lovely hotel, with excellent facilities. Very extensive gym and pool area. Rooms were comfortable.

We booked the hotel for the swimming pool and sauna We were told on arrival that it was being maintained No other compromise was offered It would have been easier to take off that facility whilst it was not available We would not have wasted our time going there

Disappointing restaurant, quite a few people walking through - a bit of a thoroughfare!. First choice of dish not available. Often had to wait for staff eg in the dining room and the bar, also no gin glasses for G&T

First time staying here as my usual hotel was full. Lovely food a great gym and the added bonus of a pool steam room and sauna - exceeded my expectations and will be staying again

Stayed over for a wedding. Receptionist on entry very professional and friendly, different one on leaving - was all over the place. Bathroom great but rooms are dated and need modernisation Spa area needs some TLC - slats broken in sauna, H&S hazard

Clean and simple. Nice spa inc but the jacuzzi could have done with bring a tad warmer. Pool decent length to get a swim in.

Bed was fairly comfy. Pillows not great, should have taken the option to ask for the pillow menu at reception. Room was clean and spacious. Was woken by next door showering. The plumbing is incredibly loud. Pool and spa was lovely. Pool very large and the gym looked good too. Didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner but walked through on the way to the bar and food looked very nice. Breakfast was nice.

Lovely impressive hotel set in large grounds. Reception staff were welcoming friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, clean and had a bath which is always a plus these days. Decor slightly dated lacking plug/phone sockets next to bed however minor points that don’t detract from our stay. Facilities very good with large pool, sauna and steam rooms (nice and hot) again clean and presentable. Can’t comment on the restaurant or bar as didn’t use them due to be on special diet for training but given the rest of the experience would expect them to be similar standard. Overall a great stay and value for money!

The room was grotty and in need of redecorating. The hallway smelled like a toilet at a motorway services. Dinner at the restaurant was pretentious and tasted average. Breakfast was average at best. At least the staff were nice and friendly.

Tired hotel, spa area okay but again rather tired. Staff okay. Previous guest’s poo and skid marks in our toilet on arrival which is pretty poor.

Upon entering my room, someone had previosly been smoking in it; worse, the toilet had faeces in it. I returned to Reception, who were polite and efficient, but at no time was I offered an apology, not only for the inconvenience, but also having to wait for the duty manager to return to the desk so that a replacement room could be authorised. I showed a photo of the offending toilet - why is the Reception desk not empowered to make such a simple and clear cut decision?

Hotel is beautiful from the outside. Staff were very friendly & welcoming. Plenty of parking. Pool was great! Room was clean & beds very comfy. We had a twin double room. Breakfast was lovely, plenty to choose from. Only criticism, walls a little thin & could the person in the room next door coughing & being sick! Otherwise really enjoyed our stay & would recommend.

The pool and changing areas weren’t particularly clean and felt run down. Poor lighting in the room and the pillows were awful. On the plus side the food in the restaurant was lovely!

There were blood stained sheets and I never got over that. Obviously hotel changed the sheets when I complained but how did they pass inspection in the first place? No confidence after that

Hotel was clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. The wi-fi was absolutely terrible though and it was impossible to get any work done or download anything to watch. The gym was very good and clean and airy.

Excellent value: spacious and comfortable room, superb facilities.

Room was basic for price of room only... was at wedding so no use of pool etc. Shower splurted water every direction and pillows/bed hard Towels were lush and could do with shower cap especially given shower head.

What a confusing hotel to navigate around. You start off in the car park and no obvious “Hotel Reception this way” signs. When you get into the hotel, the direction signs there are even more confusing. Arrows everywhere, indicating rooms on different levels when you have no idea what level you are actually on to start with. I think reception is on Level 2! The rooms themselves were a bit dated but generally ok, clean and had a comfortable bed. It does annoy me when there aren’t any plug sockets or USB chargers next to the bed to charge devices. Eating wise, there is the option of a Restaurant or a Bar with a Bar menu. Unfortunately, the bar only had low comfortable chairs and low tables. If you order Bar Food you end up perched on the edge of your seat leaning over the low table to eat. When the food came out, the staff seemed to wonder around with it, hunting for the person who ordered it, despite them asking where we were sitting when we ordered. After our dinner had passed a few times, I had to flag them down and they just placed the food on the table and left. No “Can I get you any sauces”, also no cutlery. After a few minutes when it was obvious that they weren’t actually going to bring us any, we had to go up to the bar and ask for some. When that came, they gave us cutlery and explained they only had one napkin and he would bring us another. That didn’t happen. If that wasn’t bad enough, when our dessert arrived, we again had to go and ask for a spoon.

The room itself was extremely small and uncomfortably hot, making it difficult to relax. The reception area also had an unpleasant smell which left a bad first impression. Throughout the stay it was very noisy, and the water pressure in the bathroom was poor — it kept cutting out and making strange noises during the night, which made it hard to sleep. Overall, the place felt poorly maintained and not very welcoming. The night receptionist was really nice and helpful, which was one of the few positives during the stay.

Lovely building and room was large for a standard twin. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Dinner in restaurant was delicious - a high standard . Swimming pool was large. Would definitely return.

Pros - friendly check-in also nice and quick, big room and very comfy bed, big towels which i need lol. Cons - nothing comes to mind

The bed was comfy enough. The room we were in was not worth the money paid nor did it really feel like a suite. All it had was a bigger bathroom. There was lots of dusty areas and cobwebs in places. The room really could use an over hall. Not many outlets especially for this day and age rooms should be fitted with USB sockets. Breakfast was not good at all. Food choice was lacking and it didn’t seem like the food items were restocked enough throughout the morning. When we arrived for breakfast there was a lot of empty trays and very picked over food. We also asked if there was any way to extend the stay by 20-30 minutes but was told no. Figuring the price we paid they would have made ab exception. When we said about this at checkout, when asked if we enjoyed our stay. We said it was mediocre and the guy asked why. We started off with the point about the few minutes extra and he just got very defensive. Like we insulted him. So because of his reaction we didn’t bother going further with why we didn’t enjoy our stay. He needs to be trained with dealing with complaints. Obviously he takes them to personally instead of dealing with it in a professional manner. He should have listened to the problems we had without reacting that way. Even if there wasn’t anything he could have done to make it right. Listening in a respectful manner and to say he would pass it on to management would have gone further than reacting defensively.

I appreciate that check in before 3pm is not guaranteed, but my experience on this visit (I've stayed before) was not what I would deem as positive customer service. On arrival at 2pm we were told that housekeeping would not confirm room readiness prior to 3pm - not even an attempt to check. Most hotels will at least check - even if very busy

I thought everything was going great, great check in, fantastic pool. Nice Staff. Decided to eat in, and bonus, I was allowed to eat from either the bar menu or Restaurant menu. I’ve stayed many times I fancied just steak and chips. This is when the NEW POLICY was announced. If I wanted to pick from Restaurant menu I am forced to chose 2 items. Starter main, Main Dessert. I wasn’t that hungry and the starters choice was poor anyways. I’m Diabetic so rarely eat dessert. There was no movement on this new policy. I didn’t drink the Pint of Tetley’s I’d waited 10 minutes for and took my business elsewhere. I don’t understand how this new policy benefits a mostly empty Restaurant. Surly it would have been better to serve me the Merlot, Steak and Chips and Peppercorn sauce. Surely the £40 was better in your till than with another Business on principle.

More thought needs to be given to staffing the bar at peak times when the hotel is fully booked. Would certainly stay there again - mainly because of the helpful and pleasant staff and the charm of the place itself.

Very welcoming and good use of leisure facilities. Room spacious and clean and front desk team were very accomadating.

Car park is a few hundred yards from the hotel entrance. Nice room and good food. Good service and good location for main roads to motorways, though no discernible traffic noise.

The hotel is very good but the surrounding area it is very limited For a countryside hotel you would expect a better contact with the nature .The swimming pool is open to the locals who do not like to share the space with the hotel costumers and the space can be very crowded for this.

A convenient location

Hotel setting was lovely and we made use of the swimming pool while there. The room was very warm which meant it was not as comfortable as it could have been. The bar was not really an option to eat a sit down meal in as the tables were all very low and all chairs were sofas or bucket chairs. This would have been our first choice rather than pay the very expensive restaurant prices, however the food was very good in the restaurant. So I would suggest if they offer a bar menu they create a comfortable bar area with proper height tables and chairs to eat from. Overall a pleasant stay.

Nice room lovely food

Comfortable stay. Room clean and tidy. Desk staff were lovely. Breakfast at 9 am was a let down, sausages were awful, bacon hard, cheese hard and the eggs had been out way too long sadly. Fretwell spa was lovely

Friendly staff, short drive off the M18 Decent room with good modern bathroom, the large Swimming Pool is a bonus. The bar menu could be more extensive. Would stay here again
