Very disappointing. Old building. Room felt claustrophobic. Bathroom needed a remodel. Parking was an extra $39 per day. Parking garage and elevator was dirty. Pool was small. Pool had five speakers but only one worked. No breakfast included. Yet they charge market rates. We will not stay here again.

It was a short trip from L.A to San Diego. We had a graduation ceremony at 9:30a the next morning. The valet was great service, check-in was quick and easy. We made it in time for dinner and drinks at the restaurant in the hotel. Food and drinks were good. Starbucks in the morning was a lifesaver. I asked for a late check out with no problem. Which made my day. We will come back.

It was a very good hotel with excellent facilities and service. The room was clean, and the gym equipment was also great. There is a Starbucks inside the hotel, and a large mall nearby, which makes it very convenient. The breakfast was delicious. This is a lovely property tucked away in the city center. It is located in walking distance to a big Westfield Mall with loads of high end shops and eating. It is also in walking distance of the overhead tram line that runs through San Diego. Really good convenient location. Keep in mind you have to pay for parking!!

The lobby of the Marriott La Jolla is very modern and beautiful. However, the WOW factor stops there. Upon entering our guest room, we were greeted with the stench of mold and dated furniture. The room itself seemed quite old and had a lot of dust that had long settled on objects like the headboards, lamps, and even the walls. (Note the photo included.) The bathroom was somewhat clean, despite the amount of dust and dirt that sat on the vanity countertop.There was even the remains of toothpaste near the faucet where someone had previously brushed their teeth. The morning after check in, I called the front desk to request 2 laundry bags and a box of tissue. The person who answered was quite friendly and accommodating. I was impressed with how quickly the laundry bags were brought to my room. Yet, when I inquired about the box of tissue that I had also requested, the attendant immediately reprimanded me by not including that in my ask over the phone. I told the staff member that I did indeed request 2 laundry bags and a box of tissue over the phone. Yet, the staff member looked at his mobile device, and again, stated that I had not requested the tissue and told me he would return with the item. Perhaps the box of tissue was not communicated by the front desk staff. I do not know. But, I do not feel that deserved a reprimand from the attendant either way. There was very little issue with settling my account upon check out. But, my family and I will not be returning.

Honestly, this is the first time I've seen this situation in the hotel where I stayed. The blanket was stained with blood, and it had a bad smell as if they didn't wash the pillows. The smell stinks of blood when you use it to brush your teeth. This was a very bad experience. I can't recommend this hotel to anyone.

it felt like our room could have been a bit cleaner. I dropped something beside the bed, and when I looked down to retrieve it, it looked like under the nightstand had not been cleaned for quite some time. The room had a few areas like that.

The hotel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and helpful. I lowered the rating because I was placed in a room directly behind the elevators and we could hear the cables pulling up and down all night. Saturday night was worse than Friday night. Otherwise the room was very nice. I didn’t sleep at all due to the elevator noise. Luckily my daughters a heavy sleeper and it didn’t affect her. We were there for a 3 day soccer tournament. Marriott should refrain from placing people in the rooms directly behind the elevators

The location was great. The staff was friendly. The reason I rate it 3 stars was because the mattress was very uncomfortable. My partner and I woke up with a backache. The mattress made a loud squicky noise every time we repositioned in bed. The shower curtain was dirty with makeup. The noise level was terrible. Thin walls. You can hear the water running from the room next door. You can also hear the doors slamming from other guests. Overall, not my best stay.

My bathroom smelled like mildew. Maintenance walked into my room without waiting for me to answer which was absolutely not ok. Kids were extremely loud in the hotel. Valet, the bellman with the long gray curly hair and the staff in the dining area were all wonderful.

My room was clean but felt a little outdated. It was comfortable however. What stood out to me most was the staff members I dealt with. Without exception, everyone was very friendly, professional, and helpful. I did not get any names but I’ll describe the circumstances in the hopes they can be identified and complimented. I was checking in with my husband who had just had eye surgery. I stopped at the hotel around 1:00 p.m. while he was still at the hospital to see if I could get an early check in. I described the situation to the woman at the desk saying it would be best to go straight to the room. She was extremely friendly and helpful and did what she could to get me checked into a room early, which she did. I feel she went above and beyond. On our floor, 11, as we were making our way slowly to the room, we encountered two people cleaning rooms. They saw my husband's bandage and us moving slowly and one of them asked for my room key and went to our room to have the door open when we got there. It’s a small thing but it meant a lot and showed true care for us as guests. They were cleaning rooms on the 11th floor around room 1111 at about 2:30 or so on Saturday the 29th if you’re able to identify them. Finally, I asked for more pillows and a blanket so my husband could sleep in a position recommended by the hospital. The person who delivered them to our door was friendly and pleasant. Overall, I was very impressed with the staff.

Checkin was absolutely flawless. The staff was informative on dinner hours, parking, house keeping, etc. Also, the beds were so comfortable. It's been years since I have slept in a comfortable bed. We will be staying again when we return to La Jolla!

This is a lovely property tucked away in the city center. It is located in walking distance to a big Westfield Mall with loads of high end shops and eating. It is also in walking distance of the overhead tram line that runs through San Diego. Really good convenient location. Keep in mind you have to pay for parking!!

Beautiful hotel! Lovely atmosphere - the lobby has gorgeous artwork, the bar is beautiful, and staffed perfectly. We were quickly checked in, our room was fresh, clean, great view even from the third floor. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

Marriott always nice. I was pleased to see their breakfast in the hotel was very reasonably priced. Cheaper than Starbucks and better. Friendly staff, fast elevators, comfy beds. Convenient parking. All very nice.

I did not like the dining and bar closed too early even when the lobby was full of people. Parking is a bit excessive, it motivates using UBER instead (this would be a lose-lose situation for Marriot)

The room was fabulous—comfortable bed, a fridge, beautiful shower. But there was construction in the hallway, the bathroom sink stopped up, the restaurant served only a buffet, and the Starbucks on site had run out of chai tea, which is what I drink in the morning.

Too many charges, nickel and dimed to my bill. $39 to self park my car, after I paid $200 for the room. $21 per day for to connect ONE phone to WiFi. Additional charges if you want breakfast. The single employee struggled in the Starbucks to keep up with the customers, while the espresso machine was not working. I asked for a hot chocolate. “That machine is broke too.” I know it is not the Best Western, but they can do better, if they want to see me again.

Dear Marriott Management, I wanted to share feedback about our recent experience at your property. While the hotel itself was good and we liked the place and cleaning staff was extremely good (Danielle), our breakfast experience on both Friday and today (Monday) was unfortunately disappointing. One of the servers, Nelli, was not at all hospitable. Maybe she was busy but she set the really negative tone to our both days.Her service was very unwelcoming, and lacked the warmth or professionalism we expect at Marriott. We felt uncomfortable, and rather than starting the day on a peaceful note, we were left not feeling great. In contrast, Natalie (who served us over the weekend) was absolutely lovely — attentive, polite, and exactly what one expects from Marriott hospitality. The difference between the two was stark. She knew our order and knew how we wanted as she understood and didn’t say its not there without seeing, that we already had that order. Additionally, we were disappointed that room service was not available during our stay, which made things less convenient, especially while traveling with family. I should have checked for my parents. We chose Marriott expecting a standard of service that unfortunately wasn’t upheld consistently during our stay. I asked the hotel for assistance, but they were unable to provide a charger to borrow or even offer one for purchase. I found that very disappointing, especially considering the circumstances. Additionally, I paid $8 for a very small coffee from the café in the morning, and it tasted like watered-down colored water. For that price and from a Marriott property, I expected much better quality. The parking prices were also outrageous—$62 for valet parking and $42 for self-parking. Those prices are excessive and add significantly to the already expensive stay. Overall, the cleanliness, condition of the room, lack of basic assistance, and poor value left me disappointed. I would expect a much higher standard from Marriott.

From the moment we arrived, the service was friendly, professional, and welcoming. The hotel offers excellent amenities, comfortable accommodations, and everything we needed for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. The location is another huge plus. It provides easy access to La Jolla, Mission Beach, and many of San Diego’s best restaurants, beaches, and attractions while still being a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day. Great service, great amenities, and an excellent location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommended!

I have stayed in other Marriott’s or hotels by Marriott and they have been by far more taken care of…bathrooms need to be updated. I will be considering staying there again but will look for some other place that gives you a feeling that it hasn’t been like that for the past 20 years

The hotel is clean but rooms are quite dated and need to be remodeled. Parking is one of the cheapest in the area $48 a night. If you’re looking for a place for you and your partner it just doesn’t meet the mark. It’s okay for a family stay, there’s just no frills.
