Arundel House Hotel

Very nice old building with lots of original featues,lovely airy conservatory for breakfast, a bit misleading in photos of full english but only continental included in price, full english is an extra 12.50 pp, plus 18 pp for parking is a bit steep. Otherwise lots of stairs to our room on third floor as we were right in the eaves, so for those with mobility issues always best to check to be put on ground floor, also stairs down to restaurant/breakfast room, we had an enjoyable stay.

Car parking £18 for the night. I wish I had known.

Dated but clean and comfortable, bar shut even to residents at 2200hrs, we had a large room overlooking the river and park, 10 minute walk to the city centre alongside the river. Parking is £18 for the overnight but ended at 1100.

Sadly few staff at check in. The hotel is a conversion from a row of separate houses with a central corridor to access bedrooms, with many steep staircases, no lifts available. So carried luggage up the staircases. The rooms on the 3rd floor are very small and in the hot weather not well ventilated. We needed to open the only window to the emergency staircase to allow some ventilation at night in a warm summer visit. No fans or airconditioning available, it is an old building. Staff only seen at front desk and breakfast and limited in number. The dining breakfast conservatory area is very pleasant but no lunch or tea service available. Few staff to clear tables in the conservatory at breakfast Parking is plentiful but pricey, and the location is excellent

Everything was easy and converted for a stay in Cambridge. The onsite parking is expensive if you've not booked direct. Was very quiet in January!

The lobby, restaurant, bar and conservatory were bright and inviting. The steep, narrow steps up to our room were threadbare, the room was fine, however the shower was small and the door scraped along the frame. The staff were all polite but not very outgoing or easy to find.

Very nice hotel with a well appointed lounge and restaurant.However, we should have been warned that there is no lift our room being on the third floor it was a bit of a slog with suit cases etc.certainly not disabled or age friendly. Unfortunately we were not told until the same evening that the bar and restaurant is closed on Sunday. We also thought that the parking fee was over priced at £54 for 3 nights !!

We had lovely stay. In summer, the rooms could do with air conditioner. Otherwise, excellent location to central, walking distance.

The hotel has a 1970s feel which we quite like. The room is comfortable. It was a hot weekend when we were there and we enjoyed sitting in the garden for quite some time. The only frustration was that the bar closed at 9.30pm. You could buy a bottle of wine from reception but were then told to drink it in the room and not in the public areas.

Chose the hotel for location and car parking - brilliant access to Cambridge centre. Everything very dated in terms of decor and upkeep but service was good and staff friendly and helpful. Super continental breakfast included in room rate. Car parking £18 overnight until 11am next day. If you book direct with the hotel, car parking is free. We stayed in the Club King room in an annexe behind the hotel. Room was very well appointed, comfortable bed and tea/coffee making facilities but it was cold on arrival. However, reception provided a heater which was fine until the heating came on at 5.30pm. Overall, a tired hotel but good for an overnight stay within easy walking to centre of town.

I have stayed here previously, and it is a great location in the centre of Cambridge, with parking, Wi-Fi and restaurant/bar. Upon check in, the receptionist struggled to find my booking, but then eventually did. Then tried to charge a £15 damage waiver which, although I didn’t see mentioned on the website I agreed to pay. Was then told I couldn’t pay contactless with my phone, it had to be the physical card, which I wasn’t carrying. I then had to pay £18 for parking (which I was aware of and was mentioned on the website) which miraculously they could accept payment by contactless from my phone. My room was a single on the 3rd floor overlooking the car park. See pictures attached, window was mouldy and when opened, had no restrictions on it, so you could easily fall out. Paintwork, wallpaper and carpets were all worn/damaged. There was cracked tiles in the bathroom, the shower cubicle was mouldy and full of grime and the shower head was disgusting. There were cracks in the wall/ceiling. The mattress was worn and had no mattress protector. The duvet was stained. Restaurant food was nice, but nothing special and quite expensive (£27 for steak and chips). Waitress didn’t know what sides came with meals. Just one waitress covering restaurant/bar, but luckily there was only 6 people in there. Continental buffet breakfast included which was ok, although slow to be restocked. It was an extra £12.95 for a cooked breakfast. All in all, a great location but needs a serious update.

I stayed a week. A little pricey for a hotel that needs refurbishing. Breakfast was very good and some staff nice and helpful. It's very convenient to Cambridge Centre right on the Cam. Guys, clean better, for example, there was dust on the mounding and headboard, on the pipes in the bathroom. The carpeting in the bathroom around the toilet was pee-stained. The grout in the shower was gross, orange. Update some stuff, including the TV, bathroom faucets, curtains, carpeting, electricity. The room card and the info sheet should have the same info about breakfast time. Put something on the doorframes so they don't slam, so noisy.

The hotel is responsible clean in main area's restaurant and reception. This hotel is in need of a redecorating in all other area's. It just looks shabby and unloved

Understaffed and way overpriced. In the room, dried urine and pubic hair on toilet. No cleaners available to sort. Receptionist said they would sort (they really shouldn't have to) but never did. Middle of July, very hot, no air conditioning and no fans available. Noisy firedoors slamming themselves throughout the night. Paid for breakfast but then had to pay an extra £12.95 pp for breakfast (unless you're a Kellogg's Cornflakes type). Generally very 90s and looking very tired. Great location and could be so good but this one's a massive FAIL. Avoid.

Hotel is in a lovely position we had a double single room looking out over the park, it may be a little noisy for some but we enjoyed the view. Room was abit tied looking and was dirty around edges, could have done with a deep clean, lots to point out if you wanted to be fussy, but we only stayed the one night. Breakfast was continental hot alternative was extra to pay.

The first room offered had mould on the wall and window frames and smelt of damp. I was offered a much better alternative but still wasn’t particularly clean - e.g. behind the toilet or taps or the extractor fan (covered in dust). Shower screen old and covered in limescale, tap coming of the wall and bathroom radiator rusty.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent meals in the restaurant and very good value. Good continental breakfast. Hotel very clean. Would stay there again.

Rooms were clean and well appointed- including a much appreciated teapot! Only downside was the double room was on the small side.

The room still had the bedding from the last customer and had not been cleaned. Very poor. They did not seem to be able to get the room cleaned! After an hour they finally allocated another room. While it was clean, it was very warm with no effective ventilation - terrible night, not much sleep :-( While the parking spaces were normal sized, the car park was very tight making it hard to get out without clipping a wall or a car parked at the end of the row. Avoid this hotel!

The whole place just felt a little grubby and rundown.

Arundel House is located right on the River and across from beautiful Jesus Green. Everything is within easy walk-able distance, but you're just outside the crowded center. The hotel is a little down at the heels but has a lot of old fashion charm. The only real draw back was that both wifi and (for us) cellular were poor in our room. Still, we would stay again, the location was great.

Arundel House has many things to recommend it - location along the canal and park, secure parking, onsite restaurant. The staff was professional and efficient. Unfortunately, they also had possibly the worst sleeping comfort I've ever encountered at a hotel. Wafer thin pillows and mattresses that were so worn out they simply collapsed into an asymmetrical crater beneath you. In fairness, given the overall rating, I suspect we simply got a room very much in need of updating. But it will.prevent me from staying there again. Other aspects of the hotel were very nice, but it's also good to be aware there is quite a lot of late night street noise at weekends from students in the park.

Room very tired and was very hot with only one small window which was inadequate. Really only wanted a good nights sleep and didn"t get one. It was warm but the room was hotter than elsewhere, no fans or a/c etc

Very nice and comfortable. Tea in a real teapot was wonderful. Included breakfast was also great. Wi-Fi in the room was spotty but understandable given the antique architecture but wonderful and fast to work in the glass house observatory.

This hotel was in a good location. It was in a cute area of town and walkable to restaurants and parks. It was one of the few places I could find that had separate beds for our two teenaged boys. There are no elevators--so be aware. There was a tub, but no shower in the bathroom. Our room was on the 4th floor, so our boys were our luggage guys. Overall the hotel is cosy--like a grandma's house--and worn out, but comfy.

The hotel itself is nice, but the internet in our room was terrible (3rd floor). Given that internet is essentially for international travelers without cell data, this added a lot of unnecessary stress. Want to plan the day and get directions, no. Want to make a reservation for dinner, no. Want to relax in the evening with a movie, no. …

Great location, opposite Jesus Green though on a busy road which meant road noise. We booked a large twin. I’m not convinced we got this as our room did not look like the pictures and was more of a small twin, even though I checked with reception. Hmmm! Very clean and nice fluffy towels. Hot day and we were on the top floor - it was almost unbearably hot.

Confusing information re parking and room location from reception. No air-conditioning, very warm rooms. TVs need updating, unable to veiw from bed.

The property is dated, although I stay when prices are low when I book last minute, it’s not value for money. they have a habit of asking for a deposit by way of physical card and don’t accept contactless apple or other method. Nowhere in the policy states they only accept physical cards, and to be threatened by an arrogant on a power trip manager that my booking will be cancelled and not refunded unless I can produce a physical card and not they don’t take contactless Apple Pay. The bathrooms have rust all around and the only thing added post 1988 are the telephones in the rooms, Food is overpriced even at discount rates, with better quality 200yards away, but if you don’t pay £15 deposit by way of hard physical your booking is cancelled, I guess it’s better than having to leave your goat as a deposit dating back to when it was built as technology has not caught up.

The desk manager Zara was very helpful and a gem, the hotel is older but has a cosy atmosphere. The in house dinning was good quality for reasonable prices. We would stay again.

An enjoyable stay in a dated but clean and friendly hotel. Although hotel advises short staffed, the staff were friendly and willing to do what they could. Certainly would stay again. Great location.

Arundel hotel was in a fabulous location but the reception staff were not very friendly. We arrived early and knew and was hoping to visit Cambridge. The lady on reception was quite snappy and said we could not check in until 3 which we were expecting. We asked if we could leave our luggage and after a bit of hoohar she said ok. When we arrived at the hotel we were confronted with several steps to get to reception. As a disabled person we asked if there was an easier entrance and was told to go round the back which was quite a walk with our luggage. When we got to the back the entrance was in that level but again reception was up a flight of stairs. I asked in the conservatory where the lift was only to be told they did not have one so I had to struggle up the stairs. This is definitely a hotel to avoid if you have mobility problems. Apart from that the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok but only continental and limited in choice. If you wanted a cooked it was an extra £12.50. All I can say it was convenient to pick up our coach to Southampton but would not stay there again.

The hotel is in a good location over looking the river, with adequate parking [ although expensive if not booked direct with the hotel]. The check in was rushed and very little information given. Young lady did not know about the Sunday lunch and parking offer, which was mentioned in the room. The room was spacious but very dated and there was no shower above the bath. A jug was provided! At breakfast we asked about gluten free options and was just told fruit was available, this was plentiful and very fresh but expected more for breakfast. Was then given the option of some toast, but this arrived as frozen bread. Upon request it was slightly toasted on one side and required doing again. Large pots of decaf tea and coffee were provided upon request. Some staff were very helpful and others not so.

Staff at the hotel care little for guests' requests. Reserved a taxi with the receptionist on duty the night before my scheduled check-out. Reiterated the time and destination twice to ensure it was noted correctly an,\d giving myself ample time to get from the hotel to the train station with 30 minutes to spare. Day of departure, either the taxi wasn't actually booked or it was reserved for a later time (this was never made clear to me). As I waited anxiously outside for my taxi, receptionist did nothing. As we approached the time for my train's departure, I returned to the receptionist several times for an update (I should note, two taxis from the company the hotel works with were parked, empty outside but had not been called for the hotel and therefore could not take me). Finally, the receptionist booked another cab but gave the wrong train station (I mistakenly did not verify, as I assumed she had the info from my initial booking and at this point was very anxious about missing my train and my next hotel booking in Oxford). Long story short, cab went to wrong station (was late anyways), I missed my train and ended up paying 2.5 times the cost of the taxi to loop around to the correct station plus a rebooking fee for my train ticket. Contacted the hotel by phone and email asking for some compensation and they have not had the decency to reply. Very disappointed. Spoiled my stay entirely. Would not recommend at all. Receptionist did nothing to assist me in a timely manner.

Very nice room and good service booking in but not leaving , I did find her a bit rude and also wasn’t told I would have to give 15 pounds for insurance and haven’t got it back yet and it’s been over a week

We arrived late afternoon to find out the room we had booked had been given to another couple However an upgraded room was allocated so that was fine. At breakfast if you wanted a cooked breakfast we waited 15min before anyone came to take order. Staff seemed to be obliviius

I love to go sightseeing with my family members and I have stayed in countless hotels. I do not use to write negative feedback but my experience with this hotel is the worst among all, making me to feel that I have to write something. First of all, the receiptionist was impolite and even rude. I was told that there was a charge for the carpark. When I tried to ask the fee for parking, I could not understand why I gave the impression to the receptionist that I did not want to pay the fee. She mocked at me in a way that I could not pay. As a solicitor, I think I did never intend to evade my liability of whatever nature. Second, I rented a family room. It was a nice room but located at the 4th floor, Seeing that we have 7 baggage, she just directed me, cooly, that to take them upstairs. She told me the time for breakfast. Because her English has a thick foreign accent, I could not hear clearly. When I tried to clarify the time but it seemed to me that she did not even want to talk to me. Or perhaps Icould not understand her English for the first time, she felt she had no responsibility to clarify. When my daughter came to the reception and wanted to ask if there was a lift to go up to the 4th Floor, before she could finish her sentence, the receptionist bluntly stopped her and shouted no. I am aggrieved by the receptionist. Although my room is good and the breakfast is satisfactory, I am sure I would not stay at this hotel again.

Best hotel I’ve stayed been to in Cambridge at a very reasonable price. Impeccably presented, lovely helpful staff, comfortable bed, lovely clean room and a good shower. I would like to pass on One constructive comment. The directions to the hotel assume that you are technically savvy and are coming by car or taxi. I travelled to Cambridge by train and was going to the hotel by bus. There are no instructions on the hotels website and unfortunately, I Was given what appears to be incorrect information by the night receptionist. As a result I found myself on the new market Road, some distance from the hotel As I had walking difficulties at the time the hotel had to send a cab to collect me, which, to their credit they paid for. This could have been avoided had there been instructions on the website , other than that, it’s a superlative hotel, highly recommended.

A well situated property. Parking at £18 per day was expensive when a resident. Breakfast was continental and not replenished regularly. Staff need more training. Needed to be asked to top up items on buffet and clear tables following each course. When ordering a full English breakfast the waiter delivered the food and payment was immediately requested. Not a good value at £12.50. Evening meal was exceptional with good service from our waiter. Would visit again.

Great location, directly across the road from Jesus Green, the river and a good coffee/wrap/cake hub. Serving staff in the conservatory were pleasant and attentive. Generous continental breakfast options. Multiple steep, narow srairs were difficult with luggage. No lunch avaiable at all.

Hotel nice and clean but very dated. Good location and easy access to city centre. Hotel requires full update and renovation. Rooms need more electrical sockets as well. Continual breakfast free but if you want full English extra £12.50. Had evening meal at hotel, nice food and very reasonably priced. If you book Direct with hotel apparently parking is free but if you book via 3rd Party they charge you £18 per car, so as I met a friend there even though we booked twin room it cost £36 for parking. Very expensive

Great walking location to Cambridge. Breakfast and afternoon tea were fantastic!

Our visit started off with a bit of a bumpy start with a room that was cramped, non functioning toilet and lacked a shower. The other challenge could be the lack of lifts to various floors leading to issues with baggage. However, the staff quickly assisted us with better accommodations for our 2 week stay. We enjoyed both breakfast and evening dining options at Arundel as well as nearby restaurants along Bridge street. We walked everywhere but taxi service was promptly arranged when requested. Internet access was consistent around the property and freely available. Coming from a Caribbean island based on tourism we appreciated the friendliness, courtesy and readiness of staff to assist when approached.
