One operating elevator for an 8 floor hotel. No AC in our room. Hotel should not be in service. Old and disgusting. A sign on the mirror apologized about the hotel’s condition and noted it would be renovated soon. Will never stay at a Red Lion again. We were also told to be careful outside after dark due to homeless population loitering around the hotel.

This property could almost be nice but it hasn't been kept up at all. The paint is peeling, all the vending machines are broken, multiple empty rooms have drilled out knobs and padlocked from the outside. Our portable air conditioning broke in our first room so we were moved to a room with central AC. That also didn't work so it was very hot at night. Also, on Saturday night a freight train came screaming through right next to the hotel twice at 2:30 and 4:30 am so sleep was impossible. That said, the staff was all very friendly and the linens were very clean.

The front desk staff is stretched and are aware that this hotel has many problems. Apparently, the air conditioning has not been working since June 2025, I was there in August 2025. Rooms facing the sun were easily 95-100 degrees inside. The hallway in floors 3 and 7 were easily 90-95 degrees. I was moved to the 7th floor, facing the roof the street main entrance and while it was better, one needed to open the sliding door. This room in the 7th floor was described as the luxury suite. It was not luxury by any stretch of the imagination. While the blankets were clean and bed was made, I think I was person number 10,000 sleeping on that mattress. Horrible mattress. The bathtub/shower showed signs of mildew and the water would not shut off… there was an incessant drip. Breakfast featured coffee and ultra processed foods. In the outside, the tile work leading from the parking lot to the back entrance were shattered. I could add more. I MO this hotel should not be offered through hotels.com. You ask, why didn’t I leave sooner, by the time it was 9 pm (I checked in close to 5 pm and went to get a bite) I did not have the energy to drive 5 miles for another option that was filling up and I was leaving at 6:45 am, Shame on ma at.

It is extremely rundown and broken. My door deadbolt didn't work, all ice machines didn't work. There was no warm/hot water to take a shower at 6am in the morning on Thursday and the parking was beyond sketch. Back door was broken and just open opening to the parking lot. Windows all filthy..................................

The air conditioning was broken in the entire building. I had called to say I would be late checking in and they didn’t mention this. They would only give us one small fan despite having 3 people on our room and by morning our room was a sauna. The parking is in back but there aren’t any doors available or even a sidewalk to get into the building; you have to walk on the driveway. This felt very unsafe for my kids, especially in the dark.

Great staff but the bedside lamp couldn't even be plugged in because the outlet was so far away. The bulb on the desk lamp was busted and I could have easily sliced my finger. The entrance ceiling light was out. Most of the outlets looked like they almost caught fire at some point. The A/C did not work and only blew out hot air. Our room overlooked the pool, at least I think that's what it is. It was super scary looking and appeared to be out of service and left to rot away.

Towels were very thin which is an indicator the the property is not being keep up to standard, 5. Toilet seat was loose, 6. The TV had no signal or instructions to aquire it, 7. The carpet was unswept, 8. Thne furniture shows much wear, 9. There was no Do Not Disturb sign, 10. The HVAC controls would not respond to inputs.

Check in was simple and Staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable…BUT our room was GROSS! Carpets were nasty, bathroom smelled of old urine, tub/shower looked so gross we wouldn’t even use it… and the air conditioning didn’t work, so at floor seven the room was as hot of the seventh level of hell. Glad we were only there one night.

The rooms and bathroom are decrepit and disgusting. I discovered bedbugs on the bed shortly after arriving and immediately requested a room change. However, the situation was unacceptable, and I checked out within a few hours.

The worst stay of my life. They actually do not have AC as advertised so I had to sleep with a sliding glass door open, which was over a drug alley. Silverfish bugs in my room. Broken lamps. Holes in the tub with shower curtain torn off. Crud wiped on the walls. And had to wait 20 minutes to get a bucket of ice from the front desk. Angry I paid money for this!

This place was disgusting and we will never consider staying again. We noticed we had blood on our bedding that soaked through the comforter and 3 sheets. We called the front desk for new ones as we know accidents can happen but it was still unsanitary. The receptionist told us we could come downstairs to get new ones, she gave us a trash bag to bag up the bloody bedding ourselves. We went upstairs to make out bed and realized she gave us a comforter with an even bigger blood stain!! She refused to give us a refund and argued that there was no blood anywhere and tried to say we lied about having pictures. DO NOT STAY HERE!

It was easy and affordable to book. But there were so many bugs in the room, not bed bugs, but so many dead ones and baby ones around the room. The pillow cases had a few stains on them as well. NOT a well maintained place by any means.

This is a very outdated hotel.We moved to 2 different rooms and they all.had issues. Water running, sliding door was wide open and wouldn't shut, curtains ripped. The carpet is filthy, mold in the shower. Area around hotel is sketchy. I didn't feel my car was safe in the parking garage. We would not recommend staying here.

I came here in tears after a hipcamp was so baking hot I couldn't stay and had to forfeit my payment there. I'd had a positive stay here in February, so put my trust in The Governor. It was ill placed this time. Despite the heat wave, the whole 7th floor's heater was on. My minifridge door was even open, so it was not chilling either. But I knew I was screwed when neither of my laptops could detect a single wifi network. My phone can see the Governor's wifi, so clearly the problem is both my laptops. So I tried the tv, which wouldn't turn on. The minifridge and tv were on one surge protector that was not even plugged in. The Governor has history and I had hoped it would remain a trusted home away from home in Olympia. Clearly, no longer.

The hotel and room was dated but clean. Front desk and check in was pleasant. Fall colors were nice from our balcony. The train noises late in the evening were disruptive.

If you're looking for a fancy hotel, this is not for you. It's a bit rundown, but I understand they are planning a renovation. The staff were pleasant, and it was clean. It was conveniently located near transit and the performance venue I attended, and there are good dining options nearby. The only negative I experienced was that the room was a bit too warm, and turning the cooling to maximum seemed insufficient. By the time I returned to the room around midnight, the temperature had come down to 73° F, which was tolerable. Overall, the hotel suited my purpose.

The listing undersold the view! Said the room had "city views". Didn't mention that the city had a lake in it, which we looked directly out on. Obviously that only worked because we were on the right side of the building and a ways up. It was an easy walk to several nearby restaurants, and of course, the lake.

I liked the proximity to downtown and the view of lake. Price was cheap, you get what you pay for. Property was shabby, safe not working, exhaust fan in bathroom not working, had to ask for clean towels next day, given towel that was threads. Trash can dirty/smelly under liner. Other quests car broken into in underground parking, homeless mental patients roam the streets, don’t go out at night. Bed was comfy.

Some of the rooms have a view of Capitol lake, which is really cool. The hotel itself is very dated and the rooms reflect it. Our bedspread had what appeared to be a blood stain on the corner, as well as a white stain on the office chair. The room had a fridge, and everything else besides the phone was in working condition. The staff at the front desk were professional and friendly the whole time we were there. The hotel is right near downtown, so there is lots to go see and do, but there is also garbage and drug use all around the area. Not the hotels fault, but it can feel a bit unsafe to go outside at night.

When we arrived the young lady was amazingly friendly and helpful. However, later that evening whom ever was in charge of the front desk was so rude and not helpful. We needed more towels and the toilet kept clogging. Due to the poor treatment we didn’t even want ask about why our shower would only do so hot it was impossible to shower or so cold you are freezing! The young man there in mornings was super friendly and helpful even tho he was by himself running breakfast, front desk and answering all calls.

Room was clean and modern, Check in and out staff were very friendly and helpful. There are all the stores, restaurants and bars within a very short walk. I will definitely stay at this location again.

I knew from the mixed reviews and the price more or less what I was getting into. Location is amazing, a teensy bit sketchy but I did not feel like I was in danger . Wonderful park across the street, and Percival landing behind. The property is very run down, peeling paint in showers and bathrooms, cracks in the walls, water-damaged or broken ceiling panels. All the doors to the building were unavailable except the front , so if you park in the back you have to walk around. That being said you can park down below and come up the elevator which is easier. Breakfast was ok, not great, no orange juice the 2nd day, and I’d get your coffee elsewhere . That being said, the staff and their helpfulness and responsiveness were great. I didn’t like my first room and they switched it right away to a much better room, they gave me a box fan for my second night as there is no a/c at the moment. Would I stay here again? Yes, as long as I’m not going for vacation or a luxurious experience. It suited my needs for this trip.

The hotel is in good condition considering the age of the building. It´s not a remodeled hotel, but it was clean, comfortable, and I enjoyed my stay. I was able to save money by walking to the library as well as receiving a discount at a restaurant they recommended. Jilian was the absolute sweetest and most accommodating attendant. I will be rebooking for future business trips.

Facility is beginning to show its age. Wall behind toilet had peeling paint, cracked bath tub, wall in bedroom had red splash stains (originally thought was blood, but trying to clean it, I believe now is nail polish). Facility was clean, staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was perfect. Parking lot was large enough to handle our F150, and lots of restaurants within walking distance. Several homeless on streets, but had a fun stay.

The listing undersold the view! Said the room had "city views". Didn't mention that the city had a lake in it, which we looked directly out on. Obviously that only worked because we were on the right side of the building and a ways up. It was an easy walk to several nearby restaurants, and of course, the lake.

We always stay at the historic Governor Hotel when we visit Olympia. The location is excellent, views of the Capital Lakes beautiful, continental breakfast offers good choices, staff are always friendly and helpful.

Courteous staff, comfortable clean beds, and good price. Building was dated with ceiling tiles crumbling and carpets in room were a bit sticky (keep your shoes on until last minute when you jump in to bed). Needs a makeover for sure, but I had a good sleep and hit the i5 after eating some boiled eggs (breakfast included), not bad.

I normally don’t complain about my stays. But this was expensive. They forgot to put out breakfast 3 days in a row. Stale bread isn’t breakfast. No waffles, no meat, no eggs…means no breakfast.

I booked a room it showed a picture of a Governors suite with a full Kitchen, and there was none. The first room they gave me was a queen room with no microwave. I had to go to the desk and tell them I booked a Govenors suite with a full kitchen. They told me they don't have any, those are only at extended stay hotels. They claimed Travelocity falsely offered it. I had no room service, if I needed linen,I was told to bring mine down and they would replace it. On the second day, I asked if they could empty the trash and re-stock every thing. By the time I got back that evening, nothing was done. I had to go to the desk and complain, then they sent a maid to do it. My trash cans were so full I was going to dump them in the hall if they didn't do their job. I will never stay at a Red Lion again. The advertised breakfast buffet was nothing but cereal, muffins,banana's, apples, bagels coffee, and juice...WOW. NOT WHAT I PAID FOR :( :(

I should have read the reviews. All the bad was still there: no AC, really ugly bathtub with what looked like mold but i guess it was delaminated fiberglass and attempted touch up paint. Room with two queen beds, allegedly “premium” only had one set of towels in the bathroom. Asking for more like pulling teeth. Eventually got two bathmats and two more washcloths. Ever dry yourself with a bathmat sized “towel”? Had to sleep with sliding “balcony” door open for air and we were on the street side. Knob missing on lamp so had to unscrew the bulb to turn it off. No hot options for breakfast, no hot water for tea or instant oatmeal. Asked for some but it never appeared. The cold cereal dispenser barely worked. The guy after me shook it and pounded it on the counter. Don’t know if he got any. Overall I would not recommend this property. Apparently the renovations seem to be an excuse for the property barely being “maintained”. And how hard is it to have enough towels for guests? I should have known it was going to be bad when i walked in and was informed that i had no reservation in their system. I even showed my hotels.com confirmation and receipt for payment. Finally he said oh here it is under Expedia. Seriously? Description needs to be seriously changed to the real situation here. No AC or towels! And the door to the parking lot is propped open; i guess in case it rains the homeless guy by the lot entrance can get in out of the rain.

Was hoping for a little nicer of a place being a Red Lion location. The AC barely worked in my room which made the room sweltering in the summer heat. One big positive was that the room had a large sliding door with small balcony which I was able to open to allow cool air in. Very nice view of the capitol and lake. However, the room needed a little more attention to detail in it's cleaning since there was blood smeared on the wall of the bathroom, the hotel kind of has a cigarette smell to it, and something on a washcloth cut me while washing! The towels they give you are tiny, there is basically no water pressure, but at least the bed was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly but seemed a little understaffed and stressed, and unfortunately all they had for breakfast was bagels and cereal, and I can't eat wheat products so I couldn't really utilize the free breakfast.

Breakfast was nice- fruit! Elevator was bright - pleasant. Desk attendant was very pleasant & responsive & gave us a new room as toilet clapper & seat was broken, tub with open drain, tub hugely peeling, sink faucet totally loose from sink #416. The next room was missing the sink drain apparatus & the sliding door was hard to move but all the rest was in working order. (There was a sock & pair of underwear on the roof which our room was attached to. The rooms provided hearty laughter there was so absurb.

Overall the stay was good. The temperature was decent and we were able to sleep. The breakfast was good for a hotel downtown.This is a pretty good hotel just needs a little TLC. It could be what it once was. I would stay here again.

The heater was rattleing all night long and still the room was cold back doors of hotel not working have to walk all the way around hotel homeless living near by always asking for cigarettes pr coffee, parking sucked

It was within walking distance to everything, but the heat was blasting in the hallways. All of the drink machines were sold out and the snack vending was overly priced. The staff suggested I drink from the water fountain and just shrugged while saying “I’m sorry.” The AC wasn’t working in the room so it was just too unbearable to stay and I left to sleep else where. Easy fixes could improve these small hassles.
