Hotel South Beach

Our room was only a few steps from the beach. The pools was cooling and relaxing. The outside bar/restaurant was convenient and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The front staff was very helpful in giving recommendations for excursions. There was secure parking for our rental car. We enjoyed our stay and would gladly stay there again.

Had a good time here... the staff was exceptional. Pool was nice and warm but not too warm. Bar and food was enough to not have to leave. It also has its own beach and surfboards to rent, if you surf.

Love the property! Felt like you were in the rain forest! Large clean pool! Easy acess to beach with great opertunities to surf. Enjoyable walk to town and amazing sunsets!

This property is not the place to go if you want to relax. Music is playing from 10am to 10pm. Very few beach chairs available. Grounds and walkways are dirty. No blanket on the bed, only 1 sheet.

South Beach Hotel is right on the beach. There’s a bar between the pool and beach and the restaurant is poolside. All the staff were wonderful

Pool area was in good condition. No beach chairs on the beach. All chairs were in the shade. They did have surfboard rentals available. Overall, location was OK nothing to brag home about.

The place is a hiding Gem. Please do not let the entrance turn you off. Is totally different as you cross the small bridge. Beautiful pool, bar restaurant by the pool and walking to the beautiful beach

This property has a beautiful location right on the beach!! the pool is perfect. We loved our stay very much, we recommend rooms 14, 15...those in the back facing the pool that is right next to the bar, which is on the other side of the beach. You can't beat it!

I really enjoyed the location of Hotel South Beach as the beach itself was less rocky then going south or north. There is a surfing school right on the beach front and the staff at the school was so amazing. The staff at the hotel were extremely kind, fun and always pleasant. The rooms are basic, but that is all I needed in this wonderful environment. It is walking distance to the down town, El Miro hike and the famous Jaco sign...I even extended my holiday!! Thank you to Hotel South Beach staff for making my trip so memorable!

Stayed here Fri-Mon in December and it was overall good . Check in was easy and the staff was welcoming. There is parking available on site that is guarded . The room we stayed in was the first room in the garden view area. The room has AC , TV, fridge and 2 full size beds. The room was outdated , a light fixture by the door had a broken cover so it was a bit blinding ,but we did not spend much time in the room .The bathroom could’ve been cleaner with little effort but it could be due to it having only a screen and no window. Make sure to BRING your WASH RAGS & hairdryer. I borrowed a hair dryer from the front desk but had to return .They provide beach towels , ice and complimentary break fast. All the plants on the hotel site were beautiful and taken care of . The Food was delicious ! Pool was nice , not deep with a cute waterfall. The beach bar was convenient and great ! The hotel being on the beach front was everything! They have security guards in the entrance and beach entrance which made me feel safe. 15 minute walk to Jaco Strip . There are activities such as horse back riding next door and surf lessons on site available. There are a lot of rocks on the beach which hurt to walk on so bring water shoes . Beautiful view of sunset while sitting on the lawn chairs. We had a Red Iguana visit us in front of our rooms tree 😁. Cute hotel pets were on site . Thank you for the Great stay !

Personnel was efficient, but a few items need to be addressed. Shower had a very slow drain. I ended up having 2” of standing water. Bathroom sink didn’t have much water coming out of spickit I saw 2 spiders in my room. TV didn’t have any stations that was speaking English. I tried to watch Netflix and Utube. Wouldn’t work.

Our stay was great! Rooms and hotel overall are very clean. The staff is so friendly and always willing to make your stay the best. The food is incredible!! Important to mention that in the creek between the parking lot and rooms, there lives an 8-10 feet crocodile, the hotel staff stated that it lives there and that they have never had any problems, there is no way it can get to the actual hotel, but it is important to mention so you are not shocked in case you see it.

It was disgusting — we had to leave. The towels were stained, the bathrooms were dirty, and one of the rooms was full of dust. I couldn’t stay there with my one-year-old baby given how filthy everything was. We had to book another Airbnb and leave immediately. They should have refunded us. I absolutely do not recommend this place.

Great hotel, great location, very friendly people. Prices were very reasonable, including the drinks at the bar. Rooms are very clean.

There was roaches and the rooms smelled really bad. Couldn’t sleep because I just felt dirty sleeping in those beds. My parents found trash under their beds and empty beer bottles. Terrible stay.

This place is absolutely terrible. As we entered the room, before we even had a chance to look around, we were hit with a pungent musty/moldy odor coming from the walls. The rooms were filthy, as if they aren't maintained or cleaned at all. There were puddles of water in the bathroom and living room, there was a nasty brownish gel coating the dresser drawers, the door handles/locks were broken, there was a big gap underneath the door which would allow all kinds of insects to enter the room at night. The room's balcony fence was placed with hardly any support, it wasn't hooked properly and there was a note warning not to lean on it, but if anyone accidentally put any weight on it they could fall very easily and get injured. Their restaurant kitchen was disgusting from what we could see through the window, similar to the rooms, it looked like they don't regularly clean it, if they ever clean it at all. I did not want to risk eating there at all with my kids. On top of our health and safety concerns, the guy at the front desk, Josh, kept changing his story. When we arrived, he'd told us they were fully booked and wouldn't be able to give us a refund for our last night, so that we could drive back a day early to San Jose to catch our 11AM flight the next day. After seeing our mess of a room, we went back to talk to him about our health and safety concerns, and after some back and forth he tried offering us different rooms, after originally telling us they were booked up.

Unsafe, Dirty, and Nothing Like the Photos We booked this hotel for 4 nights and left after the second night due to unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The property is not at all as pictured on Expedia. Upon arrival, we saw cockroaches on the walls, mold in the bathrooms, outdated and musty rooms, no blankets, and a malfunctioning air conditioner. The pool was filthy. This is not a place anyone—especially families with kids—should be staying. We spent days contacting Expedia and the hotel, only to be told by the hotel that it was up to Expedia and by Expedia that it was up to the hotel. In the end, the hotel’s management denied the refund request, despite the manager, Lenardo, originally saying they would work with Expedia. We had to pay out of pocket to check into another hotel. Avoid this property at all costs.

The property looked beautiful, but had a horrible musty odor in the rooms. If you have allergies, I would not stay here.

The property was right on the beach, which was amazing. We got a pool view room upgrade which we loved. The lunch we had at the hotel bar was also very good. The staff was very kind. The only downside is that there was a lot of water in the room, breaking through the wall from the air-conditioning. But being on the beach and in the summer period, we were not that bothered by it. All in all a great stay!

It's a great place to stay. At the south end of town. Grounds are lovely, rooms are spacious. Bathroom small. Very clean. Beds are comfortable. The staff is outstanding.

The hotel is old. Our first room the air conditioning didn’t work. They moved us to third floor and the room was nicer and cleaner. But the hotel feels like a nice cabina at the price of a nice hotel.

Our stay was good. Pros: beach front, good food, good air conditioning, seems secure Cons: could use a little maintenance, food is a little over priced, shower with inconsistent water temperature, some workers were not very kind

Loved the location! Beach is awesome. This is a nice quiet place to stay. By 9pm it’s very quiet and chill. The rooms are clean however the beds and pillows aren’t the best but honestly the location and price made up for it. Our room was clean and the perfect size we were right next to the restaurant kitchen and it did get noisy there starting at 5am so I recommend a room further away but really this property is a gem!

Pretty sad that there was a sign on the railing on our balcony, warning us to not lean on it…

This hotel is right on the beach and has a great view from the bar. We liked that there were beach chairs and a nice big pool. The issue was the partying. The walls are paper thin and we had a huge party going on in the room next door: loud music and singing, dogs barking, you name it! Didn't sleep a wink!

Two ladies that work in the front desk are very rude. This is not our first time staying in this hotel. We have been here a couple more times but this time will be the last one. Wrong accusation of smoking in the room and as soon as she knocks on the door, we opened she was asking for $100 fine. And this new management this place is not worth to stay a night so I highly recommended you guys to stay away from this place. They some bas rules we were overcharged for an extra guest the manager is very rude Stay away from this place.

Room was spacious and fairly clean with strong AC and amazing water pressure. The pool was really nice, and we regularly saw beautiful parrots fly overhead while we swam. Staff was lovely once you get past the check-in where they were pretty aggressive about selling tours. Restaurant and bar were great, and the breakfast was perfect for an active day. Unfortunately, their policy is to charge $20/hour for late check out, but when the electricity and water went out 3 hours before our check out leaving us without a shower that day, they offered no compensation or extra time to clean ourselves. Really, the only flaw of this place was the reception staff. Otherwise, lovely place!

This is a gem in South Beach, the best beach in Jaco. I really enjoyed the resort-like atmosphere. Staff is friendly, attentive and professional. This was better than my expectations but I love Pura Vida already.

I have stayed in this hotel at least 10 times in the last few years and there’s one guy that works at the front desk named Joshua. Over the years he’s been sort of cold towards me and kind of rude, but this is probably the last time I’m gonna be staying here because he has really shown that he should not be working the front desk. He is very rude, not helpful with zero customer service skills. Just like today I asked the ladies not to clean my room, but to please leave coffee in the room for me to have coffee the next morning. He tells me that they don’t put coffee in the room every day that they only put it there the first day that you’re there as a welcome, which is not true. They’ve always put coffee in my room every single day when they clean my room. He just does not want to give me the coffee. It’s ridiculous. He acts like it’s gold. And every time you walk into the office, he acts if you’re bothering him. I know they changed management, but he is still there. Everyone at the hotel is fantastic at the bar and restaurant and the cleaning staff, but he is the bad apple. And it’s sad because he is at the front desk in the first person you see when you check into the hotel.

I highly recommend the South Beach hotel. From their location on the beach to their comfortable accommodations --it beats the competition for the price. In particular, what sets this hotel apart is their warm welcoming receptionist, Deykell, who is not only a terrific receptionist, but also can serve as a concierge-speaking both Spanish and English fluently. This is definitely a great place to stay if you are English speaking only.

I enjoyed my stay overall, mainly because of the amazing location—being right by the beach was definitely a highlight! The bar staff and servers were super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. However, the front desk service wasn’t as warm or helpful, which was a bit disappointing. The accommodations could also use some updates—the room felt a bit outdated, and the towels weren’t the best quality. That said, the beach access and the vibe at the bar made up for some of the downsides. With a few improvements, this place could be a real gem!

I was not okay with being locked out without someone opening the gates 2 night of the 3 that we were there. The girl at the front was not pleasant but all of the other staff was super kind. There were no blankets, just 1 sheet to sleep with. A lizard was in our room. No elevators or help to get our bags up to our room. The bar closed before 9pm. I usually leave good reviews but I can’t for this place. If I had not paid up front, I would have stayed somewhere else.

We arrived late at night, after check-in but were greeted immediately, very grateful we didn't have to sleep in our car. We only booked for 1 night but were pleasantly surprised how nice the property & beachfront were.

The location was great. On the quieter end of the beach which was nice. If the hotel put a little money into the place it would go a long way

If you are looking for just your standard budget friendly place, this place works. Staff was great, food was decent, rooms are basic, beach is nice and pool was good. Just enough outside of town to relax, but not close enough to walk into town.

Complimentary Breakfast is amazing!!! Older style hotel in terms of designing, but being right on the beach and having a balcony makes up for it. Centrally located so you can walk to downtown and explore the heart of Jaco. Also, we found that it was very helpful to stay at a hotel where most excursion were aware of the location. All of the excursions we booked offered complimentary pick up and drop off with bookings because it is a known area and hotel. Would 100% stay here again.

Excellent location on south side of Jaco. Very quiet and peaceful. Beach is amazing! Staff is very good. They are friendly and helpful. Our garden view room was spacious. Pool was a good size so never felt crowded. Walking distance to a few local restaurants. Food at hotel restaurant was very good and reasonably priced.

We stayed here in 2020 and the condition of the hotel is fetting run down. I love the pool, temperature just perfect. The breakfast, tho included, was very poor quality and stone cold. I would rather pay for my breakfast and get something good. The two servers were friendly

Great pool. Friendly staff. Bar has a great location but no wine selections. Not cheap. Need cash to tip, there is no option to add a tip.

Great spot on the beach in Jaco. Good food, good staff, rooms are nice. Getting towels to shower daily is a pain in the ass. Free breakfast is average.

A bit outdated hotel right on a beach. Every member of the staff is very helpful, nice and friendly. Easy 15 minutes of walking distance to Jaco. Beach is beautiful but ideal for surfers not so much to swim. Wildlife is around. Great location. Planning to comeback. P.S. I would only suggest to work on breakfast menu ( same two options all the time) and menu in general.

Property is by the beach, well maintained. Breakfast was a fixed menu only two choices - typical costa rica or pancake with fruit. The room was good, but the toileteries offered were not adequate for a beach hotel ( only soap and shampoo, no conditioner). The beach was beautiful!

I wish I remembered the bartenders names he was hilarious and very personable. The breakfast is great, the beach and pool are really nice too
