River's Bend - Your ultimate River Destination

We had an amazing time. Beautiful property. Really enjoyed the use of the lawn games, and kayak. Many memories were made here.

The River’s Bend photos and descriptions were accurate. The property is on the Smith River with a stair case and trail winding down (past a fire pit) to its private beach. The large house which sleeps ten, but has only three bedrooms. The hot tub was clean, large, and 104 degrees F, when we arrived. There are three, mostly flat, grassy areas beyond the L-shaped deck off the front entrance and livingroom/dining room. It looks like they are getting ready to install a new sliding glass door, which will increase the ease with which to get to and from the hot tub and view. We appreciated the house being fully furnished with a well-stocked kitchen, large refrigerator, more than enough towels, comfortable couches. (Since everything is brown/gray, we wondered how often the place, like the walls, couches and rugs, are deep cleaned.). The place smelled clean and NOT of mold or pets. The appliances were clean. The house was maintained. We enjoyed the electric flame fireplace both nights, plus the old bathroom heater when we got out of the shower. It feels like somebody’s Aunt’s house—a welcome place, worn-in, and without pretension—with good water pressure and good will. There’s a river view from the open format kitchen/dining areas, living room, side deck, and upper bedroom. The river dominates and that’s what’s special about the property. (One would never know Pelican Bay was a few exits away.) We felt safe. The neighbors were quiet. Crescent City is a 10-15 minute drive south for food and supplies. Beaches are about the same distance away. We felt like we had driven to a special place (with good directions) where many gatherings had taken place. Although it’s not an accessible house—with an unpaved driveway, steps up to the house, and second-floor bedrooms—one bedroom is on the first-floor. All of us found what we wanted, when we wanted—coffee, teas, all sizes of zip bags, condiments, knives and cookware. We’re already talking about renting The River’s Bend next year. We recommend this host and property. Thumbs up.

My family of 5 adults and 2 children under 10 really enjoyed our stay. This home—it truly felt like a home—had the best river access of any property we’ve stayed at previously. We had the chance to see otters from the river view deck, we all enjoyed swimming in the river, and the kids enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit when the river was a bit too chilly. The beds were comfortable, kitchen was well stocked with cookware, and the location was perfect for us as we made numerous trips to Oregon, Hiouchi, Jed Smith State Park, and Klamath. We had one small issue with a faulty fire alarm, but Dave was easy to contact and quick to reply. We loved our stay, thank you to the Powells for allowing us to stay in your lovely home for a memorable family vacation. We would definitely stay again.

Please fix the fishing rod situation as only 1 was in working order out of the 6. It was also extremely cold in the house when we arrived and the water had not been turned on.

HANDS DOWN the best Air B&B we've stayed in!!!! The home is older and has a quirky layout, which worked well for our family. We used the kayaks and paddle boards and we're in the river until the sun went down, then we hit the hot tub. If you're a water family you'll love it there!!! Pricey but worth it.

Family friendly. Comfortable. Well equipped. Lots of amenities. Plenty of recreational equipment for all ages. Really enjoyed our time kayaking and taking in the beautiful scenery from the deck. Great place to relax and reconnect with distant family. Fun for all from 7 to 70.

The house was the perfect size for our family of 6 and could have easily accommodated more people. The room upstairs was great for the kids. The river and the view was gorgeous. Unfortunately the hot tub was not working during our stay.The location was great, we easily made the drive to Crescent City daily and also to many hikes in the Redwoods.

This place was so great! The only thing that could make it even better would be a covered deck area for when the weather is a little rough. I would have sat outside in a tote rial downpour just to listen to the river and adjacent creek! We did sit in the hot tub to soak up the perfect setting while it was pouring rain. We also had a fire in the fire pit and would go out when there was a break in the weather. I’d say 13 guests would be a tight fit as we had 12 and were cozy. The home was so well stocked with any and everything you could need! Best stocked rental I’ve ever stayed at. Communication with host was excellent! Very helpful and accommodating! Hope to Go back when the weather is a little better so we can enjoy the place entirely.

Love the river and the Hot tub!

Cold and rainy on this trip, could not ask for a better spot on the river. Only complaint we had was the hot tub was dirty. We were really looking forward to spending our time in the tub, but not this trip.

It’s an older soggy house in the perfect location. It’s got a lot of stuff in the home, and you don’t want to look too closely at the ceilings and corners, but it still felt clean enough to stay in. The heaters are all very old, as is a lot of the house. If the location wasn’t perfection, I’d have complaints. Had to call the owner about checkin, but he was delightful and had it resolved within five minutes. I’d stay again, for sure! Just expect cozy campy versus clean and modern.

Rented this for a family weekend celebration and was not disappointed. Well cared for home and property . Open kitchen stocked with more than essentials and owners even stock pantry which is something you don’t encounter too often at vacation rentals. Will definitely keep this property in mind for future gatherings

View is incredible. There are no pictures that could do it justice. The home is clean and well equipped. The only reason I did not give 5 star is the gas seals are broke in the window overlooking one of the bedrooms upstairs. The sliding glass door is in poor shape going out onto the patio overlooking the river. They need replaced to show off god's beauty.

The property is a 10/10! Truly beautiful. The house is another story! There is a very strong and predominant mold/mildew smell and it was dirty. The odor was worst in the down stairs bathroom, master bedroom and laundry room. So bad infact we all showered up stairs and couldn't sleep in the master bedroom. I contacted the owner and he just said sorry. We left this house cleaner than when we arrived and had to buy supplies to help us make it through our stay. Everyones allergies were crazy. It was extremely disappointing! Cobwebs all over, dust mites crawling in the master bedroom windowsill. I took several pictures and videos. The mold/mildew smell is my biggest issue and my family was miserable. It was making us sick. master bedroom. I hehe juat hehe jusasorry

This house was the perfect space for my family of 7. Large kitchen, family room, and dining area. We've rented several vacation homes and this was the most well stocked with kitchen supplies, towels, bedding, games, toiletries, etc. Our family enjoyed the outside space when it didn't rain. We used the hot tub once, enjoyed the river access and views, and the BBQ. This was a great location on a quiet street and wasn't too far from town when we needed to get gas and groceries. It was also near Kellogg beach which was nice. The only hiccup we had was a slight delay in the key code being activated for our entrance to the home. I texted the owner but ended up just calling him after waiting a little bit for a response. I will also add that the home was tidy but could use a good deep clean. There were noticeable cobwebs which might be hard for someone with allergies. It was a lovely place to stay and would be great to experience in the summertime with that beautiful river. I would bring my family here again and would definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Set right on the banks of the beautiful Smith river the house has everything you need for an amazing time. Sadly, we didn’t use the hot tub or some of the other amenities but we sure will next time! The kitchen/dining/living room layout is ideal for friends/family to eat and hang out. The owners are very nice and the entire process was easy and smooth! I’m (we) looking forward to coming back ASAP!

House was located near the river with beautiful views. Description mentions that it has beds for 12 but the property had only four proper beds that accommodated 8 of us. Futons were so uncomfortable that some of us chose to sleep on the floor rather than on the futons. During the midnight of the second day of our stay, the water supply system broke and the property had literally no water. We had to leave the house without doing the morning chores as well as dishes as there was no water. After about 3 days owner charged an extra $300 on our card with a claim that we broke their hot tub cover. Thankfully we had taken the video of whole house including the hottub cover which was already broken when we arrived at the property. Owner then removed the charges but still maintained that they believed we broke their cover. Overall it was not a great experience.

It was a fun place to stay for a large group. We really enjoyed the view and the hot tub.

Great week with family - this house had plenty to do and plenty of room for indoor and outdoor activities! We came for spring break and lots of rain but never a dull moment. Great set up for a larger group.

Best rental house on the Smith River! This was our 3rd or 4th time here and it's still our favorite rental house ever. Fully stocked with every possible thing you might need. The hosts are great and very helpful and the location is unique in that is has the best access of any rental house on the Smith River. Even my barely mobile 84 year-old mother-in-law could get down to the beach to watch us kayak and swim. My only tiny complaint is that the knives in the kitchen were almost too dull to use, so bring your own if you plan on cooking a big meal. The kitchen is great for cooking for a large group because it's open and you can chat while cooking. Wish I lived here!

I rented 2 homes 4 houses apart for a family vacation, for 7 nights. The house was beyond beautiful and clean. The jacuzzi was fabulous! Dave the owner was beyond fabulous and helpful. The next door neighbor on the other hand is a pervert, bothering us daily, was snooping and sneaking around the property, at night and his wife screaming for him to get out and come back home, to hurry, hurry. The next day we had no hot water, Dave was a total sweetheart helping us out, I honestly feel that the pervert neighbor turned the tank valve off causing no hot water, and Dave having to call a plumber the day before 4th of July, everyday the neighbor was a problem bothering us, sneaking behind trees in his yard watching my daughter model in the jacuzzi, he blamed us for putting toys on his steps leading to the river, on and on, It was something. My sister and I work in a mental health facility, nursing ward, and don’t want to be bothered while we’re on vacation, a quick hello is fine but this was 6 days of vacation hell. We were also told that our music was too loud and the neighbor was complaining at 6:00 p.m. TOTAL NEIGHBOR NIGHTMARE! For 6 nights out of 7. I again can’t stress enough how much Dave helped us but I shouldn’t have had to call him almost every day.

We had a wonderful stay at River’s Bend. Dave was excellent with communication leading up to and during our stay. The property is beautiful and has everything you need. The well stocked pantry was convenient and made our stay more comfortable. Our daughter had a great time reading new books and playing with all the toys. The house was clean and well cared for. The location was perfect for the hikes we had planned in the area. If we venture back to the Smith River we’ll be sure to stay at River’s Bend.

Beautiful clean house, the part you rent at least. 2 out of the 3 kayaks took on water and nearly ended up af the bottom of the river. The kayaks where one of the main reasons we stayed there. Completely unsafe amd have had previously been repaired not correctly. Security cameras, nof just 1 but a 2nd one pointing at the hot tub, I felt like my privacy was violated. That's not what I paid for. There's a deck on the trail by the waterfall, if you can find the trail, was SUPER unsafe and rotten we couldn't walk on. When I responded to the owner to express my concerns I received zero feedback. So spend your money elsewhere until they fix the safety issues. My 6yr could have drowned. Thank you for putting us in danger multiple times. They should not be allowed to advertise all these great extras unless they actually worked. Maybe 10 yrs ago.

We very much enjoyed our stay. It was a great base of operations to see many redwood and coastal sites nearby. Enjoyed kyaking on the river. Highly recommend staying here.

Loved the remote yet convenient property. Great place to come back and peacefully relax after a day of hiking. Would love to rent again from both owners and the house itself in the future.

Rivers Bend Lodge is situated in a nice, safe neighborhood on a beautiful stretch of the Smith River. It is easily accessible from Crescent City and a good launching point to access various parts of this gorgeous watershed. The location of the lodge is quite impressive, and I really enjoyed the ability to walk down to the river, or sit in the hot tub, and watch the wildlife (bald eagles, osprey, otters, unidentified bird species, etc.).

Perfect place & location with tons of supplies!

Setting is breathtaking. The Smith River is so beautiful. We were all able to enjoy this location. (Updated cookware would be nice.)

Even in the winter, it was a magical stay to watch the water in the river rage, over coffee or from the hot tub. This is also, by far, the best well stocked vacation house we have ever visited. Wonderful stay!!!

Rented this for a family weekend celebration and was not disappointed. Well cared for home and property . Open kitchen stocked with more than essentials and owners even stock pantry which is something you don’t encounter too often at vacation rentals. Will definitely keep this property in mind for future gatherings

This house was the perfect space for my family of 7. Large kitchen, family room, and dining area. We've rented several vacation homes and this was the most well stocked with kitchen supplies, towels, bedding, games, toiletries, etc. Our family enjoyed the outside space when it didn't rain. We used the hot tub once, enjoyed the river access and views, and the BBQ. This was a great location on a quiet street and wasn't too far from town when we needed to get gas and groceries. It was also near Kellogg beach which was nice. The only hiccup we had was a slight delay in the key code being activated for our entrance to the home. I texted the owner but ended up just calling him after waiting a little bit for a response. I will also add that the home was tidy but could use a good deep clean. There were noticeable cobwebs which might be hard for someone with allergies. It was a lovely place to stay and would be great to experience in the summertime with that beautiful river. I would bring my family here again and would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
