The property is very large with a beautiful pool area. It was also nice to have a gym. Staff were excellent, we did the night walk and saw some amazing sights.

If you stay at this hotel, you will have the access to some of the tours reserved exclusively to those who stay at the hotel but not people from outside hotels. We were able to have tour guides just for the two of us during a day walk and the zip line. Also there will be shuttles that pick you up in front of where you stay to take you to the tours, which are inside the hotel, in a few minutes. It is super convenient and I highly recommend. There is also a spa place inside the resort.

The resort is very good with lot of in-house activities and tour desk to organize local attractions. But property has no elevator and AC. Though the outside breeze is good enough but at time it can become very hot during the day. Need atleast a ceiling fan and brighter lights in the room. Room is big with nice canopy view. Restaurant has limited menu choices esp. for vegetarians. Friendly staff and well maintained resort with complimentary breakfast and free parking. Provides free shuttle to go inside the property. Overall good experience except the inconveniences mentioned.

A very nice no frills resort property. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Mediocre breakfast you'd get at any Holiday Inn. Don't bother with the spa. The massage therapists were less than mediocre, as though they had been trained on YouTube and not watched all of the videos. Also, the pool is only accessible by car or extended hike up the mountain and clearly a box checker. They would have been better to not have one at all.

A great location near downtown while staying in the middle of nature. The property is full of wildlife and all of the staff is super helpful. Breakfast is delicious and definitely recommend the banana bread! Austin the bartender is great, we visited him for a few happy hours. While you’re there check out the spa and excellent way to recover from zip lining! The property was larger than expected so we were thankful for the shuttle to get us around. One flag is that there was no AC in the hotel rooms but at night it cooled off.

El Establo is in great location with it own private hiking trails at an addition cost. Great views from the rooms. Access to you room building is via their shuttle buses so at times there can be upto 20 minutes. The roads going upto the buildings is very steep .Great workout if you are in good shape. Buildings have two floor with no elevators which can be difficult if you are traveling with elderly family as we were. Make sure you let hotel know prior to arrival you need ground floors. Bathrooms are dated but in good condition, and there is heating or AC in the hotel.Very basic toiletries are provided. No iron on property let alone the rooms. Breakfast is not the best if you are a vegan or vegetarain and buffet items are not labeled. We had a family medical emergency in the middle of the night and the one staff member on duty was very helpful.

The hotel is over a large area, fortunately we were located near reception and the breakfast area. There are shuttles on demand that take you to the other areas of the resort such as the pool, restaurant and canopy/night tours. The food at the restaurant was excellent. we found the breakfast buffet to be average, with the exception of the made to order omelettes which were excellent too. Monteverde is much cooler than the rest of Costa Rica so provided some rest-bite from the heat for a few days. The excursions at the hotel and surrounding area are the main attraction as the small town was quiet.

It is a huge property with everything you need. Shuttle service was excellent. Activities could be arranged at the property. Breakfast was brilliant. Lighting in the room was poor and room was outdated. Staff was great. However, waiter service at the restaurant was very poor for an empty restaurant.

The good: -Large room -Large bathroom -Very clean -Refrigerator in room very useful -Ample parking in each building next to rooms, restaurants, etc. Needs improvement: -Poor sealing of doors and windows so noise from cars, other guests and the smell of gasoline from grass cutting filtered into the room -The bed made a creak as if it were going to break. Quite annoying to sleep on. -Poor quality TV -Quality and quantity of food vs price at Laggus restaurant was hard to justify. We stayed at this property for two nights. On our first night as we were getting ready for bed we started seeing bugs appear inside the room which as we got close we realized they were wasps. It from 2-5 wasps to like more than 30 inside the room. We had our 2 year toddler. We called the front desk multiple times but there was no answer because they were closed. We also called the after hours line and there was no answer. We ended up having to grab a mattress and somehow squeeze it in the bathroom where we spent the night with our 2 year old. It wasn’t until the next morning when they helped us changed rooms that we realized there was no screen for the window and it was how the wasps got in. We complained to the front desk about our terrible experience and how this was their fault because there was no screen on the small window as there was in the new room we got transferred to. The customer service we received was horrible. They didn’t seem to care or feel bad about our experience. We asked for a refund for the one night and got no where. No one helped us and they did not offer us any services to at least try to offset the horrible experience. Very disappointing with how this issue was handled. As it seemed they just pretended they were going to do something about our refund but never did. Never did we get an answer from any manager or staff. Would not stay here again.

Nice, big , clean room. Shuttle service to and from reception area was very good and convenient as the walk would be stressful on knees , especially if you have knee issues. Entrance is convenient to get to from the main road (paved road) as opposed to other hotels in the area where road to the entrance from main road is not paved. Good nearby dining options.

Absolutely gorgeous property, landscaping and gardening. Beautiful grounds and pool. However, the rooms we had and buildings really need renovation and updating. Our carpet was stained and torn. The windows need replacing. The worst part was the bugs. We found multiple on the beds. We made the most of it and enjoyed it but a cockroach running away from the bed frame before I laid down was tough. The problem is they leave the hallways open to the environment, which is fine, but then the rooms have plenty of gaps for bugs to enter. This may be no big deal for most people and, if so, this place will be amazing for you. The bugs just make it hard for us to be comfortable. If they could do some renovations and fix the big problem, it would be the best place in Monteverde. Again, so charming outside and everywhere else. The breakfast was also good.

The room we booked showed a beautiful view and a balcony and the room we were given was a ground floor with no view and no balcony. The hotel has no A/C and travelers should be aware. We could hear the other rooms talking. The staff offered no luggage assistance although they knew the room required we carry the luggage down several flights of stairs, The reception staff stated that we should have emailed them and requested a better view and balcony. I would not return to the property.

No wifi on all the hotel. Been down for a while it seems because the access points are not even online at all. Also Monteverde averiguare teneorsturrs are like 2 degrees centigrade higher than previous years and this hotel with their 100 has no air conditioning or even ceiling fans on the rooms. Extremely hot during the day, you can open the balcony door if you want bugs (not even a screen door). TV signal has been divided into so many rooms and humdinger without proper equipment and boosters that all channels are grainy or fuzzy. Smart tvs with no wired Internet btw. They got EV chargers at the entrance of the hotel instead of having then on the guest parking lots for each buildings where the cars sleep through the night (or at least some 240v outlets). In the end got the room for the same price, with no internet, no ac or fans, crappy tv signal. Summary: overpriced for the amenities, guess they don’t want to invest on making the rooms better.

We had really pleasant stay. The grounds the hotel is set in amazing. All the rooms seem to have great views across the valley, with nature being so close. Only criticism is the acoustics, the rooms echoed. I love to go back again.

The property is literally on a mountain which gives a great experirnce and opportunity to spot some mammals in the backyard of your room. The room which we were in had issue with the shower and also hot water was limited. If one takes long shower we had to wsit for hours to again get hot water.

The room we booked showed a beautiful view and a balcony and the room we were given was a ground floor with no view and no balcony. The hotel has no A/C and travelers should be aware. We could hear the other rooms talking. The staff offered no luggage assistance although they knew the room required we carry the luggage down several flights of stairs, The reception staff stated that we should have emailed them and requested a better view and balcony. I would not return to the property.

They said we had a $25 resort credit, but we could only use it at the restaurant or bar at the pool. So we used it at the pool, but at checkout, they said we owed $25 because we got drinks during happy hour, so the $25 resort credit did not apply to that. No one told us that and the guy at checkout was totally unapologetic. It's not a big deal, because it was only $25, but the rudeness of the staff and lack of clarity about the report credit policy was not appreciated. If you happen to have a resort credit, probably best not to use it or just assume they will find a way to not apply it.

Hotel room was beautiful with a great view. Shuttle was there in seconds of calling to get anywhere on property. A couple minute walk to restaurants off property. Beds were amazing quality. All requests were taken care of promptly. Very great experience. Breakfast buffet had a great selection

Lovely property with fabulous grounds. It is huge but with separate buildings. Only interaction with staff was strange, very distant and kinda creepy interactions at breakfast hall. Tried to book a guide for the park with in-house staff: he essentially lied to us that there was no way to get a tour the following day, that the park was fully booked. Later found out that his company filled all THEIR allotted slots, easily booked with others. Dont judge Costa Rica by this place! It was the Most unfriendly place during our entire month tour.

The grounds at this hotel are lovely, the location is great, and the wildlife that you see on the lawn (specifically Coati) is amazing. Unfortunately, we had issues at check in and the management was completely unresponsive. We were assigned to a room and upon moving in found that there was a leak in the ceiling and the bed was wet. I immediately asked to be moved and it took close to three hours and multiple calls to make it happen. The room they finally put us in was not fully prepared. The next afternoon, our door was opened by a new guest who had been assigned and given keys to our room. I asked to speak with the manager several times and upon departing after three nights, had never heard from him.

They tell you all about how eco friendly they are and how much they care about the environment and yet they still use the little plastic single use shampoo and conditioner bottles as well as the little plastic wrapped bars of soap. Their restaurant staff was absurdly rude. They took over 40 minutes to bring us our overpriced food that was barely room temp when it got to us. It was so obvious that it had been sitting for at least 10-15 minutes. Then one of the dishes we ordered was off; it had some sort of weird bitter smell and taste so we sent it back and they still charged us for it anyway! Terribly uncomfortable beds that were hard as a rock and no climate control of any kind. No heater or AC which ok not an issue really given the location but also no ceiling fans or or table fans either. Those cost almost nothing to install or have available and even less to operate. The way the property is set up, you HAVE to drive your car or take one of their gas shuttles all over the property because it is so spread out and up hill. No sidewalks even if you want to brave the hills.

Very disappointed. Our room had a strange odor and turned out the toilet wasn’t working. Requested it fixed, next day still wasn’t working. Finally requested we change rooms for second night which is a pain and mostly annoyed that zero credit has been given for first night. Response at front desk felt very dismissive and unapologetic. I never leave a bad review anywhere so wouldn’t post if I weren’t truly disappointed with lack of willingness to rectify.

Quiet, beautiful. My kids were able to see agouti, coati, and all sorts of birds from our balcony in the mornings and the staff was very friendly and enthusiastic about teaching them about the animals. One of the restaurants had a great little nature walk below the terrace so the kids had a great time running around while we waited for the food, which was also delicious. The hotel was well located so most of the things we wanted to do in Monteverde were a short drive or even walkable. Would stay here again!

The view from our room was gorgeous. The staff so friendly. Breakfast was conveniently early and good. We had our own car and the property will shuttle you up and down so know that waking between property hot spots (the pool, bar, restaurants) may not be walkable for some.

Overall nice property in a great location. The room is nothing special, but it matches the pictures and is clean. It was a much bigger property than expected. They have their own hikes on property that you can explore. Every room has a view and the sunsets are great.

A great location near downtown while staying in the middle of nature. The property is full of wildlife and all of the staff is super helpful. Breakfast is delicious and definitely recommend the banana bread! Austin the bartender is great, we visited him for a few happy hours. While you’re there check out the spa and excellent way to recover from zip lining! The property was larger than expected so we were thankful for the shuttle to get us around. One flag is that there was no AC in the hotel rooms but at night it cooled off.

We did a night tour right on the Property which was lots of fun and saved us driving to another location ! Had breakfast included, which was an excellent buffet with lots of food Options . Had dinner two nights all the food was excellent and a reasonable price point for what you received.

The scenery in this hotel is excellent! You have to stay here to watch the sunset, night time sky and amazing scenery... all of this from the room itself. The cons are the walls are paper thin. You can hear everything people in other rooms talk. Bath rooms are ok, beds are good. Staff is very helpful and nice. Not many vegan options in the restaurant.

The property is beautiful with nice rooms and great views. But the rooms are a little old-fashioned - for example they have small/key-locked safe boxes instead of modern electronic safes. The hotel is also not particularly convenient as it is built on a very steep slope, meaning that getting around the property is by "shuttle" vans. (Believe me, you will not try walking this more than once - and even then, only downhill.) The ONLY way to request a van is to call reception, and the line is often busy, particularly during busy times, like breakfast. You are on hold and then it arbitrarily cuts you off and you have to call again. I also had TWO very bad experiences with the lunch/dinner restaurant. Two sandwiches, at two different meals, contained foreign/inedible objects. One sandwich included avocado skins (not slices) and I had one sandwich where melted cheese on the sandwich was still attached to the paper in which it was packaged. I was still forced to pay for these sandwiches. All they offered me was a free -- but at that point entirely unwanted - dessert. DO NOT EAT AT THE RESTAURANT. Finally, be aware that the property is very popular with large bus tours, so breakfast is a circus.

The hotel is over a large area, fortunately we were located near reception and the breakfast area. There are shuttles on demand that take you to the other areas of the resort such as the pool, restaurant and canopy/night tours. The food at the restaurant was excellent. we found the breakfast buffet to be average, with the exception of the made to order omelettes which were excellent too. Monteverde is much cooler than the rest of Costa Rica so provided some rest-bite from the heat for a few days. The excursions at the hotel and surrounding area are the main attraction as the small town was quiet.

Had a great view from room and able to see lots of different wildlife - recommend watching sunset and night tour - was disappointed had to pay additional $20 to hike trail at the top of the hill.
