This is a nice hotel, but it’s not a 4 star experience. Rooms and facilities are tired, and not quite as expected. Avoid a ‘cottage’ room - totally separate from the castle in a modern building, giving basic B&B vibes rather than the castle atmosphere. Also, try and find out if there’s a wedding at the castle when you’re staying. It looks like a good venue, but if you’re not part of the wedding you’ll find some areas are off limits and the only bar area is taken over by the wedding reception. On the plus side, the food is good - particularly in the Dungeon restaurant.

Amazing opportunity to stay in a real castle with such a rich history. The staff, especially Jon, were outstanding. Everyone was so accommodating. It seems like they have been making constant improvements to the property. The spa closes early (6p) and several amenities in the spa were out of order. Be aware that the archery and falconry, although on the property, are run by a separate company, closes at 5p, and requires a reservation. The remote location is beautiful and quiet, but be aware that getting a rideshare car is nearly impossible. The taxi company they use is very reasonable, but getting back to Dalhousie from Rosslyn Chapel was nearly $50 (I think due to the remote location). Great event for small parties/weddings. The dungeon dinner was fantastic, but be aware there is only one option (chef’s 7-course) that was $125 per person with no separate option for kids (more expansive, cheaper options at the other on-site restaurant, the Orangery). The complimentary breakfast was also delicious, made to order + continental. If we ever come back to Scotland, I’d come again despite checking staying in a castle off my bucket list.

The castle itself is fantastic, and our room was brilliant. Unfortunately we were left disappointed though as it was booked as a birthday present, mostly for the Spa, which was mostly closed off. Plus in the morning it was closed all together due to work being done. We weren’t told about this prior to booking, and no offer of refund was offered.

We loved this castle hotel! It's so beautiful! We stayed in the lodge. Nice big suites! We had dessert and drinks in the Dungeon Restaurant. The atmosphere was special. The drinks and dessert were delicious and reasonable. The breakfast was wonderful and filling. The staff was helpful and attentive. We were disappointed that the spa facilities weren't functioning. Would highly recommend this wonderful place to everyone!

A beautiful place to stay. Service from check in to check out was great, parking was convenient, and the room was clean. We had dinner in the "dungeon" with the pre-set tasting menu and it was extraordinary. We di did not utilize the spa area so I can't comment on those services. We would definitly stay here again.

Got there at 11pm. No one in reception so had to hunt him down. Nobody behind the bar so no drinks. Would I stay there again .. Absolutely Just a great place to be.

Amazing experience. Especially enjoyed having drinks in the library, visiting with the falconer, relaxing in the spa, and dinner in the dungeon. Worth every penny!!

It was nice. Our room didnt have a castle feel because it was drywall and tiles, but the grounds were lovely, The food was great and most the staff were lovely. It also had a nice little spa that was complimentary. We had a view of the dumpsters which would have been nice if they covered it up, but its out in the country which is nice. If you dont like stairs, maybe not the best place for you. If youre looking for a nice getaway, its a cute little place. If you want to feel like youre sleeping in a castle, might not be the best place.

Went to the bar and never got any service. My wife had to go ask for a menu and she was directed to the table. After getting the menus, it took over 45 minutes before anybody ever even came over to ask us if we wanted something to drink. At that point it was too close to dinner and way too late. Internet connection was awful most of the location was under renovation and unacceptable. Spa had nobody attending it to make any kind of reservation. Fortunately, we got an upgrade as we were scheduled to be placed in the loft which is away from the castle. The above noted the seven course meal was absolutely phenomenal very romantic, and the service was great

For the price,very disappointed in quality of food and service for dinner. Had better food in most pubs throughout Scotland, and room had large wet stain on the wall with black and green mold on it

An impressive castle building which makes use of many different rooms. Feels like you are able to explore inside and out. Twin castle bedroom was very disappointing though with damaged / stained furniture. Bathroom had serious issues - broken shower head, blocked drain and seized hot water tap. Nowhere near the standard expected for the price paid. Food and some staff ok, lacking the refinement and quality for a 4* rating (or 5* as the board at the entrance claims!)

We are 2 couples who chose this beautiful castle hotel, equidistant between our homes, for 1 night to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversaries. First impression was favourable, then we were led to our rooms. So disappointed with the basement location & tired decor. Dungeon dining experience wasnt what we expected having seen different options on the hotel website just 2 nights before arriving. Food was tasty, but scant. Breakfast was very disorganised. Cold plates for self service cooked food which had ran out & took a while to be replenished. No glasses for fruitjuice. Cafetiere of dreadful bitter decaf coffee & weak tea from a flask were served. Staff training/customer service requires addressing.

I booked the hotel to have an experience in a castle. I had that experience and that's about all I can say. My shower didn't work like it was supposed to and made a complete mess while I didn't feel like I got clean. I told the attendant and after looking at it, they simply said they would note it. There was a lack of outlets for charging and even for plugging in a hairdryer - nowhere near a mirror; I had to unplug something to be able to charge my phone. The breakfast was so-so at best and I was questioned when I specifically asked for decaf coffee. The staff I encountered were mostly rude and obnoxious, except for 1 person when I arrived. I am so glad I only booked 1 night.

From the drive up at night we saw Dalhousie in its splendour. What can I say about the Magnificent Dalhousie Castle. All the Staff from front of house to waiting staff and the spa were outstanding. The Spa was magical, we booked in advance and would highly recommend the coconut head massage and back neck & shoulder massage. We came out feeling totally relaxed. Our room was so beautiful four poster room and my fiancee cried when she saw it. The room was huge and spotlessly clean. The grounds are stunning & the Falconry and archery are a must for any visitor to the castle. we will 100 percent be going back. Breakfast was so delicious and set your up for the day. Thankyou so much Dalhousie Castle for the most fabulous 4 night stay we have ever had. Keep doing what you are doing and we will definitely see you again. 10/10

The castle is a stunning building from the outside. Once inside, however, you are in a very tired environment. The hotel is in desperate need of some investment/renovation. The food was delicious and elegantly presented. Some of the service was first class while the majority was sub-par. No value for money.

The staff were ok as were the common areas. We paid for a “honeymoon suite” and it was anything but. Other than the bed the rest of the decor could be found in a skip. The bathroom was from ikea as were a-lot of fixings. The carpet was rough and lots of stains on walls. Hairs in bath and the two robes provided were still wet and stained with what was hopefully tea. The breakfast was fine in the orangery. Overall a let down for the price paid. I’d possibly recommend it at half the price.

This is a nice hotel, but it’s not a 4 star experience. Rooms and facilities are tired, and not quite as expected. Avoid a ‘cottage’ room - totally separate from the castle in a modern building, giving basic B&B vibes rather than the castle atmosphere. Also, try and find out if there’s a wedding at the castle when you’re staying. It looks like a good venue, but if you’re not part of the wedding you’ll find some areas are off limits and the only bar area is taken over by the wedding reception. On the plus side, the food is good - particularly in the Dungeon restaurant.

We had a superb and enormous tower bedroom in this wonderful old castle, which is full of public areas to read and chill. Hugely atmospheric. Highly recommended.

Service was excellent from the receptionist. The food and drinks were superb. We stayed in a castle superior four poster room and it was everything we wanted in a stay at a castle. We will be back!

My husband wanted to sleep in a castle, well he did! Given the age (over 800 years), it is well maintained. The castle itself and the grounds are just beautiful. Very friendly and helpful staff. Things to keep in mind: - it's about 35 minutes from downtown Edinburgh, you can Uber to get to the hotel but have to take a taxi (which cost more) to leave the hotel. - the toilets don't have a very strong flush (lol). - wifi is not good, so make sure you have a good roaming plan; download some movies to watch in the evenings. OR for those that drink, there is a lovely bar and a beautiful library for the book lovers. - I enjoyed their meals but the portions are small. If you want to experience sleeping in a castle, I highly recommend Dalhousie! It was a lovely stay.

was really looking forward to the night here. great dinner but too expensive. room was nothing special for staying in a castle. uncomfortable beds. breakfast is only complimentary with beads, coffee, etc. we used the spa facilities which my daughter loved. would not stay here again because it’s not that special.

It was absolutely lovely. My only concern was that our room was the very top room in the castle with over 60 steps. There was no lift, but they did carry up the bags.

It was nice. Our room didnt have a castle feel because it was drywall and tiles, but the grounds were lovely, The food was great and most the staff were lovely. It also had a nice little spa that was complimentary. We had a view of the dumpsters which would have been nice if they covered it up, but its out in the country which is nice. If you dont like stairs, maybe not the best place for you. If youre looking for a nice getaway, its a cute little place. If you want to feel like youre sleeping in a castle, might not be the best place.

paid to stay in a castle, but ended up in an auxiliary building 5 min walk away from the castle to carry suitcases down 3 flights. They helped us take it up the first time. and the Staff was excellent. I was just disappointed and wanted to stay in a castle room.

The location is far above average. We had a small tower room with a beautiful view of the countryside. We then decided to dine there in the evening. The food was wonderful and the service was very charming. Breakfast in the winter garden was good but average. The service was also not really appropriate for the place and rather careless. Maybe it was not the best day for waitress.

Went to the bar and never got any service. My wife had to go ask for a menu and she was directed to the table. After getting the menus, it took over 45 minutes before anybody ever even came over to ask us if we wanted something to drink. At that point it was too close to dinner and way too late. Internet connection was awful most of the location was under renovation and unacceptable. Spa had nobody attending it to make any kind of reservation. Fortunately, we got an upgrade as we were scheduled to be placed in the loft which is away from the castle. The above noted the seven course meal was absolutely phenomenal very romantic, and the service was great

My sisters stayed here last year, and highly recommended it. We were not disappointed. The castle is beautiful. Even though it has been converted into a luxury hotel, it still feels like a castle, which is what we were looking for. We booked one night in a four poster room, and one in the Honeymoon Suite, but upon check in, discovered they had upgraded our accommodations to the Honeymoon Suite for both nights as an Anniversary gesture. Staff was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely stay!

Excellent hotel and would definitely go back again. Only two thing’s disappointed me. The first my child wasn’t allowed into the Spa, and the second they forgot to book me an early morning taxi to the airport. Almost caused me to miss my first flight of the day. Apart from that perfect and great good.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful grounds and rooms within the castle. All staff were so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The reception staff were particularly outstanding and were always in hand to answer our questions and help us travel into Edinburgh City. Great facilities and delicious food - all round a really delightful stay. Thank you all :)

A beautiful place to stay. Service from check in to check out was great, parking was convenient, and the room was clean. We had dinner in the "dungeon" with the pre-set tasting menu and it was extraordinary. We di did not utilize the spa area so I can't comment on those services. We would definitly stay here again.

Absolutely loved our stay here, Daniel and John where so knowledgeable about the building and John even took us on a tour. All the staff where welcoming and friendly and we would definitely stay again. The location was just perfect and the building is steeped in history, what’s not to love.

We are 2 couples who chose this beautiful castle hotel, equidistant between our homes, for 1 night to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversaries. First impression was favourable, then we were led to our rooms. So disappointed with the basement location & tired decor. Dungeon dining experience wasnt what we expected having seen different options on the hotel website just 2 nights before arriving. Food was tasty, but scant. Breakfast was very disorganised. Cold plates for self service cooked food which had ran out & took a while to be replenished. No glasses for fruitjuice. Cafetiere of dreadful bitter decaf coffee & weak tea from a flask were served. Staff training/customer service requires addressing.

Great two day stay at the castle, it was a special birthday for me and the staff were fantastic, food was perfect, special mention to Daniel in the bar who went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic.

Amazing opportunity to stay in a real castle with such a rich history. The staff, especially Jon, were outstanding. Everyone was so accommodating. It seems like they have been making constant improvements to the property. The spa closes early (6p) and several amenities in the spa were out of order. Be aware that the archery and falconry, although on the property, are run by a separate company, closes at 5p, and requires a reservation. The remote location is beautiful and quiet, but be aware that getting a rideshare car is nearly impossible. The taxi company they use is very reasonable, but getting back to Dalhousie from Rosslyn Chapel was nearly $50 (I think due to the remote location). Great event for small parties/weddings. The dungeon dinner was fantastic, but be aware there is only one option (chef’s 7-course) that was $125 per person with no separate option for kids (more expansive, cheaper options at the other on-site restaurant, the Orangery). The complimentary breakfast was also delicious, made to order + continental. If we ever come back to Scotland, I’d come again despite checking staying in a castle off my bucket list.

This property was unique in that it is a castle outside of the city. It was an adventure to stay in an actual castle that once belonged to the Ramsay’s - our ancestors. It could use a bit of upgrading, perhaps a lift or staff to assist with luggage, and perhaps a gift shop? All in all it was an amazing experience!

We enjoyed staying in an actual Scottish castle. The castle offered a nice base to explore Edinburgh (30 minute drive). You will not have the same conveniences of a modern hotel such as air conditioning but overall it has been great. The fine dining dungeon restaurant offers a unique atmosphere though the food was not to our taste. We much preferred the Orangery the more casual restaurant on site.

Obviously beautiful outside, we stayed in the Mary Queen of Scott’s suite. It was the last night of our honeymoon and we shared that prior to arrival with the staff… so we were pretty disappointed that no effort was make to help make it special. Dinner was grossly expensive and honestly not exceptional to justify it.

This is the real castle deal! We were thrilled be allocated room 4 in the large turret of the castle. A red four postered bed themed room with all the glory of days gone by. The bathroom was located down a narrow hallway near the door to the room and that made for some fun too! It felt really special! The ghost of Lady Catherine sadly didn't visit us and we slept like babies. Dinner in the dungeon was sensational and drinks before and after in the lounge rounded off the night. Brekkie was fab and the staff were super helpful from go to woah! Now that's a castle stay!

We are 2 couples who chose this beautiful castle hotel, equidistant between our homes, for 1 night to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversaries. First impression was favourable, then we were led to our rooms. So disappointed with the basement location & tired decor. Dungeon dining experience wasnt what we expected having seen different options on the hotel website just 2 nights before arriving. Food was tasty, but scant. Breakfast was very disorganised. Loved the history and castle itself however, being a 4star hotel it’s service is lacking. We stayed at a few other 4 and 5 star castles during our stay in Scotland and this hotel drastically failed in comparison. First, it would have been nice to actually be shown to our room instead on told where to find them. We had dinner in the dungeon and while the food was really good again the service was lacking. We were never asked if we would like drinks (other tables were being served) our food was dropped off and no one would check on us. The staff could be trained on proper ways to place food and clear tables. They would reach in front of in person to get to another to hand food and when clearing the table would stack up all the dishes right in front of us instead of clearing a few plates at a time (the girl clearing had a cold or something and would sniff up snot each time she reached around us to clear). When we went to have breakfast the floor and chairs were dirty even though we were one of the first people there. The food we got at breakfast was not good and two people got their food and were finished eating before the other two received theirs even though it was the same orders. It was just disappointing when you are spending that much money on an experience that is supposed to make you feel spoiled.

The location is far above average. We had a small tower room with a beautiful view of the countryside. We then decided to dine there in the evening. The food was wonderful and the service was very charming. Breakfast in the winter garden was good but average. The service was also not really appropriate for the place and rather careless. Maybe it was not the best day for waitress.

We loved this beautiful castle. It was a wonderful stay. We stayed in the lodge. We had a spacious suite. The communication was excellent. The food in the Dungeon was delicious.

I really wish I could give Dalhousie Castle five stars. It is an absolutely beautiful and unique place, and the staff were wonderful throughout our stay. Everyone was incredibly kind and did their best to make us feel welcome. We were treated to a whisky tasting and had flowers and champagne waiting for us in our room, which were lovely touches and made us feel very well looked after. Unfortunately, there were several things beyond that which affected the overall experience. The spa was closed for renovation, the restaurant we had been looking forward to was closed, and the Superior room we had booked and prepaid was unavailable, so we had to stay in a lower category room. The staff handled the situation with kindness and we were promised £200 compensation for the room downgrade. Unfortunately, after returning home I eventually had to go through Hotels.com to receive the promised compensation. The staff really were the highlight of our stay and I cannot say enough good things about how friendly and helpful they were. At the same time, the hotel sometimes felt quite stressed and understaffed, which was a shame because Dalhousie Castle itself has so much charm and potential. Despite the issues, we still have some very fond memories from our stay and would love to return one day when the spa and restaurant are open and experience Dalhousie Castle at its best.

God service og ophold. Servering i kælderen og i restauranten var langsom og ofte var personalet væk længe så vin og servering var langsom. Vi brugte mere end 3 timer i kælderen og der var ca 8 borde aktive da vi ankom. Samme dagen efter, her bestilte vi kun hovedret og det tog 1 time, igen her var heller ikke fyldt, så lidt øv, men Ellers fin overnatning og hotel med god beliggenhed.

Amazing place, wonderful staff. Don’t eat in the dungeon restaurant unless you are prepared to spend over 3 hours and 120 pounds each sampling very weird and unpalatable food. We had to leave half way through to get my diabetic daughter some actual food. The manager sent a tray to our room. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay.

We rented the castle suite and had a lovely time! The staff is superfriendly and service minded. We took a taxi to the airport, around 50 pounds. Everything was great, we dine at the Ramsay resturant, it was very nice. Really amazing, the place is very beautiful and peaceful, i would definetly recomend staying here.
