The property is undergoing renovations at the moment and the in-house restaurant is not available. We didn’t know this until check-in. The room was road facing/frontage, and traffic noise was ample. No lift/elevator available. Other than that, great stay. Would recommend.

The "hotel" is a motel. It is clean and in a convenient location on the outskirts of town. Walking distance to groceries, takeaways, a cafe etc. Staff were friendly on check in but no staff at all after 6pm so both nights when noise was excessive from another room very late there were no staff to help with that. Bar, restaurant and pool unavailable sadly.

I always stay here when in Whanganui visiting whanau. Its not flash, but its always tidy and clean. It is a bit tired, but you dont stay here expecting the Ritz! Location is great.

👍 Like my review! We had a quick overnight stay at The Avenue Hotel in Whanganui, New Zealand as part of our road trip towards Wellington. The hotel met our expectations and we had no issues during our stay upon looking at the previous reviews. As the previous reviews shared that the place is a bit worn down, the room was overall clean, check in staff was friendly and smooth, bed and pillows were comfortable, bathroom was refreshing with toiletries (e.g. shampoo, conditioner, soap), fridge was convenient, internet was optimal for email and reading, several outlets, and offerings for use with a provided kettle (e.g. instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, spoon, cups, glasses) was helpful to start the morning or end an evening. Although you may need to drive to a very cute and spacious downtown, the hotel was near several grocery stores, had free parking, and was in a quaint neighborhood. Please note that the hotel does lock up in the evening to maintain the safety of the guests requiring physical key access from the back of the hotel. They also offer on-site self-serve laundry service ($5 washer, $5 dryer, and extra for detergent) and in-room ironing board or hair dryer. We had no issues with checkout and the staff was very helpful as we left for our next journey! Overall, we would definitely consider staying here again (especially for an overnight stay) thanks to the great value and would recommend it to our friends and family.

Pros: • helpful at check-in • super easy to get a cot added in (call up before you check-in to confirm) • Jet baths are great if youre lucky to get one of those rooms • extremely comfortable bed • 24/hr help if we needed it • room where we stayed was very private Cons: • Kettles (tried 4x different ones) - disgusting (calcified and metal flaking, old dirty water left at bottom with bugs in one of them) had to buy brand new kettles • No duvet covers (just a duvet squished between two sheets - Lazy) • Rooms smell musty and mildew - had to open up all the windows and air it out for 30 mins just to make it bearable • Water temps are either too hot or too cold - no inbetween • Water pressure goes from very weak to very strong constantly • Some lights don't work • literal poo stains toilets not cleaned after last occupants - unacceptable for the price when Mother in law has cancer and is imuno compromised

This hotel is pretty tired and some facilities are in need of an upgrade. The ironing board possibly came with the hotel; it was shocking. The shower flooded the whole bathroom. ‘Deluxe’ suites are on the road side and noisy until night time. They’re also super hot -no aircon so you def need the in-room fan.

Room was very cheap and cheerful - couple of lights didn’t work and the tv was pretty ancient. Beds were very soft but fine for a night. Shower wasn’t amazing and was very slippery. Ok for a cheap sleeping stop.

Great location, close to many restaurants and all of the supermarkets, good parking. Check in was fairly simple and straight forward, I was on the first room of the ground floor right outside the carpark, I thought it would be noisier but it was fine. Room was comfortable, and well priced. No air conditioning or temperature control so the room was very warm, My stay was in mid November, The TV only had free view and only 8 channels.

Nice welcome, rooms larger and nicer than expected. Clean bathroom. Nice pool area, a bit shabby but nicer than expected. Warm and friendly staff. And then it came to sleeping - the room was a sauna, no aircon and with the door open it was noisy from the road. So hot in the room we had a terrible sleep. Really unfortunate as it could so easily be a totally ok 3 star hotel.

Great price, rooms have been recently refreshed clearly and look lovely, beautifully styled. Location was brilliant and staff were awesome. Really appreciated the smart lamps in the bedrooms that wirelessly charged my phone. Bathroom could do with a bit of an update and balconies need a paint. TV Channels limited.

Terrible check-in process at 630 pm. No phones in room, rooms left unlocked with keys inside, no way to find out our assigned rooms . Highly recommend you look elsewhere! Lobby reeked of smoke and Marijuana, but rooms did not have the smell. Beds were okay and clean, showers are tiny.

A clean and fairly comfortable room, if somewhat dated, but check in procedures and communication about changes to these procedures very poor and contradictory. Furthermore building on site means a temporary wall has been erected outside my window, blocking out light, sun and view, and the hotel restaurant was also closed. As it was the weekend there was no building noise but week day clients will be highly inconvenienced. This should have been signalled on booking. I will not stay here again.

I always stay here when in Whanganui visiting whanau. Its not flash, but its always tidy and clean. It is a bit tired, but you dont stay here expecting the Ritz! Location is great.

Location is great near to everything. My boys minimizes their voices because there is a charge of $85 for noises. No sky Tv though just normal 5 Tv chanel boys wanting to watch movies. But other than that was good.

We had a 2queen bed room,one bed was ok for one person as it sagged the other closer to the bathroom was hard and you could feel the springs digging your in the back so you didnt get a comfortable sleep. Lots of paint chips and scratches and a hole in the back of the bathroom door. Towels were quite old and small ,mould in the shower. For$ 210 a night should have been alot better. Also major constructions happening to the bar and restaurant so no availability of food or drinks. With no pre notification of this. Lucky there were places close by to eat and get a drink. Probably wouldnt stay there again sadly.

The property is undergoing renovations at the moment and the in-house restaurant is not available. We didn’t know this until check-in. The room was road facing/frontage, and traffic noise was ample. No lift/elevator available. Other than that, great stay. Would recommend.

Loved the room. Shower was great. Towels were big and fluffy. However, there was a fire in the restaurant and had not been rebuilt as of yet. There was plenty of Clubs, restaurants and stores within walking distance. There was also a bus stop right outside. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay.

Wir haben das Hotel wegen dem Restaurant und dem Frühstück gewählt. Bei unserer Ankunft wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass das Restaurant umgebaut werde und deshalb geschlossen. Frühstück gab es in einem Café, erreichbar innert drei Minuten. Ein gutes Restaurant war innert 20 Minuten zu Fuss erreichbar. In der Umgebung nur Fast Food Verpflegungsmöglichkeiten. Wegen der Strasse war der Lärm im Zimmer sehr laut.

The "hotel" is a motel. It is clean and in a convenient location on the outskirts of town. Walking distance to groceries, takeaways, a cafe etc. Staff were friendly on check in but no staff at all after 6pm so both nights when noise was excessive from another room very late there were no staff to help with that. Bar, restaurant and pool unavailable sadly.

The room is getting tired. The paint work needs looked at. The bed was comfortable but no air con so we had the fan on all night. The restaurant and bar are closed for most of this year due to being refurbished which meant no breakfast even though it was part of our deal. The cafe next door was good. Staff at check in and out were nice but if you want breakfast in the hotel book somewhere else. We had planned on eating in the hotel for dinner but had to walk to find somewhere to eat and after a long journey it was a bit off putting. The room was also facing into the car park and onto a busy road. It was noisy so ear plugs were needed.

A clean and fairly comfortable room, if somewhat dated, but check in procedures and communication about changes to these procedures very poor and contradictory. Furthermore building on site means a temporary wall has been erected outside my window, blocking out light, sun and view, and the hotel restaurant was also closed.
