Villa del Mar Beach Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta

This is basically a hotel with option for added food and beverage package. There are four restaurants, but only two are open a night for dining. This switches off daily. No in room beverages stocked. Had to sign a receipt for every single food, drink item we ordered (we did good/beverage package). Zero nightly entertainment. Probably the biggest disappointment was the pool situation. There were two pools. One giant, very kid friendly pool with slide and waterfall and one small, not kid friendly, deep pool. Unfortunately, there is no designation between the two pools as adult only or family friendly. Although this is a family friendly resort, the majority of guests were couples or “girls trips”. It made both pools unusable to adults looking to relax in or near either pool. Best point was the coffee/ice cream shop. It was wonderful to get a custom coffee each morning!

All inclusive, but some facilities were under construction

Upon arrival was upgraded to a suite, right out our balcony was access to pools restaurants, very short walk to the pool or beach , older property but very clean and well set up. Had a. Couples massage at a reasonable price and very great quality.

The staff and service were exceptional. The property was really nice. Good restaurants. I would say some upgrades are needed. The air conditioner in our room was very old and didn’t really work. There weren’t enough pool chairs, so they overcrowd the beach. Since you’re on the beach, the beach vendors can get to you the whole day and are relentless!! You are bothered ALL DAY LONG. Pool chairs are all taken by 7:30 AM because people put towels on them. Lots of “owners” who feel entitled. But the staff were very nice and servers went above and beyond.

We were first time here and had a beautiful vacation here. Staff very friendly and helpful. A very nice place, clean, tasty food, good pools, warm water. Really liked it; the sea is great and warm. We will definitely come back again.

All inclusive was worth it! Kids really enjoyed hanging out in the pool. Beach access is very convenient.

Staff here at the resort were amazing and accommodating. We felt very welcome and comfortable. I did enjoy the fitness center - I felt that it had more equipment than most. I want to note that did the all-inclusive package and did eat at all the restaurants, including the breakfast buffet, poolside a la carte, and room service. The food was average and sometimes inconsistent between the days. El Patron and La Trattoria were probably the best of them. We also did visit the spa (4 of us). We all agreed that the experience was below average. We all did full-body massages, but left feeling less than satisfied. Would not recommend the spa.

Great location to Uber into Malecon. Food was nice but we did try exploring outside for tacos. Alcoholic drinks were fabulous. Staff was nice and attentive. Pools were great. Beach access was nice to enjoy the views and we managed to see whales breaching the water. 10/10 would rebook with this hotel.

Excellent staff and amenities, super clean. Shame that it will be torn down next year (we were told that) having one or two more restaurants would be nice, but never went hungry food was spot on, just don’t eat that much but the breakfast was excellent. Gym is great as well, which was my thing.

The location of the resort is very good. There's shopping walking distance. The Malecon is very close. The beach was a bit dirty but its expected being that the resort is fairly close to the river and when it rains it all washes out to the ocean which leaves the beach water very muddy and dirty looking. I wouldn't consider swimming in that water anyway as there is a chance of crocodiles being in the same water. This is something that I knew before booking so it wasn't a deal breaker for me. All in all this was a very pleasant vacation and I look forward to coming back when the resort is fully renovated.

Not clean

We had a great time at Villa del Palmar as a family of four. The hotel is spotlessly clean, all the staff are hardworking and friendly. We had a plumbing issue in our room and they immediately changed our room. Food was good and there’s a variety. Hotel is located close to downtown and the airport. There are couple malls around it that you can go by walking. Generally it is a quite hotel which we enjoyed. And of course they try to sell you their membership quite aggressively. But you can easily say no. Apparently they will replace this property soon but to be honest I like its old time charm. We also enjoyed the beach (we couldn’t swim due to tide), magical sunsets and diverse wildlife around us. Thank you to Jesus, Michel, Martin and all the other staff.( Special mention to Japanese Restaurant, Crepe-Cafe and housekeeping).

I wouldn’t say it was dirty, but it was certainly not clean. Hallways and staircases were not cleaned the entire week we were there. Also, we were not given a welcome package until 2 days in. Very sub-standard. And we have been to Mexico several times.

Wonderful staff, cleanliness, great people like Paulina, Eli, David, Esmeralda, Alejandro, Jose, room attendant Norma, and many others Thanks to everybody who made this vacation for us unforgettable!

Do not recommend this hotel. Limited dinning options for all Inclusive. Paid too much for what got. Dirty rooms Lock broken on sliding door to patio area. That felt unsafe. Pressure you too much to tours to become a member

Too much variability in service depending on who was working and a fair bit of variability in food quality. Not sure how you run out of towels for the pool or plates for the buffet. Could have a few more non-Mexican food options at the buffets. Area not properly cleaned overnight - I expect some garbage around during the day because people are nasty but overnight it should be cleaned up.

The grounds were well manicured, the property was well maintained and very clean. You could see the team went above and beyond, even taking the beach and keeping it clean

Wonderful place to stay. Perfect for the family. Staff was attentive and place was clean

The activities were fun and catered to all ages. I don’t recommend staying in building 3 in a room close to the 8 storey rotunda as it is very noisy and sound echos. We were disappointed that our relatives room was in another building even when we were told they were close to us. Don’t prebook a taxi from the airport through the hotel as it is 3 times more than just catching a taxi at the airport.

Everything was good about this resort except no hot water sometimes

The rooms needed to be updated. The bed and the air conditioning in the room were comfortable. The staff were all very friendly. There was not much entertainment, we would have enjoyed more live dancing music. The entertainment they did have wqa plesant but ended too early.

The food wasnt very good, not all the restuarants were open during our trip . They seemed to be short staffed, Our room had issues ac not working, doors not unlocking.

The hotel was awesome. We were a family of 6- the room stayed cool the entire time. We had a washer and dryer which was such a huge benefit and sets the tone for our future visits. The staff was incredibly nice and the resort was good. The food was also good. We have stayed at other resorts and this resorts food was better. The hotel itself is outdoor so all restaurants were outdoor so for days it was super hot, we still had to sit outside. That is the only complaint. Aside from that, we would def visit again and stay here.

We loved the beach and the staff were lovely. We would stay again in a heartbeat! Some of the things we didn't like: room advertised didn't look anything like the room we got, I called the front desk a month before our arrival. I asked to have 2 cribs in our room they said they put a note on my file and to remind the front desk when we checked in. I reminded the front desk they said no problem. We never saw a crib, check-in is long because they talk to you about checking out their other resort, our room was on a second floor with no elevator. We have a 1 year old and 2 year old. Hauling the stroller up the stairs was not fun, we were excited for the sushi restaurant however it took 2 hours from the time we ordered to get our food. Other tables that came after us got their food before us. Our two toddlers were going crazy being hungry. Would not recommend that restaurant. The Seafood restaurant by the beach was our favorite and the food was delicious. Surprisingly the Sports bar restaurant and Italian was good too! The store on site was great. It had everything you could need. The only thing is that it was expensive. We did all-inclusive and it was amazing especially having our kids with us it made our trip so much more relaxing not worrying about getting food and cooking. We loved that room service was included too! Overall, it's an amazing place and so many good memories made.

Service was under par

Very dated and staff is very slow and rude at the front desk and they are all about selling the timeshare. Food is terrible and service is extremely slow. All options are bad. Nothing tastes good. Rooms are dated and we had to change rooms because AC leaks and my mom fell with the puddle of water inside her bedroom. No apologies from them over that. We had to get out of a restaurant because we waited over an hour for the order and got frustrated. They shut some resturants certain days of the week and choices are limited to eat. Not Worth your time or money.

The staff were not really pleasant. Some were actually rude. The hotel is in need of a remodel but I knew that going there. Just disappointed that the front desk staff and some restaurants staff were acting like they were doing someone a favor.

The staffs are very nice and accommodating. They are very friendly too. We met fellow guests who are also very nice and friendly. We gained new friends in this wonderful trip! Kudos to all the staffs. They are all well trained!

Check in took 3 hours. The original room I was given was behind the registration desk facing the taxi stand. Only after numerous complaints was I changed into a better room with a balcony.

The staff and service were fantastic. They even arranged a special birthday dinner for a guest we were traveling with. The resort was clean and the dining options and food were all amazing! The location was close to everything. My only warning, becarful of the staff at the hotel trying to get you in on the time share deal, They are very sneaky about it.

All inclusive was worth it! Great service but ehen its busy, the room service takes a while. Food was great. Area was safe and the Isla shopping was walking distance. Hotel has an exchange money office which is better than the airpot. The aiport is a rip off. Awesome vacation stay.

Our stay at Villa del Palmar was very comfortable. Staff was very attentive. We were about 15-20 minutes away from El Malecon, taxi's always available and ready when you get to the front of the hotel. A shopping mall about 5 minute walk from the hotel. Would definitely come back, especially when they reopen after remodel.

I would like to visit and stay here again. The VIP upgrade is a plus. Great staffs, very safe, and it's located in a very convenient spot. Easy to get taxi everywhere.

The food was sub par! Very little flavor. Not a lot of options. Best was the sushi - though the service was slow. The crepe bar was great with specialty coffees and treats. Loved it. I have been to this hotel in the past with out the all inclusive. Not sure if I would ever pay again for all inclusive at this resort. The drinks were super watered down. Staff were friendly. Love the walkable location. Easy access to bus to down town. Close to port and airport. $6 Uber from hotel to airport. Close to malls and food trucks. Rooms have coffee maker. Toaster. Blender. Stove fridge cooking and eating supplies. Which is what I had the first time. Made my own food and drinks. Soooo I would definitely chose this option next time. Great lil older resort in a great location. Will book again.. not all inclusive!

We were not sent our airport transportation email as promised so took a cab. The room type I booked and paid for was not available. Food was great as was the service! The rooms need some updating and repairs. Good location-$5 or $6 cab ride everywhere

Where to begin…very impressed with the resort. The room itself exceeded my expectations. Traveled with 3 adults and 3 children. Our room consisted of 2 queen beds in one room, one king bed in another, living room, full kitchen, 3 BATHROOMS!! with showers and 2 balconies. Extremely pleased as we traveled as a family. Pictures do not give this resort the credit it deserves. Pros: resort felt very safe, pools were great, beach is okay but water was very dirty, kids club was small, but staff definitely had great activities, room had all the amenities, including a safe, loved that your actual resort wristband is your room key!!! Genius!! The food was so good and drinks were NOT watered down. They have a crepe shop and wow it did not disappoint. Gym is great and well equipped. Room service is 24 hours and does take long, but worth the wait. Cons: If you purchase all-inclusive beware because it was unfortunately a disappointing experience. While the resort checked off most boxes, the biggest of all, was far from met. The pool service took soooo long it was ridiculous. Breakfast and dinner had lines, yes lines, well over an hour and half wait time just to eat. The resort allows different level of guests identified with colored wristbands, but very upset that we paid all inclusive for a family of 6 and was not afforded the food that we paid for through that selection. Again, food was great, when we actually got to eat. Shout out to RICARDO (supervisor) who remained apologetic.

Property and customer services from employees was the best. Only downfall and issue was the food that was being served on a daily basis was a 2 star on my opinion in which they could do better as tourist buy the all inclusive and would like to receive a tasteful dishes.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Resort is clean and well maintained. Food was some of the worst I have experienced in an all inclusive, especially the buffet. I would recommend not doing the all inclusive package and eating off the resort or stocking your refrigerator and cupboards in your room.
