Over all good, friendly staff, clean room, room view not too good

Historic hotel in a wonderful location. A bit tired but comfortable.

Well let’s just say the grand hotel is not so grand any more!! Very poorly maintained. Dirty rooms. Don’t mind outdated but dirty is not for me. Shame as it could be such a lovely hotel and was once back in the day ! Unfortunately the owners have now let it go too far and it’s just a mess! Staff don’t really seem that interested in helping with any issues. Checked out after one night and moved hotels! The lily on the west shore was absolutely beautiful! Would definitely recommend the lily! Never ever stay at the grand again! Beware people I understand for cheap you don’t expect a lot but cleanliness isn’t about to ask for!

The hotel is extremely run down, we stayed 3 nights and our towels and bedding wasn't changed once. The staff were very helpful and the food was ok. Also when we stayed we had to park over 1 mile away as there's no on site parking. The location is great but beware even though we booked a sea view and the picture showed a balcony we only had a small window to look out of.

I have stayed here a few times over the years and yes it’s never been the best place to stay. As they say you get what you pay for. So I thought after hearing about the multi million refurb I would give it another try. Yes the the reception area and main bar had new carpets and furniture and look good. I had room 317 (standard room) it should be recessed as bog standard with sea view. The phrase that you can’t polish a turd came to mind. If a lick of paint and new carpet is a refurb god knows what the other rooms look like. Bathroom door that won’t close without a push rusty radiator just painted over not even bothered to scrape the old paint off. The main bar closed at 7.30pm leaving only the ballroom bar open. So if you wanted a drink you had to go down stairs and bring it up to the main bar if you weren’t interested with what was going on down there. This was not very convenient for people with mobility issues of which there was plenty and moaning but nothing being done. As for the food not the best. Cheap and cheerful evening meal not much choice. Breakfast hard fried eggs well over cooked bacon and sausages which they just kept topping up by throwing the fresh out of the kitchen on top of the older food on the Buffett breakfast. No rotation whatsoever. No point in just refurbishing the structure of the hotel if you going to keep the same management and staff as nothing will ever improve on the hospitality side of things. Will I be staying here again. Definitely not.
