Downton Abbey Experience. The host (owner) emphasized it is an "ancestral home." They treated us like the Downton Abbey television show that portrays the 1920\'s -- without the dressed up staff. Diner was a must for the experience. They treated us like Aunts and Uncles coming to visit. Drinks before dinner in the library.... four course dinner.. drinks after in the library or drawing room. The land is so big that we took a 2 km (one hour round trip) through a path in the forest--- and was still on Clonalis House land. I retired two years ago and have been traveling since. We have stayed in over a dozen four and five star hotels -- including Ashford Castle. This is our favorite stay of all. Admittedly we did watch "Downton Abbey" so we got into the whole vibe. My advice to fans of the show --- don\'t go LOOK AT Downton Abby stay at Clonalis House for the experience of a lifetime. Remember not a "hotel" but an "Ancestral House." Ps they owned land for 600 years... house in new... if new is the 1800\'s. Dinner expensive... but a must.

This property is very pretty and unique. The staff were not welcoming and it was a bit uncomfortable. Lots of rules on property that we are not used to when staying at a guest house.
