A lovely hotel with one major drawback - the swimming pool area. The pool is not for sole use of the hotel, it's part of a beach club. You need to book your slot 24 hours in advance and during busy times can only book half day slots. Worse still, the beach club assign less than favourable sunbeds to the hotel guests. On the first day we went there we were placed next to the very smelly bins along with all the other hotel guests. Access to the beach club is either through a labyrith of tunnels beneath the hotel and main road or by crossing the road. It's not part of the hotel. Other than that it was great.

Clean and spacious, with good facilities. Staff were polite and generally helpful. Breakfast buffet was very good. The pool and poolside area is independent from the hotel and reached through a tunnel under the main road. You have to get a reservation ticket to use the sunbeds, and only a proportion of the sunbeds are allowed for hotel users. We asked for adjoining and if possible connecting rooms in advance, and received an acknowledgement of this: "room allocations next to each other is subject to availability on the day of your arrival. While we cannot guarantee it, we will certainly take a note of your request and do our best to accommodate you." On arrival we were assigned rooms that were 4 floors apart, one of which had a connecting door to another room. How hard is it for a modern hotel to reserve two adjoining or connecting rooms in advance? We consider this poor customer service; very disappointing.

Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nice clean room with large bathroom decent sized shower. There was a blue sensor light on the ceiling which did disturb sleep as it lit up with the slightest of movement and the ceiling was too high to cover the light temporarily. Stayed in March so too cold and windy to enjoy balcony which had a partial sea view and view of Valetta. Room service overall was good, but some issues getting tea and coffee to cover both an evening drink and morning, though this eventually got sorted. Also found balcony door had been left partially open on one occasion after room had been serviced. Indoor pool hours could be better but would meet most people’s needs. Outdoor pool was a good size, though sadly didn’t get a chance to use it. Good sized gym with lots of equipment on offer. The lobby was lacking atmosphere and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. The bar area is across the road and down a level as it forms part of the outdoor pool area, but a small bar in the lobby would get passing trade as well as make a nice pit stop before heading to room. Didn’t use restaurant or have breakfast as lots of options for food and drink in the general Sliema area.

The room was beautifully decorated, with all the comforts we'd expect and more. The amenities at the hotel are great. Use of the gym for free was a real bonus for us and one of the main reasons for booking. It's a fantastic facility. Access to the outdoor pool at Manta was straightforward and another great bonus. However, the service at Manta leaves a lot to be desired, though I accept this is not likely anything to do with the hotel.

Kitűnő szálloda, nagyon tiszta. Pro: van kinti és belső medencéje, finom és bőséges reggeli, saját napozó terasz. Kontra: Valletta gyalog távol van, de busszal és taxival könnyen megközelíthető. A külső medencéhez egy nappal előtte be kell jelentkezni, a belső medence kicsi és hozzá tartozó napágyak száma kevés.

I love this location and hotel. Staff were amazing. Cleaning crew were amazing twice a day. One think I want to tell pool is not part of hotel and you get some disappointment where you can be in pool area.

The hotel is located in Sliema. All tours from the boats and buses leave from there. You have access to beach club pool and nice gym for free. Plus, the breakfast buffet is awesome!! Lots of options. There a variety of options for lunch and dinner a few minutes down the street. I highly recommend this hotel. It’s new and modern. The staff was amazing.

Very clean with good rooms and location. Staff at reception and breakfast friendly and helpful. Not so much at the spa/pool and the gym was closed all week which was a shame. Music too loud at the pool - not very relaxing. Coffee at breakfast disgusting- surely an essential part of a good hotel breakfast.

De kamers zijn mooi groot en in nette staat, helaas is na het nemen van een douche de kamer veranderd in een zwembad. Nu kan dit gebeuren in een net geopend hotel maar het personeel heeft overduidelijk geen opleiding hospitality genoten. In de ochtend om 06:30 probleem gemeld en na het werk om 21:00 was er niks ondernomen. Het personeel staat er schaapachtig bij te kijken en schouder ophalend. Heeft nog 2 uur geduurd voor er nieuwe kamers geregeld waren. We waren er voor werk en het bleek ook onmogelijk om 3 kamers gefactureerd te krijgen op 1 factuur. Vervolgens ben ik nu al een dag bezig om mijn deposit van € 450 terug te krijgen. Totaal geen capabel personeel echt doodzonde van in potentie een mooi hotel op prima lokatie. Overigens zou het ook best prettig zijn als personeel zijn verontschuldigingen aanbied en met oplossingen komt ipv alles nog erger te maken. Kortom mooi hotel maar zou ze overslaan tenzij je het leuk vind om van de regen in de drup te komen.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay left much to be desired. While the hotel appears promising online, the actual experience didn’t match the marketing. • The pool area is severely misrepresented. The pool beds for hotel guests are nothing like the promotional photos — they’re far less appealing and must be reserved a day in advance, which isn’t disclosed clearly. They shouldn’t be advertised as part of the stay if access is this limited. • Cable service was unreliable, frequently cutting in and out. • My shower flooded every time I used it, making the bathroom messy and uncomfortable. • Housekeeping was inconsistent — daily water wasn’t replenished, and after using the provided shower cap, it was removed and never replaced. • I attempted to call the front desk multiple times, but no one ever answered. • The hair dryer is oddly stored in a closet with a very short and restrictive cord, making it awkward to use. • Lastly, be warned: if you open your curtains, neighboring rooms can see directly inside, offering little to no privacy. This stay felt frustrating and underwhelming, especially for the price point. I wish I stayed somewhere else.

Amazing hotel in a really great location. Very modern and clean rooms. The cleaning staff were nothing short of amazing for the 8 days we were there. Every member of staff was so helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this modern hotel for your stay in Malta.

Lovely hotel with very attentive staff. Rooms were cleaned during the day and then again in the evening with a nice touch of chocolates being left on the bed for us. Very Spacious room with a very large comfy bed. The Pillows aren’t great, but there are 3 to choose from. A LOT of noise comes through the doors, but the rest of the room was soundproofed well. Awkwardly positioned hairdryer with a very short cord means you need to dry your hair with your head in a cupboard. A really great stay.

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufwnthalt im Barcelo. Sehr sauberes Hotel mit äußers zuvorkommenden, hilfsbereite und freu freundlichem Personal. Die Lage und Anbindung an das öffentliche Verkehrsnetz ist hervorragend. Fußläufig sind viele Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten erreichbar. Einen Verbesserungsvorschlag haben wir dennoch. Wir hätten uns beim Fhrühstücksbuffet mehr Abwechslung gewünscht.

Location: it’s in a convenient location and easy to get around by walking to shops, high street, supermarket and restaurants. Even meeting points for sightseeing tours/trips was perfect! Hotel facilities: Still some improvements to be made, access to the outdoor pool is somewhat a trek (however underground) and access card is needed to and from pool. Shame the indoor pool is restricted as no kids allowed, shame I missed this prior but thankfully the weather was nice so didn’t inconvenience much. Room: The room was clean and spacious, the rug could’ve done with some cleaning/shampooing but the bed was perfect and comfortable so sleep was great! Cleaning: the staff were mostly attentive and friendly when tidying however they missed replenishing towels and emptying the bins which I had to ask them to do. Bathroom: the rain shower in the ceiling appears to be a huge mistake in their planning and the handheld function only caused more water to flood the bathroom floor. Air Conditioning: this didn’t work initially and there was a problem with it as was still on heating mode and centrally controlled so uncomfortable first night but it was eventually resolved next day, but was soon heating up again so no consistency in cooling and became uncomfortable. The repetitive interference and having to phone reception was a distraction from holiday relaxation. They attempted to move me and my little one but at a cost which was unfair @ €20 but thankfully the AC was fixed.
Location: it’s in a convenient location and easy to get around by walking to shops, high street, supermarket and restaurants. Even meeting points for sightseeing tours/trips was perfect! Hotel facilities: Still some improvements to be made, access to the outdoor pool is somewhat a trek (however underground) and access card is needed to and from pool. Shame the indoor pool is restricted as no kids allowed, shame I missed this prior but thankfully the weather was nice so didn’t inconvenience much. Room: The room was clean and spacious, the rug could’ve done with some cleaning/shampooing but the bed was perfect and comfortable so sleep was great! Cleaning: the staff were mostly attentive and friendly when tidying however they missed replenishing towels and emptying the bins which I had to ask them to do. Bathroom: the rain shower in the ceiling appears to be a huge mistake in their planning and the handheld function only caused more water to flood the bathroom floor. Great location with friendly helpful staff. The room was big and very clean. Great amenities. Lovely place to relax and unwind with a great view of Valletta from the balcony. Will definitely stay here again. Also the shopping mall is next door!!

I’ve enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Mainly the view we had was amazing and the size of the balcony was great. Also rooms were modern, lots of space for clothes, luggages. Walking distance to the shopping center, beach. The downside was the leak of water from the shower door.

Un hôtel récent , ouvert peut être un peu trop tôt. Toujours en travaux . Le spa est fermé , une piscine sur deux de disponibles. Problème dans l’ensemble des douches ( l’eau coule et transforme la salle de bain en piscine ). L’hôtel méritera les 5 étoiles que prochainement. Le personnel est plutôt sympa, au petit soin. Très belle chambre avec vue sur La Valette. Je reviendrai mais pas dans l’immédiat. Je vous souhaite un beau succès.

La chambre supérieure avec vue peut être sur un énorme escalier devant l'hôtel (voir photo). Je n'ai pas apprécié la réponse du responsable qui me dit que c'est bien la chambre réservée sur hotels.com. Hors sur le site de hotels.com, on nous montre une chambre avec une magnifique vue sur la Vallette! Au 2ème étage, nous avions l'impression d'assister au grand prix de formule 1 de Monaco. Le Barceló se trouve à la sortie d'un tunnel et le vrombissement des motos peut gâcher votre nuit de sommeil. La chambre est confortable mais aucun espace prévu pour les valises.

I had a room on the 8th floor with a long balcony and a beautiful view of Valletta. The hotel is nicely located in Sliema with easy bus and ferry access. The room was large and the bathroom has a show and nice tub. Definite recommend.

Was offered an upgrade and wow!!! Room had a massive bathroom with jacuzzi bath and dermalife capsule. The view was amazing with views of the basilica and all the way down to Sliema. Staff very friendly and helpful. Just amazing!!

Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nice clean room with large bathroom decent sized shower. There was a blue sensor light on the ceiling which did disturb sleep as it lit up with the slightest of movement and the ceiling was too high to cover the light temporarily. Stayed in March so too cold and windy to enjoy balcony which had a partial sea view and view of Valetta. Room service overall was good, but some issues getting tea and coffee to cover both an evening drink and morning, though this eventually got sorted. Also found balcony door had been left partially open on one occasion after room had been serviced. Indoor pool hours could be better but would meet most people’s needs. Outdoor pool was a good size, though sadly didn’t get a chance to use it. Good sized gym with lots of equipment on offer. The lobby was lacking atmosphere and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. The bar area is across the road and down a level as it forms part of the outdoor pool area, but a small bar in the lobby would get passing trade as well as make a nice pit stop before heading to room. Didn’t use restaurant or have breakfast as lots of options for food and drink in the general Sliema area.

Our stay was overall pleasant. The hotel is in a great location on the Sliema side, with a bus stop and ferry stops conveniently nearby. The room itself was nice, and we appreciated the twice-daily room cleaning service, which was a lovely touch. However, the soundproofing could be improved, as noise from the neighboring room was disruptive at times. The food offered a variety of options, but the quality was average. Unfortunately, there were very few vegetarian options, and no lactose-free milk was available, which was disappointing. Additionally, a male supervisor in the restaurant was quite intense and intrusive, often making unnecessary comments to guests, which detracted from the dining experience. On a brighter note, Fatima from Spain, part of the restaurant staff, was exceptionally friendly and helpful, which we truly appreciated. A lovely surprise during our stay was a chocolate cake to celebrate my birthday—even though we hadn’t mentioned it. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated. Thank you!

The view and location were what sold me on Barcelo. Cant beat a view across the water to fabulous viiew of Valletta. Location to restaurants and the ferry or other rental boats was great Our room was really huge and very modern. Our balcony was also a plus. Worth the extra money to get a room with a view.

Clean and spacious, with good facilities. Staff were polite and generally helpful. Breakfast buffet was very good. The pool and poolside area is independent from the hotel and reached through a tunnel under the main road. You have to get a reservation ticket to use the sunbeds, and only a proportion of the sunbeds are allowed for hotel users. We asked for adjoining and if possible connecting rooms in advance, and received an acknowledgement of this: "room allocations next to each other is subject to availability on the day of your arrival. While we cannot guarantee it, we will certainly take a note of your request and do our best to accommodate you." On arrival we were assigned rooms that were 4 floors apart, one of which had a connecting door to another room. How hard is it for a modern hotel to reserve two adjoining or connecting rooms in advance? We consider this poor customer service; very disappointing.

The room was more spacious than I was expecting and had a touch of luxury about it. I can't fault the buffet breakfast and facilities available. It felt value for money. The staff who worked for the hotel were lovely, so it was a shame that the external staff at the shared facilities (Ina and Manta) were often unfriendly and unhelpful. I also found it bizarre that the hotel didn't deter large groups of local teenagers from hanging around the front of the hotel and even the bar balcony area for several hours.

The room was beautifully decorated, with all the comforts we'd expect and more. The amenities at the hotel are great. Use of the gym for free was a real bonus for us and one of the main reasons for booking. It's a fantastic facility. Access to the outdoor pool at Manta was straightforward and another great bonus. However, the service at Manta leaves a lot to be desired, though I accept this is not likely anything to do with the hotel.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay left much to be desired. While the hotel appears promising online, the actual experience didn’t match the marketing. • The pool area is severely misrepresented. The pool beds for hotel guests are nothing like the promotional photos — they’re far less appealing and must be reserved a day in advance, which isn’t disclosed clearly. They shouldn’t be advertised as part of the stay if access is this limited. • Cable service was unreliable, frequently cutting in and out. • My shower flooded every time I used it, making the bathroom messy and uncomfortable. • Housekeeping was inconsistent — daily water wasn’t replenished, and after using the provided shower cap, it was removed and never replaced. • I attempted to call the front desk multiple times, but no one ever answered. • The hair dryer is oddly stored in a closet with a very short and restrictive cord, making it awkward to use. • Lastly, be warned: if you open your curtains, neighboring rooms can see directly inside, offering little to no privacy. This stay felt frustrating and underwhelming, especially for the price point. I wish I stayed somewhere else.

Amazing hotel in a really great location. Very modern and clean rooms. The cleaning staff were nothing short of amazing for the 8 days we were there. Every member of staff was so helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this modern hotel for your stay in Malta.

We stayed for three nights. We had a partial harbour view which was lovely. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The room is well equipped and comfortable. Not eco-friendly as they replaced our towels each day even though we hung them up, and only replaced the bathroom bits a couple of hours before we were checking out?? They did a lovely cake and free gift. Tora was also great for lunch with an amazing view and a walk through the labyrinth under the road to get there! Only a few minutes walk to the ferry terminal to go over to Valetta. Sleima is definately the tourist side, but has a great view and lots of restaurants. Would recommend!

Das Hotel im Stadtteil Sliema liegt sehr gut gelegen gegenüber der Altstadt von Valletta. Wichtige Bushaltestellen für Malta-Ausflüge sind gut erreichbar, zudem gibt es eine Fähre nach Valletta. Das Hotel ist neu, die Zimmer sehr schön, Service und Frühstücksbuffet überragend. Eine absolute Empfehlung für einen Malta/Valletta-Besuch.

Had a pretty decent stay at Barcelo Fortina Malta. Check in was easy and smooth. I booked last minute and the only room available was their cheapest option. It was room 237 and the balcony faced the bridge leading to the mall next to the hotel. People constantly crossing so couldn't leave the curtains open as they could see straight into the room. In future if all available is their cheapest room I wouldn't book. The breakfast had a good selection and finished at a decent hour allowing a bit of sleeping in. The coffee tasted cheap however. At the egg station Anthony made some of the best omelettes I've had in years. Only issue we had was that the clothes iron we had in our room was leaking water and not working properly. Housekeeping came to see about it and instead of simply changing it for a working one, seemed to interrogate us and made it seem like our fault the iron wasn't working as we overfilled it. I can guarantee we didn't fill it beyond the max line. They eventually changed it, but it took about 30 minutes+ for their technician to investigate the faulty iron which meant we were just waiting around in the room. In these instances, especially in a '5 star hotel' it should've been a simple 'Thank you for letting us know' and immediately replace the faulty iron without any questions and they can investigate on their own time. It's a great location, and a 5 minute walk from downtown Sliema and the ferry. Unsure if I would stay again. Good coffee is important.

In future if all available is their cheapest room I wouldn't book. The breakfast had a good selection and finished at a decent hour allowing a bit of sleeping in. The coffee tasted cheap however. At the egg station Anthony made some of the best omelettes I've had in years. Only issue we had was that the clothes iron we had in our room was leaking water and not working properly. Housekeeping came to see about it and instead of simply changing it for a working one, seemed to interrogate us and made it seem like our fault the iron wasn't working as we overfilled it. I can guarantee we didn't fill it beyond the max line. They eventually changed it, but it took about 30 minutes+ for their technician to investigate the faulty iron which meant we were just waiting around in the room. In these instances, especially in a '5 star hotel' it should've been a simple 'Thank you for letting us know' and immediately replace the faulty iron without any questions and they can investigate on their own time. It's a great location, and a 5 minute walk from downtown Sliema and the ferry. Unsure if I would stay again. Good coffee is important.

The hotel is located in Sliema. All tours from the boats and buses leave from there. You have access to beach club pool and nice gym for free. Plus, the breakfast buffet is awesome!! Lots of options. There a variety of options for lunch and dinner a few minutes down the street. I highly recommend this hotel. It’s new and modern. The staff was amazing.

The view and location were what sold me on Barcelo. Cant beat a view across the water to fabulous viiew of Valletta. Location to restaurants and the ferry or other rental boats was great Our room was really huge and very modern. Our balcony was also a plus. Worth the extra money to get a room with a view.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Fortina! So convenient to take the ferry and walk around. We did the 1/2 board and dinner and breakfast was amazing. We also had access to the state of the art gym and spa including the ice bath and hammam. Highly recommend!

The room was more spacious than I was expecting and had a touch of luxury about it. I can't fault the buffet breakfast and facilities available. It felt value for money. The staff who worked for the hotel were lovely, so it was a shame that the external staff at the shared facilities (Ina and Manta) were often unfriendly and unhelpful. I also found it bizarre that the hotel didn't deter large groups of local teenagers from hanging around the front of the hotel and even the bar balcony area for several hours.

Schöner Meerblick aber noch besser ab der 3. Etage. Das Frühstück ist viel zu teuer. Das gleiche Englische Frühstück bekommt man 250m weiter für 9€ anstatt 35€.

Der Ausblick aus dem Zimmer mit Meerblick war jeden Cent wert. Kaffe, Tee und Wasser wurden jeden Tag augefrischt. Fitnessstudio und Wellness-Bereich waren sehr gut. Frühstück war gut, aber zu teuer. Es gibt bessere Alternativen in fussläufiger Entfernung.

Lovely helpful staff. The breakfast was possibly the best we have had with a huge choice. Parking was easy and the spaces accessible. The situation was good as it was on the seafront but at the end so far enough away to be quiet. We would difinately recommend it.

Ett bra hotell med fina rum och sköna sängar. Trevlig personal. Riklig frukost där det finns något som passar alla. Helt ok pool-område där det även finns möjlighet att bada i havet. Hotellet ligger perfekt med närhet till bussar, båtar och färjan över till Valetta. Gott om restauranger längs hela Sliema. Rekommenderar varmt hotellet.

The hotel itself was very clean and the Gym is incredible, a fully hammer strength equipped gym. First time I’ve been satisfied with a hotel gym and I have travelled most of the world. The main reason for us giving this a low score, is the mafia methods they use for the sunbeds. As a hotel guest, you are to pre-book a time slot one day in advance. Either you book morning 09:00 to 14:00 or afternoon which is 14:00 to 18:00. If you however do nok take morning slots and go down there to secure a bed, you will only be able to get a unfair spot near the door or trash cans / in a corner with no view or sun because the morning people has no intention in leaving at 14:00 and the hotel only checked Once in ten days.. and not to mention that the hotel is already down prioritized as the sunbeds is owned by the beach club “manta” which means they take all the good spots for their own paying customers and the hotel guests are fighting for the leftovers.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Malta. The hotel is modern, clean, and offers beautiful views. It was also nice to have the option of free sunbeds by the pool. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone we met was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. One thing worth mentioning is that the pool sunbeds are operated by a separate company, not the hotel itself. When we paid, a service charge had been added to the bill automatically without it being mentioned. If you don’t wish to pay it, make sure to ask for it to be removed before paying. Overall, we had a great experience and would happily stay here again.
