Derby Mickleover Hotel, BW Signature Collection

Disappointed the pool was closed! Room was tired, very noisy from road and clanging pipes at night when tried to sleep hotel in need of some maintenance all round

Pool found to be out of use after booking on hotels.com and looking on hotel website 3 days after booking which was very disappointing as would of gone for a morning swim with my daughter, this was not mentioned on booking details on hotels.com site at all. Check in was average experience and was told no food or bar after 10pm which was fine but not great for late arrivals as we were Reception is pleasent area but once you get up to room corridors via lift with worn carpet and tatty wallpaper in a frame to decorate it you really find the place really does need a refit. Although clean all areas look very dated (i would say 90s) and in need of re decoration. Room (203) needs new shower, bath panel dated tiling carpet not great and door stop missing rubber end dangerous fitted to bathpanel right where you step out my daughter cut her foot on it (reported to reception) Overall it was fine for a nights stay and would of stayed longer to use the pool but we left and headed back to kent after a trip to Alton Towers the day of stay Room rate was cheap maybe to refect the closed pool area which i was unaware of as mentioned at time of booking. This is meant to be a Best western signature hotel but having stayed at the Folkstone hotel recently your Derby property is way below standard sadly.

The pool was out of action, the room was tidy bit some areas could do with more attention with cleaning, there was black mould around the bath and what looked like cigarette burns in the bath.

I actually enjoyed my stay here♡ Staff were lovely, very welcoming, helpful and kind. The hotel IS a little tired, but its ok. Could do with an update, but i ve stayed in worse places. The staff made up for what the decor lacked. Swimming pool was a nice bonus

Rooms were quite big, but very dated. Bathroom was clean but mold on the silicone. Plush towels. The spa pool was nice but all the other areas such as the shower, changing areas etc were quite disgusting. The lift floors had carpet which were nasty; and clumps of hair in one lift that was there for hours. Ample car parking. The staff were really nice and helpful. The breakfast was decent, small choices eg one type of cheese, 2 types of mini pastries, cooked breakfast was good, standard small breakfast but good. All in all, did the job for a one night stay on the way back from Alton Towers. For £60 I can’t complain except for a couple of grubby things mentioned in the review; just don’t expect much of the spa!

Really enjoyable stay although wasnt expecting London prices in the bar. It was a really enjoyable stay the breakfast was kept well stocked and being able to use the pool made it even more enjoyable for the children. Highlyre

Purposely booked the hotwl for the pool and facilities. Travelled down from Durham, arrived at the hotel only to be told the pool and facilties were closed for maintenance.

Perfect for where we needed to be, staff were amazing, hotel is spotless, pool was closed for maintenance but we were informed prior to arrival. Hotel furniture is dated but overall would atay here again

There is ample parking on site and guests need to check in their vehicle reg at reception or you will be fined. Check in was very quick and the lady on reception was very helpful. The reception area / foyer looks upmarket. The rooms are dated and basic but were spacious and clean with everything you needed. Both rooms had balconies however we were umable to use them as they were undergoing repairs. The bathrooms have shower gel, hand wash and body wash all provided. The water is extremely hot (there are warning signs) and of a could water pressure. We didn't use the spa facilities but they looked good. We were given the option to add extras/upgrades at a discounted price prior to arrival however we decided against it. We changed our mind about breakfast so unfortunately didn't benefit from the £10 offer so paid £14.95 on the day. The staff in the restaurant were again incredibly polite and efficient but the food and drink was poor. The juices were all very watery and not drinkable. The hot food selection was cheap (somewhat understandable with it being an unlimited buffet) and over cooked. I also found a hair in one of my eggs. The HP sauces were all on their last dregs and needed throwing away. The waiting staff were attentive good at replacing food which was nearly empty and removing used plates etc once finished. The breakfast really let the stay down and if we hadn't had it, I would have given it 5*

Rooms were ok, but I chose the hotel because it was a night out with the grandkids only to find the pool was closed, The restaurant menu was very limited

The hotel was very clean and the staff were mostly very helpful but a member of staff could not tell us where the stairs to the underground carpark was and when I asked for oat milk for my coffee, if never arrived. I also found that the breakfast was very greasy. Our room was lovely but I found that the mattress was a little lumpy. We would probably stay again but wouldn’t pay extra for the breakfast.

Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Room is spotlessly clean if a little tired. It would have been nice to have been informed that the pool was closed before we arrived, and it’s worth noting that hotel guests don’t have to pay for the car park. Restaurant staff friendly, food is ok, wine over priced.

Unclean and very dirty , rooms stink of cigarettes, wet towels on the air conditioning units , Pool / spa was dirty, changing rooms for the males had blood mixed in with the water on the floor , pool area it’s self was very un safe and un clean , the spa it self was dirty cold water, Rooms were very outdated as well as the outside of the hotel and needs a massive re make over. Manger had given drinks voucher by the time we moved rooms went to the spa and told the issues they were only just sorting the area out , We were there for 2 hours if that , we checked out the only good thing was a a full refund that was given back They need to close the hotel and update it if they want guess to stay , Don’t be fooled by the pictures because I was and was very disappointed

Hotel was old and grubby and in desperate need of refurbishment outside and in. Not worth the money paid at all. Pool area and spa were very grubby and really need sorting - I would avoid staying in this hotel again very disappointed. Staff were lack lustre and you have to ask for rooms to be cleaned which we were not made aware off. Was probably a nice hotel in late 1980’s but not much done to it since then

My wife & I have just enjoyed a very nice stay at Mickleover Hotel. The room was very clean & spacious. The bed were extremely comfortable, just like being at home. All of the Staff we encountered were very professional & extremely helpful & pleasant. I thought the pressure on the shower wasn't very good and the mastic around the shower controls needs renewing otherwise there may be water ingress which may be more expensive to fix. Also the trouser press in the room did not work but there was an iron & ironing board in the room. Wevery much look forward to staying at this hotel again.

The whole hotel is dirty, I don't know how this is a 4-star hotel and has 8 stars. The room was dirty, and the central heating did not work. The AC/heater was so dry that the nose, throat, and mouth were dry- couldn't sleep. Then, the TV did not work, the iron was leaking, and the whole dress/bed was a pool of water. Housekeeping entered the room without knocking. There were no slippers for dirty rooms. When raised, there were no rooms to change to, or we could downgrade you and partially refund you. When argued, were then changed to another room, which was partly better. then in the end when asked about what is the situation update. nobody had the answer at checkout. ruined the whole trip. never again

Room smelt as though someone had been smoking in room, window (patio door) didn’t open, evidence of damp on ceiling & wall to bathroom.

Massive family room, beds were so comfy! Room was really quiet too.

Having stayed here many times over the years, I've seen some changes. The bedrooms are generally still in good condition, although the TVs are quite dated. The general upkeep of the hotel is good. The gym equipment is pretty modern, although frustratingly the running machines appear to only allow 30 minutes at a time. The dining area is one area that really is looking shabby, particularly the seat coverings. They look like builders have been allowed to sit on them with their work clothes on. It's bad enough at breakfast time but it would certainly put me off dining there. Generally, the breakfast is good. However, the fruit juice is pathetic as it appears to be powder based and very very waters down. A quick look around the tables highlighted the issue as there were many left over glasses of the stuff. It's not the first time I've seen this here and perhaps says something about how the staff care about customers.

Freezing cold room and the air con / heater didn’t work so not nice really. Poorly sealed doors and no sound proofing so banging doors, hear people talking next door, other TVs, noisy road outside. Only do room service when they can be mothers, orderded it, phones 20 minutes later and told ‘oh sorry no room service tonight’. Dirty chairs at breakfast but food was OK.

Entrance was lovely. Greeted with a friendly receptionist and the kids got a gift at reception. Room was an executive room on the top floor. Was expecting higher quality. Room smelt heavily of damp, carpet had a big lump in it that was a bit of a trip hazard, and the room generally needed a bit of TLC, as did all the communal areas of the hotel. Wallpaper and paint peeling, carpets worn. Swimming pool was nice but again needed a bit of TLC and was quite a cold temperature. All staff however were lovely and friendly and polite and the beds were very comfy and the room was lovely and spacious. Just all needs an update!

The staff was very professional & pleasant bent over backwards to help but couldn't help when i wanted to open my balcony door as it was out of there hands.

It's a nice hotel, friendly staff, and we had a nice big family room between the 2 of us, as my girlfriend hates my snoring, so it was ideal as it was split into 2 rooms, but it could do with some renovation to bring it into the modern era. Mainly double glazing, our room was freezing due to the big windows and balcony doors. It did come with 2 heaters, one in each room, but the choices were either to sleep with it being really humid and hot or be cold. I also felt the breakfast buffet was overpriced for what it was; it was nice, but nothing to write home about. About the same kind of breakfast buffet you would receive at a Travelodge or Premier Inn, but a higher price.

Very pleasant stay here. Family room was really big, loads of room. It was an hot day, the air con cooled the room nicely. Breakfast was really nice, the beds were nice and comfy, car park had plenty of spaces. Staff were friendly, everywhere was clean, location was great for us. Negatives if being picky, it looks a bit dated with the decor rocking that 1970s wood style vibe and the shower was pretty low pressure. But they are really very minor points. All the things that actually matter the hotel did really well. Very happy with our stay!

Super facilities and friendly staff. Unfortunately was charged over £200 for no reason at all and told it was a system error and told I’d be refunded. Have only been refunded half and nothing more. Still awaiting my refund.

Have stayed at the hotel a few times now this year and last year. Staff always friendly, sometimes you get a free upgrade which is nice. First time using the evening restaurant and food was very good. Plentiful breakfast - usual buffet style for hotel. Unfortunately they charged me twice for room but I’m sure it was a simple mistake and will be soon sorted. Need to make more time for pool and gym!

Stayed overnight whilst visiting Alton Towers. Every member of staff that we dealt with was so friendly and helpful, the reception staff went above and beyond. Room was great, perfect for our family. Swimming pool was enjoyed and the breakfast was nice. We were very pleased with our stay and would stay again.

Check in was really poor. Reception staff Could not find room key cards, then they couldn’t get key card to work, took several phone calls to get another member of staff to fix the problem. Worst experience ever staying in a hotel. Stayed for 2 nights and guest next door were so loud. Walls paper thin. First night people in room were fighting and swearing for hours. The second night was even worse. More shouting, swearing, screaming, banging, glasses smashing. Just an awful experience. I complained the following morning. Staff said they were aware of an incident that happened in the room next door to me and said they women involved in the incident left the hotel!! Staff said they would look into refunding me but have not heard anything back. Defo won’t be back staying at the hotel. Don’t like the fact that you can hear through paper thin walls!

Lisa at reception gave me an excellent welcome. After a long drive, it was lovely having a friendly and speedy check-in with parking, wifi and directions all sorted. Room was very clean and comfortable. Loved the pool and flexibility re bar and brasserie. Breakfast deal was a nice suprise. I will be staying here again.

The rooms were a bit tired and needed some general maintenance. Zakia on reception was excellent and always willing to go beyond to help and be friendly.

Reception staff rude and unhelpful and not offering any information (we had to ask for everything including process for carparking) when we first arrived. Different staff later in the day were better Breakfast staff on the other hand were most lovely and a credit to the team - nothing was too much trouble

Overnight stay. Clean, spacious room with good facilities ( especially an iron and ironing board . I wish all hotels had these ). I already knew that it was a good location within easy walking distance to the village that the hotel is on the periphery of.

We had a great time at the Mickleover. The hotel was well located near Derby with ample parking. What made our stay great was that everything in the room was working properly with a good level of upkeep. The staff were wonderfully engaging and took time to deal with us individually to give us that 5 star treatment.

We had just a 1 night stay. The staff are all really lovely. Room a little dated but clean. Good location and only 30 mins from our trip to Alton Towers. Pool was an added bonus but was very busy.

Staff excellent. Some age related decor but very comfortable. Gym facilities good. Easy walk to other eating options. Idealy situated for what we needed.

Our room was situated atbthe back of the hotel near a main road, but worst of all a generator. This was really noisy till late at night and started up again at six o'clock in the morning. Very disturbed sleep. Also, there was a lack of staff and our room wasn't made up.

Hotel was very dated on outside but lovely decor on inside, rooms were lovely and comfortable. Location ideal for our trip, pool and spa was nice.

Everything was fine if u get a room facing dual carriageway it can have a loud traffic noice but saying that would go again as bus stop over road if want to go to Derby or get a bus from there to avoid using car

The menu options for a Gluten free vegetarian were zero. Every other hotel I’ve stayed in the world have options. Couldn’t care less attitude will never stay there again.

Room was ok, shower was useless and breakfast was terrible. Scrambled eggs look like runny porridge how they think anyone would eat that i don't know. Bos load of coach trippers were in at the same time as us and not one single person went near the eggs . 1 coffee and tea machine so big Qs , food run and out and had too hang around for more. Gym and the pool were good but would not rush back.

I've started in the hotel many times over the years. As usual the staff are friendly but the being let down by a lack of investment. Unfortunately, since it was taken over by best Western the condition of the hotel has deteriorated. For example the tables in the dining area have all lost their polish finish and the chairs are in dire need of recovering and look extremely grotty. They are also cutting corners with the breakfast where the 'fresh' orange juice isn't. Its powdered mix or very watered down dilute.

Check in was delayed by 1hr 20 mins room wasn't ready. Couldnt eat in the restaurant as there was a function and bar food stopped serving at 6:30. No plates or mugs at breakfast

Disappointing. Advertised 24 hour room service, with sandwiches available after 10.30 pm, but at 10.25 pm had no room service food available at all other than crisps. Room had one bedside lamp despite being for 3 people.
