Carmel Inn & Suites

Easy check-in and easy free parking. Unfinished / pool under construction was a bummer.

Overall quality of property is declining. And the listing of a swimming pool should be removed because it is now just a concrete hole with the bottom broken out and various junk stored in and around it.

Staff wasn’t very welcoming, mainly just there to give you a key and charge you for your room, The room was quaint, but was overshadowed with the following concerns. Our blanket on the bed had visible stains on it. The coffee maker had old coffee grounds left inside and the pot was dirty and’s was missing the lid. The door to the room had a large gap under the door allowing the cold air to come in. A plus is that the heater worked well! You would think they would be more efficient and seal the bottom of the door to save on heating costs. Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking what use to be the pool. It’s now empty with a hole in the bottom collecting dirty water and had dead plants throw into it. The pool area is now a place where broken and unused items go to die. NOT the view I wanted to see from my window! It was a place to sleep, but could use lots of improvement!!!!

This is a very cute hotel and so close to everything. It is quick walking distance to all the restaurant shopping and about a 10 minute walk to the beach. The hotel is in need of some updating and I believe it’s going through some improvements. I had a really cute room downstairs, but the view was overlooking a pool which was a construction zone. I had to keep the curtains closed looks like they reroofing the property. The room was basic and had all the amenities needed. The floor had a sinking spot near the bed where the boards were loose. The bathroom needed some repairs on the ceiling in the shower area there were multiple marks. This was a very affordable hotel overall. They do provide a morning breakfast delivered in a basket to your door. I’ve stated this hotel to other times in different rooms that were nice, a bit worn also but charming. The parking here is designed for compact cars so if you have a bigger vehicle, it will be very hard to park. You will need to do it on the road . The staff is very friendly and answered all my questions every time I had them. They were very accommodating. Overall, I think this is a decent place to stay. It just needs some basic cosmetic improvements to the rooms and to the grounds.

The hotel was nice for the most part, nice location, staff was pleasant but no hot water was available in our room and the pool was non operable.

Quaint Needs some outdoor sitting areas. Had a pool - but looks like it’s in transition for something else - right now junk storage.

The room had cleanliness issues in the bathroom (toilet), grime on phone and dressers, stained towels and sheets. Curtain sheers were torn and dirty. Room in partial state of remodel: no front door threshold (2 inch gap), no bathtub caulk, no bathroom threshold. Room was not made up after first night - no fresh towels, etc. Breakfast basket was questionable - boxed cereal, juice, and pastry. Outside property in partial state of remodel also - swimming pool being dismantled, roof in a suspended state of replacement. Experience was awkard and uncomfortable.

The location is nice, but the rooms are terrible. I paid a pretty penny for 2 nights and I was met with a dirty room. Hair on the bed, in the mini trash can where the coffee is, under the chairs, and on the tv cabinet. There were brown spots on the wall, dirt on the walls, and the wallpaper was peeling. Both of the chair cushions were ripped. The window view was the pool. Or I should say what is left of the pool. The pool looked like it was abandoned for a while. Grime and bugs everywhere and cleaning supplies left in and around it along with trash. On top of all that, I found 2 spiders in the room (photos attached.) I contacted Expedia in an effort to get a refund or change properties. They contacted the hotel on our behalf and told the front desk person. That person did an inspection of the room so they could show their manager. I showed them everything I reported to Expedia. They proceeded to take pictures and send them to who I assume was their manager. In attempt to accommodate us, they offered us an upgrade on our stay. The room was the one next to us. We went in and inspected it. Although there were not spiders, I was still dirty. Finger nails in the nightstand, hair on the bed, white powder substance in the tv cabinet, and the window view was of a wall. Told him no. While waiting, cleaning lady came and asked if we were leaving. I said no and she scoffed and rolled her eyes. I was able to check out, but no refund even with all the proof. I’d give half star if I could.

A great hotel in a good area. Unfortunately having painting work done which was noisy and no outdoor pool that was advertised.

Everything except parking was easy. Parking space is pretty small.

When we first came in the room, the decor was quaint and cozy. However the room was very dusty like it was never mopped or cleaned. We even wiped a table filled with dust. The lighting was also very dim. It was also disappointing that there was no body soap and we had to provide our own. The building seems to be outdated especially how thin the walls are that we could hear our upstairs neighbors and our next neighbors very clearly. Had potential, but could be better

The hotel room is worn out. They need to fix the floor, it feel you are going sideways and there is a bump in the middle of the floor that can make you trip. No elevator. The cleaning need to be detailed, the toilet was dirty. Also the alarm clock when off at 5:00 a.m. and woke us up. We did not set it up. Great customer service!

The property itself is older and has a bit of charm to it. The lack of care though was apparent. The room had a large gap below our door to the outside and we had dust/dirt covering our floor due to it. We had to use bathroom towels to keep the dirt out. Additionally, in the evening we would be able to hear a neighboring rooms tv, and not a low amount of noise but quite a bit of noise that we couldn’t fall asleep due to it. The room overall was decently clean when we got there, a few holes in the top sheet, but was expecting a bit more. On our way out two days later, we wanted to use the ice machine to refill our cooler but decided it wasn’t worth it (machine was covered in dirt and dust with very little Maitenance having been done). Staff was polite. Not friendly or rude but one worded answers. Personally, I wish I knew this prior to staying and then I would have stayed elsewhere. Would go to again in a pinch, but wouldn’t personally choose to stay there again.

The surrounding area was beautiful since the inn was already in downtown and everything was walkable and had lots of dining and shopping options, but the room was extremely dusty. It felt like the room wasn't cleaned at all since it had a bit of a scent. It was also a bit weird that it was only our room that had a bathroom window that was accessible to anyone from the outside. We had to put a bathroom towel over it to ensure no one was looking or listening from the outside. Noise was also distracting, you can hear through the walls and it would be extremely unfortunate if youre on the ground floor since you can hear footsteps and any furniture movement from the 2nd floor. Parking was also really tight so be mindful of that. There are no air conditioners as well.

I am not a critical person and seldom leave a negative review. The housekeepers were excellent, so it's not about the staff. This hotel is in serious need of some upgrades! The carpet is stained and dingy. The first impression when you walk into the room is that it's old and not too clean. Come on, folks, We love Carmel Charm but put some money in new flooring.

Decent location, but the floor of our room had a film over it and the walls are paper thin (You hear everything in the room next to you). Would not recommend

The hotel and its staff were very nice. The room was clean and awesome for the price! However it is located on probably one of the busiest damn streets in Carmel!!! Trash trucks, cars tearing up and down the street which is located on a hill.

The king bed suite was very comfortable with plenty of dresser space, two closets, and bar counter with separate sink. Excellent value.

Second time here, great value and location, getting the larger rooms (suites) with a living area makes it very comfortable.

Please tell this owner of the hotel to replace all of their mattresses. They are so old and I couldn't sleep all night. Walls are thin with no insulation as we could hear the neighbors as well.

This property is outdated and the bed was the worse. It’s like sleeping on the floor with springs coming out of the mattress. I asked if I can get moved to another room hoping a better bed, and front desk clerk said they’re all the same. I was very close to leaving after first night, but we had one more night and I was enjoying the shopping and restaurants. No wonder they offer massages because after first night you wake up with your neck and shoulders kinked. Ya we were only there to sleep, but you leave this place hurting from not having a good sleep. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Great location , near downtown Carmel, walkable distance to everything. The suite turned out to be like a 2 bd, turned out great for our family with a 15 months old. Very quite room. All was great!

The property is shortly staffed. The cleaning staff ignored the do not disturb sign and entered the room to drop off towels. Management should prioritize updating the place. The room was rundown and in poor condition. The only thing that appeared to be renovated was the bathroom, but there was little attention to detail as the shower curtain was inside out.

The receptionist was very courteous and helpful.

Good customer service

I definitely was amazed by how thoughtful, helpful and caring the office staff was when hi, accidentally tripped and fell in the parking lot of the hotel. She helped me in so many ways and made a difficult situation much better. Two thumbs up!!

As a Woman of Color, I did not feel welcomed or valued as a guest in this establishment. 1. I was unable to enter my room for 30 min after the 3 PM check-in time because the room was not ready due to maintenance making repairs to the bathroom. 2. After I was allowed access to my room, I started to hear loud banging on the roof directly above my room because maintenance was making repairs to the roof. This went on for over an hour. 3. The man at the front desk neglected to inform me about the repairs at check-in and when I inquired about them, he tried to gaslight me in front of other guests in an attempt to make me appear as if I was overreacting. He denied that there was construction and that maintenance was only "checking for leaks". After further inquiry, he finally acknowledged that repairs were being done on the roof but continued to lie about providing notice online. When I followed up to fact-check, he became rude and condescending. He kept interrupting me and began to argue with me. He was extremely dismissive and unaccommodating. 5. The pool was definitely an eyesore. It was inoperable and was very dirty. It looked like it had been under construction for some time. 6. The container that was delivered with the continental breakfast the next morning smelled of spoiled milk. It contained 2 Svenhard Danish, 2 cartons of milk, 2 cartons of OJ, and cereal they rationed and packaged themselves. 7. The room smelled old, but the bathroom was modern and clean.

Cleanest mom & pops hotel I have ever seen. Parking was easy. It is walkable to restaurants and shops but has some hills. Great place to stay.

Nice hotel with comfortable bed and helpful staff. The breakfast was sad so don't bother with that.

Excellent location with walkable access to downtown and beach area. Liked the personal touch of their continental breakfast with a basket at our front door. Would definitely stay here again.

The room had inadequate lighting. Too dark to read. The breakfast was not good. In a town with excellent bakeries, fresh pastry and fruit and some decent coffee would have been far preferable to the bad coffee, cereal and granola bars we got. The TV was old and had no APPs available. A bit more attention to detail could elevate this hotel without much effort.

Rose our check in gal was super sweet. The hotel is close to everything. The only thing negative I would say was there was a bit of a foul smell, and there was no full length mirror, and there is no breafast place to eat anymore. They deliver a basket in the morning with some breakfast items. Other than that , I really like this place.

Room was renovated and clean. It was advertised with free breakfast, but they did not have breakfast. They said it was only on weekends. It doesn't make sense, why not say so when we are making the reservation?

Breakfast was totally inadequate. No coffee available in room or included with breakfast.

Quality of the property has gone down in last 6 months. Carpet was in need of cleaning and dated. Breakfast which used to be daily is now restricted to weekends and hotel management quality has gone down. It is no longer a good value for money.

-Lack of amenities: very poor -Extremely poor quality of breakfast that was available. -not a good good experience in staying there. -would not intend to stay there next time and would not recommend others. -rooms do not match their pictures when I was booking a stay in this inn.

Really cute decor. Friendly staff. Great location. Close to shops and restaurants. They didn't mention to us upon check-in that a continental breakfast would be left at our door, so we only found it as we were leaving. We took it with us, but it would have been nice to know in advance so we'd have been able to eat in our room.
