The Willows Hotel

Small, charming hotel in a lovely neighborhood. Clean, comfortable beds with lovely linens. Great coffee in the lobby and loads of character. Parking in a municipal lot half a block away. I intend to stay there whenever I am in the north part of Chicago. However, does not have some of the amenities of a standard hotel: no microwave, fridge, ice machine or breakfast room.

+ You cannot beat this location. Tucked into a gorgeous neighborhood & easy walk to Wrigley field. Staff feels like a friend. Seriously. Always felt very safe. - It feels like a well worn home. Not dirty but not quite clean? Not modern at all if you’re into that. No breakfast. No coffee pot in the room. We will definitely stay again based on staff & location

Check in was fine and room spacious. Parking is sparse around area and parking garage charges $25 each time in or out.

Hotel is clean, comfortable, and walkable. The living room is especially nice with a fireplace, coffee, and homemade cookies.

Quaint, excellent service, clean, good location for me. Lack of amenities and parking challenging/expensive.

Major side of hotel was right next to alley way that was very noisy. There was people arguing and being loud well past 3 am. Our hotel windows looked right into the apartment across the way. Parking was at two public parking lots that were a few hundred yards away, and incredibly limited. We ended up having to use a public parking garage that was almost 1/2 a mile away. Staff was not knowledgeable about the area, we asked for recommendations and they acted as though they didn’t know the area. For the price, wished would have stayed at a motel 6, least we would have had coffee. No coffee was available in the lobby which often had people in it talking loudly on their phones. Over all not a place we want to stay again. Save your money, find somewhere else.

Reasonably priced, good location, short walk to Wrigley. An in-room coffee maker would be convenient

Every person at the front desk is SO friendly! The beds are comfortable. Its in a good location to be able to walk to eat and some shopping. MY only complaint is there is no parking, except for a very expensive parking garage down the street.

The Willows is a great hotel that reminds me of our hotels in Europe. My only complaint is that Expedia lists free parking and if you are lucky enough to find a spot on the street it is free but otherwise you have to pay in the parking garage down the street. Great hotel & staff.

Everything is great. Only thing I would suggest is not saying parking is on the property. It’s at a public garage at the end of the street. Close but not the same.

In the pocket of the bathrobe was a dirty razor. That itself is concerning but the fact it means they didn’t wash the robes before we got the room is most concerning.

Mold on the walls in bathroom. Plug sockets on lamp are worn out. No exhaust fan in bathroom. Lamp shade was ripped. Just sort funny how the crown molding just stops short of the adjoining wall. Overall the room and building are worn out

Location is quite good , cleanliness is fine . corridor carpet or something smells bit old .

Put on the provided white fluffy robe only to find a used razor in the pocket. That’s bad, but I think the more alarming part is it highlights they don’t wash the robes after each stay. Disgusting. Bright white towels, always nice, but….the two wash cloths had stains on them. Really have to question the housekeeping here.

This is an older property, but it is still a nice place to stay. When we were assigned our room (309) is smelled really bad. I am not sure if it was mold or the room just wasn't clean, something was not right. We checked with the desk clerk who initially said that there were no other rooms available, but at our instance, he was able to find a room in the property. He was not exactly the most engaging or helpful staff member. The day shift guy was great, so take that for what it is worth. This property is located close to lots of shopping and dining. This is the second time I have stayed in this area of Chicago, and I would stay here again because it is safe and clean. The rooms have a mini bar if you like that and some treats for purchase in the room. Beds were very comfortable.

Overall good stay - biggest negatives being the musty / mold smell in the room and the loud neighbors

I wasn’t expecting a luxurious hotel given what we paid for during a holiday weekend but it’s in a great location so we decided to book. This place is dirty, uncomfortable, and in need of a major upgrade. I don’t mind “old charm” but our walls were peeling, the linens were worn, the carpets smelled, and our tv didn’t work . The beds was extremely uncomfortable and there wasn’t even a fitted sheet placed to cover the stained mattress (disgusting). The pillows smelled terrible and were also stained and worn. One of my biggest frustrations was the lack of support from Hotels.com and the inability to cancel. Hotels.com will never refund your stay and then the put all of the blame on the hotel and then they turn around and do the same . Do yourself a favor and book directly with the hotels because this site is a nightmare to deal with .

My room had a horrible smell. We had to change properties

The location is great, and the area is safe and quiet. The room was very large. The bathroom was very clean. However, there was a huge clump of cobwebs in the corner of the bedroom. The pillows were terribly lumpy and uncomfortable. And it was very humid in the room, which caused a slightly musty odor.

Nice older hotel in a great neighborhood. 2Q room was good sized and everything was clean. Bathroom was charming with pink tile. This is an older facility but kept up well. The top floor was quiet but water pressure was weak. Two parking garages available within a block for ~$25/day and close to public transportation - two bus routes within a few minutes and train station about a 10 minute walk. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Location is great and that was my priority. But if you are accustomed to amenities, etc you may be disappointed. For example, some basic items that need some attention: - in shower never gets really warm and the pressure very weak. - My room window looked onto a brick wall about 4 feet away —- for the price I was a bit shocked that I wasn’t at least warned. - And there wasn’t even a complimentary water upon checkin. - there was one particular front desk employee that had a huge RBF. The others were excellent and made you feel welcomed but the one with the RBF brought the energy down.

Old hotel in pretty good condition, but the radiator/ heating system was really noisy (woke us up all night long).

The only negative is a tiny room with AC Units so high on the wall I had to stand on the bed in order to adjust the temperature. And I am 6 foot tall. LOL. It was clean and quiet with the bear minimum in a tiny room with a small bed. So far short, I think it’s fine. For a long stay, I’d be asking for a much bigger room.

The old building gave it a quaint feel, but the room itself was tiny; very little room to move. The bathroom was very narrow and hard to move in, and it was very humid as the air didn’t flow well.

Check in was great. The lobby was super cute. This is a very old building. There have been updates but the bathrooms are still dated. Walking in your room was muggy and stale. We turned up the window unit. When we got back it was better but still not great. The location was amazing. Lots of great restaurants in walkable distance. For the price I thought it was a good value.

Very quaint and very very noisy. A little dingy but rooms were clean. Not a bad stay for the location/price.

It was a little loud. They have radiators that whistled all night, and wither the group upstairs or across the alley were up all night partying.

There was a super sweet receptionist when we arrived (evening of 8/14) who assisted us with dining suggestions around the area & answered all of our questions (he was friendly and professional). This is how most of there staff was except for one woman who snapped at my friend for asking for extra towels (on the night of 8/15) maybe she was just having a bad day but she was not very helpful or hospitable (and actually came off as quite rude). Overall it was a clean and comfortable place to stay despite the interiors being a bit dated. I just wish they would update the bathrooms a bit and add some counter space or shelves to it for placing items. Otherwise, I would probably stay here again as the location was pretty neat!

Honestly this Hotel was very disappointing! From pictures and outside looked very nice and good place to stay. And actually is a nice hotel but the service provided was terrible! When arrived the guy on front desk instead of greating us just looked at us and told us can you moved away from door in a rude way! Our reservation had a free bottle of wine which he never mentioned until we asked later on the day. We were offered no housekeeping service during stay and had to even go ask for toilet paper. When checked out, I specific asked the girl that I wanted to make sure I didn't get charge for the bottle wine she didn't even bothered checking, cause she was soo busy on phone with a personal call talking about her next day off and some reservations. She just say oh no you're not.Well hours later I get a notification I have new charge's from them for a missing bottle wine! Smh . The hotel stayed was okay but honestly they're customers service is very bad our at least towards us maybe our skin color? But very disappointing on the service from everyone in hotel. Only 2 agents were nice and would be very friendly when you walked in. Also they're website mentioned parking and they don't have parking on site, you have to pay in a garage which came out as pricey as everywhere else! But definitely would not recommend it or would ever stayed here again. Very poor customer service and the cleaning was not good at all.My trip was extended and we had to go find another hotel in same area.

This will be our go-to hotel when we go to Chicago. The staff are super friendly and helpful, the rooms are nice, warm cookies in the afternoon, great location. Thanks to Tony, Adrian, and Mario for the great service and warm welcome!

Absolutely not a good stay! The manager and the staff are just unprofessional! In particular, the manager is very unprofessional. I called the manager repeatedly to no avail. I was told “she doesn’t call customers back. You will have to call her when she’s available.” Once I did speak with her, she confirms that she has too many calls and doesn’t have to call customers back. Additionally, a night desk clerk named Zach was simply dismissive. He seemed bothered when asked questions, always on his cell phone and would not make eye contact when customers returned to the hotel. A shame, such a nice area and hotel. The lack of customer service takes away from enjoying the hotel and neighboring sites.

The receptionist/clerk at check in seemed irritated and perturbed by our need to check in. She never once smiled. About 30 minutes after check in, a couple tried to gain entry to our room. They were given our room, as well. I called down to the receptionist/clerk who placed me on hold while the couple stood at the door(a good 10 minutes). Eventually she came back and stated that it was her fault; she gave them our room, too. I sent the couple back to her explaining this. The next morning, as I’m getting ready to leave for church and check out and head to the airport, I notice there is no hair dryer. I call the front desk and am informed that there is nothing that can be done about it until maintenance arrives at 9am. This does me no good as I have to leave before then. So I left with wet hair. Overall, the property is nice and the location is great. But the staff and service leave much to be desired.

The stay was very good. The hotel is well-maintained and the staff is very attentive. I would stay at The Willows Hotel again. Note: I am waiting a refund of the USD 100.00 deposit paid at check-in.

We had some terrible luck with the hotels we booked on this trip - the first one was out of hot water, and the second one we couldn't even check into because there was no front desk staff and they tried to charge us an additional $130 on arrival thru text. We quickly booked the Willows Hotel at the last minute, and it was a night and day difference. The concierge was waiting for us when we arrived, and helped us get checked in fast and easily. The staff was friendly and the rooms had a lot of space. We were traveling with 2 young children so this was key - they loved it and want to come back to stay. We will definitely stay there again!

Check in took much too long. The two credit card readers were both malfunctioning so much that I got a fraud alert while standing there. Our room overlooked the back alley and at 7:40 a.m. (a Wednesday) we were awakened by a trash truck for 10 minutes of emptying dumpsters. The radiator heat was hard to control so the room was very hot. Other than all of that, it's a nice, clean, old hotel.

Our stay at Millow Hotel was very good overall. The lady at the front desk was extremely kind and helpful — she went out of her way to help us find a taxi at 3 a.m. when my Uber app wasn’t working and we needed to get to the airport. Honestly, we don’t know what we would have done without her! The room was comfortable and the experience was nice. As an architect, I noticed a few small finishing details in the bathroom that could be improved, but other than that, everything was great.

I will start by saying I’m unfamiliar with Chicago and decided on this location because it was about equidistance between two places I visited during my stay. Keep this in mind as I’m only comparing this to other cities I’ve stayed in. The cost felt like robbery for a disappointing room and awful customer service. The room was frigid cold when I got in: I turned on the heat and my room smelt so bad (maybe urine?) that I just turned the unit off. Honestly: the room had an odor overall, like it was a stuffy room with drunk and sweaty guests staying there previous nights. The walls were so thin I could hear everything from both my nextdoor and upstairs neighbors, which was unpleasant since they woke me up at 5am. Customer service was poor. The gentleman who was working when I arrived was beyond rude, more like shockingly impolite to the point where it turned my mood sour. I honestly can’t recall a time I’ve ever had anyone be so blatantly rude in the hotel industry to me. Fortunately the woman who worked after him the same day was much nicer. I suspect the nice mid-day lady works in a toxic workplace. I am glad I only had to stay there one night. This hotel makes me question whether Chicago is worth visiting again. Even though I was a tourist new to Chicago, at the price I paid I would have expected a comfortable nights rest, welcoming customer service, and a cleaner room.

Would definitely stay here again if coming to Chicago but not staying downtown. Close to Lake Michigan and plenty of dining options. Area around hotel was quiet and safe.

Location is excellent. We visited for a concert at Wrigley Field which was a 20 min walk away. Hotel close to N Broadway with lots of bars and restaurants near by. The lake is a short walk away. Hotel is a typical 3 star but the staff are 5 star! So helpful and friendly. In my opinion the hotel is ideal for a stay in the city.

We've stayed here twice and both times were great. The location is convenient to Wrigleyville, which is where we spent a lot of time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking was in the garage close by. Lots of shops and restaurants close by. We would definitely stay here again.

The Willows Hotel is in a nice area. It has easy access to public transit. The building is cute and with a classic feel. It was nice having access to tea and coffee at any time of day. Bonus points for the hotel having a dedicated hot water pot that doesn’t taste like old coffee when you’re a tea drinker.

The staff was very friendly and welcoming (without being creepy) and the room was comfortable, if on the small side. It's an older hotel with character, which I see as a positive. The only downside to the room was that it didn't have a coffee maker in the room and coffee wasn't available downstairs until 6:30. It was relatively conveniently located to DePaul and there were food options nearby.

The hotel has a tremendous amount of old school charm. The lobby area is a wonderful space and the fresh baked cookies in the evening were on point. So many bar and restaurant options and easy to connect to mass transit.

The hotel was aesthetically pleasing from the exterior to the common areas. The rooms were a bit dated but clean and well stocked. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I had a decent cup of coffee (available 24 hours) before I left at 5am.

Loved having the bottles of wine available (for purchase, but still) in the room. Super helpful staff. Clean and comfortable, close to many places. Will definitely go back!

A perfect stay!!! The staff were friendly and inviting. The hotel is decorated so cute. The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean and well-provisioned with everything we needed. The neighborhood is perfect for walking- so many nearby parks, the lake, and delicious restaurants. We ate at The Happy Lamb, and Cubaneo. Both were delicious! Parking is nearby ($25/day) and very convenient. Can unload in front of the hotel for 15 min, and then park. Highly recommend this hotel and this area of Chicago

I've stayed at this property twice and each stay has been enjoyable. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Love the walkable neighborhood. The water pressure is terrible and there's no coffee in the room. Other than that, no complaints. I look forward to visiting again.

Liked nearly everything about this facility, with one exception...there is no type of free breakfast. Even considering covid precautions, they could serve packaged, sealed options.

Lovely, older but clean, friendly. Water pressure was really low, so that made things challenging. No coffee in the rooms, so that was annoying. Other than that really good.
