At old wing right above bar area. Steep rickety stairs. Sloppy noisy uneven floorboards. Window view of churchyard cemetery next to main road. Otherwise working shower and plenty of power sockets. Floor slope to one side of room and two steps to bathroom. Not sure how an infirmed person will cope but then unlikely to make up stairs.

Parking was very limited and open to public access. No apparent cctv coverage either. Due to a private function we could not use the hotel restaurant - it would have been helpful to have been advised of this beforehand as we struggled to find anywhere to eat. Our room was clean but very dated and shabby. Beds were not that comfortable and there were no plug sockets by the beds to charge phones etc. The bathroom - like the bedroom - was very dated and in need of a refit. Breakfast the next morning was the worst part of our stay. Overcooked, rock hard bacon, undercooked sausages and to top it all, mouldy bread! Overall it was very disappointing. We have stayed at the hotel before and enjoyed it a lot. The place needs some investment and refurbishment.

We've stayed here a few times and the hotel has lots of history. Unfortunately, it now needs some updating and repair. There were a few areas of the hotel which were obviously not tended. For example, there were tiles which had fallen onto the floor of the gents toilet. They were still loose on the floor 4 days later! Apart from Madison who worked in the bar and was very helpful and friendly, the rest of the staff were really miserable and unfriendly. The girl on reception was unfriendly and uninterested! The bar seemed to have no set hours. Sometimes it closed at 10:15, other times at 12:00. We saw a number of customers refused drinks when the bar should have been still open, especially for residents! Doubt if we'll stay there again 😰

An elderly hotel, quaint but comfortable. Superb bed, so slept well. Breakfast super. However, I need a ‘walker’ due to a bad back and had no warning that there is NO lift - bedrooms are on upper floors so very difficult. Also there has been confusion with payment. I paid Expedia at time of booking and paid the Bell a different amount when departing. Checked with The Bell upon arrival at home and was told that my ‘payment to the Bell’ was for invoice only???

Parking was ok, after we discovered another overflow car park. Room was clean and comfortable. It was so noisy with traffic and people outside our window. Not helped by a coach arriving with tourists at 5.40am,laughing and chatting loudly. I did discover that our window was stuck open in the morning,when I reported to the reception they said oh yes we know several people have complained. No apology from anyone, they just said they're waiting for it to be sorted out. I was really disappointed as I've stayed her a couple of times now.

Ok hotel . Bar and food was fine. Rooms could do with an update and a re- decoration as they are a bit tired. But they were clean. Room was boiling as it was a warm weekend. No aircon, and with the window open street was quite noisy.

Did not get room i paid for which was booked through Expedia. The photos of the room booked were not the room which we where allocated. I went to reception to say we had wrong room, only to be told that we had to take that up with Expedia she said we were down as a double room and that the balcony rooms were classed as superior. I showed her my booking and said Expedia class it as a standard feature and showed her the photos that went with the booking, only for her to say that they were not responsible for photos. The room in which we stayed was very dated especially the bathroom. There was no lid on the toilet seat, there was rust on chrome, crack in a couple of tiles and a very overall look of tiredness. The bed however, was compfy and the sheets and towels very clean. I think we had expected one type of room onlt to recieve a not so good one. The receptionist was less than helpful. We were very disappointed. I am still waiting to hear back through Expedia

The bathroom was shocking for the money we paid. The bath was covered in dirty limescale and unusable. The sink took ages to drain and the toilet bowl trap needed a scrub. The bed was comfortable and clean but the windows were filthy on the outside and part of the pelmet was broken and hanging down. We appreciate that the building is old but you need to do better Greene King and spend more on maintenance.

The hotel was reasonable with excellent affordable dining It was a bit noisy but that was due to the location rayher than the hotel which was reasonably quiet The room was fine albeit bit dated but the bed was very comfy The one thing that let it down was the state of the bath It had obvious not had a deep clean for months It had brown run marks all round the inside and there was build-up of dirty hard scale round tap end and plug hole. We did not feel able to use it at all. We came back late and left quote early so did not have the energy for the 4 flights of stairs again to go and complain We are both nearly 80 It was a shame that a 10 minute job or a regular proper clean spoilt the night.

I meeded an overnight stop en-route to an event in the area. The location, price and car parking options first attracted me. On arrival I was greeted courteously and made very welcome. The staff were all very professional, but also sympathetic and obliging to a small additional request I had. The room was comfortable and clean, and a good size. Bathroom and Bed both of good standard. Ideally located for an all too brief look around the Town, the Hotel has its own charm, history and character. I would definitely go back.

Everything in this hotel was terrible. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was ok nothing special for £25 for two people. £105 for one night in a very uncomfortable bed is a joke. The toilet in the common area was clogged with poo We do not recommend this hotel

I was surprised to find the Hotel was run by Greene King. Why? Because it s shockingly dirty, it really needs serious money pumping into it. The walls are damp, the carpets are old and require replacing. The general cleanliness is poor and the bedroom windows and windows in general are a disgrace. Do you have your own in house Group Hotel Inspector? Someone who goes around your establishments, ensuring standards are being maintained and surpassed? I could do that for you and improve the company training of staff. It was so disappointing especially a hotel like the Bell which has bags of history…it’s unique! The staff try hard but with some encouragement and training they could be brilliant! Again, I could help you with that! It does cost, but change is the price of survival. Everything is negotiable except quality and service Yours sincerely Neil

In a convenient location in middle of Thetford. The staff were friendly. Reasonably value for money. Bathroom was dissappointing - water flow for shower poor, towel rail on with no control to turn it off in the middle of summer.Temp control for shower hard to control. General decor clean but a little scruffy.

The hotel was ok for a two night stay however at night it was very noisy and hard to sleep. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size but the bathroom looked tired but clean. For the price we paid you couldn’t grumble too much. If I was to go again I would definitely not ask for room 15 only because of the noise. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. They accommodated me as I have celiac disease. We came to see the Dads Army museum and everything was walking distance.

Lovely staff. Hotel badly needs modernising. Tiny tv had annoying buzz coming from speakers rendering it useless for watching anything. The crappy aluminum 1950's window frame was damaged so one side would close and the other had a 3cm gap. The bathroom while clean was very dated with grouting and mastic sealing needing a great deal of love.

I was staying whilst on a business trip. My room was in the main building and was not flat. The room had a slope in it which made me feel very dizzy. The furniture was dated and the bed was uncomfortable. The bar was a very pleasant experience and I enjoyed the food and beer garden.
I was staying whilst on a business trip. My room was in the main building and was not flat. The room had a slope in it which made me feel very dizzy. The furniture was dated and the bed was uncomfortable. The bar was a very pleasant experience and I enjoyed the food and beer garden.

Did not get room i paid for which was booked through Expedia. The photos of the room booked were not the room which we where allocated. I went to reception to say we had wrong room, only to be told that we had to take that up with Expedia she said we were down as a double room and that the balcony rooms were classed as superior. I showed her my booking and said Expedia class it as a standard feature and showed her the photos that went with the booking, only for her to say that they were not responsible for photos. The room in which we stayed was very dated especially the bathroom. There was no lid on the toilet seat, there was rust on chrome, crack in a couple of tiles and a very overall look of tiredness. The bed however, was compfy and the sheets and towels very clean. I think we had expected one type of room onlt to recieve a not so good one. The receptionist was less than helpful. We were very disappointed. I am still waiting to hear back through Expedia

Arrived late after 12 hour flight and 2 hours drive, given the only room left but obviously vacated by previous guest with damp towel on bed, bin not emptied, etc. Had to wait another half hour before I could go back in the room. Management should not just rely on computer update but walk the walk to ensure rooms are ready for guests.

Our experience was ruined by the very poor service at breakfast. Despite reminders to the staff serving, including warnings that as a diabetic on insulin I could not afford to wait for fear of hypoglaecimia , the breakfast had not apeared even after a 40 minute wait. We were therefore forced to leave without it and eat elsewhere. I should be obliged to receive apropriate compensation for this poor experience

Just want we needed staff were fantastic and really went the extra mile to accommodate our early arrival and had the room ready for us. Room was nice and big and comfortable. It is a little dated but generally expected. Breakfast was good also. But staff really made the stay were super helpful and friendly.

We've stayed here a few times and the hotel has lots of history. Unfortunately, it now needs some updating and repair. There were a few areas of the hotel which were obviously not tended. For example, there were tiles which had fallen onto the floor of the gents toilet. They were still loose on the floor 4 days later! Apart from Madison who worked in the bar and was very helpful and friendly, the rest of the staff were really miserable and unfriendly. The girl on reception was unfriendly and uninterested! The bar seemed to have no set hours. Sometimes it closed at 10:15, other times at 12:00. We saw a number of customers refused drinks when the bar should have been still open, especially for residents! Doubt if we'll stay there again 😰

Our shower did not work and after reporting it nothing happened. My wife and I both had to go without a shower after her park run. We had both advised the reception. Once at 7am and again at 9.40. They just said we will report it and no offer of another room to shower in. The bar staff were great.

The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Although I am a lone woman, I didn’t feel at all uncomfortable either staying at The Bell, or walking around Thetford in general. I thoroughly recommend The Bell, and will be staying there again. I had previously stayed at the Travelodge in Thetford.

The hotel was ok for a two night stay however at night it was very noisy and hard to sleep. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size but the bathroom looked tired but clean. For the price we paid you couldn’t grumble too much. If I was to go again I would definitely not ask for room 15 only because of the noise. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. They accommodated me as I have celiac disease. We came to see the Dads Army museum and everything was walking distance.

Parking was ok, after we discovered another overflow car park. Room was clean and comfortable. It was so noisy with traffic and people outside our window. Not helped by a coach arriving with tourists at 5.40am,laughing and chatting loudly. I did discover that our window was stuck open in the morning,when I reported to the reception they said oh yes we know several people have complained. No apology from anyone, they just said they're waiting for it to be sorted out. I was really disappointed as I've stayed her a couple of times now.

Ok hotel . Bar and food was fine. Rooms could do with an update and a re- decoration as they are a bit tired. But they were clean. Room was boiling as it was a warm weekend. No aircon, and with the window open street was quite noisy.

The area was lovely, we walked around and explored the park and streets alike. We hadn’t realised the dads army connection, which was a lovely discovery. Unfortunately at night we were disturbed by loud noises from people nearby the property and obviously outside of your control.

I meeded an overnight stop en-route to an event in the area. The location, price and car parking options first attracted me. On arrival I was greeted courteously and made very welcome. The staff were all very professional, but also sympathetic and obliging to a small additional request I had. The room was comfortable and clean, and a good size. Bathroom and Bed both of good standard. Ideally located for an all too brief look around the Town, the Hotel has its own charm, history and character. I would definitely go back.

It was awesome! The food was great! We stayed in Room 29 (the haunted room) but no spirits were playing except for hiding the TV remote control which we found under the bed on the old fireplace step!!

Parking was very limited and open to public access. No apparent cctv coverage either. Due to a private function we could not use the hotel restaurant - it would have been helpful to have been advised of this beforehand as we struggled to find anywhere to eat. Our room was clean but very dated and shabby. Beds were not that comfortable and there were no plug sockets by the beds to charge phones etc. The bathroom - like the bedroom - was very dated and in need of a refit. Breakfast the next morning was the worst part of our stay. Overcooked, rock hard bacon, undercooked sausages and to top it all, mouldy bread! Overall it was very disappointing. We have stayed at the hotel before and enjoyed it a lot. The place needs some investment and refurbishment.

Stayed here about a month ago - it is an OK place to stay - you know what to expect from GK. Friendly efficient service - comfortable with no real issues. Good breakfast - evening food was wholesome and typical of all GK menus. Have stayed twice before and would stay again - I have found it reliable and so one thing less to worry about when planning a trip away.

Room was adequate, bathroom is in desperate need of a refurbishment. Our window was over the function room / car park and was very noisey, had to leave window open as there is no air conditioning in the rooms. We only ate at the hotel on Sunday evening, when they had run out of roasts, had limited menu, which was further restricted as their fryer had broken down. Not value for money at £100 per night.

fine for a cheap stop over but it's very dated. My shower didn't work either. I wouldn't recommend paying over £80 max or you will be very disappointed. The actual pub side for a drink wa really nice though and food looked good.

Pleasant overnight stay. The room was fine, window was open on arrival and I couldn't get it shut, but given the excessive heat we're having at the moment I was happy to leave it open. On-site car park was full, but there is a free car park just up the road so that saved me a few quid. Decent food and a free cooked breakfast was included. Nice property, would stay there again.

Rooms not clean, Bathroom shower was physically dirty. We asked about dinner as we knew we wouldn`t be back until after 20.00 told 20.45 got to the bar 20.15 to be told sorry kitchen closed as they have problems.We could accept that but while we sat and had drinks food came to a table and we think another person ordered. Breakfast very un helpfull lady, ordered salmon and scrambled eggs which was terrible microwaved eggs she came and asked how breakfast was I said poor and she walked off I did not finish half of it. Would not recommend
