We really loved staying at the Barnes. It is conveniently located in a safe part of town. It is also near the subway which makes it easy to visit other parts of the city and to get to the airport.

My husband and I had high hopes for this place and ended up being disappointed with how it turned out at the beginning of our trip. The first room we received had an odor to it and was dusty. When we went into the bathroom, there was a broken glass tile which we easily could’ve sliced our foot on. When we turned the shower on, there was no hot water. We called down to the front desk and explained that we needed a new room. Our next room still had an order, but wasn’t as bad as the first one. The heat did not work in the room and my husband and I were freezing the entire night. The next morning we called down to the front desk and told them our room had no heat. He sent up maintenance, who concluded that the thermostat did not work. At this point, we were very frustrated and complained to the front desk. They were very understanding of the situation and upgraded our room. Our third room was great. Very nice and spacious with a great looking bathroom. We used the filtered water system and it appears that the filter has not been changed in over a year. If you stay here, I would not trust the water filters and ice machines. Overall, our experience did improve after we received an upgraded room. There was no odor in that room. Location was a 2 minute walk to Union Square and the train station. Was easy to access and travel from the hotel. If your expectations are high, do not stay here. You will be getting a 2-star hotel at best, definitely not a 4-star hotel.
