Great place to stay! John and Claudia are great hosts, promptly responded to questions. The walking paths on the property and the front and back porches were a hit with our group. Guesthouse is very comfortable and accommodating for a large group. We had 14 in our group. The lower level was a great place for the grand kids to hang out and sleep.

We had a fantastic time at the Gambrel Guesthouse! We did an elopement along the pathway in the woods-it was just beautiful. It was supposed to rain and there were plenty of back-up options for us. The large porch was a favorite hang out area. Our family loved relaxing all over the home. It was incredibly decorated and felt cozy. Plenty of photo-ops. The three car garage was an added bonus area to set up our dinner tables. Having a morning coffee by the fire was a perfect way to wake up. The trails are wonderful. We just enjoyed every bit of our trip. The Gambrel Guesthouse will forever be a part of our memories. John was such a pleasant and responsive host! I would 100% stay here in the future. It was very peaceful. Nearby supper club was delicious. We stayed on property but there was a lot to do nearby. I cannot forget they are welcoming to our two dogs! Our entire group raved about the place.

Our group of 8 adults aged 43-75 stayed 4 nights in August. We all loved the cabin. We came to relax and unwind and this was the perfect setting. The cabin is super clean. The kitchen is well stocked. The bedrooms were comfortable. It was nice not having a tv on the ground floor as it led to more quiet time and more time to converse. The yard and nature trail were beautiful. Our dogs had a great time in the yard. We appreciated wood was left to use in the fire pit. The dining room table was a great size for us. The basement was great at night with the bar and the tv as people could hang out down there and not disturb others who were sleeping on the other floors. The front porch became a great spot to sit during the day with the comfortable rockers and swing. The hosts were super nice and laidback. John went so far as to track down where they bought the rocking chairs on the porch for us. If you are traveling with mobility challenged people this might not be the house for you. There are no railings on any of the outside stairs into the house. Also the beds except the bunk beds are all very high. One thing that would enhance the experience would be to invest in new dining room chairs. I get the current chairs are meant to go with the vibe of the house but none of them are really comfortable. All in all though it is a great cabin and we would absolutely stay here again.

Walking into this house felt like coming home. We did not want to leave. It is listed as “Stunning Log Cabin” and it truly was! This cabin was the perfect Christmas getaway for our family of 10 adults and one baby. The cabin was very clean, the kitchen well stocked for whatever you need and the bedrooms were comfortable and accommodated everyone. The cabin was beautifully decorated, and John & Claudia made sure the setting was perfect for our Christmas celebration, complete with Christmas music upon our arrival. We enjoyed all the extras including the use of the garage, the 2 outdoor grills, the claw foot tub, infrared sauna, and a great coffee station with many options! I loved that each room had a fireplace that was easy to turn on and off. It certainly added to the ambiance of this trip. We enjoyed the nature trail and took advantage of this beautiful setting for our family photos. Friends are already asking about our weekend getaway location. I would highly recommend this beautiful home and look forward to our return trip.

we booked this cabin because we wanted a place big enough for the whole family, kids and grandkids, to have a long winter fun weekend. The cabin is very well maintained, multiple cozy places to congregate, sit by the fire, play games, cook and eat great meals. it is very well equipped with everything you need, both inside and outside where there are lovely trails in the woods and a very nice fire pit. All of it is very updated, and the owners were very helpful with instructions but not at all intrusive with rules and such. we were able to ski and tube in the area, and play in the snow in the yard. love all of it!

My family and I stayed at the Guesthouse in June. The place was immaculate. The owners are wonderful and responsive. They have thought of everything. The kitchen had enough of all we needed. They had full length mirrors and comfy beds and cozy towels. There is a gas and a charcoal grill plus an amazing fire pit, not to mention indoor fireplaces and an indoor sauna. The private trail was a great touch too. I can’t say enough. Just book it. You won’t be sorry.

I had four guys up to play golf at Sand Valley and this was a super location and outstanding cabin! The fire pit was perfect after a round to relax on a cool evening. The pool table was a hit as well! All the beds were super comfy, showers/bath had great pressure and plenty of hot water. It was super quiet for sleeping and great coffee in the morning! We will be back next year and in the years to come! John was a great host!!!!! Highly recommended!!!

From the moment we drove up we were amazed. Beautiful house inside and out. The bedrooms were spacious, kitchen was fully stocked and the basement with a sauna was a hit for all of us. Living room was big enough for us all to sit around and chat and also have an impromptu dance party! Alexa was a hit! We enjoyed walks on the trail which was very relaxing. Even saw deer. Ended the day making a fire outside each night with hot beverages and just enjoying each others company. There wasn’t anything we needed that wasn’t provided by the hosts. We would definitely rent this house again. Thanks John!!

Beautifully decorated barn-type house. Trails through wildflowers and trees. Big fire-pit with loads of wood to burn. Front porch full of rocking chairs, so peaceful; tons of bedrooms; a pool table, games & puzzles for rainy days. There were 10 of us, plenty of room for everyone. It was a great stay - thanks John!

This was our second stay at Gambrel Guesthouse, and it was wonderful! John and Claudia are great hosts. The house is beautiful, interesting, well stocked and very clean! We spent an afternoon at Lake Petenwell swimming and playing volleyball. The next day we rented a pontoon on the Wisconsin River. A great long family weekend! Thanks for the memories!

My family stayed here for a second time and we loved it even more this time! The property is beautiful, clean, and well maintained. We loved being able to watch a storm from the front porch. We love the trail on property as well. The big dining table is a plus as all 8 of us gathered there for meals. The kitchen is well stocked. We love being able to bring our dogs and the dogs enjoyed all the outside space. We will hopefully be back next summer!

This was the third time our family has stayed at The Gambrel Guesthouse. John and Claudia are wonderful hosts! The house is very clean and well stocked; the yard is large enough for bags, baseball, badminton, etc. There is a great firepit with lots of wood for s'mores, pudgy pies, etc A nice lake/beach is nearby. Many fun memories were made! Thanks!

First of all, John and Claudia were a pleasure to deal with! Responsive. Kind. Upfront and Transparent are words that quickly come to mind. The property is stunning as you approach from the winding gravel road off the main road and only gets better as you explore each level of the home and each acre of the land. Everything was included that we could have possible needed (minus the beer ha!). The place was spotless when we arrived and the ambiance is second to none. Will definitely be coming back for another stay. My guess is you will feel the same way by the end of your stay... Cheers!

Amazing stay as usual!! This is a yearly retreat for our family and we thoroughly enjoy every last detail! Spacious, clean, comfortable, charming, unique, accommodating, cozy, great for anyone that loves the outdoors… walking trails are a wonderful touch. Anyone that stays here will not be disappointed. The Gambrel House is amazing! Comfy beds, great showers, hot water, fire pit was awesome, pool table had great stories, and it was quiet at night. Loved everything about it. John is an exceptional host. Second year we stayed here. Be back next year!!!

We had a fantastic stay! The house was perfect for our group’s annual weekend getaway — rustic, comfortable, and full of charm. It had everything we needed, and the setting made it easy to relax and enjoy our time together. The location near Grand Rapids was beautiful and convenient. We’d happily come back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Wisconsin escape.

It had everything we needed, and the setting made it easy to relax and enjoy our time together. The location near Grand Rapids was beautiful and convenient. We’d happily come back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Wisconsin escape.

Our group of 8 adults aged 43-75 stayed 4 nights in August. We all loved the cabin. We came to relax and unwind and this was the perfect setting. The cabin is super clean. The kitchen is well stocked. The bedrooms were comfortable. It was nice not having a tv on the ground floor as it led to more quiet time and more time to converse. The yard and nature trail were beautiful. Our dogs had a great time in the yard. We appreciated wood was left to use in the fire pit. The dining room table was a great size for us. The basement was great at night with the bar and the tv as people could hang out down there and not disturb others who were sleeping on the other floors. The front porch became a great spot to sit during the day with the comfortable rockers and swing. The hosts were super nice and laidback. John went so far as to track down where they bought the rocking chairs on the porch for us. If you are traveling with mobility challenged people this might not be the house for you. There are no railings on any of the outside stairs into the house. Also the beds except the bunk beds are all very high. One thing that would enhance the experience would be to invest in new dining room chairs. I get the current chairs are meant to go with the vibe of the house but none of them are really comfortable. All in all though it is a great cabin and we would absolutely stay here again.

Walking into this house felt like coming home. We did not want to leave. It is listed as “Stunning Log Cabin” and it truly was! This cabin was the perfect Christmas getaway for our family of 10 adults and one baby. The cabin was very clean, the kitchen well stocked for whatever you need and the bedrooms were comfortable and accommodated everyone. The cabin was beautifully decorated, and John & Claudia made sure the setting was perfect for our Christmas celebration, complete with Christmas music upon our arrival. We enjoyed all the extras including the use of the garage, the 2 outdoor grills, the claw foot tub, infrared sauna, and a great coffee station with many options! I loved that each room had a fireplace that was easy to turn on and off. It certainly added to the ambiance of this trip. We enjoyed the nature trail and took advantage of this beautiful setting for our family photos. Friends are already asking about our weekend getaway location. I would highly recommend this beautiful home and look forward to our return trip.

This house was perfect for our family vacation this year. We had 9 adults and 4 kids and it fit everyone and more. The house had anything and everything you would ever need. If you want to sit by the fire and watch the stars, take a nice walking path, sit downstairs with the tv while people play pool, you can do it all. John and Claudia are amazing and willing to help in any situation that you would need. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to hoping to book again in the future.

You will not be sorry you chose the Gambrel Guesthouse! We spent a week there with our family, ages ranging from 2 to 63, and everyone enjoyed being there. It is beautiful inside and out as well as very comfortable for a group. Special spots are the loft living room and the nature trail right off the porch. John and Claudia have everything set up to make your time there special. They are very prompt in responding to any questions and truly want you to enjoy your time there. We will not hesitate to return to see the prairie flowers or try out the snowshoes!

From the moment we drove up the driveway, we knew we'd made the correct decision when choosing this stunning property. Immediately you could tell this cabin was as advertised, warm, inviting and perfect for a large family gathering. From the spacious kitchen, plenty of seating dining room, to large, comfortable bedrooms (great beds,) and bathrooms, this place was decorated beautifully and had all the comforts of home, and then some! (That tub in the Primary Bathroom was amazing!!) We knew 5 minutes in that we'd want to rent this cabin again, and we cannot wait to do so. Beautifully decorated barn-type house. Trails through wildflowers and trees. Big fire-pit with loads of wood to burn. Front porch full of rocking chairs, so peaceful; tons of bedrooms; a pool table, games & puzzles for rainy days. There were 10 of us, plenty of room for everyone. It was a great stay - thanks John!

We stayed here for a hockey tournament in Wisconsin Rapids and this place was perfect. It was about 12 minutes from the rink and there was a ton of room so everyone could have their own space. The backyard and firepit area were ideal for a group and the yard was big enough for the team to play football in. The kitchen was big and had everything we needed for cooking for a large group.

This was our second stay at Gambrel Guesthouse, and it was wonderful! John and Claudia are great hosts. The house is beautiful, interesting, well stocked and very clean! We spent an afternoon at Lake Petenwell swimming and playing volleyball. The next day we rented a pontoon on the Wisconsin River. A great long family weekend! Thanks for the memories!

My (now) husband and I had the hardest time figuring out where we could get married that would be intimate but not crowded, gave some of our guests the opportunity to stay the night if needed, and checked the boxes we wanted in a type of “venue.” Although we had plans for using the yard and it rained on our wedding day, we are both incredibly happy and thankful we got married here. I also cannot say enough good things about the hosts. John was incredibly understanding and accommodating with check in and check out. We also appreciate him letting us come to see the property before booking to ensure it was exactly what we wanted. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and cannot talk more highly of the overall house. We already have plans with some of our close friends to try to book a weekend every year for our anniversary. Thank you John & Claudia for opening your beautiful home to others and giving us the opportunity to have one of our most important days here.

First of all, John and Claudia were a pleasure to deal with! Responsive. Kind. Upfront and Transparent are words that quickly come to mind. The property is stunning as you approach from the winding gravel road off the main road and only gets better as you explore each level of the home and each acre of the land. Everything was included that we could have possible needed (minus the beer ha!). The place was spotless when we arrived and the ambiance is second to none. Will definitely be coming back for another stay. My guess is you will feel the same way by the end of your stay... Cheers!

Our stay at John & Claudia’s guesthouse made our celebration of our daughter’s wedding extra special! With it being only 5 minutes from the venue and close to town made it very easy and stress free to relax and just enjoy the whole experience. The guesthouse was clean and decorated beautifully for our fall wedding weekend. There was plenty of space for our immediate family and our now newly extended immediate family. This guesthouse made our experience complete as we could spend time with everyone and for everyone to get to know each other even more. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the WI cabin, which was cozy and welcoming. The property was very well maintained and had a nice balance of rustic and high-end features. The hosts were great to work with and very communicative. We stayed at the cabin while visiting the Sand Valley resort nearby for a few rounds of golf (resort was sold out but this was a fantastic alternative!).

We had a fantastic time at the Gambrel Guesthouse! We did an elopement along the pathway in the woods-it was just beautiful. It was supposed to rain and there were plenty of back-up options for us. The large porch was a favorite hang out area. Our family loved relaxing all over the home. It was incredibly decorated and felt cozy. Plenty of photo-ops. The three car garage was an added bonus area to set up our dinner tables. Having a morning coffee by the fire was a perfect way to wake up. The trails are wonderful. We just enjoyed every bit of our trip. The Gambrel Guesthouse will forever be a part of our memories. John was such a pleasant and responsive host! I would 100% stay here in the future. It was very peaceful. Nearby supper club was delicious. We stayed on property but there was a lot to do nearby. I cannot forget they are welcoming to our two dogs! Our entire group raved about the place.

The backyard and firepit area were ideal for a group and the yard was big enough for the team to play football in. The kitchen was big and had everything we needed for cooking for a large group.

Excellent! Everything was as described and just lovely. Beautiful country setting with many amenities. Great place for a large group. Host was supper communicative and facilitated our requests. Easy check in and checkout. I highly recommend.

It was a cozy little cottage that had everything you need. We saw lots of wild animals and we wish it was nicer to walk the trails.Would definitely stay here again.

What a beautiful comfortable place to stay. Everything we needed was provided as far as comforts for a weekend. It was a perfect gathering place for our kids and their families. All rooms were spacious. We liked that the only TV is the basement as it required us to mingle together. The breakfast nook was perfect as we prepared for our day. The larger dining table is perfect for a sit down dinner and game playing. For those who wanted a campfire the location was great. The porches were very inviting as well. We appreciated the hassle free check out too. I would say our stay was a A Thank you for sharing your place.
