Family Retreat w/ Deck Near Appalachian Trail!

My wife and 2 dogs stayed at Serenity Hill for 4 nights. We had a wonderful time. House is very well equipped with everything you can think of and the bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable. The basement was a lot of fun to play pool/darts. There is a bar downstairs as well as a card table which is great. The host, Kathyn did an excellent job with communicating. Our dogs loved running around the fenced in yard and sunbathing on the deck. There is about a 5 foot opening from the deck to the patio area so I would a gate if you don't trust your dogs to wander. We had a fire almost every night and that is what we like to do when we go to the mountains. We enjoyed most meals on the large deck and drinking coffee while watching the bird feeders. That was a delight for my wife. We brought our binoculars to look out at the beautiful view and wildlife. We went to Sky Meadows, Delaphine for wineries and Bear Chase Brewery on the way back is stellar. We visited Harper's Ferry which was very interesting. We tried some fishing on the Shenandoah river, a mile from the house at the boat ramp. Went into Winchester to the walkable mall, took a trip Front Royal to get some of the delicious Cinamon Rolls and food from Vibrassa to eat as we drove home via the Skyline Drive to see the leaves. House is in proximity to a lot of great things to do. In the mountains everything is always a 20-30 min drive. In Millwood there is a great store to buy sandwiches, eclectic food items called Lockestore, I think. You will not be disappointed with this house. My wife adored the horse themed decorating and log cabin feel. The view, privacy and location can't be beat.

If your dogs travel with you as part of your family, you will love the fenced in area as well as the provided kennels, bowls and blankets. The town of Berryville is just a few minutes away. Fun little shops and a Great sushi/ramen restaurant. There is a lot to do outdoors too. We did not want to leave! This is a vacation home that we want to incorporate into our future family holidays.

Check with the host about the directions before you go because IPhone Maps and Google Maps were slightly off. The house was quiet, spacious, and clean with a well-stocked kitchen and wonderful views. For us, the best parts were the finished basement with the pool table, and the dog run. The basement was cool and carpeted, and our dogs enjoyed hanging out down there as much as we did. The dog run was large, grassy, and had shade - the pictures don't do it justice. It's so nice to go to a VRBO house and not have to worry about walking the dogs on leash. The dog run is very secure and attached to the deck with a large gate, but there is also a set of stairs off the deck (about 4-5 feet wide) going to the fire pit area that is not gated. So if you want to let dogs out to join you on the deck, you would need something to block the stairs off, if you are concerned they will run away. Overall, it was a quiet and relaxing stay. Our elderly parents also loved the comfortable chairs and first floor bedrooms. We will definitely come back!

Absolutely amazing home, location, and view. If it was possible we would rate the home a "10". We drove up from SC for a wedding and the home was an oasis from everything, thank you! The dog room and run was a huge plus and reduced any stress leaving them while attending the wedding. Great experience, one of the best we have ever experienced in VRBO stays - we absolutely intend to book many more times. A MUST for any family traveling in/around Northern Virginia. Many thanks for everything.

Six of us ladies of a certain age spent 4 most enjoyable days & nights at aptly-named Serenity Hill in early October. The house is very spacious & comfortable, the modern kitchen well equipped & well stocked. The view is to die for!, as you can tell from the photo on the web site. (The pictures are completely accurate - nothing hiding just off camera.) We enjoyed watching the early morning mist rise through the trees where the Shenandoah River runs less than a mile away. Lots of deck space to enjoy the view in good weather but the tv room & kitchen/breakfast nook provide good inside views as well. The house offers much that we did not use, but others might - an extensive lower level game room with pool, ping pong, kitchen & bar & table, exercise room; dog run; and outdoor grills & fire pit.Kathryn, the host, was very helpful & easy to work with from booking to departure. She had a reasonable answer to a special request, and responded promptly to a first night question that turned out to be nothing.We would love to return to Serenity Hill and would definitely rent from Kathryn again.

This is the second stay for my wife and I, our two adult children, my mother- and father-in-law, and our three Australian Shepherds. Although hot weather and frequent thunderstorms limited outdoor activities and excursions last summer, we had such a pleasant time relaxing and enjoying the property's indoor amenities that we decided to come back again this year. With fantastic weather the entire week (i.e., mild temperatures and no rain -- thank you, Kathryn), we were able to spend more time out on the deck enjoying the wildlife and mountain views, and we were able to visit local wineries, eateries, and shops. The property and location offered more than enough essentials, conveniences, and extras for us -- we never wanted for anything! Again next year...!?

We absolutely loved our 5 night stay here.The house itself has everything you could wish for. Beautiful interior, spacious and well equipped kitchen.The gaming room is so much fun to hang out and play some games.But my personal favorite is definitely the garden. Every morning i went out at the balcony and watched the birds, squirrels and deers.You'll find tranquility and peace here! totally recommend.

It was a great place to stay while checking out Berryville and some of the local attractions including Dinosaur Land, the Virginia Arboretum, and Sky Meadows. We enjoyed playing pool in the basement, grilling on the patio, and hanging out on the back deck. Also was great for the dogs to have an outdoor space to run around off leash. Would highly recommend to a group of couples with or without pets wanting a relaxing weekend in the area.

This log home was beautiful and had so many wonderful amenities. It is in a very serene setting. We got to enjoy the deck several times in between rain drops. The downstairs game room was awesome and we enjoyed a few hours of ping pong and pool with our family. The doggie space was an unbelievable addition and a welcome room when we had to leave our boys behind. This log home and the setting couldn’t have been more perfect for a family gathering, Thanks to Kathryn who checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed…a fantastic host! Situated in a rural country setting overlooking forested areas and pastures, we were able to sip coffee on the expansive deck before sunrise while listening to a rooster wake up the forest residents (i.e., birds that then flocked to the bird feeders and deer and rabbit that grazed on the lawn). The property was clean and well maintained with more than enough space for our family of six adults to spread out and read, watch TV, play pool, table tennis or darts, or just relax on the deck and enjoy the view. The property was fully furnished with the essentials (i.e., bedding, toiletries, kitchen appliances, and even coffee), and was ready for our arrival. We did bring a prepared dinner and breakfast with us so we didn't have to shop for groceries until the day after we arrived; the local grocery store is about four miles away as are several farm markets. Making our stay even more relaxing, we were able to keep our dogs out of the house while having them eat, sleep, and relax in the enclosed, dog-friendly, furnished breezeway! Our dogs especially enjoyed the opportunity to run and play in the expansive dog run, and we could grab a couple waste bags from the property-furnished supply as we headed out the door. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property, and will make plans to return next year.

Our family stayed at this house over the Thanksgiving holiday and had a wonderful time. The house sits on nearly 10 acres on the edge of the Blue Ridge mountains, so the setting was beautiful, quiet and private. It's also just a ten minute drive to the charming town of Berryville. The house itself is huge, very clean and comfortable. We had six people staying at the house and occasionally you had to go look for someone. The owners made it clear that if we ever needed anything, just text or call them and they would do their best to accommodate us. But we really didn't need anything. Overall, it's a great property that we'd highly recommend. We hope we have the opportunity to stay there again.

Beautiful, peaceful deck overlooking the Shenandoah valley. Bird feeder, sunrise and sunset provided continually changing entertainment. Home was clean and equipped with everything we needed from basic spices and sugars to toiletries. Comfy beds and spacious rooms.

Our family came together from 3 different states in this lovely mountain home. The owners were easy to reach to ask questions and the property was just as described. Beautiful views of the Shenandoah, very comfortable log home with fireplace and geothermal heat thst kept wverything cozy for our December visit. The Christmas tree was up, a lovely welcome basket was waiting for us, and our weekend of hiking, wine tasting, and sharpening our skills on the pool and pingpong table commenced! Not only would I recommend but we may book another weekend at this property in the spring!

This was an incredibly beautiful home a short drive from DC. Stunning views, very peaceful and secluded, yet a close enough to nice restaurants. Our hosts were incredibly thoughtful and responsive. We enjoyed hiking at Bear's den, and the pizza at Nik's was really good. The local Thai restaurant was also very good. Highly recommend this home. Our dog loved the large fenced-in yard. It's a great weekend getaway from DC.

The house offers much that we did not use, but others might - an extensive lower level game room with pool, ping pong, kitchen & bar & table, exercise room; dog run; and outdoor grills & fire pit.Kathryn, the host, was very helpful & easy to work with from booking to departure. She had a reasonable answer to a special request, and responded promptly to a first night question that turned out to be nothing.We would love to return to Serenity Hill and would definitely rent from Kathryn again.

Was looking for something in the middle to meet up with our kids for their college spring break. Worked out perfect. House had a range of things to do ping pong pool table darts, relaxation on the deck watching the birds. Made a trip to DC one day and enjoyed some hiking not far away. This home had a dog run which made life so much easier, like being at home. The house was very comfy and homey. Tip***Watch out for the deer though one ran into our car while driving!

The property description and photographs are accurate, and the hostess, Kathryn, is tremendous! This is the second stay for my wife and I, our two adult children, my mother- and father-in-law, and our three Australian Shepherds. Although hot weather and frequent thunderstorms limited outdoor activities and excursions last summer, we had such a pleasant time relaxing and enjoying the property's indoor amenities that we decided to come back again this year. With fantastic weather the entire week (i.e., mild temperatures and no rain -- thank you, Kathryn), we were able to spend more time out on the deck enjoying the wildlife and mountain views, and we were able to visit local wineries, eateries, and shops. The property and location offered more than enough essentials, conveniences, and extras for us -- we never wanted for anything! Again next year...!?

It was perfect! We enjoyed the space - we had plenty of room to gather and be alone! We drove to many nearby (within 20 minutes) places for food, wine and fun! It was centrally located for what we wanted to accomplish! The view off the back deck - breath taking! Couldn't get enough! Very well stocked and very clean (especially for a dog friendly place).

It was a great place to stay while checking out Berryville and some of the local attractions including Dinosaur Land, the Virginia Arboretum, and Sky Meadows. We enjoyed playing pool in the basement, grilling on the patio, and hanging out on the back deck. Also was great for the dogs to have an outdoor space to run around off leash. Would highly recommend to a group of couples with or without pets wanting a relaxing weekend in the area.
