought was put into making this spot as cozy as it is efficient. The yard is perfection. Your doggo will agree! We are already planning to return & stay longer.

We had a great and relaxing stay at the Shire over our Spring Break week. Our son enjoyed taking the kayaks out each afternoon and we are enjoyed the wood fire pit followed by a soak in the hot tub every evening. It was quiet, safe, and easy to find. We found the beds comfortable and we all slept well. Close proximity to Mentone and all the area has to offer. We would definitely love to return and explore more in this area. The cabin is located right near the state line with a respective time zone change, so be aware that your phone will keep changing time as you arrive and depart.

Exactly what we were looking for! The Shire was perfect spot for our quick family get away. Close to everything but entertainment right on site. Kayaking the river - finding the old dam/waterfall, saw wildlife (deer, geese), fishing, ending the day in the hot tub then dinner around the fire. Holly was great help with ideas for entertaining a 14 yr old and things to do. Highly recommend!

We are from Florida and take a vacation every summer to a different state. I like to plan our vacations around waterfalls, lakes and rivers. The Shire was the perfect place for us. We love cozy cabins/cottages and this did not disappoint. Right on the river with kayaks to use. We also brought our own floats which were very relaxing on the river. Some of the nearby waterfalls were dried up due to lack of rain but I was happy to get to see 5. The Shire was was clean and came with a lot of amenities others don't offer. Holly was amazing by accommodating us for an extra night. She also helped us find The Shire since we punched in the wrong County Road (oops)! We would recommend The Shire for anyone looking for some R&R. They are very dog friendly as well with a chain link fence in the backyard. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I booked The Shire as a surprise getaway for my husband's 30th birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! The cabin had everything we needed—super cozy, well-stocked, and in the most peaceful, private setting. Holly - our host- was responsive, communicative, and so wonderful to work with through all of my questions . We brought our two rescue pups along and they had the best time exploring and relaxing with us. We grilled, swam in the river during the day, and made s’mores under the stars at night—it was exactly the kind of relaxing escape we were hoping for. It’s such a beautiful spot to unwind and reconnect. We’re already planning our next trip back. Highly recommend The Shire if you’re looking for a quiet, scenic place to recharge!

The yard is beautifully wooded and private. We made use of the outdoor grill more than once. The beds were especially comfortable and we slept like a dream. We lost power one day and Holly was more than helpful finding out how long repairs would take and than gave us suggestions on things to do in town. We were close to two great restaurants and also De Soto falls where we wanted to hike. Took a day trip to nearby Chattanooga, this cabin was fairly centrally located to everything on our to do list. I would definitely recommend it!!! Thanks for a wonderful anniversary!!!!

We enjoyed this riverfront cabin, and the fenced in yard was perfect for our dog. The property manager was also easy to deal with, and helped us facilitate a late-notice date change with no fuss.Only good things to say! We plan on returning in the future.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Shire! The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. We loved the direct water access and we kayaked for hours. The house had everything we needed. We will certainly come back again.

We love staying here! Peace and quiet and the hot tub always works! Beautiful river just below with a floating dock. 10 min drive to restaurants to pickup food or you can stay inside and cook yourself. Gas stove is wonderful.

My husband and I stayed two nights with our new rescue dog and we all had a great time. The house was clean and cozy. Beds were comfortable, shower had good pressure and lots of hot water. Our stay at The Shire was wonderful! The cabin is nice and cozy and the location is perfect. I love all the extra touches and how the cabin is so welcoming, even for our fur baby. In addition to the fenced yard, there was a cute bed and bowls waiting just for him. I can’t say enough great things, We will definitely be back!

We had a lovely 2 night getaway at The Shire. This quaint and cozy property was ideal for a relaxing weekend of enjoying steaks on the grill and a dip in the hot tub. Although we brought some items “just in case” The Shire was equipped with all that we could possibly need. The cabin was well organized and clean. It is evident that the property is well maintained both inside and out. Looking forward to our next visit.

What a beautiful place to stay! The cabin is adorable and has plenty of room. It rained the entire time, but we didn’t care because we had a nice warm hot tub to relax in. We were able to cook full meals for four people using the cookware provided. Entire place was super clean. The Internet is slow, but it was OK for us. We were still able to contact our families, make phone calls and get a little work done. It was also nice to be able to use the DIRECTV for music. We will definitely all be back at different times with our families. Can’t Wait!!

The cottage is very cute and homey. We stayed from 12/27 - 12/31/23. The temps dropped LOW!! we saw some snow showers/flurries. The hot tub was very welcoming considering the cold. The Shire was very quiet and tucked away. We visited the Mentone Market. Great pizza. Wildflower Cafe had a wait but was delicious...the loaded shrimp grits were perfect. The Hattery was also a nice lunch spot. We drove to Ft. Payne to The Santa fe cattle company forva steak dinner. Only about 20 miles. Wonderful food. We visited little river canyon falls and desoto falls during our stay. Both were breathtaking. We are thinking about staying again in the warmer months to lounge at the river. I would recommend this cottage. The fenced yard was nice for our dog.

The Shire is better than described on the listing. I planned for a relaxing break from the stress of work and town and this was Perfect! The property is rustic and very charming! The fully stocked kitchen, outside grill and the Hot Tub makes it worthwhile! The Geese , chipmunks and hummingbirds are just lagniappe! Will visit again!!

The yard is beautifully wooded and private. We made use of the outdoor grill more than once. The beds were especially comfortable and we slept like a dream. We lost power one day and Holly was more than helpful finding out how long repairs would take and than gave us suggestions on things to do in town. We were close to two great restaurants and also De Soto falls where we wanted to hike. Took a day trip to nearby Chattanooga, this cabin was fairly centrally located to everything on our to do list. I would definitely recommend it!!! Thanks for a wonderful anniversary!!!!

Such a wonderful experience! The Shire was the perfect setting for a relaxing weekend in nature. We enjoyed kayaking, sitting by a fire, and soaking in the hot tub. The house is so charming, and the property is simply magical. Mentone was also very cute. We loved getting tea at The Mad Hater, and dinner at Elevation and The Wildflower Cafe was delicious (make a reservation). We hope to come back every season to see all Mentone has to offer.

We loved everything about our stay at The Shire. Everything was so peaceful. The greenery, the flowers, & the view of the river made coffee time so enjoyable. The entire property being fenced in gave us priceless peace of mind when it came to our dog, who absolutely loved hunting for lizards. Inside the home was tastefully decorated & had everything we needed. The hot tub was wonderful. The couch & bed were super comfy and the shower had great water pressure. Its very close to everything we wanted to do in town. It's really just perfect. We can't wait to come back in the summer to really take advantage of the river. It's safe to say we've found "our home" in Mentone.

This was our second time at this property. Once again, everything was great. The house was well cleaned, and management is very responsive. We even got a nice little snow day.
