This is a beautiful place to stay and I can imagine in the summer the gardens will be wonderful. Our room was very quiet but it did get really warm, so I can understand why there was a fan in the room. The staff were very friendly. We used the gym and pool area too - the gym was very well stocked with lots of machines, however I do wonder how often it's cleaned/serviced because some of the machines definitely needed it. The pool was great, as were the sauna and steam room, but I can imagine it getting quite busy in there (luckily we went on a Monday afternoon and it was quiet). The breakfast was buffet style with lots of choices of things to eat, and the staff were always keeping an eye on what needed topping up etc. We would definitely stay here again. Perfectly located because you are in the middle of nowhere so it's very peaceful, but close enough to drive to plenty of places around the three counties/London.

The hotel was perfect in every way. Only down side was sanua and steamroom is very small. The spa was very busy and had waiting times to use them. The pool was cold and mucky. Too many kids there to fully relax. But all in all was a lovley stay The hotel room was lovley the king size bed is a must. Only down side was the rodes only come in one size, being 6ft2 and 17st no way that was fitting me. The breakfast was nice, as there was a full range of foods to choose. Definitely would stay again 8/10

Likes- Original building and surroundings. Room. Food was good. Facilities. Not so liked. - Poor communication prior to arrival, multiple messages sent, zero replies. - A Spa should be a quiet sanctuary for adults, but from 9-10am and 4-6pm it turns into a council leisure centre for hyped up children. That spoiled the stay for us, as we had to wait all day to actually use the Spa (by the time we checked in and got settled in the room there was no point using the Spa as the kids were going to pile in at 4pm). No one told us that before arrival or at check in. THAT IS NOT A PROPER SPA! Then you have dinner, and after that who can go to a Spa! I was all set to recommend family members to stay but there’s no way they would enjoy that. If I’d paid for a Spa package I’d have been livid! Lots to enjoy about the place but having screaming kids and the so many people in the small Spa area is not for me. - The food was really nice but the menu was extremely limited for Coeliac sufferers. I’d recommend eating out at local pubs and restaurants, there’s a lot more on offer.

Brilliant stay. The hotel and grounds are lovely. When we arrived at the room we had an issue in that the flush was broken and could not be fixed. The staff were incredibly helpful and moved us to an upgraded room. The onsite restaurant is lane and well furnished; the food is generally good. The gym is very good and well equipped; and the sauna/pool are nice. Will definitely think about returning here for another stay!

Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Enjoyed the spa but feel there are not enough changing rooms for busier sessions. Meal in restaurant was tasty. Staff were polite, professional and helpful. Would be happy to stay again if we are ever in that area.

Great stay as usual, only issue is that our room didn’t have any air con, so we found ourselves quite hot at times. The sauna and steam area was also abit dirty with hair and muck on the floor. Apart from this, the room was cosy.

Great location, and very friendly staff. However, there were a few things that werent ideal, such as: cobwes in the room, half cleaning/tidying thr room - having waited all day for the room to be cleaned, hallway/ corridor filled with dirty sheets and towels from about 8am to 6pm.

First room was freezing cold and filthy. Also not at all like the pictures on the website, very dated. Radiators had been turned off. I took photo's of all of the dust, cobwebs, dead insects and the filthy carpet. Hairs on the sheets. Turning on the radiators triggered the fire alarm! Several fire alarms later ( and having to stand outside in the cold) they decided to move me to another room. Much better decor, but sadly still the poor housekeeping standards. More photo's taken of dead insects, dust and....when I unrolled the saftey bath mat, brown water poured out and it stank and was stained. The lack of basic cleanliness put me off going to the spa, so I have no idea how good or bad that is. The bed was very comfortable, though. One of the reception team was nice - other people on that team need to up their game as their attitude was borderline rude. Also had to cope with drunken guests shouting until 3.a.m. in the morning! I was exhausted, which ruined my weekend as I had booked tickets to a local event the following day. You'd have to pay me to go back there. Certainly NOT a relaxing country house/spa hotel. Nowhere near 4* standard of housekeeping ( or decor in the 1st room) Ironically, there must be a septic tank or similar somewhere close to the entrance - so you are welcomed by the smell of its contents as you turn towards the hotel. Despite the beautiful tree lined entrance, it stinks! Sums the place up in my opinion!

I have been to the property before the renovations and loved it so much we went back after the renovations. The reception area has moved as it was before to through the lovely archway front door and now it’s to the side of the building. Greeted by Reception and waited for our room to be ready. Once we got in it felt the renovations was not up to standards and felt still on the old side. The bathroom was in a state and had hairs on the shower tiles, mirror has smudges on it and the toilet roll was so dusty it was on top black. I did call Reception for the Housekeeping to come in and clean this area again which they did promptly but this should not of happened. It was our anniversary and a card was given but could have gone the extra mile.

Really nice 48 hours at Horwood House, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming - we have a young child so we were keen to make sure that we got two rooms that were conjoining, which they dealt with superbly. The rooms were big and comfortable, and the grounds were beautiful. Was great to get out and walk around on a beautiful day. The food was good, with prices being comparable to most hotel restaurants. Good, friendly service. The gym was a little disapointing - just a small room tucked away, but the pool and the spa facilities were great. Next time we visit the area, we'd re-book

I was quite disappointed with this hotel. I booked an executive suite for myself, husband and 3 year old. It was very small, carpet was very old and dirty, no tv in the bedroom and the th tht was in the lounge had no smart capabilities (no apps or ability to cast from our own devices). We wanted to take a toddler swimming but is no prior information provided about splash sessions for children (one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening). If I had if know about this restriction we won’t have booked the hotel). We were the only customers in the restaurant with 5 members of staff visible but we had to wait over 45 minutes for our meal. The rooms and corridors are very confusing with contradictory signage, it took 20 minutes to find our room, we were wondering corridors with heavy luggage and a toddler.

We wanted to take a toddler swimming but is no prior information provided about splash sessions for children (one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening). If I had if know about this restriction we won’t have booked the hotel). We were the only customers in the restaurant with 5 members of staff visible but we had to wait over 45 minutes for our meal. The rooms and corridors are very confusing with contradictory signage, it took 20 minutes to find our room, we were wondering corridors with heavy luggage and a toddler.

Overall the stay was disappointing. For the price we paid for a Stable King for one night, we were definitely overcharged. The room was extremely basic and small. One of the windows didn't close from the inside so my husband had to go outside and push it closed from there. When we woke up in the morning they were dripping in condensation. There were zero nice touches in the room. The only thing that saved the day was the restaurant on site. The food was excellent. Overall the service was good, however, we were sat in the bar having a late afternoon drink and we overheard a manager almost shouting at one of the restaurant staff because he had allowed a couple to book a table at 9:30. Apparently that was wrong but for her to berate him in front of hotel guests was disgusting behaviour. I'm afraid we won't be returning.

The Hotel itself is really lovely, very modern and bright and well maintained. Check in was ok, we were there for a Gig at the Bowl so it was quite busy, however we were disappointed that our rooms still weren't ready at 3.45 pm and as we were short on time it meant we were then rushed to eat and get going. The lady checking us in was really helpful and friendly though. Harry's Bar is really nice and the garden area pleasant, food was just ok but quite pricey for what you got. We were upgraded to executive suites which was a nice touch and the rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was particularly lovely, however it was a shame they don't have air con, it was such a hot day and the fan provided didn't really do much. Disappointed to find upon our return from the gig, there was no bar available for an night cap, you couldn't even order room service which is really poor for a Hotel and something I've not encountered before. We'd had such a long tiring wait for a taxi back, it would have been nice to sit down and enjoy a drink before going to bed. Breakfast was really good, with plenty of choice and produce was fresh and tasty. Staff were very helpful when it came to making my hubby a herbal tea and providing me with GF toast. Overall a nice stay and i would recommend the Hotel.

Couldn’t access room until 4.15pm no apology or offer of a drink whilst waiting Evening meal - steak sent back twice as very undercooked and bloody. Had really no choice but to choose an alternative dish. First room was freezing cold and filthy. Also not at all like the pictures on the website, very dated. Radiators had been turned off. I took photo's of all of the dust, cobwebs, dead insects and the filthy carpet. Hairs on the sheets. Turning on the radiators triggered the fire alarm! Several fire alarms later ( and having to stand outside in the cold) they decided to move me to another room. Much better decor, but sadly still the poor housekeeping standards. More photo's taken of dead insects, dust and....when I unrolled the saftey bath mat, brown water poured out and it stank and was stained. The lack of basic cleanliness put me off going to the spa, so I have no idea how good or bad that is. The bed was very comfortable, though. One of the reception team was nice - other people on that team need to up their game as their attitude was borderline rude. Also had to cope with drunken guests shouting until 3.a.m. in the morning! I was exhausted, which ruined my weekend as I had booked tickets to a local event the following day. You'd have to pay me to go back there. Certainly NOT a relaxing country house/spa hotel. Nowhere near 4* standard of housekeeping ( or decor in the 1st room) Ironically, there must be a septic tank or similar somewhere close to the entrance - so you are welcomed by the smell of its contents as you turn towards the hotel. Despite the beautiful tree lined entrance, it stinks! Sums the place up in my opinion!

If you want a good night sleep, do not stay at this hotel. It’s a wedding venue, and there were drunk people in the corridors well after midnight. The staff did nothing to keep them quiet.

This is a beautiful place to stay and I can imagine in the summer the gardens will be wonderful. Our room was very quiet but it did get really warm, so I can understand why there was a fan in the room. The staff were very friendly. We used the gym and pool area too - the gym was very well stocked with lots of machines, however I do wonder how often it's cleaned/serviced because some of the machines definitely needed it. The pool was great, as were the sauna and steam room, but I can imagine it getting quite busy in there (luckily we went on a Monday afternoon and it was quiet). The breakfast was buffet style with lots of choices of things to eat, and the staff were always keeping an eye on what needed topping up etc. We would definitely stay here again. Perfectly located because you are in the middle of nowhere so it's very peaceful, but close enough to drive to plenty of places around the three counties/London.

Peacefully. Was busy and they seemed overwhelmed. Restaurant and bar was slow in service. I didn't mind as was on a go slow stay. Staff did admit that it was unusually busy for a Tuesday. Really liked the room and spa treatments. Staff were very affable.

The hotel is very nice. The food in Harry's was lovely and very good value for money. My only complaint would be the breakfast. The food was nice, however the serving station was obviously not big enough for the number of people staying as it was constantly running out of items leaving people waiting and their breakfasts getting cold, as was mine. The area where the toaster and drinks machine is very badly set up, causing a constant bottleneck, with no orderly queue. I think the serving areas just isn't big enough particularly when tables are placed in walk ways, right next to the serving area.

I went to this hotel with my cavapoo doggy and we had a great stay in a suite room on the ground floor with a nice patio. It was a super dog friendly hotel with amazing grounds for the dog and I to explore. The staff were so helpful and even though the blind in the room was faulty and the safe wasn’t working initially, the staff came to sort things out pretty much immediately and it felt like the staff wanted to help and that we mattered as guests. There was a dog bowl and dog bed ready and the breakfast was also really good value. The place was excellent value for money. There was even a giant fan in the room and the bathroom was like that of a 5 star hotel. I would go back again with the dog.

Unfortunately this property is a wedding and party venue in summer and not really suitable for couples in the summer season. Place felt quite badly neglected and there were not enough staff to manages the crowds that descended on the hotel this weekens. Rooms are worse than Premier Inns and cost twice as much, labelling it as a spa destination would be stretching the description quite far. Its a perfect family wedding and party venue best suited to large parties celebrating life events. Staff were brilliant and managing as best as they could but its more akin to a 3 star and I would have paid not more than £130 for our room never mind £235! Food is atandard UK mass catering pub pub, mostly deep fried, however, there are a few tasty gems on the starters menu. On the positive side the hotel is truly dog friendly and you can roam all over the hotel and restaurants with your pooch. Would I go back, maybe, would I pay £235 for a super heated room in an outhouse, hell no!

Its a perfect family wedding and party venue best suited to large parties celebrating life events. Staff were brilliant and managing as best as they could but its more akin to a 3 star and I would have paid not more than £130 for our room never mind £235! Food is atandard UK mass catering pub pub, mostly deep fried, however, there are a few tasty gems on the starters menu. On the positive side the hotel is truly dog friendly and you can roam all over the hotel and restaurants with your pooch. Would I go back, maybe, would I pay £235 for a super heated room in an outhouse, hell no!
