The staff was extremely helpful, especially desk manager and the lady bartender. The lack of a TV was no problem - we streamed what we wanted to watch using a very capable wifi signal. The bathroom facilities were better than expected given the age of the facilities - great shower. This is a great location for shopping and dining.

We were in room 213 which is a really nice and spacious king suite over the hotel lobby. There aren't any bedrooms sharing a side wall with the room, but it does share a wall with the upstairs bar area and the common bathrooms. Pros: Spacious room with seating area with a couch and two nice chairs. Mini fridge, water kettle, 2 coffee cups and 2 water glasses. Huge shower with rain showerhead. Bed was quite cozy. AC worked well to quell the noise from the town at night. Dog friendly. Front desk was amazingly helpful. The downstairs restaurant has great food and craft cocktails. Veranda was a really nice feature. It was a great place for us to enjoy coffee or let the dogs out for some fresh air. Morning coffee & muffins in upstairs bar. Free parking. $10/day/credit for food Cons: No elevator. No room service or other 'resort like' amentities to justify the resort fee. No towels for the dogs, blankets, bowls, etc. Quiet time begins at 11PM and the upstairs bar area can be noisy until this time. Soundproof doors between the upstairs bar and the hallway that leads to our bedroom hallway would be great. Bar across the street closes at 2AM and was loud. Central vernada is accessible to ANYONE entering from the upstairs bar (hotel guests or not) Our first night, people sat out there talking loudly until about 10:45PM. Floors didn't feel clean. Veranda was a bit dusty and could use a hosing down or at least a sweep. In all a really nice place, but wish our room was a bit quieter.

Fantastic restored hotel, friendly staff, gorgeous bar with excellent cocktails. Right in the main street of this beautiful old town. There are no elevators and lots of stairs so be prepared if you have mobility issues. No TVs for those who care… Lovely coffee and muffins every morning in the Grand Lobby.

Very unique building. Very old but recent remodel made it quite charming. The room was fantastic, the outdoor patio area 2nd floor was great. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and was quite good. Highly recommend

Historic property with a great location. However, definitely pay attention to the details we booked the suite, it was supposed to be the nicest room in the hotel, and there were definitely some housekeeping issues. The bathroom had toothpaste on the floor, and the couch was very stained and dirty. The hotel management definitely paid attention to our concerns, but these are things that a customer staying in the suite should not encounter.

The location, ambiance, room was nice. However, the cleanliness suffered, our room wasnt serviced at all that I could tell. Floors weren't vacuumed for the 2 days that we stayed. The 2nd floor bar was serviced 1 night, but not the other. Trivial issues, except for cleaning and servicing.

The hotel is gorgeous! Their service was great, the room was clean and so pretty. The bed was really comfortable. I definitely recommend for anyone who live historical buildings.

We enjoyed the vintage vibes, the grand lounge, the patio, and the amazing dining experience at Lola’s. The food and drinks were excellent. There were some pet hairs on our bedding upon arrival. The bathroom faucet had a minor leak. There was no microwave on the premises. The nude artwork was offensive.

Beautiful hotel in the best location in Nevada City. However, if you stay during the winter, the rooms are drafty and cold due to Victorian windows. So just be prepared. Staff brought me a nice space heater for the bathroom. Closing the thick curtains also helps. Would stay again .. a little pricey for the size and season…the e o oh bad part about the hotel is the morning coffee— it’s super weak…

I had a great big, nicely appointed room with an excellent bathroom. I would have liked a coffee set up in the room and a TV.( No TVs at NE). The restaurant was excellent, service was a bit slow though .

Amazing stay, loved the water pressure in the shower it was amazing didn’t want to get out of the over head waterfall head and the vintage wallpaper and beds and furniture are so perfect we had a great time

Remodeled historic hotel. The rooms were small but clean. Just a little noisy from the road and the room above us. The balcony was our favorite place to hang out. Remodeled historic hotel. The rooms were small but clean. Just a little noisy from the road and the room above us. The balcony was our favorite place to hang out. There was no television in the room, there was a Broken refrigerator left in the middle of our room and the heater Didn’t work properly and we were freezing all night long. Below freezing temps outside and our room was not much better. We called the front desk and they assured someone would call to talk to us about this but they never did.

Beautifully restored hotel, its historical integrity preserved. On the main drag in Nevada City, convenient to all. Superb restaurant. Among the best fried chicken I've ever had. Tastefully decorated with period antiques. In place of a TV, an old radio which you can tune to local station. Plumbing is temperamental and bathroom cold (winter), but these are minor concerns.

Couldn’t wait to get up to Nevada City to stay in this fantastically renovated property. We arrived around 5, 2 hours after check in and were a bit disappointed that our rooms weren’t ready. We were offered drinks tokens which was a good compromise but a late checkout wasn’t offered when asked which was a shame. Other than this little set back, the standard rooms were small but well decorated. Would book a more expensive room next time but excellent shower which was welcomed after 5 days camping in the wild.

A very kind Douglas checked me in and what a super kind person they were! They answered all my questions about the area and gave me additional suggestions which I appreciated. We also had an amazing dinner in the bar while listening to live music - all on a Monday night! We’ll be back!

I had a great big, nicely appointed room with an excellent bathroom. I would have liked a coffee set up in the room and a TV.( No TVs at NE). The restaurant was excellent, service was a bit slow though .

We were in room 213 which is a really nice and spacious king suite over the hotel lobby. There aren't any bedrooms sharing a side wall with the room, but it does share a wall with the upstairs bar area and the common bathrooms. Pros: Spacious room with seating area with a couch and two nice chairs. Mini fridge, water kettle, 2 coffee cups and 2 water glasses. Huge shower with rain showerhead. Bed was quite cozy. AC worked well to quell the noise from the town at night. Dog friendly. Front desk was amazingly helpful. The downstairs restaurant has great food and craft cocktails. Veranda was a really nice feature. It was a great place for us to enjoy coffee or let the dogs out for some fresh air. Morning coffee & muffins in upstairs bar. Free parking. $10/day/credit for food Cons: No elevator. No room service or other 'resort like' amentities to justify the resort fee. No towels for the dogs, blankets, bowls, etc. Quiet time begins at 11PM and the upstairs bar area can be noisy until this time. Soundproof doors between the upstairs bar and the hallway that leads to our bedroom hallway would be great. Bar across the street closes at 2AM and was loud. Central vernada is accessible to ANYONE entering from the upstairs bar (hotel guests or not) Our first night, people sat out there talking loudly until about 10:45PM. Floors didn't feel clean. Veranda was a bit dusty and could use a hosing down or at least a sweep. In all a really nice place, but wish our room was a bit quieter.

The hotel was charming and full of character which was wanted. It didn’t dissappoint from a comfort level either. The bed and pillows were so comfortable we had amazing sleep. The location of this hotel is perfection. You never have to drive unless you want to check out the state parks. Restaurants and bars and shops are steps from the main entrance.

This is the largest, and probably best hotel right in Nevada City, on the main street. But it is far enough from any live music venues not to be bothered. A beautifully restored/refitted old brick nineteenth century hotel. I would definitely stay there again in Nevada City. That said, it does not have 21st-century innovations like TV or swimming pools! But if you want old-timey Gold Country charm, I recommend it. The hotel restaurant is good, too. And the staff was professional

Overall our stay was very nice, the bed was comfortable, nice shower and adorable rooms. It’s obviously so well located, right on the main strip of Nevada city. It’s such a cute little town. The bar offered great drinks, we did not try the restaurant although it was popular and delicious! The only reason I cannot give it full stars is because their breakfast was just terrible. They put out 1 kind of muffin, a single serving bowl of yogurt with strawberries, hard boiled eggs and hot water/coffee. For a hotel that has a gorgeous restaurant and bar I would expect more effort to be put in for the breakfast. Especially since there wasn’t any alternatives open in NC to get it elsewhere.

Everything in the Hotel was great, especially the band in the bar! Had breakfast in the dining room, service was good, but the food tasted like it was cooked in rancid oil. But overall, we enjoyed our stay.

hotel itself was nice but we were in a room that was next to a door that led to stairs that went outside. Old Hotel that was renovated and is only a few floors. That ddor opened and closed all night and didn't get much sleep. Then came the garbage trucks next morning.

I spotted this hotel on a previous stay in Nevada City. For my second trip, I wanted to stay in the heart of downtown and The National Exchange did not disappoint. It's as rich in history as you'd expect and every detail within the hotel is well-preserved, from cozy, velvet furnishings to the exposed brick bathroom walls and high ceilings. I had a room on the second floor that opened to a sitting area, so I enjoyed reading out there. The balcony is a great place for the complimentary coffee and muffins, albeit a little chilly even for my August visit. I took plenty of time to explore, but settling back into my room each evening was a treat too creature comforts like soft linens and a mini-split. I loved my stay so much that I'm already booked for December's Victorian Christmas!
