The Palmetto Hotel, Charleston

Fantastic boutique hotel, clean, and friendly staff. Can't beat the location. Complimentary breakfast is pretty nice. Parking is surprisingly easy with valet in the back and you can also park in the public lot right behind hotel but you will not save anything by doing that so recommend valet parking. Rooms are nice and though it feels more like an European size room, they are comfortable with large king sized beds and large modern bathrooms. The showers are huge and even have a fancy shower head that shoots water sideways. Though we did not use it the mini bar is super well stocked with wines, beers, and spirits. The bar downstairs is really good with craft cocktails and friendly bartenders. We visited labor day weekend and on Saturday this place was super happening. We've been coming to Charleston for 35 years, staying in hotels in the historic district and this one is definitely now on the come-back list.

Prime location. Attentive staff. Beautiful property. Loved using the chic mint-colored Palmetto hotel bikes to tour around the French Quarter.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Palmetto. Staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The hotel was stunning and we loved the light breakfast served in the morning. Definitely the best expresso martinis and old fashions in town.

The Palmetto was a perfect spot! The lobby was welcoming and adorable, the location was perfect to explore the city by walking, and we took advantage of the bikes one morning! The rooms were clean and the layout was nice! The renovations were done very well and they maximized space in the rooms and lobby without making anything feel “small”. Everything was just what we needed for a fun and romantic stay in Charleston!

The good: the hotel was nicely decorated and the signature cocktails are amazing. The bad: parking is ridiculously expensive and I swear there is 0 sound proofing in this hotel. Breakfast was nothing extraordinary, but it was good. Overall I did expect more from this hotel being high end and pricey.

This is a really nice boutique hotel. We had a king room with a balcony. It was nice to look out and all that was happening outside. The location is excellent! There is no restaurant inside the hotel, but there are excellent choices just outside the front door, which was very nice. We had lunch at Amen St. and supper at Rudy Royale with the best Short Rib Ragu I have ever tasted! Breakfast was free and served inside the beautiful lobby. They served boiled eggs, grits, bacon bits, yogurt, and fruit. The staff were very nice & accommodating. Valet parking was expensive, but a nice treat. There is street parking with parking meters, and we found a parking garage a block or so over for $18 per day. Overall, a very nice place to stay.

Parking for the hotel was valet only. Smaller the vehicle the better-small SUV max sixze. I had a full size truck, which I was not comfortable with using valet service. Cost of valet was also pricey.Instead, a public parking garage was close enough (next door) to use, and almost 1/3 daily price of valet.

Extra cost to park… parking garage next door got us for a full day exiting at 10 a.m.

This boutique hotel is lovely! It’s in a convenient location in the French Quarter. The rooms are well appointed with a top shelf mini bar. The robe, slippers and turn down service are a nice touch. Those Espresso Martini’s tho! Mmmm

Very pretty, clean , comfortable hotel.

The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The whole hotel was very clean and welcoming. The breakfast was very good.

Amenities. For the price of this boutique style hotel I don't feel like we got the best bang for our buck. We were in room 411 which had a displeasing smell immediately upon entering the room. Also it was right next to 4, yes 4 parked housekeeping staff carts. This was very unappealing, not very romantic, and unfortunately was very loud especially in the morning. We could also hear the staff delightfully caring on, at least they were cheerful and laughing. Also the room had stained carpets and the chair to lounge in was also stained. Our toilet would not flush in this room as well. So every time we used the toilet we had to manually open the lid and pull the float, to actually flush... every time. In the morning we were gretted by silver fish bugs running all over the bathroom floor. We killed three. They're harmless and Charleston is old, but while were here, so were they. The hallway carpet was quite stained as well. Bedding could be thicker, or an extra blanket as it was very thin duvet, and and quite cold outside at a chilly 35°. It could be an adorable place if a few things would be taken care of. The drinks were very good at the bar, and a very nice bartender. There was a nice little continental breakfast spread and a welcome cocktail, that was a nice touch. The Valet was wonderful and kind, and fast. especially in the moment.

This was our first time and it was nice, however we had to have them change the shower curtain as it was all moldy and the tv remote the batteries were dead. Overall was nice and staff very friendly and welcoming.

It’s ok. Could use a deep clean and our room had a view of a roof but it was in a great location. Power went out for about two hours one night we were there; that was interesting. Room small, no luggage cradle, no iron, but they had a steamer. Hair dryer terrible/cheap, they should upgrade those. Shower area was ok, but the shower head not practical, low water pressure. Bed was not good, too soft, caved in in the center. Terrible pillows. For the price I don’t think I’d stay here again and will try another place.

We really enjoyed the hotel and location but were surprised that housekeeping did not clear the shower stall drain and it started to flood. I had to open the cover and clear out a handful of old hair to open the flow of drainage. Not a difficult thing to do, but should be done regularly by housekeeping. Also, housekeeping came at odd times, like after 5 pm. Once we had to vacate the room because we returned at 4 pm and the room was not clean.

After talking to the GM, I considered not posting a public review. However, I feel that it’s important to share experiences to help others make a eise decision when spending over $400 a night for a luxury experience. First, when I called the hotel the day of check in, I got a voicemail 3 times. I left a voicemail. I got no call back. When we arrived at the hotel, the lady working the front desk was efficient but she was not friendly. I don’t need a Disney experience but I do expect a certain level of customer service to be provided for the rate this hotel is priced at. When we entered the room, there was mold on the air vent above the bed & mold on the drywall. The film in the shower was lifting and peeling off. The carpet was dirty and stained which could have easily been steam cleaned. The clock did not work (even after I reset the clock). When I woke up in the morning, the room was 64 degrees and the heat did not work. I’ve emailed with the GM and I was offered a discount for our issues. Also, the complimentary breakfast includes yogurt, pastries, grits/toppings and hard boiled eggs. There was no meat provided. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel as it appears regular maintenance is not a priority. I work in the long term rental business & I’m aware routine maintenance can mean loss of revenue if a room is unavailable to be occupied. I appreciate the GM assured me the above issues were addressed.But I would suggest looking into a variety of other choices in the area.

This is a cute place close to popular dining and sights, however the air conditioning in our room was not quite working which made for an uncomfortable sleep.

There is an issue with the HVAC system. Our room did not have working AC. It was stuffy. The windows weren’t able to be opened to let in fresh air. The front desk gave us a fan. The staff tried to fix our AC to no avail. We insisted on being moved to another room. After some resistance from them, we were moved three hours after check in. The room they moved us to was freezing. The AC control was in Celsius and we couldn’t figure out how to get it to Fahrenheit. We also couldn’t get it to adjust. So we just turned it off. This new room had a window that could open. At check-in we valeted our car. Our car sat unlocked and in traffic at the front of the hotel for a good 20 minutes. Our hearts were in our mouth! The shower was overly complicated. The attachment didn’t work nor did the side shower heads. Way too tricky. Location is great. The manager was nice when she moved us. The staff otherwise was overwhelmed. The valet and the guy who brought the fan had ESL issues. Not sure they had a basic command of the language, though earnest, not sure what was comprehended. Hotel is new and stylish. There are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. Very pricy given the HVAC issues. When we called the front desk several times there was no answer. So we just kept going back down to the lobby. I think the hotel is short-staffed. It was a Saturday night for heaven’s sake!! Answer the phone! To be frank, we didn’t appreciate all the aggravation we were faced with at this hotel

The location is prime. It was pretty much walkable too all popular restaurants and various sights - The Battery, Rainbow Row, City Market, Ft. Sumpter Visitor Center, etc. Hotel was nice with a nice lobby and bar to hang out in. The staff at the Palmetto was attentive and extremely helpful. Also spent a lot of time at Carmella's next door (awesome coffee/dessert bar). The room was nice. The shower could have been cleaner. The biggest 'con' to our stay was the fact that the walls seemed paper thin. I get most hotels you're going to hear people in the hallways (doors closing, etc.). But this is the first time where the conversation, snoring as well as the couple's "activity" next door were all very audible. Not sure if the hotel is in a historic building and that is just the norm.... But Spotify was doing a LOT of overtime playing thunderstorm sounds every night.

The hotel is definitely beautiful and has a really nice aesthetic, but overall it didn’t feel very cozy. Our room was placed right by the utility room, which kind of took away from the vibe. The walls are super thin, we could hear everything. We were on the third floor and got woken up around 3am by super loud guests above us. Both my husband and I had a hard time getting back to sleep. Wish the experience matched the look of the place a bit more.

Great boutique hotel in an awesome location. The TV however was SO old - didn’t even have APP capability so you couldn’t watch a movie, also didn’t have a guide. Not ideal if you wanna relax in bed and watch TV - it was even super grainy. Other than that, stay was great.

AC did not work in the afternoons. Was 77 degrees at night when trying to sleep.

The hotel was nice but the room was one of the worst in which I've ever stayed. It was tiny, no furniture other than the bed and two night stands - no where to sit except the bed. There were a few hangers but no where to put clothes so we had to live out of our suitcases, which we had to place in the middle of the floor. I would not stay here again. We asked for another room but they would not move us. And the phone did not work when we needed to call the front desk to have a hair dryer sent up.

The best shower!! Hotel was decorated to a high standard with an amazing bathroom. Huge power shower with lots of settings. Lots of nice touches in the hotel like iced water, snacks and free breakfast to help yourself. Very close to the market and main shopping/restaurant areas. Would certainly stay here again.

Lovely small boutique hotel in the midst of Charleston. Luxe furnishings and a very nice buffet breakfast. Room was quite petite but pretty and comfortable.

The Palmetto Hotel is the epitome of Southern hospitality. Not only is it a beautiful boutique hotel but the location cannot be beat. The hotel manager Brandy went out of her way to try and make everything as perfect as it could be. We’ll definitely be back!!

It took less than three minutes to check in. Valet was seamless. Room was absolutely gorgeous. All staff was exactly what you expect from a boutique hotel and more. We will definitely stay here again.

First time staying at the Palmetto Hotel. Couldn’t have been more happy with our stay. The receptionist and on duty guest services was exceptional. Noli went above and beyond on making my wife and I feel at home and help start our Wedding Anniversary weekend with such a great first time experience. Thank you so much Noli and thank Palmetto Hotel for making our 10th Wedding Anniversary weekend such a special one.

beautiiful hotel. perfect location. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE customer service and housekeeping. our room was never serviced without us begging . i was told they only first clean the checkouts ....and then i guess they give cup because our room was never serviced. we would come back to the room at around 3:00, 3:30 to relax , get ready for diner, take a shower....just to open the door and see the room hadn't been touched. no bed made up, no new towels, no coffee replenished....nothing. told the front desk, went out so they could clean the room - came back two hours later - still hadn't done it. next day - same thing. we had to cancel our rez for dinner at Husk because we couldn't get a shower in time . not sure how much $$ was spent because we had to keep leaving while we waited. BEYOND frustrating. no one seemed to care at alll once you check in.

We loved our stay at the Palmetto! The location was perfect, decor was so cute and we loved our room. The staff were lovely and the light breakfast in the morning was a nice touch.

This hotel is 3 stars at best. The lobby is pretty and the bar was good and the location is great. However, the rooms were incredibly TINY and getting housekeeping was impossible. We stayed 3 nights and could not get housekeeping services any of the days we were there. We left the room by 8:30am everyday and came back from 1-3 so my toddler could nap. The first day we stopped by the room at 11am and it hadn't been cleaned but the room next door seemed like it was in the process of being cleaned. We came back at 1pm and the next door room door was cracked and it still looked like it was being cleaned (2 hours later!). The second say we left the room all day except from 1-3, I saw the house keeper in the hall and told her my toddler needed to nap but asked if she could come after 3pm... she informed me she leaves and the room woild not be able to be cleaned that day.. we had a trash can of dirty diapers and I had to find a place to dispose of them on my own since we could not get timely housekeeping. The third day we just gave up. I understand there's a labor shortage but getting the room cleaned ONCE over 3 days shouldn't have been an issue. Also the WiFi is very slow, my husband was unable to work and had to go to the public library to use the WiFi. Just things to keep in mind if you're traveling with children or for work.

I liked the property but check your receipt carefully! I was incorrectly billed for valet charges and I didn’t even have a car. I asked for them to be removed and nothing was ever done.

Unique older building, restored to comfortable hotel, along the popular Easy Bay street. Staff was helpful, kind welcoming. Sweet little continental breakfast, made for a good start to the day in the hotel’s open entry way. Comfortable beds, room, bath. Easy walk to many Charleston iconic restaurants, museums, buildings.

Nice and clean. We stayed on a Friday night and Saturday night. Friday night music from bar across from our side of building loud and noisy all night. Saturday night not so bad

Construction around the hotel was unfortunate. Loud and messy. Breakfast included but was not very good. Not hot or satisfying. Everything else was great!

Such a cool old hotel… comfortable room, lovely continental breakfast in the beautiful lobby each morning, and the area is walking distance to everything you want to see in Charleston.

Perfect location! Right next to city market, rainbow row, the pier and fountain, king street and so much more! The hotel is beautifully decorated and fun! Will definitely stay again here on our next trip!

Loved the generous bathroom. Breakfast was very limited and never varied once during our whole stay.

The Palmetto was wonderful! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the facilities were well-kept and adorable, and the location was so close to the market + waterfront park + rainbow row! The free breakfast was also delicious!

The hotel was a lovely boutique style and comfortable. The location was very central. The continental breakfast was ok, but expected a little better considering the cost and the coffee was awful. We ended up going next door for coffee most mornings. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming but not all

Gave it 4 Stars because for the price, the breakfast was nothing special, no coffee in the rooms or all day coffee available, no special things for the guests for the price.
