Good location right next to Piece Hall but this really is very basic accommodation. Car parking not clear despite being given a map so we ended up paying more for parking than via the hotel. No facilities so it is just a bed for the night. Room was dated and clean enough but the hallways were grubby nd needed a damn good vacuum clean.

Free parking was £5 no bar no kitchen and just not good

Good location, friendly staff. However, the room was small and in desperate need of an upgrade. The toiletries were minimal, a small soap and a small shampoo. There wasn’t a lift, so luggage had to be carried up the stairs.

Didn’t like advising they had a bar and restaurant which was closed you should not have to pay £100 deposit on arrival

Good location close to the railway station and within walking distance of all amenities. Nice room, comfortable bed and tea and coffee making facilities. The shower was good and toiletries were provided but there wasn’t a mirror in the bathroom which made shaving a bit difficult but this may be due to the hotel undergoing a refurbishment. The breakfast was reasonably priced and there was plenty of it. We were on the third floor and there wasn’t a lift which wasn’t an issue but it could be for some. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Budget accommodation room was clean but a little scruffy, bathroom not in the best condition sink was coming away from the wall, shower head leaked. No bar or restaurant, great location right next to The Piece Hall.

Whilst the property is handy for the town features it is inconvenient in having no elevators and small rooms. We had to change rooms due to faulty shower which could not be fixed. Staff were helpful., but much will need to be done to make this an acceptable. Property

I've given 4 stars overall because the hotel was as we expected. The interior was very old and dated and is in much need of an upgrade but we booked the hotel knowing this, and did so for its location (perfect for an event at The Piece Hall), knowing it would be dated. The room was functional but could have been cleaner with dust and a bit of dirt in the less commonly used places. The bedding and bathroom were clean. Again, the bathroom is dated but functional with hot water and clean towels but don't expect a rainfall shower. There's a kettle for tea and coffee making, which was a nicer touch. There was no lift, which was fine by us but may not suit everyone. Parking wasn't the easiest to find as the post code on the website took us to a different car park but we called reception and the staff gave directions to the right one, which was free. All staff I encountered were helpful. They did ask for the £100 deposit at reception, although I was only aware they might ask because of reviews I had read. The staff on reception seemed to expect people to turn up unaware of the deposit. Overall, we booked this place for its location and expected a basic room, which is what we got. If you turn up expecting luxury, you will be disappointed but if you need a basic room for a night or two then this could be the right place.

Our stay was for two nights and was OK. Quite nice breakfast and good location from Rail Station. Very helpful staff. Only problem was there is no lift and quite a lot of stairs to our room. We would return again.

Great location, but the rooms/building in general could do with some updating, and our bathroom wasn't very clean.

Very basic hotel. Needs fully renovating. Bed was comfortable but had blood stain on mattress topper! Just passable for one night.

Check in took 40 minutes, they then took £100 deposit for a room that isn’t even worth that, all the sides were dusty, carpets were dirty and the Lino in the bathroom was yellow, I personally wouldn’t stay here again 😔

Staff pleasant, rooms very clean.

Simply awful. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Room was small, shabby, not very clean, outdated. Shall I go on? Yes- no toilet paper, 1 towel for a couple, the smoke detector had no cover with all the wiring exposed in bathroom, tiles not grouted. Really surprised hotels like this are still around.

Very Disappointing Stay. The hotel has seen better days. The staff were unhelpful, didn't explain where room was and when asking about breakfast, stated to leave the hotel and walk past Burger King to look for somewhere! The corridors to the room were filthy, both the walls and carpets. There was a bin bag left in the corridor all the time of our stay!! In the room, there was filthy grout and cracked tiles in the bathroom as well a faeces left in the toilet. The complimentary shampoo was used and the carpet between the bedroom/bathroom was unsafe and frayed. There was previous guests socks partly under the bed and it was obvious the room had not been cleaned other than new towels and a made bed! The shower went between cold and red hot without any warning which was another safety issue. All in all, a very poor hotel with no breakfast option or even the option to get a bottle of water from reception. This is a terrible hotel which has seen its best days many many years ago?!! I would definitely avoid, especially for £84.00 per night!!

My room smelt damp and musty. The carpet didn't feel clean and the furniture was very basic.

The hotel was was significantly overpriced for the standard offered. The room was very small for a double, it was difficult to get to one of the windows as there was not enough room to get round the bed. The standard of decor was poor in the room, damaged wall where something had clearly been removed and the wall covering not repaired. The carpets on the upper floors were filthy. The ground floor had been refurbished but was uninspiring. The bar staff seemed very inexperienced, not knowing how to serve basic drinks. The bar was poorly stocked and some people just gave up and went to their rooms to drink due to the absence of basic supplies (e.g. no white wine). People who had waited in the lobby for quite a while were told at 3 p.m. that their rooms were not ready. Reception was not manned until 3 p.m. on the dot so nobody was warned that their room might not be ready. In a good hotel the receptionist will allow people to check in early if the room is ready but this was not an option here even though they could see the number of people waiting. You got the impression that none of the staff had worked in a hotel before.

Stayed one night following opening after “refurbishment”. We’re appalled at the state of the hotel and the room offered. Appears that the only refurbishment was the reception area which was obviously unfinished. Stairways and corridors have not been touched and are dirty/tired looking. The room was dirty, cobwebs on all walls, stained carpets, dirty and grubby bathroom which has been untouched in years. Shower curtain strung on a loose wire, shower tabs which didn’t work and loose sink fitments as well as dirty and damaged grouting. The window sill was badly damaged and rotten. In the bedroom area the window overlooked air conditioning and ventilation ducking plus a brick wall. Light fitments were dangerously hanging off the wall. The mattress was old and lumpy. All this for £90 per night was very poor value along with no bar, public toilet and restaurant, although with the standard shown throughout, wouldn’t have used these anyway.

Comfortable bed,also clean. Bedroom rather stuffy. No lift. Near the railway station, which was useful for us.

Grim tiny room queen size bed with 1940s furniture one tiny window

My room was dirty with tea and coffee stains dripping down the cupboard. Shower and bath very tired and full of mould. Couldn’t sleep due to the room being directly above an extremely noisy taxi rank office with staff playing loud music and drivers chatting loudly abs slamming doors of cars. This was by far the worst stay I have had in paying accommodation and will definitely never be returning to the Imperial Crown Hotel and would strongly advise other people to stay away from the place. Extremely disappointed with the whole experience.

It was a fifty pound room for £135 and no breakfast included in that price. Basic, tired, small badly in need of a new carpet a lick of paint. very poor standard not only that had the audacity to request a £100 aecurity deposit. Nothing in that room was worth a £100. not impressed for the money the only good thing is the locality for Piece Hall

Excellent location for train station and the piece hall. Guy on reception could of give more information on where to find bar and restaurant and whether you could of added breakfast, as forgot to book for that. We ate out instead. As it was on a busy road the traffic was very noisy during the night.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was great, right outside the station and next to the Piece Hall. Unfortunately the hotel is not equipped for heatwaves. At any other time, I'm sure a stay would be adequate. On this occasion, the room was unpleasant due to the heat. A fan was provided, but did not make a lot of difference.

Hotel is what it is. It’s a great location if going to piece hall (we were for a concert) close to train station and centre. It’s a no frills kind of hotel. It did the job, room was dated but comfortable enough for a night.

This hotel literally could not be closer to the Piece Hall, which is amazing. The bed was so comfortable, we had a great stay.

The hotel is ok but the room was a bit run down and was very very warm. There's a fan which helped a little but the temperature remaind high through the night. Rooms need a little TLC and smoke detectors installing. The location was fantastic though!

Good hotel for the price .staff really friendly and polite . Had an issue with noise from a horrible guest , but the hotel staff dealt with it so no complaints. Would stay again

Pre booked and pre paid more than 4 months from date of travel. Not impressed when checking in, informed that an additional £100 needed to be authorized from my card which would be returned after room inspection on day of departure! Obviously no trust in the customer and I having staying in numerous hotels never experienced this before. Surely the hotel should have made this clear before a booking was taken. Later that evening, I discovered there was no heating in the room as the radiator was not working even though I was experiencing noisy pipes heating the rest of the hotel! Out for much of the following day, only returning late in day so didn't bring it to the hotels attention thinking they were not aware of the problem. However, on day of departure, when I had to request the receptionist to check my room in order to retrieve the extra £100 paid under protest, she was surprised I was in the room allocated. This was as she knew there was no heating and therefore I should not have been allocated it in the first place!! It seems to me there is a communication problem among staff to the detriment of the customer. On the positive front, bed was very comfortable and praise for the TV as unlike most hotels, provided all Freeview channels and Internet channels including You Tube.

The hotel is basic, a little tired, but fine. The real issue is that they demanded a 'deposit' of £100 per room in case of damage. This had not been mentioned before and, as I had booked five rooms for a group, they wanted £500 off me. They said I would get it back after the rooms were inspected but it's a lot of money to be expected to lend them for a few days.

Having to pay a refundable deposit of £100 per room. Although I booked and paid for two twin rooms, the deposit was requested when we arrived. I paid the deposit for one of the rooms, one of my travelling companions for the other, in cash and each of us signed for the payment. But when we left, two of my companions needed to catch a train but were t allowed to have their deposit returned until someone had gone and checked both rooms at the same time. The delay meant that they had to catch a later train which was unfortunate. But the beds were very comfortable and the staff in the main were very good.

No refund tried to change my booking to another date. Was a flat out refusal. Terrible customer service!

Such a shame this could be a beautiful hotel as the location is perfect . On arrival there was a wait to be checked in. The room was big and spacious BUT carpets warn , old furniture , a blind with no cord on so had to wind it by hand. No shower gel a tiny tiny block of soap and the sink tap nearly coming off, dirty bedding I paid £270 for one night and to be honest I’d seen it in May for £58 which would have been about right . Again perfect location for piece hall and over the road from the train station We met locals who asked us where we were staying and before we could say they said your not in the imperial crown are you , I booked this for a gift for my brother as well as me and my husband and feel like I was robbed was certainly not worth £270 ! Please lower your prices until you have tidied the rooms up and make some improvements

I love stopping here. Its less than a 2 minute from the train station and the Peice Hall, and a 3 minute walk to the shops and bus station. The staff are lovely.. The rooms are comfortable. Nothing flashy as reflected in the orices

Perfect for visiting the Piece Hall. Staff friendly. Hotel very tired & only one member of staff running breakfast & the front desk.

We were at a concert at Piece Hall which is mire or less next door. This is an ideal place to stay and has car parking ver close by. The staff were friendly and there is a bar.

Cooked Breakfast was good . We stayed as going to a concert ideal location however hotel rooms dated . wallpaper coming down on the ceiling . Shower leaked over the floor . Toilet didn’t flush properly. Bed was big but uncomfortable . No top up on coffee in the room had to ask a member of staff

20yards form the best entrance to Piece Hall for a gig (nearest the stage and the quieter bar - result!) extra £5 for parking is OK. Room not yet refurbished - very tatty but clean, comfy bed, hot shower and big new telly. Room only - no bar ro breakfast at the moment. OK value for £75

Location was perfect. Just yards away from the gig venue. Car park very close by. Very friendly staff. Stored our bags for us as we arrived too early to check in. Took £100 room deposit. Room very tired really..In need of renovation. For price of room not sure it was good value for money. Very hot weather and no fan or A/C Bed ok, pillows not good quality.. Only one towel in the room on arrival. Shower good and powerful Very good freshly cooked breakfast..
