Nice helpful staff, very good food & great that you can park just outside your room, very reasonably priced.

Its more like a motel than a hotel which mean you can get your car right infront of your door. Privacy if you need it. Location and surrounding towns and villages, especially to Durham. Internet access ok. TV was weak or poor signal most of the time. Good choice at breakfast, paid for separately. Nice outdoor seating close to the bar. Rooms overlooking fields.

The Honest Lawyer consisted of a central building with bar and restaurant and then 46 motel rooms ranged around a car park. It is on a busy main road although the rear of the rooms looked out over a field backed by a wood. Because it was on a main road it was right on the route of three buses so was great for getting to Durham bus station.The staff were all friendly and obliging and the rooms were clean and serviced well. The main building where the bar and restaurant were had obviously recently had money spent on the decor. Food in the restaurant was middle of the road but tasty and plentiful enough. The rooms in the motel part were adequate enough with two chairs,plenty of sockets and mirrors and a nice warm shower over a bath. They did look a little tired and could do with some updating. Also there were hanging baskets right around the car park in which all the plants were dead. I would stay here again if in the vicinity and would recommend it

We were visiting family in the area and we had stayed at this quirky hotel on other occasions and found it to be fine. It’s easy to find. If you have a dog with you, you are usually allocated a courtyard room. These are simple but comfortable rooms with their doors opening to where you park your car- right outside. Very handy! Door secured by a chain. We have always found the rooms to be clean. The beds singles) were comfortable. There is (unbranded) tea and coffee, and UHT semi skimmed milk cartons provided daily. Plus a biscuit each. The bathroom is fairly old fashioned-a bath with a wall mounted, removable shower head. A toilet without soft close seat, but flushes well. There is an extractor fan. And a great heated towel rail. Our only complaint is that the hot water is scalding. No matter what we did with the temperature controls it was too hot to stand under. It could be dangerous if you are either very young, or old. We told the person on reception. TV -no channels unless you signed in to free view on your mobile phone/iPad. Might be difficult if you don’t have one. Fantastic view over a field out of the window, and the wildlife nearby is wonderful. Pheasants, and 4 gorgeous roe dear this morning. We saw a heron last time! Cooked Breakfast in the hotel is made to order and is wonderful! We also had dinner on one night and the food was really good. We would definitely stay again.

It's a motel and it looks a biit scruffy covered in England flags. Hanging baskets fo help though. Friendly staff, a good night's sleep and good breakfast. Plus good value.

Comfortable and quiet. Bus stop outside. Plenty of parking immediately outside rooms. Would stay here again.

The hotel provides small but functional en suite rooms which were warm and clean. It is also dog friendly. The restaurant meal was good value with very generous portions of well made food

Very comfortable room. Quite large in size. Could easily park my car in front of room, which was convenient. Walk to restaurant for a good meal. Staff were great. Good location too.

Good hotel with a restaurant and bar, so plenty of facilities. Tidy and clean. Rooms decent, all what you need but nothing particularly special. Out of centre so need car or taxis to go into centre. Some noise between rooms but not too much.

LIKED that I could park right outside my ground floor room. Beds were comfortable and room was of a medium size which was fine for a one night stay for just myself. We booked a bigger room on our last stay and would say it was better. However you can't have breakfast after 9am. Perhaps ok for Workers but 9.30 or 10am would be better for holidaymakers. I chose not to have breakfast for this reason. The location was easy to find and on a main road off the A1 and easy to get to the P& R into Durham.

The bar was great and the staff lovely. The cooked breakfast was nice but the continental breakfast lacking. The room had mould round the bath and the toilet was grim.but it was a convenient hotel and not expensive so you take your chance I guess. We would book again

However, foil stuck over vent which could account for mould. More like a motel than hotel as rooms are in annex around car park. Not an issue but just dont expect to be in main building. Noisy as on main road, take ear plugs if light sleeper. Cannot comment on bar or restaurant as didn't use them . Check in was speedy if not exactly welcoming. Same with checkout. No one asked how my stay was. Wouldn't stay there again but that was because i wwas in the area fir a specific event that is unlikely to be tepeated.

Clean room, good staff, large flat screen tv, good breakfast, good value

Room clean however very dated, bathroom sealant mouldy and dirty. Window insecure and batroom widow frames rotten. Lovely bar, great food, friendly service

Although the room was clean the whole room including bathroom needed updating. Bathroom was mouldy with broken tiles. Bed was fine but pillows poor, whole decor needs to be updated as it looked grubby including worn carpet. No air conditioning. Room had a window which opened slightly but due to constant traffic noise, had to stay closed, which made room stuffy. Could hear neighbour as walls very thin which caused an issue during our stay. Hotel was hosting a wedding party and the person in the room next to us kept bringing friends from the party back and forth, shouting, screaming and swearing. As we had to be up early the next day I had to report this to management as unable to sleep. I think the hotel should either just keep the rooms for the wedding guests or if open to all then wedding guests must be told that if they want to meet elsewhere, then they need to stay near the venue and not use their rooms as a conference room!!

The room was motel style and a bit past its best. The room looked onto plastic style bins full of soil and weeds, more could be made of them if planted with shrubs. The bathroom was in need of a refurb and needs a deep clean as it was very grubby and dirty. Bedside lamp not working, tv remote falling apart and held together with grubby tape. Restaurant staff very unfriendly and when asked for a drinks price list (which is a legal requirement) said they did not have one as drink prices were being updated. The price we paid for our drinks were very expensive.

Rooms/bathrooms need upgrading !! Rooms not cleaned or dusted…!

Bathroom was not clean. Black mould in shower and room very dated. But room was very cheap

Room generally nice. Toilet seat area was less than clean and seat also needs replacing. Constant humming fan by the door in the room is a bit annoying at night. One irritating thing: If you ask for a breakfast in a take-away container, they'll ask what you specifically want, then smile and nod, but once you open it later, you'll find you got far less than what you asked for. This has happened to me twice now, which means I now get breakfast elsewhere. : (

Lovely staff, the room was clean albiet very dated but it was comfortable enough. Very noisy, down to being able to hear the next doors light switch being flicked. Stayed after an event in Durham City, so it was ideal for what I needed.

Good location. Terrible WiFi unusable. Breakfast average. Room comfortable.

Evening meal average. Beds comfy and good bedding but bathroom desperate for updating and wifi connection poor.

Staying for access to university visit. Twin room was basic but very clean. Room was a bit cold but that may have been me being a bit under the weather. Bathroom was small but well formed. No toilet brush was odd but otherwise fine. Walls are paper thin. Quiet conversations are easily audible. Restaurant good. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent value for money

Considering the price paid, this is a very good hotel. Stayed for 2 nights for work. Food in the restaurant is reasonably priced and portions are large. The WiFi is excellent

We stayed he for 4 nights possibly on the hittest days of the year, no fan was offered and was unbearably hot for sleeping, sheets of towels were not changed even thiugh i left the note on the door handle to do so. Theres no fridge so had no way if keeping drink cold. The rooms are not very big, and having the window open you could hear the tv and talking in joining rooms. One bonus is the buses pass by into Durham and further afield and run frequently and late.

Staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. We were very late to arrive to check-in, just after 11pm. And the website said check-in time was between 3pm & 11pm. There was no issue with this, though I did call them during the day to say we will be late arriving. Also, we had to leave our car in the car park after we checked-out the next morning, to attend the graduation ceremony, until later in the day. It was not an issue at all for them. Super accommodating & helpful. We would stay there again.

Offhand when booking in. First room smelled with tiny double bed . Courtyard rooms like sheds. Better rooms not dog friendly. Given a twin room with no guarantee we could stay the next night.

Accommodation good value for money. Clean and comfortable beds. Breakfast at an additional cost of £12.50 pppn not so good Continental breakfast very disappointing. Options consisted of....cereals, bread, small selection of fruit. No yogurts, pastries, meats , cheeses , crumpets, pancakes etc. Hot water for Tea and Coffee was supplied in a thermos type jug which obviously only stays hot for so long and unfortunately was never hot enough when we used them. Hot options where ok but some items missing when served and cold when finally served. Due to no fault of his own Server/manager was under severe pressure to serve and replenish breakfast items at the same time. This is due to a lack or additional staff.

I have stayed here many times and the property and staff are excellent. In room facilities are what you need and no frills, food including breakfast in the restaurant is fresh and tasty and the free extensive car park is really useful. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The food and service of the staff is excellent. The rooms are tired and scruffy. The cleaners cleaned well but still felt dirty as aged and grubby. We had an issue with the tap on first night that kept us awake as an air lock was making high pitched noise that hurt our ears. The manager gave us a key the next morning to another room and saiid it would be cleaned for when we got back later after our day out. We got back and took stuff to new room to find it has not been cleaned so we had to move again. We had booked twin room as it was me and my daughter but we had to share a double room. This 3rd room was not comfortable bed. Very noisy when you slightly moved. The TV did not work and bathroom door handle coming off. Not the best experience. I felt shattered when I left as did not sleep well and noisy courtyard too outside rooms in a morning. Staff great and food lovely though. Needs renovating and refreshing. New decor. New bathrooms. New mattresses needed

Nice rooms motel style and bar restaurant on same site. The bed qas ok but not that comfortable ild mattress? Great place to stay if visiting durham with local bus very frequent and only 13 minutes to durham centre

I've stayed a few times recently while working in the area. Accommodation is fairly basic, but comfortable beds, clean, warm and a great little restaurant onsite with nice food. Ideal for a few days stop.

Stayed in the courtyard area, had lovely views over the fields at the back. The room itself was a good size, comfortable bed and storage facilities were all of a good standard, just the bathroom needed a little updating as a bit tired. The breakfast was very good (perfect poached eggs) also had our dinner there a couple of times and the food again was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Just 3 miles from Durham City Centre and surrounded by some stunning scenery . Would definitely stay here again if we were venturing up that way.

I spent two nights at this hotel when visiting Durham to attend a celebration. Room was clean and very comfortable .Very quiet location. Restuarant food was superb.Excellent breakfast choices.The Sunday roast was second to none. Staff in the Restuarant we’re friendly and very attentive.A credit to the hotel. I had a very enjoyable stay and would stay again when I’m in the area.

Recepnist friendly.and very help full . Room fine for price but the bathroom fans very lound. For £60 is a ok stay. Food . Pizza were horrible and the mix fish.platter was terrible.would.stay again because of room price would noy eat at pub. Drinks prices not a total rip off. Didnt have breakfast tea put us off!

The room was clean and had everything we needed for the night. One thing we didn't like was the shower curtain. It did not keep the water in and it stuck to you while trying to shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was plenty of parking. The only let down was the breakfast. While it was hot and there was plenty of it available we did not think it was worth the £12.50 per person extra.
