Cosmopolitan hotel

This hotel has a great location in Downtown Cairo, with easy walking distance of Tahrir Square.The lobby looks really fancy in a vintage way, and the elevator gives off a big vibe of retro glam. All of this doesn't feel like it has been looked after very well though, and could do with a bit of TLC. Staff provide a mixed bag, with some being very engaged and helpful, but others looking bored, and annoyed by requests. On arrival, we were offered an "upgrade" from the junior suite we had booked, although this turned out to be to a smaller, worse room, and thankfully we were able to keep the room we had originally booked. We left early for the airport on the last day, and had requested a breakfast box. Unfortunately on check-out, this hadn't been prepared. The guy on the desk didn't really seem to care, and nothing was offered to compensate for the extra expense we'd incur because of this. The room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast on the first day was plentiful, if not outstanding. Feel like with a couple of small changes and improvements in customer service, this could be even better.

Wonderful old lift. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good and tasty food but limited menu. Helpings generally too big. No alcohol (not a problem but we were not made aware of this when we booked). Room not what I would call 'a luxury double': no chairs and fairly cold especially during the first 2 weeks. Shower flooded bathroom, but spread of water could be contained by judicious placement of towels on the floor. Very noisy at times. Sometimes other guests but also a lot of building work going on right by the hotel. Not the hotel's fault but something to be aware of. Area was a bit dirty (building work) and Cairo is very polluted. Traffic is appalling, constant and incredibly noisy with almost constant use of horns - again not hotel's fault but something to be aware of. No idea what happens to the huge number of plastic water bottles - hopefully recycled. Truly wonderful hot chocolate.

Die Zimmer sind gemütlich, aber alles wackelt und klappert, vor allem im Bad! Das Personal ist leider schnell überfordert, man darf es nicht eilig haben. Es wird jedoch bei allen Problemen effektiv improvisiert, beispielsweise bekamen wir Zimmerupgrades, nachdem in der ersten Nacht unsere vor Monaten reservierten Zimmer nicht verfügbar waren und wir zu viert in einem Zimmer untergebracht wurden. Der Zimmerservice in der 4. Etage von Herrn Saeed Hassan war hervorragend, der Service auf der 2. Etage hingegen fast nicht vorhanden. Zum Frühstück gab es eine große Auswahl an Speisen, hier findet jeder seinen Geschmack. Ein Hotel wie aus alten Filmen, in das wir jederzeit wieder kommen würden.

The breakfast buffet had terrible coffee and flavourless food. It also seems that many people don't know to close the doors on the older elevators, so it would not move to pick us up until a staff member went up and closed the doors

The hotel is an old-fashioned decorated hotel, very nice. The only "minor" is the main elevator, also "old-fashioned". It needs to be closed manually, which some customers seem to forget. Location is also good.

エジプト考古学博物館に近いことからここを選択しました。徒歩で5分程度です。ホテルは大通りから1本入っていますので車のクラクションもそれほど気になりませんでした。少し歩くとお酒を飲ませてくれるレストランバーもあります。注意点として、現地支払いの場合はキャッシュオンリー(US $又はE/P)となりますので事前決済がおすすめです。キャッシュの場合でもすぐ近くにATMがあります。内外装共にヴィンテージ感のある趣のあるホテルです。

Room was clean and attended daily, bathroom renovated. Our room was reasonably quiet, except some dog barking. In Cairo hotels, outside noise during night is something that needs to be paid attention to as there are a lot of complaints from visitors from other hotels in downtown - but this hotel is located somehow a short stretch into a small street that is blocked by the hotel so it is not an issue. Shortly - we found this hotel to be a good choice if you are there to explore Cairo.

Der Fahrstuhl in diesem Hotel vom Beginn des 20 Jahrhunderts ist fantastisch. Mitarbeiterinnen und Service ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Wer einen Ausflug nach Alexandria machen möchte, sollte sich unbedingt durch die Rezeption Said als Fahrer organisieren. Ein Unikat und wirklich toller Typ.

Vieille hotel avec un ascenseur antique et magnifique mais peu efficace. Notre chambre était petite avec une salle de bain minuscule avec une douche ridicule. L'accueil fut chaleureux et efficace. Le petit déjeuner fut le minimum.

Dirty hotel

Das Hotel ist mitten in der Stadt und die Angestellten sind sehr freundlich. Der Kolonialstil hat seinen speziellen Charme - der Lift ist wahrlich abenteuerlich. Ich war zu früh und musste deshalb über 1 Stunde auf das Zimmer warten, was ja in Ordnung ist. Als ich dann aber ins Zimmer konnte hat mich fast der Schlag getroffen. Im Bett hatte es einen ekligen Fleck, Haare und zur Krönung auf dem Toilettenring Urin - richtig übel! Nach der Reklamation war es dann sauber. Das Badezimmer ist etwas besser als in anderen Durchschnittshotels, hat aber definitiv immer noch Luft nach oben. Die Sessel im Esssaal könnten auch sauberer sein. Allgemein würde dem ganzen Hotel ein gründlicher Frühlingsputz gut tun, wie den meisten Hotels in Ägypten. Das Frühstück hat einiges zur Auswahl, allerdings könnte auch hier die Qualität besser sein. Verschiedenste Sachen sind nur auf Bestellung erhältlich, z.B. Rührei. Allerdings macht dich niemand darauf aufmerksam. Das Hotel ist sehr ringhörig, Ohrstöpsel also nicht vergessen, da man sonst vom permanenten Gehupe in Kairo eventuell kein Auge zu macht. Zum Glück liegt das Hotel nicht direkt an der Hauptstrasse, was ganz klar von Vorteil ist. Für zwei Nächte war es o.k. wenn man relativ günstig übernachten möchte. Man darf nicht vergessen wo man ist, in Ägypten ist alles etwas anders.

Junior suite was recently fully refurbished and very clean

This plane is definitely not a 4.5 star. I would never stay here again. Room was dirty, the floors seemed like they were never mopped, we got a non smoking room ( which Apparently was the only one on our floor ) and you could smell the smoke in the room. Breakfast was nasty and the food was cold.

The quality of the hotel rooms is significantly below standard. The buffet breakfast was satisfactory, but not impressive. Additionally, there was a noticeable damp smell emanating from the rooms, while the reception area was heavily filled with smoke. However, it is worth mentioning that the hotel is situated in a pleasant area. Despite the appealing pictures displayed on the website, considering the amount I paid, I would not choose to stay at this hotel again.

Le personnel est très courtois. La chambre etait propre mais de petits travaux d'entretien sont à prévoir.

Do not stay here. Cairo has no midrange accomodation. As a couple who attempted to go midrange this is not it. Pay for a Hilton or similar. The hotel is completely rundown- no hot water, very old and the worst it was very dirty. There were hairs everywhere. It’s like they didn’t own a vacuum. Not to mention the linen at breakfast probably hadn’t been changed in months.

In Cairo hotels, outside noise during night is something that needs to be paid attention to as there are a lot of complaints from visitors from other hotels in downtown - but this hotel is located somehow a short stretch into a small street that is blocked by the hotel so it is not an issue. Building is old and needs renovations. Shower in our room was a disaster

The location is good. The room is quite spacious (booked the junior suit) but the bathroom is very small, the shower sink is not working properly (water drain very slowly). The furniture, carpet (in/out) are very old. The staff are ok (not very friendly). The price is not bad (not a peak season). Overall, 5/10.

Overall it a nice hotel. Looks like a palace inside. Service was friendly and excellent. Two issues were the breakfast could definitely be better and the shower was constantly changing from scorching hot to super cold all within 30 seconds. However, all things considered, for the price and the location, I would recommend a stay here.

I stayed here for a number of days, the night with this Wotif booking and number of days with G Adventures, including booking extra days after, it being their base hotel for Cairo nights of Highlights of Egypt 14 day tour. The hotel is interesting in decor. You've got I'm guessing pith helmet era English, Spanish, French aristocrats portraits on the wall who I'm guessing explored ancient Egypt sites, otherwise odd choice in Egypt. Lift is interesting old era one. Rooms I experienced a few varied, some were better designed, especially the bathroom. But aircon works, showers are decent, beds comfortable. No pool or anything really to do other than sit on chairs in lobby or on floors near lift so just stay in your room as the hotel is a sort of safe sanctuary in this neighborhood. Area outside you get constantly hassled walking around, "where you from?" "Come see my shop," What you want to buy" "spend all your money here" or followed around wherever you go by people expecting money for doing so even though you've told them you want to walk by yourself. One guy even kicked me because I wouldn't give him any (I'd told him constantly "I'm being blunt with you I'm not giving you any money" He's like is okay I just walking with you but then wants money at the end, acting like he was my guide. Likewise places around area you buy food, credit card machine suddenly isn't working, the bill has extra items in there. Staff at Hotel Cosmopolitan though are great.

I've stayed at the Cosmo before and it's a good location. It's an older hotel but well maintained. Lots of character. Barking dogs made sleeping difficult

The location of hotel is excellent and room is very clean and quiet. The furniture in the room is bit old fashion, but compare the room rate no complain. Only negative feedback is shower room floor is very slippy, I would like to suggest the hotel to arrange a rubber mat to avoid any accident to happen.

The receptionist allowed me to check in earlier. Very kind.

It was good overall. Just several of the staff, at the front door and restaurant were not friendly nor attentive. Rather they just were engrossed on their phones. Omar at the front desk was fantastic, really making us feel welcome and spoke very good English. Breakfast was very good, coffee decent and chef very nice. Oddly the others would just stand around chatting or on phones and offer no service. Bell boys were nice. Very nice sitting lounge.

They wouldn’t check me in or let me dine without cash payment I used the laundry services and besides taking two days, they lost my expensive shirt and some other items But I would stay there agsin

Funcionarios muito atenciosos, fizeram o possível para me acomodar de ultima hora para checkin antecipado em função de reserva mal sucedida em outro hotel. O Cosmopolitan é um hotel bem localizado com custo beneficio excelente, o que é raro no Cairo. Recomendo a todos.

The perfect location in downtown Cairo! The staff were most competent and enthusiastic to assist in all respects.

Area was not nice. Front desk were young guys that were unable/ difficult to help with attractions or transportation. Hotel is old and needs to be renovated. I used Uber, but they try to scam you. I used Viator for attractions. They pick up and drop you off at your hotel. I moved in the middle of my stay to Ritz Carlton… an expense that I did not plan for, but had to.

The only neverive is that the hotel forgot to have us picked up at the airport. 5 hours later and $500 poorer and we arrived at the hotel. From that time on, the hotel was very nice. The housekeeping staff was excellent. The beds were comfortable and the location right in the downtown area. Very opulent looking lobby.

Great central location

The staff at the Cosmopolitan work assiduously to provide the best service for their guests. The rooms are clean The breakfast buffet is excellent. The hotel is strategically located near the Egyptian Museum, the Nile River and the railway/subway metro. This hotel is a great value for the money and has an "old" school charm.

Dette hotellet har nok vært veldig fint, men det er lenge siden. God beliggenhet nær Tahirplassen og Nasjonalmuseet. God frokost, men kaffen kan bli bedre. Utrolig kul heis, i seg selv verd et besøk. Dårlig rengjøring, endel av skitten virker inngrodd. Også mye støy. Verandadører kan ikke lukkes- alle lydene fra utsiden- og det er mye- går rett inn i rommet. Vi ble vekt klokken 05 hver dag av minaretene som kalte inn til bønn. Det kan også nevnes at hotellet er alkoholfritt, som vel har både gode og dårlige sider. Hyggelige og hjelpsomme ansatte.

We chose this hotel based on excellent location in the heart of Cairo downtown. You can comfortably handle the whole downtown by foot, stores, restaurants, museum, etc. Area is typical Cairo-downtown and somewhat chaotic, but we found it safe day and night. Hotel has guards outside, no worries there. Hotel itself is comfortable, in interesting old style, clean with functional but somewhat small rooms. Especially unique is the elevator, a must see! It is a compromise between smaller and cheaper places (loud) in downtown that are perhaps more appropriate for younger visitors, and more upscale and expensive ones (mostly further away, you need taxi to get to center). As the idea was to explore Cairo and use hotel mostly for a good nights sleep, this turned out to be a good choice. Free buffet style breakfast is extensive, coffee not something to brag about. Room was clean and attended daily, bathroom renovated. Our room was reasonably quiet, except some dog barking. In Cairo hotels, outside noise during night is something that needs to be paid attention to as there are a lot of complaints from visitors from other hotels in downtown - but this hotel is located somehow a short stretch into a small street that is blocked by the hotel so it is not an issue. Shortly - we found this hotel to be a good choice if you are there to explore Cairo.
