We stayed in one of the suites which was excellent value for money and very comfortable indeed. The suite was warm all through the stay even in the middle of a cold spell. The bed was large and comfortable. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone with the caveat below NB: The suites are up steep stairs and there is no lift in the suites building so they may not suit those with mobility issues

Booked here cos it's walking distance to our son's dorm who just graduated from Bristol University. Very unique interior with a vintage vibe. Love it. One downside is that no air con.

No AC makes the room really hot during the summer, a fan was provided but made little difference and was really noisy. Walls are paper thin so you hear everything from the hallways. Bed rather uncomfortable and hard, not really hotel standards on pillows either. Shame because the location is good.

Secure covered Parking available in the square for guests at a price. Breakfast excellent, and really comfy bed and nice touches in room (biscuits, fruit etc). Only downside was lift out of order so hauling a large suitcase up 3 flights of stairs not ideal. Lovely warm welcoming staff.

Had to transfer from a room on arrival as the window backed on to a patio area with people outside, then was given a room 2 floors up and unfortunately lift wasn’t working which we was informed about 2 weeks before. The room next to us was being renovated and also the restaurant bar area was closed on 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. Plastic over the stairway. We was given clean towels each day on the made bed but there were dirty glasses and cups left and coffee and tea not restocked. It’s such a shame there were so many things - as we were there for a wedding and some of the nice touches would have been well received if only the basics were ok - we did ask for someone to contact us before reviewing but no one did.

Served a purpose for a one night stay. Wedding meant no use of bar/restaurant available so felt more of a B&B (but without the breakfast as that would have been extra) Parking £16 from 4pm - 1030am. This should be a standout hotel but some basics are missing. Positives are the reception staff (a special thanks to Megan, the assistant manager, who kindly let us swap one of our nights). On the downside, we stayed in one of the Deluxe Suites but It's not made clear on Hotels.com that these are not in the main part of the hotel, they are in fact in a separate, very old building around the corner. Not a big deal but if you've got a lot of luggage be prepared, as our room was up two flights of narrow stairs. The room itself is lovely, high-end fabrics and tasteful decorations, however it was let down by having dirty crockery and surfaces in the room. The welcome note referenced welcome biscuits but they were missing and the complimentary fruit had seen better days. Again, not a big deal but if you've paid the top rate for the best rooms, you expect better. Another issue, which is referenced in other recent reviews, is the lack of access to the hotel bar and restaurant. We wanted to visit both the bar and restaurant on Saturday night, but both were closed for a private event (we also overheard another guest complain the restaurant and bar were out of bounds because of a wedding on the Friday). Both the bar and restaurant were closed for business completely on the Sunday evening. Finally, housekeeping chose 8:45am on Sunday to vacuum the corridor next to our room, it's an old building with paper thin walls and single glazing windows so street noise is an issue.

I was excited as we had booked a "superior double room" the only things that could be considered superior were the bath and the fact they have elemis products in the bathroom along with mini prosecco and brandy. The room was tiny, the smallest room I've ever stayed in. The pillows on the bed were lumpy floppy and yellow. There was a smashed picture on the wall. There was dust on the woodwork at the side of the bed and also on the towel rail. The toilet brush was disgusting and under the basin of the sink needed cleaning. They had a notice in reception that they were having a refurb, so maybe that room hadn't been done yet. Maybe advertising it as superior is a bit of a stretch. If it was advertised as a basic double and the prices reflected I wouldn't have been so disappointed. I don't want this to be a moan I'm just highlighting areas that were lacking in my opinion. The dining area looked beautiful and I appreciated the decorations that they had put up outside and in reception.

Recently stayed check in was good room not so good bath and toilet was dirty on arrival room needed decorating, curtains did not close properly also noisy what was nice was the complimentary items which I enjoyed Also when room was cleaned while I was out I got back to find that all my toiletries that were on the shelf above the sink had all been moved and put in my toilet bag instead of leaving on the shelf

The single room was worn and shabby. The tap and toilet flush were both broken. Bath, and supplied chipped and in need of re grouting. And the whole thing was in desperate need of a refurbishment. Not an enjoyable stay.

Great reception team. Both friendly and helpful. Good choice for breakfast in a lovely dining room overlooking the square. Room was clean and tidy. Good shower if somewhat small bath tub. Good value for money. Quiet location within walking distance of the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

I was booked into Room Number 4 which was billed as a "Superior Lower Deck Double". On entering the room I noticed a small fruit fly, and then another. When I pulled the curtains and put the lights on, I noticed dozens of little flies around the lights. It was a horrible room and not very clean. I complained to receiption and to be fair they moved me to another room pretty quickly, although it wasn't too far away from Number 4. I didn't notice any flies in that room.

There was no room service. It was missing tea/ hot chocolate went to the reception to ask for some and they couldn't give me any. I couldn't get a hot drink from the reception. I have a cancer and needed a relaxing stay and I picked this place for the amenities and felt let down. The attitude wasn't great. Also there were a few ants in the bathroom.

Very nice hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean and tidy and had some nice complimentary touches. Good position in City centre with lots of good bars and eateries within close proximity.

Very disappointed in the hotel and I'm surprised it is categorised as a 4 star! The bedroom needs refurbishing as it has stained textiles, faulty heating, tired bathroom fittings, carpet marks, a blocked extractor fan and ceiling damp (see photos). The friendly receptionist was the only positive and he did his best to fix the heating (which was locked on high), but I ended up having to 'sleep' with the windows fully open to get some cooler air into the room. I stay in Bristol almose every week and wanted to try this hotel, but I will not be going back sorry.

Fantastic 7 night stay while travelling on my own for a course. The food was delicious, the staff were gorgeous and the location was perfect. Small rooms BUT as a solo traveller that made me feel even more at home. Will deffo stay there again if in Bristol

We stayed in the suite of the top floor. The view was lovely! Everything was very well finished and felt very comfortable. Little extras like the Prosecco and Lindt bunnies were very well-received! Loved the Elemis toiletries in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Loved the very deep bath! The shower was also lovely. Some of the sloping roof was a challenge for my boyfriend at 6 foot so just be aware that you may need to duck your head! Overall, a really lovely stay and we would definitely book again.

One night stay. Good sized room with small en-suite. Great choice of items in fridge with fruit, sherry, tea, coffee provided. On arrival the room had an odd smell which we attributed to the drains possibly? We didn’t report it as after a while we got used to it and once the bathroom door was shut, it wasn’t that strong. Great location to explore Bristol but quite noisy as in a popular city centre/student location.

Room was incredibly hot and stuffy even with the window open.

No AC makes the room really hot during the summer, a fan was provided but made little difference and was really noisy. Walls are paper thin so you hear everything from the hallways. Bed rather uncomfortable and hard, not really hotel standards on pillows either. Shame because the location is good.

Stayed in suite 604, on the 3rd floor, we would definitely stay there again as it felt like a home from home. Very spacious lounge area with kitchenette. The room & bathroom perfect size with Elemis products. Loved all the art work at the hotel.

There was no room service. It was missing tea/ hot chocolate went to the reception to ask for some and they couldn't give me any. I couldn't get a hot drink from the reception. I have a cancer and needed a relaxing stay and I picked this place for the amenities and felt let down. The attitude wasn't great. Also there were a few ants in the bathroom.

Secure covered Parking available in the square for guests at a price. Breakfast excellent, and really comfy bed and nice touches in room (biscuits, fruit etc). Only downside was lift out of order so hauling a large suitcase up 3 flights of stairs not ideal. Lovely warm welcoming staff.

Had to transfer from a room on arrival as the window backed on to a patio area with people outside, then was given a room 2 floors up and unfortunately lift wasn’t working which we was informed about 2 weeks before. The room next to us was being renovated and also the restaurant bar area was closed on 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. Plastic over the stairway. We was given clean towels each day on the made bed but there were dirty glasses and cups left and coffee and tea not restocked. It’s such a shame there were so many things - as we were there for a wedding and some of the nice touches would have been well received if only the basics were ok - we did ask for someone to contact us before reviewing but no one did.

This should be a standout hotel but some basics are missing. Positives are the reception staff (a special thanks to Megan, the assistant manager, who kindly let us swap one of our nights). On the downside, we stayed in one of the Deluxe Suites but It's not made clear on Hotels.com that these are not in the main part of the hotel, they are in fact in a separate, very old building around the corner. Not a big deal but if you've got a lot of luggage be prepared, as our room was up two flights of narrow stairs. The room itself is lovely, high-end fabrics and tasteful decorations, however it was let down by having dirty crockery and surfaces in the room. The welcome note referenced welcome biscuits but they were missing and the complimentary fruit had seen better days. Again, not a big deal but if you've paid the top rate for the best rooms, you expect better. Another issue, which is referenced in other recent reviews, is the lack of access to the hotel bar and restaurant. We wanted to visit both the bar and restaurant on Saturday night, but both were closed for a private event (we also overheard another guest complain the restaurant and bar were out of bounds because of a wedding on the Friday). Both the bar and restaurant were closed for business completely on the Sunday evening. Finally, housekeeping chose 8:45am on Sunday to vacuum the corridor next to our room, it's an old building with paper thin walls and single glazing windows so street noise is an issue.

One night stay. Good sized room with small en-suite. Great choice of items in fridge with fruit, sherry, tea, coffee provided. On arrival the room had an odd smell which we attributed to the drains possibly? We didn’t report it as after a while we got used to it and once the bathroom door was shut, it wasn’t that strong. Great location to explore Bristol but quite noisy as in a popular city centre/student location.

Clean and comfortable room. Nice welcome tid bits - fruit and a little sherry. The hot breakfast options were limited but the dish was i got was delicious and cant complain. Lovely, carefuly assembled yoghurt granola pots in glass jars were delicious. The location of the hotel in proximity to centre is fantastic. There are so many great spots to grab some food and coffee within short walking distance. It could get a little noisy (i was on the top floor) - little soundproofing and elevator and other room doors really travels/resonates. And there was a bit of work being done on my floor the morning i checked out also, including sanding of one of their hallway walls, and that noise travelled and was a pain. But overall, I'm happy with my stay and woukd recommend this hotel. I'd also like to give a shout out to all the staff who were exceptionally friendly and welcoming.

First room felt like it wasn’t used much. Toilet flush puller didn’t work well, contant dripping noise outside as a result of rain, tv didn’t work. Was disappointed that restaurant was fully booked and my 20% discount wasnt valid for room service. Changed room.

Served a purpose for a one night stay. Wedding meant no use of bar/restaurant available so felt more of a B&B (but without the breakfast as that would have been extra) Parking £16 from 4pm - 1030am. Had to show them my card transaction to prove I had already paid for parking at check in. Was told it was another £5 to extend for an hour to allow me to grab a coffee. I declined. Excellent stay in a cosy double. The room had everything you needed and I liked the little touches like fresh milk and sherry. Breakfast was excellent, all freshly cooked. All the staff I had contact with were friendly and courteous. Would recommend and I am booked to stay later in the year.

We were in a basement room and it wasn’t the cleanest, in the sense that there was dust entrenched and clinging to surfaces, the curtains and carpet had seen better days and there were spots of mould on the bathroom ceiling. However, the bed linen and towels were clean and fresh and the bed was very comfortable. I have to make a comment about the height of the side of the bath for stepping in and out off for the shower - it was very high and could actually be quite dangerous for someone who’s a little unsteady on their feet or a bit older. A simple handrail on the wall on the side you get out would solve this because it is an accident waiting to happen. The staff were not very helpful with the few questions we asked and half the time looked a bit inexperienced and out of their depth. We looked in on the breakfast but decided against it as it wasn’t that cheap and didn’t look very appealing. The best thing about the hotel is its location for Wills Memorial Hall where Bristol University has its graduations - it’s across the road, less than 5 min walk - so the perfect base. I’d stay at the hotel again for this reason alone. The hotel’s location in general is excellent with lots of shops, restaurants and cafes around about and a bus stop 2 min round the corner to go into Clifton Village.

Lovely hotel on a quiet square. Garage parking available, and a 15-20 minute walk down the hill to the quay with lots of dining options and a fun atmosphere. Thoughtful touches like a mini percolator to make filter coffee. Friendly and welcoming staff.

Hyggelig personale og pent hotell. Ikke alltid de vasket rommet, bare reddet opp sengen og ga nye håndklær. Ligger veldig bra til, med buss i nærheten og greie gådistanser til sentrum og Clifton.
