Oceanfront White Stone Cottage w / plage privée!

The property is a quaint cottage that sits right on the Chesapeake Bay. The amenities are simple but adequate and comfortable (don't expect high-end luxury, though). The owner and property manager were very attentive and a pleasure to work with. The only issue we had was unrelated to the house; a big Nor'Easter resulted in storm surge that caused the Chesapeake to overflow the seawall and flood the waterfront neighborhood, including the property. Absent that, it would have been the perfect getaway weekend.

The interior of the property looked like the listing but the exterior of the property could use some upkeep. The owner of the property was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had during our stay. The place was quaint and the view was breathtaking. It had everything we need for a simple and relaxing weekend away. The fire pit was perfect for making s'mores and staying warm on the cool nights.

It was a nice get away for our wedding anniversary. We were able to bring our dogs and use the private strip of beach a couple of cottages away. This was a great quiet trip. The only thing that could have been better is the AC in the cottage. A window unit is provided but with 90 temps it couldn’t keep up.

While we are a very laid back couple who enjoy charming homes with lots of character, this home needs work inside and out. I wish I could post the pictures and video we took, but as I look back and compare many of these pictures are very outdated. Here are some of the issues we contended with during our stay: 1. Prior to arrival we were informed by the property manager that there was an electrical surge and the oven would not be working during our stay. She indicated she was aware and was headed to the property with a technician to address the issue. When I called her back later in the afternoon to see if it was fixed as we planned to cook during our stay, she indicated a part needed to be ordered and would not be arriving in time for our stay. 2. Upon arrival, the door was unlocked so we could access and we were told the key would be left on the table. There was no key left. When we alerted the property manager, we were told that she was going out of town and no one local would be available to bring us a key but we were in a safe neighborhood so we shouldn’t worry. 3. We had to flip breaker switches to plugs in the bedroom within the first 30 minutes of being in the home. 4. The master bedroom door does not close so if you are staying with others and looking for privacy, you likely won’t have much. 5. The bathroom door sticks as well and can be somewhat challenging to close. 6. The shower is incredibly slippery and the tile is chipping so be careful. 7. Dishes we hadn’t even used were dirty upon arrival. 8. There were no trash cans in the whole house. It was not until our last day that we noted two sitting out on the front patio. And we still had to take all our trash to the dump. The views are beautiful and it is a quiet little town, but in all honesty if the realistic pictures as to what the property looks like today had been shown on VRBO and we hadn’t fully committed to this trip, we would have found an alternative spot to stay.

My wife and I checked in and the front yard has several pieces of old furniture around the driveway ( chair and glass table) also the grass was very tall. Not a welcoming experience. The back patio was soaked by the condensation from the AC unit ( you will have to empty the bucket under it). This is the primary way to get the keys. The floors in the house are very uneven and makes the house feel unstable. Several places the wall does not touch the floor(door way master bedroom). The smoke detector batteries were low and I had to pull it down and disable it. There were no back up batteries available. We started to cook dinner. trash bags and dish soap are not provided. The trash can is out side and not continent for cooking. We also didn’t know if the water was drinkable. Make sure to ask, I never got an answer . There is a brita water filter but no filters. There is no place to plug in the coffee maker without moving the microwave. The one ac unit was not able to cool the house in the 3 hours we stayed. It was going to be too hot to sleep. The next morning when the onsite manager got back to me, she offered some additional fans. If the on site property manager does not answer make sure to call the off site property managers. I contacted the first number at 6pm and didn’t get a response back until 8am.I would have liked to have better contact with the property manager and a partial refund.

We absolutely loved the view from this home. It is close to downtown Kilmarnok which is such a fun little town- great boutiques and restaurants (even a popcorn place which was amazing). We used the firepit in the back yard and spent hours watching the bay- there is a set of binoculars in the house which was fun.The house is eclectic- it is the old style cinderblock beach house that you see in OBX and other beach towns. There is a lot of things to see inside the house- not a space was left without something. I was still seeing new things up to the last day.The nature of being a house from the 50's means there are some things that are just... different.But did I mention the views? That really made it worth it.

The outside porch overhang has separated from the roof and the columns have disintegrated and are taped to keep them together. The center point of the pergola overhang is about to collapse. There was a severe lack of storage-a narrow shelf behind the bedroom door and some hooks on the bedroom door and in the bathroom. The small dresser in the bedroom had random items in the drawers, dog hair and dust. There were dead bugs under the TV dresser in the living room. We found using a coffee maker set on top of a tall dresser very inconvenient. We were forced to set the coffee machine on chair so the cord would reach the plug. The kitchen definitely needs some TLC- packed with more dishes and worn out Teflon pans than a family could ever use.

I was very disappointed when we arrived at the cottage, even before going in it looked dilapidated and in need of a lot of work. On entering the house and looking around it was very disappointing! The photos did not show a true picture of the house, which was very small, old, run down and apparently had black mold in the shower and who knows where else. One of the people with me has asthma and after a few minutes of just looking around she started to wheez and cough and had to use her medication. The stove didn’t work, the kitchen was less than clean, the beach they speak of is not accessible from the house but 2 houses down. If you go over the neighbors yard to get to the beach there is a 500 dollar fine. The porch roof looked like it had rotted boards and was ready to collapse. The kitchen floor was warped and dangerous to my friends and I who are older. All the equipment and grill they speak of looked old and dangerous. I have never given a bad review but I could not let someone else get fooled. It is NOT what is advertised. We are trying to get our money back, but have been told we can’t prove it and the case is closed. Beware.

When I sent feedback to the host/ manager she called me and said I was nitpicking. Said she was proud of the condition of the property and it had gotten " raving " reviews. I actually cried the first night there because I was so disappointed. The photos of the property are deceiving. It looks good from a distance, but up close you see the poor quality of workmanship. Some things could be tweaked fairly easily to make it much more appealing.

The house has a sinking floor and is old, which is fine, but the look of all the work being done is just poor workmanship and was very disappointing. We expected a cute, old cottage on the water. Instead it looks as if no one cares about the house, and it is jammed with picturea, pillows, and dishes.

Drove up to property that had junk on it, along with very uneven grounds.. Trip hazards. Not enough lighting at night outside. And then inside, first thing we encountered was nats. Also ants all over kitchen sink. We love the view.

There is only one widow AC unit so the bedrooms are very hot and uncomfortable at night the living room has one couch and a dining room table so very cramped. There is no beach access even if you walk the 3 houses down as instructed there still is no beach access. But the view from out back is amazing especially in the morning.

We booked this for an anniversary trip, and the owner was wonderful. The location was amazing, too. The house is dated but full of charm. The bed and couch were comfortable, and the view from every window was amazing. The only negatives have nothing to do with the house and the obscene fees attached to it. But that is the service, not the house. We would 100% stay here again down the road.

The pictures you are advertising have to be at least 10 years old! Does not look anything like the pictures. False advertising for sure. Floors are sloped so badly that they are a fall hazard. Also very few electrical outlets so surge protectors are everywhere. That is what I call a fire hazard. Someone from your company needs to inspect this property before someone is hurt and your company will be responsible because you have been told. Certainly not worth the money spent!

There’s definitely some structural wear (think things held together with duct tape and love), the bathroom door doesn’t fully close or lock, and the foundation isn’t exactly flat.That said, if you’re a group of 20-somethings like us looking for a cozy place to lounge around, read, and spend time in the backyard, it’s perfect. Just be aware of a few important details: there is no direct beach access on the property itself, you’ll need to walk a few houses down to a designated spot. We also weren’t told until after check-in that dogs aren’t allowed on that beach, which was frustrating. And while dogs are welcome in the backyard of the house, they are not welcome by the surrounding neighbors or community, so this is not the most dog-friendly environment overall.It was also pretty difficult to get in contact with the property manager, as it took two days to get a reply to a question we had during our stay.Overall, the cottage could use some TLC, but for the right group, especially those who don’t mind a little rustic charm, it offers plenty of character and a beautiful setting.

Pics must be 10-15 yrs old. House is not cared for well at all. Structural and safety issues throughout. Host did not respond until Monday after 3rd attempt to contact. Still trying to get money back. Family rented 4 VRBO's total for a wedding. The other 3 were perfect this one should not be marketed.

Perfect vaca!! Just what we were looking for. Cute little quaint cottage. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful. Fantastic views, beach and susurrounding little townstowns.

Just what we were looking for,great bay view ,off the beaten path

The property is older but cute definitely waterfront with an amazing view.
