Pool was lovely and warm. Our room had ripped wallpaper but the staff dealt with our complaint well by upgrading our room with no fuss. Staff very courteous.

The car park is not free, it is owned by a private business not the hotel. Although convenient, it was charged at £12 for the night.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Norfolk Hotel. The room felt quite luxurious, spacious but cosy. Generous tea and coffee and yummy hot chocolate. There was a fridge in the room which was very useful. The bed was comfy but I didn't get on with the feather pillows, they just weren't as supportive as normal ones. The bathroom was spacious and clean and the shower was a good pressure and lovely and hot. The only real negative was the bathroom fan. It seemed to come on randomly for no reason (it came on during the night and disturbed our sleep), and it wouldn't turn off! The walls are also quite thin and sound carried from other rooms and the corridor, but you would expect that in a building of this age. As we only stayed one night we didn't raise these issues with the hotel. We visited the leisure facilities on Sunday morning, we had been made aware on check in that the sauna and steam room were out of order but the pool and jacuzzi were still available. The trip to the changing rooms was cold and the walk into the pool room was cold but the water was deliciously warm and the jacuzzi was very relaxing - very little visibility though due to the steam from the warm water/cold air! All in all we would come back again.

Visiting this hotel was like visiting my grandma's house: comfortably worn and immaculately clean. It was an interesting mix of new and old. New mattresses with antique-looking chandeliers. Beautiful new bathrooms (great showers!) and out-of-fashion carpet. I love it. This eclectic mix is just my style. The front desk service was welcoming and comprehensive. The staff gave great directions, as the rooms were around a restaurant and then another corner. The pool allows 6 people maximum, so it's recommended to book a swim time when you arrive although we had no problem booking for an immediate swim. The hot tub was sandy and the water was quite chlorinated. Our family room was comfortable. There wa a large wardrobe, desk, cabinet with TV, double bed and bunk beds. The mattresses were firm and springy. The linens are crisp, clean, and white. The reason I docked a star is because the housekeeper should be given 5 more minutes per room. The lamps were dusty and when I flipped over the bathroom floor mat after showering, the bottom had dirt smudges.

This hotel is old might be older than Bournemouth itself and full of OAP which is not a problem but that’s who they cater for Bed was good bathroom good scaffolding not so good We stayed ten days later we had two parking charge notices £100’each two cars rang hotel nothing to do with us They have a under ground car park not managed by them which they told me when I rang to complain machine which is clever not to register car in entry then you end up paying the wrong fee and then you get the fine for over staying very clever never stay here again customers be careful rip off and no help when I rang to complain.

This hotel proves that if it's not broke, don't fix it. The facilities look old at first glance, but everything is operational and clean. The bathrooms are stunningly clean and renovated. The pool facilities are exceptional - which also includes a hot tub - and you're provided with towels. The only fault on this hotel is the early check out time of 10am.

Our room was renovated and very nice. The pool area was an plus and enjoyable temperature. However, there were a lot of loud noises at 6am.

The hotel was really nice and the staff were very helpful. We were able to check in early as our room was ready and we were able to leave our bags at the hotel after checking out so we could go round the town. The room was very nice, although the fridge wasn't very cold and one of the mattresses was very soft, a bit like a water bed but I slept ok. Breakfast was amazing! The choices and taste, the services was very good and we weren't rushed to eat our food. We didn't use the pool, but I'm not sure I liked the fish bowl effect where people from outside can see you in the pool. Overall a very good experience.

Check in was slow and poor. We arrived at 1.00 pm knowing check in was 4.00 pm but completed paperwork and told to come back at 3.45 Arrived back at 3.55 and was told not sure if room was ready and to wait for 5 mins. Some 20 mins later we had not been approached so went back to the desk to be given the door card with no mention of anything. The rooms are dim tired and dated. They appear clean if you don’t look to hard but I am a facilities manager so I look hard. Bathroom floor must have not seen a mop or a wash for a while and room generally dusty. Hotels. Com had this rated as 4 star. I would suggest 3 star then expectations would be lower

The public areas were nice and it couldn't be more central. Staff were very polite. Sadly, I was disappointed by the maintenance and cleanliness of our bedroom. Examples - a little covered balcony attached to the room (unexpected - we didn't pay extra for this) had lots of cobwebs, dead insects and a torn/stained sofa. There were grubby stains and marks all over e.g. tea drips on the sides of furniture, stains on carpet, throw cushions and the bed runner, wallpaper scratched off in places and peeling. Bathroom floor had the grubby tidemarks in corners. I'm sure this is a shortage of staff issue, but the room was very expensive for the quality. It was also noisy overnight, but that's expected for the location.

Exceptionally clean. Room with everything you need. Beds very comfortable. Staff are amazing! So helpful, professional and friendly. Loved the swimming pool. Enjoyed the comfortable chairs and tea and gorgeous cake in the afternoon. Great barman with a fantastic sense of humour. Loved the Victorian architecture. Right next to everything eg shops, beautiful park, restaurants, the pier. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.

When we arrived the hotel looks quite grand from outside. It’s a bit jaded in places, needs upgrading and refurbishing really. Our room was a superior room but was dirty, hairs all over the floor and carpet, food crumbs etc which was very of putting. Told staff and they would have moved us to another room but we had a tight schedule and was going out. On our return there was no staff around so we stayed in the room we had been given. Breakfast was adequate. Would not book again as there are far better hotels local for the same money. Room wasn’t cheap but the feel was. No gym, tiny swimming pool. Sorry wanted this to be a hidden gem but overall disappointed

4* hotel? Who did they pay to get this rating? I’m sure you could get cleaner hostels at this rate. Absolutely grimes and filthy, the room literally looks like it was last cleaned in the 90s, 4 inch dust and crime stacked up on the toilet role holders, window sills packed with dirt and grime and a bathtub that has piss stains full of grime and dead insects. Charging over £100 a night for this? I would rather sleep on the floor outside. Animals would get an allergic reactions staying here. DISGUSTING PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

The accomodation is very old. There was not a penny spent on maintenance / cleaning or renewal. The shower was a bit filthy. The room smelled of dust, old carpet. Very noisy. You can hear everything from the room next to you. All in all not worth the money Staff was friendly though.

Very helpful staff, excellent customer communication. Room good size, lots of cupboard space, excellent cleanliness. Very near shops and restaurants. Not enough staff on duty at breakfast, dining area not big enough for the amount of guests. Breakfast overpriced. Nice evening entertainment.

Room 203 which is by a busy road as well as a karaoke bar. No AC in room so had to keep window open in August which meant that every noise was heard. Being woken up in the night was regular. Also, we placed the please make my room up on our door in the morning and came back at 1830 and our room had not been made up. General facilities were good but service as well as room being located by a busy road with no AC was poor.

3 hour trip from Eastbourne, very pleased with the cleanliness and look of the hotel. Staff very friendly. Car park easy to find. However the bed was very uncomfortable and we could feel the springs so had to lay on top of the duvet. Bed was also very clearly two singles pushed together as the sheet did not fit properly.

It’s an amazing stay and the location is awesome . The room was quite spacious , the staffs were courteous. Will definitely recommends someone for their staycations.

Lovely stay for an overnight visit. Very close to the high street. Is a little dated but this time of year it fit the season perfectly giving it a cosy winter feel. Room was spacious, had everything you’d need for a few days stay. Nice and quiet too

Good, friendly staff, good bar and restaurant area. The room was small, looked tired and the bed width was under 4ft. Not good for 2 people of average build

The Norfolk Royale is a hotel that was once one of Bournemouth's most prestigious hotels but it has now lost it's sparkle and has faded into just another hotel. Upon checking in, I was advised the breakfast would be busy as they had a number of coach parties booked in. Almost all the guests were OAPs enjoying a trip to the coast. My room was a great size but very tired and in need of redecorating and updating. It was extremely noisy from the traffic until quite late. Strangely, the hotel didn't appear to have a restaurant so I was obliged to find dinner elsewhere. Breakfast was well managed by pleasant staff. My view is that the Norfolk Royale is not a hotel I would return to.

Check in was slow and poor. We arrived at 1.00 pm knowing check in was 4.00 pm but completed paperwork and told to come back at 3.45 Arrived back at 3.55 and was told not sure if room was ready and to wait for 5 mins. Some 20 mins later we had not been approached so went back to the desk to be given the door card with no mention of anything. The rooms are dim tired and dated. They appear clean if you don’t look to hard but I am a facilities manager so I look hard. Bathroom floor must have not seen a mop or a wash for a while and room generally dusty. Hotels. Com had this rated as 4 star. I would suggest 3 star then expectations would be lower

Pool was lovely and warm. Our room had ripped wallpaper but the staff dealt with our complaint well by upgrading our room with no fuss. Staff very courteous.

Miguel, the front desk clerk when we checked out Saturday morning was racist, condescending and confrontational . Treated us very poorly when he realized we were from Brazil. Aside from that the lady at check in was very friendly and accommodating to allow us to check in a couple of hours earlier. The two twins bed are the worse beds I have ever experienced in any hotel ever. Cheap super soft spring mattress that will hurt your ribs and will make for a very bad night of sleep if you are able to sleep at all. The hotel is very dated and extremely overpriced for that it offers. We will never recommend it to anyone and will never be back, better stick with good’ol American hotels where the basic standards are a given!

Exceptionally clean. Room with everything you need. Beds very comfortable. Staff are amazing! So helpful, professional and friendly. Loved the swimming pool. Enjoyed the comfortable chairs and tea and gorgeous cake in the afternoon. Great barman with a fantastic sense of humour. Loved the Victorian architecture. Right next to everything eg shops, beautiful park, restaurants, the pier. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.

Disappointing not to get access cards upon arrival as they had run out! Once sorted the stay was very good. Cooked breakfast was good with the exception of the sausage, just don't eat it!

Property needs renovation how ever well maintained. Satisfactory loved the location and room. The best of all is staff everyone were good .the Gardner, receptionist both the girl and the boy on the day of arrival excellent service. A credit goes to a young lad came over to the room and fix the Fan. As well as a great smile and service.

Hotel and room where lovely . The bar opened at 4.30 and closed at 11 which meant it was closed on arrival and closed after returning from concert . Also when we asked for extra teas and coffees for room on return. The reception was un manned . When a member of staff turned up he basic did not care . I said i was surprised by his lack of service . To which he said ' not his problem ' .terrible advert for hotel and poor attitude to a paying customer. To top it all ,twice staff enter room with pass key without knocking first . Shame as hotel is lovely but would never stay there again.

Great weekend away with family, hotel was lovely, desk staff were especially helpful at check in, and at other times aswell. My daughter uses a wheelchair, and although we put in the notes when booking through Hotels.com that we needed an accessible room, when we arrived she hadn't been allocated one, i think they were all booked out, but they were very caring and gave us a really big room which I think might even have been a suite, so that made it easier for her to get around the room. The pool was really lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

My room was stylish, spacious and very comfortable and was “tidied” every day by housekeeping staff. Staff on reception were polite and helpful. I did not use the restaurant facilities or the swimming pool/ jacuzzi so cannot comment on them. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, I enjoyed my stay and the location of it is very good for sightseeing around Bournemouth.

The staff were very friendly, from reception through to cleaning. we were a family group taking three family rooms and had very young children. The youngest had a couple of accidents and the staff were so helpful and understanding. Big thank you to all The reception area is nice and has a grand feel to it, the rooms are a little bit shabby though. Threadbare arms on the armchairs, torn wallpaper (by the upper bed on a bunk bed so presumably a previous young occupant. The radiator in the room is in a strange position, below the window but covered by floor to ceiling curtains, so the heat goes straight out. However, the room was spacious and the hotel close to the town centre, so if you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head, it would be fine. It looks to have changed hands this year so I suspect there will be some refurbishment going on through '24

We stay here with our two kids. The location is great. The reception lady and other staff were very welcoming. The parking is £16 for a night it is worth it as you don't need to take your car to the beach or to the pier. It is just a 10-minute walk with kids and all other amenities within walking distance. The hotel furniture is a bit old and needs a bit of upgrade. However, it is worth it with the price and the services and car park facilities and swimming g pool and sona. We didn't use the swimming pool but you can see families enjoy swimming there, especially young children.

It’s a beautiful hotel at an amazing location. Loved the room and my favourite part about the stay was the pool and jacuzzi, just fab!! However, the breakfast was terrible- we were hoping for a buffet but they gave us a single plate of vegetarian breakfast- had very less options in food and it was very oily! Stay here however, have breakfast at a local cafe next door as there are many many options outside.

The hotel is a beautiful old building with modern bedrooms. The location of it is excellent. Our room was very spacious. The staff were lovely - approachable, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning here in the future. We did not eat an evening meal in the hotel but the breakfast was lovely.

A traditional hotel close to the town centre. very clean comfortable beds .We went to watch a show at the pavilion came back at 10.30 the bar was shut,luckily we could go into the town centre to finish our evening.

Service was floorless The building was looking old and tired, need a lot of love putting into it. Breakfast was made with cheap ingredients and not worth the money. We didn't enjoy it at all and only eat a few items. The coffee was undrinkable, orange juice watery. The food is obvious the food was cooked before and kept warm as was brought to the table in 5 minutes. So this on top of cheap ingredients and warm food makes this b/fast 1 out of 10

The hotel was really nice and the staff were very helpful. We were able to check in early as our room was ready and we were able to leave our bags at the hotel after checking out so we could go round the town. The room was very nice, although the fridge wasn't very cold and one of the mattresses was very soft, a bit like a water bed but I slept ok. Breakfast was amazing! The choices and taste, the services was very good and we weren't rushed to eat our food. We didn't use the pool, but I'm not sure I liked the fish bowl effect where people from outside can see you in the pool. Overall a very good experience.

This hotel needs renovation asap. Old dated. Dirty mugs. Extremely cold in the room and bathroom! Extremely cold in the place where the swimming pool is located, it should be closed if they are unable to provide correct temperature. My kids were off suck after spending 20 min in the swimming pool. Poor breakfast. The only positive side was Evy (not sure of spelling) - very nice receptionist.
