Shenstone Motor Inn

Picnic table by our room half broken and one side sitting on the ground, looks like old table legs/lights from renovation (?) piled up behind where we had to park. Weather stripping around door missing and could see light around the entire door, electric heat was not turned on in the room and got down to 8 degrees at night so we were glad we brought a fan/heater from home for background noise, shower temp was actuality really good, towels were very small for showering, showerhead was kinda terrible. Wifi was virtually non existent. We paid our deposit in cash as we do not use credit cards and they do not accept debit for depisit (what?!) and then was informed we could not check out early or we wouldn't be able to get our deposit back as no staff are on before 1030-11am?! Really?? We will not be back.

Rooms were updated and clean but property was in rough shape. So called premium tv was the cheap basic package mostly pay per view. No pool or breakfast or any other amenities to justify the high price.

Our room was a good size with a nice layout. An adjoining restaurant provided casual dining with excellent food. A very kind, family run business.

Pleasant manager. Property in disrepair. Flys in restaurant. Junk and broken items outside rooms. Plumbing temperatures reversed. Comforter on bed well beyond its useful lifespan. No kleenex. Bath soap shatters if dropped (its very old and dried out). Entrance door looked like it has been broken into. Curled corners on carpet. Greenish cast to room lights. Small tv with limited channels. Appropriate price.

Beautiful property with a fire pit and chairs and a hammock. Delicious restaurant. Clean and comfortable rooms. Highly recommend!

Close to hiking trails and Wiarton. Restaurant on site was good and convenient for the guest. Free parking in front of room. Room was generally clean but bathroom was outdated, beds were uncomfortable, pillows old and flat and the windows had no black out curtain to block out porchlight which stayed on all night

We had a great stay at Shenstone. The owners were really great hosts and accommodated our needs to make our stay comfortable. Their restaurant closes at 8 but they served us after 10 on our special request! They also have good arrangements for bonfire. Rooms were specious for 4 people in each room and clean! Bathrooms were good too. Plenty of parking and good location right on the highway. Tims etc. about 5 min drive away. Owner also has beer etc. for sell.

Easy check in and front staff was quite friendly. The microwave and refridgerator in the room were very convenient. The motel was clean. The washroom and front door stuck a bit and needs to be checked. Overall, a very nice place to stay for the night.

Staff was very nice , room was revamped lately and it’s very nice bed is very uncomfortable but the room needed cleaning. Outside was very dumpy

Old furniture piled in the yard, door had no dead bolt, big space around the door. Bathroom had an old rusted floor heater almost falling off the wall, dirty windows. Not impressed

The property was much older than it looked in the advertisement. The check in service was okay. The room looked much older as well and everything in general was worn out. Everything had a lingering smell from whatever has happened in that building before, the bedsheets, the pillows, blankets everything smelled and were not properly clean. Even the tap water smelled, we’re guessing the system of tubes is too old. All of our problem was that it was not as advertised. We knew full well we booked something modest but were expecting clean and comfy. The place was anything but that. The area also felt very unsafe. It was right on the street with random people stopping by and making noise, because the motel had a restaurant as well. We didn’t dare to try the restaurant. Overall, not a pleasant stay at this place. Would not recommend!

I booked this property for an overnight stay while travelling. Late at night, after checking in I went to the room and I left immediately. The room was filthy. The room was not clean at all, dirt and grime built up in the washroom, debris on the floor. If at a quick glance I seen this much filth I cannot imagine what the bed and other areas were like so I left. I asked them for a refund but they refused. I continued to travel and found somewhere much nicer and clean 20 minutes away. I highly recommend not booking here this is not worth sacrificing safety, cleanliness and peace of mind.

I don't usually leave reviews but I'm doing this for constructive purposes and not out of malice because I think this is probably a family run business and I really respect that effort. Though the place appears clean on a quick look, the attention to detail isn't there. There were dead flies in the window sill. A dead fly in the coffee cup, not to mention flies in the room that kept getting in somehow despite me killing at least 10. There were hairs in the otherwise apparently clean beds (big long black hair in both beds under the sheets). There was hair on the towel. There were stains/substances on the mirror and tv screen that should have been wiped off. I can tell that they're trying but the standards need to be raised way up especially when there are so many other places they're competing with in the area. We stayed for one night before a backpacking trip but would not stay again due to the cleanliness. The lady at the front desk was very friendly when we checked in but the office was locked with a sign saying they'd be back at 11am on the Monday morning when we left. I wanted to give the feedback in person as online reviews can seem impersonal was unable to. It's a very old motel that needs a bunch of money injected to bring it up to standards and could have potential. The water in sink/shower had a smell to it which might be a local thing but if you want to run a business in Ontario you've got to have high standards on everything, especially at todays prices.

Stayed here for 1 night on October 12th. It was terrible. The room was very dirty. The room was in desperate need of a painting, the drawers were full of hairs, the mat on the floor was disgusting, the chairs were disgusting. The ceiling fan had dust literally a centimeter thick.The bathroom was ok. The exterior door was a hallow interior closet type door with an interior lock. If I would have been with my kids we would not have stayed.

Coffee machine didn't have any creamer. Place needed better cleaning. Bedding was old and worn out. No tissues, no disposable glasses in bathroom. Restaurant was hot and dirty. Description says office is open 24/7 but was locked in morning at check out time. Restaurant was unlocked but nobody there. Won't be back.

Friendly staff but lack of cleanliness.

The staff were great, but the motel cleanliness was subpar, when we arrived the hotel smelled so strong of cleaning solution, stung your nose kind of strong. There were some dead bugs around the room. The sheets didn't seemed like maybe they werent changed as there was some hair in the sheets. The room also didn't feel very secure, only a door knob lock and there was a door leading to a back hall way that was not allowed to accessed by us but it did lead outside. The wifi was really spotty and I thought there was free breakfast included which could have been my mistake but there was no breakfast. The staff were really nice and friendly but the place needs some work to make it more inviting.

Very bad 👎 Full of dust and bathroom is sticky and shower clothe smell badly. Not safe to stay because the lock of room is not secure. Bedsheet and the duvets are full of stains and flys are coming to the room. My day on this room was unforgettable. This motel is overpriced and they do not provide good towels too. Be careful guys.

Experienced a massive WiFi outage at the property for the entire first 24 hours of our stay. Might not have been an issue if it had not been for the fact that the cell coverage in the area is horrendous at best. Knowing this to be the case, I chose this place because of the free WiFi so I could keep tabs on my diabetic family member. The staff were sympathetic, offering the use of the office phone to call if needed, but the fact that there are no room phones and I could not even monitor the app to tell me if I needed to call the family kind of made that a moot point. Overall, the rooms are fairly up to date, with the exception of the bathrooms. The bedding has some staining issues from excessive use (darkened pillows, off-white whites etc). The motel is just outside of Wiarton, and the highway is super dark. There is (what seemed to be) a single light bulb illuminating the sign, so we missed it once while returning after sunset. While we were not dissatisfied, I am not sure we would return or recommend the place to friends or family.

The room was ok. Not very updated. Did not sleep as the people next to us were in ans out all night, slamming doors. This property is way over priced for what you get.

I liked it was close to all the amenities I needed. The room had an odor (musty/old smell). I did not like the extra door that went into a hallway. It just freaked me out. All in all, it was perfect for what I needed it for.

Even nicer than anticipated! Our room looked exactly like the pictures in this posting. Sheets were super soft and clean. Front desk was extremely welcoming. The location is an hour from Tobermory sites, and was the perfect choice for our budget.

Although the room was clean the overall value for the dollar was terrible. First the door only has a single lock, the mattress was old and soft, there was no hairdryer and the TV was very small. On this trip of 7 days we stayed at many 2 star motels that cost much less but were much better appointed. I would not recommend this motel unless you are absolutely in a pinch- very disappointed.

Room was very clean and quiet, comfortable beds and pillows, fridge, microwave and coffee maker in room. Quiet baseboard electrical heating. TV was a nice large size with hundreds of channels and news channels. Friendly service. We were very satisfied staying there. Definitely recommend Shenstone Motor Inn.

overall good, just in the middle of owensound and tobemory, excellent location. but close to drive way it was good for me, but bad for my wife, not a good sleeper.

This is your typical roadside motel. It had everything you needed, it was clean enough, the bed was comfortable enough, and the AC worked. I slept well.

We arrived at the motel around 3:30PM (check-in was at 4PM) and immediately had doubts when we saw the ripped screen on the door. At first glance, the room didn’t look too bad, but then we noticed flies everywhere. I went back to the front desk to explain that we were not happy with the room. Instead of offering a proper solution, the staff offered us bug spray and said, “you know we’re in the country.” We told her we’d rather not stay there, but she said they couldn’t adjust the reservation since it was made through Expedia and told us to call them directly. When we contacted Expedia, they reached out to the motel, who then denied the refund request. Would never stay here again and absolutely do not recommend this place.

We had a very positive experience. The Lady at the front desk was very helpful about things to do in the area and getting us set up in our room. The room was also very nicely set up and very clean. The beds are real nice and even the accent chairs are comfortable. Perfect temperature as well, and everything worked. I strongly recommend people to stay here.

The room was cold with no real temp control. The doors had simple push locks, not deadbolts so at any time, staff could enter your room. My smoke detector apparently needed a new battery on the first night and since there was no way to contact anyone (no phone in room) I had to listen to it...ALL NIGHT! Sat wasn't much better with a huge party going on in the hallway with actual clapping and cheering. Again, no real way to contact anyone so I went a second night with no sleep. The room was clean enough but if u looked, there was dirt accumulated everywhere. I definitely will not stay here again.

Manager Jay was helpful in every way possible to make our stay comfortable. Kitchen stuffs were also very nice and friendly towards us. If I am gonna travel around that area undoubtedly I'll stay there again.

Very good and helpful staff

The property was out of the way, but still close to wiarton and shopping. Stayed two nights with my sister. Would definitely go back.

Check-in was quick, staff were friendly and property was quiet. Location was convenient as we were visiting family in Wiarton and Owen Sound was just a quick drive the opposite direction.

Great area.

This is an older hotel & property so it appears a bit sketchy at first glance. However our room was tastefully updated with two double beds, TV, microwave and mini fridge. The attendant in the office gave us a friendly greeting & is very nice.

Very clean/spacious room. Newly reno'd /clean bathroom. New beds w good mattresses. Clean soft sheets. Nice to have mini fridge/microwave. Tv and wifi. Parking in front of your room. Great to have onsite restaurant. Lots of variety/choices and excellent food options. Will definitely stay again when we re in the area. Very friendly staff. Enjoyed our stay

They have the best burger I have ever tasted. If you even drive by stop at their restaurant best food. Very friendly staff .

We really enjoyed our stay here. Very convenient and you can do bon fire at night, sauble beach is nearby too. Food was very delicious and has many options for burgers, sandwiches and samosa. specially Indian masala tea was amazing. Definitely gonna visit again.

We were able to rest in this Inn. The owners were incredibly friendly. The food was really good and tasty. We would come back to this place.

I stayed at the Shenstone as it was convenient while hiking the Bruce Trail. The room is simple, cozy, and clean. The best feature is the friendly staff. And out on my hike, two separate people raved about the restaurant (the gyros and the poutine). I brought food but on my last night I ordered food and it was delivered to my room. It was a nice treat!

Restaurant was good and they provide Indian cuisine. Our stay was average. Wifi was not working. No proper network.

Wir haben hier eine Nacht als Zwischenstopp auf der Fahrt nach Toronto verpracht, dafür ist die Unterkunft ideal. Wir wurden sehr nett empfangen, haben direkt vor Ort am Abend noch ein solides und leckeres Essen bekommen und wir haben gut geschlafen und konnten direkt am nächsten Morgen ausgeruht und zufrieden nach Toronto aufbrechen.
