Located in the old quarter of Hanoi just a short walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, the hotel is a boutique hotel with an exceptional level of hospitality. Staff of the hotel are friendly and helpful and can anticipate your needs including a preference for a shower cubicle instead of a bathtub. The breakfast buffet is sumptuous with western and Vietnamese dishes served at level 9 where you can get a good view of Saint Joseph’s Cathedral. The rooftop bar and swimming pool is a good place to relax at night.

Pros: Located in “old town” a few doors down from the famous church. Close to food and shopping Close to other POI - Prison, Lake, church. Staff were amazing! Thomas the (Manager?) was very accommodating and helpful, made us feel like VIP. The room we booked was internal window, king size bed. Average size room for city hotel. I thought an internal window would mean looking out into an atrium type set up… it wasn’t. It was a skinny tall window that let you view a sky light. As we were hardly in our room we did not mind. But in the future, I’d post a bit more to have a view to the outside world. The bed was sooo comfy and the pillows were “dreamy”. The breakfast selection was good - on par with other hotels we stayed at. Swimming pool was smallish. Did have a gym but we did not use. Outside the hotel they have a convenient table and chairs where you can sit and have a drink and watch people go about their business. I would stay here again and would recommend to family and friends.

This is a lovely hotel in a very convenient location in Hanoi. The service is outstanding throughout the hotel—everyone is incredibly kind and helpful. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with great vegan options which was important for me. I highly recommend the rooftop bar too, as well as the spa! Would definitely stay here again!

Great 5 star hotel in the Old Quarter Hanoi . A great Roaring Twenties motif with amazing era furnishings. Rooftop bar and pool and a great spa downstairs. Perfectly located near all the activities in the Old Quarter. Great dining room with excellent food. The very best thing is the staff at all levels. The concierge staff are fantastic. They will find you , provide you or fix anything and everything you need . I have to mention Camellia , while everyone was wonderful she is amazing , beyond 5 star service ! Thank you Grande Hotel du lac , you made Hanoi a must return.

My room was clean with appropriate amenities. There was a bit of dust under the bed but nothing terrible. As I mentioned to the front desk on my way out my shower did leak around the drain a bit. A minor caulking event. I cannot say enough good things about the staff in the restaurants and in the Spa. I could live in the hotel forever.

Great location to shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant and roof top bar are excellent. The rooms are on the smaller side, but extremely clean. The gym is ideal for traveler workouts. The thing that really stands out is the staff, all very friendly, efficient and professional. Highly recommend, i will stay here again.

Nice boutique hotel in the heart of Hanoi. Location is very convenient as its near to everywhere but it could get noisy in the evenings. Nice and helpful front desk team but sadly they didn’t recognize my Expedia Platinum status and late check out wasn’t granted. Tiny spa downstairs but the service is second to none! Suit was nice and super clean, I would definitely come back on my next visit.

Staff, location and hotel were very good. I'll stay there again. Only issue I had was the rooms had no desk, but a small table and comfortable chair worked.

Likes: Great location in Hanoi Old Quarters with close proximity to many restaurants and shops (had a great haircut at a barbershop within walking distance and a restaurant that we ate there twice in 2 days), staff was courteous and polite going out of their ways to please, nice outside sitting area in front of hotel to drink tea or coffee and watch the rain and pedestrians. Dislikes: tiny room with internal windows opening into a ventilation column with lights (my first time in one), it felt like a shoebox with no access to the outside world. This room is probably okay for one-day stay and only to sleep. The room with external windows, which we were moved to the next day, was much better. However, the bathroom was still small and had an above ground bath tub that may be risky for older people to get in and out.

Great location to your old quarter of Hanoi. Hotel staffs are friendly. Thanks to Thomas, front desk manager for the warm welcome and given us a brief on hotel facilities. Room is slightly small and sound proofing need improvement. Other than that, breakfast was great and ideal location if plan to spend time around old quarter of Hanoi.

Thomas the (Manager?) was very accommodating and helpful, made us feel like VIP. The room we booked was internal window, king size bed. Average size room for city hotel. I thought an internal window would mean looking out into an atrium type set up… it wasn’t. It was a skinny tall window that let you view a sky light. As we were hardly in our room we did not mind. But in the future, I’d post a bit more to have a view to the outside world. The bed was sooo comfy and the pillows were “dreamy”. The breakfast selection was good - on par with other hotels we stayed at. Swimming pool was smallish. Did have a gym but we did not use. Outside the hotel they have a convenient table and chairs where you can sit and have a drink and watch people go about their business. I would stay here again and would recommend to family and friends.

We spent a night at this hotel, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Avoid room 407 without a window at all costs—the humidity was suffocating, making the stay very uncomfortable. The lack of ventilation only made it worse. Thankfully, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, which was the only positive aspect of our stay. It’s a shame that the room conditions didn’t match the level of service.

If you want a 5 star hotel experience stay here. From the moment we arrived our every need was looked after. Paula wasn’t feeling too well one morning and Benny in the dining room went out of his way getting herbal drinks for her and even sending some to our room that night. Thomas and Jeremy and the staff at the front desk made sure we knew where we were going and on our return would have drinks ready for us , much appreciated in the heat. A big thank you to all the staff.

This is a stunning newly renovated hotel in the heart of historical Hanoi. Upon entry the hotel stands up to their name, Grand with beautiful touches of European influence decor. The rooms were largely spacious and accommodating for even large suitcases & luggages. We booked last minute after leaving Da Nang due to a storm where were staying in an apartment suite in luxury hotel ocean front so we were not expecting much from a last minute booking with an internal window room but was pleasantly surprised with how beautiful it was! We found the breakfast here to be very Americanized and western style unlike the other places we stayed. They have offer a variety of fresh fruit, pastries, and hot entrees buffet style in addition to breakfast entrees and lattes made to order from a menu. We tried the banh mi on the menu but it was panini pressed and looked like flat bread which was interesting. I wish they would have just kept it authentic instead of accommodating to western and European travelers. Service was mostly friendly with a few being more pushy than the other places we’ve been - mostly with just the front desk as another reviewer stated. Lilly was our front desk representative that checked us in. Although she was nice, she said a few things that made us feel uncomfortable. Camellia was our guest relations officer who asked for 10/10 rating despite our honest feedback upon check out. Other than that I’d recommend this hotel for its central location & stunning rooms!

From the second we checked in I knew our stay was going to be amazing. The service is absolutely unparalleled. Anytime I had any questions I would message the concierge via WhatsApp and they replied immediately. We arrange for many services during our stay and they assisted with all of them. I was really unhappy with this hotel and had left a review stating as such originally because a staff member grabbed me when I refused to fill out their comment card as I was rushing to the airport in addition to a poorly maintained internal room. The hotel offered me a small refund (equivalent to 10 percent) in response which I appreciate. But honestly I regret taking the refund because the manager was very aggressive and constantly messaged me to take down my review, I had to block their number. I would continue to discourage anyone from staying here.

My fiancee and I stayed here during our week long trip to Hanoi. Besides the great location in old quarters, the good food and service, the staff is truly amazing. They especially went above and beyond on our last day when my fiancee got food poisoning the day of our flight. They extended our check out late into the evening so she could get as much rest as possible before the flight. They prepared hot tea and even got the kitchen to cook up some plain congee during off hours once she started recovering a bit. All of this was a no additional cost to us. Just on the great hospitality alone I would highly recommend Grand Hotel du Lac to anyone planning on visiting Hanoi.

Since the moment we booked our room, Ms. Camelia “Lần Phương” has been so helpful from our arrival to Hanoi with airport pick up to booking our tours and checking up with us during them. We absolutely love the hotel staff team, they had helped drive us to the post office for us to send stuff back home and even used their own motor bikes to drive us there. The staff treated us like family, they were so friendly and so attentive. My family and I have traveled through many hotels in Vietnam through the years but this is the first hotel that we absolutely fell in love with and we will definitely be back to this hotel when we come back to Hanoi.

I must say, I travel quite a bit and the Grand Hotel du Lac in Hanoi was spectacular. Gorgeous lobby, rooms and eating area. Yet what is even more amazing about this Hotel is the staff. Everyone speaks perfect English and is extremely courteous and helpful. Lily and Jack were especially instrumental in helping me navigate around the city. They added me to a WhatsApp chat and were extremely accommodating, responsive and easy to get a hold of, calling me cabs several times. They negotiated with the can driver on my behalf and when I didnt have time to go back to the hotel day of my return they arranged to have my luggage sent to the airport and coordinated so it showed up exactly when I arrived. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Hanoi, look no further. Love this place and all the staff!

Had an incredible 5 night stay at the Grand Du Lac. The rooms were very nice and comfortable (particularly the big bed) and the amenities were all clean and well maintained. A special Thankyou to all the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable - organising car transfers, tours to Ha Long Bay and all the yummy food recommendations. Overall the best feature was the location. Grand Du Lac is situated on a quieter side street, which had limited traffic and road noise, perfect for those sleep ins. Yet it was only a 1 minute walk to the church and start of the busyness/shopping areas. Would highly recommend! 10/10

Great location for visiting Hanoi. Just a 5-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the Hanoi old quarter, and a few meters from the St. Joseph Cathedral. The staff and hotel service were excellent; drinks and cold towels on arrival, ginger tea with evening fold-down service and a helpful team at the front door for anything we needed including helping stop the traffic so we could cross the street to our taxi! Grab is a local version of Uber and the hotel staff helped me set up my account so could use the ride service while in Hanoi (easy and good value). The hotel re-opened after covid in August 2023. We had an internal window room, but this was fine as we were either sleeping from jet lag or out and about around Hanoi. Breakfast was good with a variety of western and local foods and with nice views of Hanoi and the Cathedral. The road around Hoàn Kiếm Lake is closed to traffic over the weekend which made for a pleasant stroll around the lake and into the old quarter which was full of small shops, markets, bars and restaurants.

The service was superb, from the receptionist to the servers at the buffet. The buffet was ok, not a lot of varieties like other hotel I stayed. The bathroom was clean however the room was running down, the towels were roughly due to old towel. Since I have VIP, we didn’t get offered to upgrade. Also our room was next to the elevator, second floor, and you can hear the noice and talking when someone took the elevator.

They thought of everything before you even asked - bought show ticket for me because they knew the line is long, reminded me to get ready for Ha Long Bay pickup, arranged transportation, offered shower before midnight flight, how to eat local food, currency exchange, etc. Tips and advice on everything. This made my short 3 day-2 night stay so easy and efficient. Staff always friendly and helpful. Restaurant is great too, food, decor and ambience. I ate breakfast and two dinners there.

We had a wonderful time staying at Grand Hotel du Lac Hanoi. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was a pleasant stay. We had a mocktail at the sky bar and it was very delicious. Forgot what it’s called but it has dragon fruit, mango with hibiscus tea.

Great location to shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant and roof top bar are excellent. The rooms are on the smaller side, but extremely clean. The gym is ideal for traveler workouts. The thing that really stands out is the staff, all very friendly, efficient and professional. Highly recommend, i will stay here again.

Great hotel with fantastic service. We had breakfast in the top floor restaurant which has great views of the city and extensive menu options. There is also a lovely roof top bar. It’s really convenient for walking to restaurants, cafes, shops and sites. Close to the old quarter, lake, water puppet theatre (which was brilliant). A great base.

This is a lovely hotel in a very convenient location in Hanoi. The service is outstanding throughout the hotel—everyone is incredibly kind and helpful. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with great vegan options which was important for me. I highly recommend the rooftop bar too, as well as the spa! Would definitely stay here again!

The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming, but what truly made my experience memorable was the exceptional hospitality, especially from the breakfast restaurant team. The breakfast service was absolutely outstanding! Every morning, the restaurant staff greeted guests with warm smiles, genuine kindness, and attentive service. Their professionalism, positive attitudes, and attention to detail made breakfast such a pleasant experience. You can truly feel how much they care about their guests. I would especially like to recognize Hanna, the manager, for her exceptional professionalism, leadership, and hospitality. She is incredibly attentive, friendly, and genuinely dedicated to making sure every guest feels welcomed and well taken care of. Her outstanding service and the way she leads her team deserve special recognition. A beautiful hotel is always nice, but it’s the people who make a stay unforgettable.
