The interior was absolutely age appropriate and charming. Built in 1912, the house was immaculate and welcoming. We enjoyed the kitchen, porch, fire pit and just being in the country. Thanks for creating such a good space for all of us.

5 sisters aged 60 stayed at the Prairie Retreat. It was perfect for us--we appreciated the quaint old farmhouse and reading about the history of it and the careful renovation process undertaken over the years. So many nooks and crannys - everyone had a little private space when needed and also there was plenty of sitting spaces to gather altogether! The kitchen is well-stocked, plenty of towels and extra bedding available. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and scones on the outdoor deck in the morning; listening to the beautiful birds singing and the busy peepers and bullfrogs in the nearby pond. So charming! Beds were comfy; we would have loved to hike the many paths in the prairie but the weather just didn't cooperate. This house would be perfect for families with children and the owners are obvious dog lovers. Check in and out simple; owner was always quick to respond to messages and questions. We loved our stay here! Thank you Seth and Peggy

Had a great stay at the house. We had 27 people for dinner and we all fit in the sunroom. It is a lovely updated old farm house which does mean a smaller kitchen and small bedrooms with the exception of the master which was huge. The hosts responded promptly to every question. Very clean. There is also a very friendly cat!

The house was incredible. Truly even better than the pictures. So spacious. So many games, fully stocked kitchen, deck & plenty of seating...dog bowls, towels, so many beds! It was ideal! We will be back! The property is idyllic country setting & so peaceful & spacious!

I had the opportunity to host a gathering of friends and family in this big, beautiful home. The homeowners were wonderful to work with. The space was just perfect for our gathering, giving us the opportunity to spread out and visit in the kitchen, living room, and sunroom. Multiple spots for board games and a lovely property to explore were highlights for me. My guests enjoyed the heated floor in the sunroom immensely and talked about incorporating something similar into their homes. The space was comfortably lived in without feeling scruffy. It is a beautiful home and I hope to host gatherings here for years to come.

Just as advertised out in the country. Large home plenty of room inside and out. Older kids loved the bunk house. Would love to have stayed longer as we were just in town for wedding. Too busy to enjoy the entire property.

We were traveling from Boston, Miami, Ft. Myers and Michigan for a family wedding in Cedar Rapids and really didn't want a chain hotel. With 9 family members to accommodate, I searched a bit before finding Peggy and Seth's home. Its size, amenities and pastoral setting appealed to all of us. We arrived on Friday evening, got my parents, aunt and uncle settled and set off for the grocery store about a 15 minute drive away. We intended to prepare all meals at the house. The kitchen is very well appointed for a VRBO and for catering to large parties (OK, the burners on the cooktop are a little.. wonky!) and the gas grill was set with a fresh tank so we were all ready to go.We had drinks on the back deck and then all 9 of us gathered around the kitchen table for a great dinner. We had intended to have a fire and chat around the fire pit near the grill, but the wind was gusting and my nephew being a fireman nixed that idea. We set up in the living room and just enjoyed the home, after dinner drinks and catching up.Saturday started with a family breakfast, a hop across the creek and walk around a wildflower meadow bursting with flowers and filled with butterflies, birds and bumblebees.I have so much more to say, but am fast approaching the limit! We can't thank Peggy and Seth enough for sharing their home with us. It was an absolute oasis of tranquility that sparkled with fireflies and stars. They are hosts extraordinaire.

Nice large home in the country for large family gathering. Large inside sun porch and lovely back deck to sit/eat on and a fire pit with firewood. We heard many bird types, wild turkeys, bull frogs, other nature sounds. Beautiful area for walks.

We loved our stay. Everything went smooth and the property was great. Very rural and quiet even though it was only about ten minutes to Wal Mart. My wife and I use VRBO from time to time and have never seen a property so clean. I wish we could have stayed for longer.

We were in town for a wedding. The groomsman party stayed during the weekend. We were amazed by the unique house and property! The hosts sent detailed instructions online as well as a great binder with information on the property in the house. The house was so clean and stocked with plenty of everyday items needed as well as bonus items such as board games, toys, etc. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Highly recommended this stay!

Enjoyed our stay very much! A family getaway for family as well as a birthday party for my grandson and 4 of his friends. They had a great time exploring and we drove them to the lake just a few miles away as well. A very relaxing atmosphere and a lovely old home to spend the time in. Very well maintained.

The owner was really great with communication. The property is unique and the living space was fun and clean. The kitchen was sufficient. It was a bit challenging with one of the two bathrooms being in a bedroom and with the fifth bedroom being the bunkhouse. It was probably just an oversight on my behalf that I didn’t realize it originally. The streaming tv was a bit spotty. The deck was big and looked cool. It was just too hot to be out there. The yard kitten was a big hit for the kids.

When some people say a house has "character" they mean it with negative connotations. This couldn't be farther from that usage. When I say this house has country charm and character, I mean it in the best way. It was quirky, spacious, and inviting. We felt right at home as we made it our homebase for a weekend spent relaxing, enjoying each other's company and watching the Hawkeyes at Kinnick as they beat the Purdue Boilermakers. We couldn't have asked for a better location or amenities and everything worked out great. Highly recommend.

If you want privacy and room for you and your family to relax that is only 10 minutes away from town this is it. Kids had their own bunk house to themselves. Plenty of room/beds for a large crew. Sweet little house.

Enjoyed our stay for our youngest son's wedding. We were close to the venue, plenty room for the up to 6 guests who stayed at the property. Could have accommodated more. We did just a cookout with some extended family who stayed a few days after the wedding. Would definately consider staying at the prairie retreat again.

The room were comfortable. The family enjoyed walking around the property. The kids saw some deer, heard the geese and bull frogs. Loved the back deck. Very quiet and peaceful setting. One suggestion is placing more lights on the front porch and maybe ceiling fan.

My family and I had a wonderful time at this cozy farmhouse!!! We rented it for my daughters graduation from the University of Iowa so we could be together instead of separate in hotel rooms! There ended up being six of us, and everyone was comfortable in their rooms! My daughters shared a huge king bed upstairs! It was a great location!! it was easy to get to Cedar Rapids for the day and to get to Iowa City for graduation! I loved that there was a big dining room table for all six of us in the kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The two bathrooms were very nice. We watched a slideshow in the living room on the smart TV and it connected easily. We were too busy to really enjoy the backyard and pond, but it was beautiful and peaceful and you could see the stars very clearly at night. We did not use the extra room outside the house. He was a great host and answered all my questions. I would go back!
My family and I had a wonderful time at this cozy farmhouse!!! We rented it for my daughters graduation from the University of Iowa so we could be together instead of separate in hotel rooms! There ended up being six of us, and everyone was comfortable in their rooms! My daughters shared a huge king bed upstairs! It was a great location!! it was easy to get to Cedar Rapids for the day and to get to Iowa City for graduation! I loved that there was a big dining room table for all six of us in the kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The two bathrooms were very nice. We watched a slideshow in the living room on the smart TV and it connected easily. We were too busy to really enjoy the backyard and pond, but it was beautiful and peaceful and you could see the stars very clearly at night. We did not use the extra room outside the house. He was a great host and answered all my questions. I would go back!

5 sisters aged 60 stayed at the Prairie Retreat. It was perfect for us--we appreciated the quaint old farmhouse and reading about the history of it and the careful renovation process undertaken over the years. So many nooks and crannys - everyone had a little private space when needed and also there was plenty of sitting spaces to gather altogether! The kitchen is well-stocked, plenty of towels and extra bedding available. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and scones on the outdoor deck in the morning; listening to the beautiful birds singing and the busy peepers and bullfrogs in the nearby pond. So charming! Beds were comfy; we would have loved to hike the many paths in the prairie but the weather just didn't cooperate. This house would be perfect for families with children and the owners are obvious dog lovers. Check in and out simple; owner was always quick to respond to messages and questions. We loved our stay here! Thank you Seth and Peggy

Had a great stay at the house. We had 27 people for dinner and we all fit in the sunroom. It is a lovely updated old farm house which does mean a smaller kitchen and small bedrooms with the exception of the master which was huge. The hosts responded promptly to every question. Very clean. There is also a very friendly cat!

This property was spacious enough to host our group of 14 adults. Plenty of parking space. The property is at the end of a dead end, which made our stay very peaceful. The outside amenities was perfect for us. The homeowners were very easy to work with, prior, during, and after our stay. I would highly recommend this place!

The owner was really great with communication. The property is unique and the living space was fun and clean. The kitchen was sufficient. It was a bit challenging with one of the two bathrooms being in a bedroom and with the fifth bedroom being the bunkhouse. It was probably just an oversight on my behalf that I didn’t realize it originally. The streaming tv was a bit spotty. The deck was big and looked cool. It was just too hot to be out there. The yard kitten was a big hit for the kids.

I had the opportunity to host a gathering of friends and family in this big, beautiful home. The homeowners were wonderful to work with. The space was just perfect for our gathering, giving us the opportunity to spread out and visit in the kitchen, living room, and sunroom. Multiple spots for board games and a lovely property to explore were highlights for me. My guests enjoyed the heated floor in the sunroom immensely and talked about incorporating something similar into their homes. The space was comfortably lived in without feeling scruffy. It is a beautiful home and I hope to host gatherings here for years to come.

We were traveling from Boston, Miami, Ft. Myers and Michigan for a family wedding in Cedar Rapids and really didn't want a chain hotel. With 9 family members to accommodate, I searched a bit before finding Peggy and Seth's home. Its size, amenities and pastoral setting appealed to all of us. We arrived on Friday evening, got my parents, aunt and uncle settled and set off for the grocery store about a 15 minute drive away. We intended to prepare all meals at the house. The kitchen is very well appointed for a VRBO and for catering to large parties (OK, the burners on the cooktop are a little.. wonky!) and the gas grill was set with a fresh tank so we were all ready to go.We had drinks on the back deck and then all 9 of us gathered around the kitchen table for a great dinner. We had intended to have a fire and chat around the fire pit near the grill, but the wind was gusting and my nephew being a fireman nixed that idea. We set up in the living room and just enjoyed the home, after dinner drinks and catching up.Saturday started with a family breakfast, a hop across the creek and walk around a wildflower meadow bursting with flowers and filled with butterflies, birds and bumblebees.I have so much more to say, but am fast approaching the limit! We can't thank Peggy and Seth enough for sharing their home with us. It was an absolute oasis of tranquility that sparkled with fireflies and stars. They are hosts extraordinaire.

We loved our stay. Everything went smooth and the property was great. Very rural and quiet even though it was only about ten minutes to Wal Mart. My wife and I use VRBO from time to time and have never seen a property so clean. I wish we could have stayed for longer.

If you want privacy and room for you and your family to relax that is only 10 minutes away from town this is it. Kids had their own bunk house to themselves. Plenty of room/beds for a large crew. Sweet little house.

Enjoyed our stay for our youngest son's wedding. We were close to the venue, plenty room for the up to 6 guests who stayed at the property. Could have accommodated more. We did just a cookout with some extended family who stayed a few days after the wedding. Would definately consider staying at the prairie retreat again.

This house was a great place to just relax and enjoy time together with family. The ten of us found it a great jumping off point for attending the family reunion in Iowa City, visits to Kalona and the Amanas, an excursion to St. Mary’s Church in Newport, golfing at Finkbine and Amanas golf courses, and traveling to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville. The lightening bugs and the thunder and lightening storm were a bonus for family members who’d not seen them before!

We were in town for a wedding. The groomsman party stayed during the weekend. We were amazed by the unique house and property! The hosts sent detailed instructions online as well as a great binder with information on the property in the house. The house was so clean and stocked with plenty of everyday items needed as well as bonus items such as board games, toys, etc. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Highly recommended this stay!

The interior was absolutely age appropriate and charming. Built in 1912, the house was immaculate and welcoming. We enjoyed the kitchen, porch, fire pit and just being in the country. Thanks for creating such a good space for all of us.

Lovely! This was the perfect spot for a reading retreat with fellow book lovers. The kitchen is fully equipped, which helped us do shared meals. The home is full of funky art and homemade touches - very cozy. The prairie trails are a real bonus. Comfortable furnishings, heating/cooling, and water temperature.

Nice large home in the country for large family gathering. Large inside sun porch and lovely back deck to sit/eat on and a fire pit with firewood. We heard many bird types, wild turkeys, bull frogs, other nature sounds. Beautiful area for walks.

Lovely! This was the perfect spot for a reading retreat with fellow book lovers. The kitchen is fully equipped, which helped us do shared meals. The home is full of funky art and homemade touches - very cozy. The prairie trails are a real bonus. Comfortable furnishings, heating/cooling, and water temperature.

The interior was absolutely age appropriate and charming. Built in 1912, the house was immaculate and welcoming. We enjoyed the kitchen, porch, fire pit and just being in the country. Thanks for creating such a good space for all of us.

Fun farm house!!! So cozy and great spaces!! Lots of towels and dish washer pods which was great! Just needed a sponge lol. Highly recommend and we will be back!!
