Holiday Inn Express Horse Cave by IHG

Great place to stay close to Mammoth Cave NP. Pool area is tired and no more hot tub, just FYI. Check-in staff member was really nice. Breakfast missed on a couple items (ran out of milk for cereal and the pancake machine didn’t work), but still had breakfast, which was efficient.

We booked the hotel with intent to swim in the pool. When we checked in, we were told the pool was closed for maintentance but would be open later. When i looked later, yes it was open, but the water was very cloudy and there was stuff, like algae or something, floating all over the bottom of the pool. I would never put my child in a pool that dirty. The room had been cleaned, but wasnt amazing. There was still hair in the tub and the carpet was so stained and dirty. The breakfast was good. The bedding seemed clean. Area seemed safe.

The hotel had some wear and tear to it. A couple places in the room and along the hallways needed repaired (small dents, dings, chips) to the paint and such. No hot tub was a letdown. The breakfast was very good and the remodeled lobby was nicely done. I think the price is a little high per night but otherwise everything was fine for a family weekend getaway.

Convenient location/comfortable beds. Fair for the price. Terrible maintenance, odor in carpets, not enough bath towels for 4 people in room- had to call front desk for more…Then was told to come to front desk and get them. Frustrating since elevator was broke. Hot tub jets also broke.

The side door to the building (the emergency exit on the first floor) was always open so anyone from the outside could get in the building. I closed it more than once. The staff were great and friendly. Exercise area was great. Really appreciated the building was smoke free.

Rooms were clean. Housekeeping staff and some front desk staff was friendly. Breakfast was good most days. One day it tasted very salty. There was a day that the trash cans entering the building were overflowing and the trash cans in the breakfast area were also overflowing. The front doors sometimes would start to close on you. One day they closed half way and stopped. There use to be a hot tub on site and you can still see it in some pictures but it has been filled in. The pool was cloudy and greenish.

Carpet in hallway filthy. So many stains on the carpet you couldn’t see the real carpet. Definitely need new carpet. Elevator un sanitary. Pool closed. “ possibly open after the maintenance man comes at 4 or so. Pool open at 615. Closed at 8. 25 kids then waiting to get in. big fuzz balls in the hallway in front of our room. The prior evening stayed at a holiday inn express the pool closed for routine yearly inspection. Staff very good.

Staff was friendly. Pool was absolutely freezing and there was not any pool towels. Picture on internet showed a hot tub that ended up being filled in with cement to our surprise. Crickets in room. Hallways were filthy. Pancake and apple juice machines were out of order both days we were there. Overall just rundown and not worth the money.

Didn’t stay. Found dead bedbug and left immediately. Still getting run around from hotel on the hold they put on card. Stay away don’t recommend.

The hotel was pleasant and spotless. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the pillows were top-notch.

The lobby staff was great . Very friendly and offered great tips on things to do. The room was not cleaned well however. The bathroom had hair in tub, used q-tip behind toilet and the nightstand had sticky water marks on it from drinks. Overall would go again if they spend a little more time cleaning.

Our room was decently clean when we arrived. The hallways were dirty and needed swept badly (the whole week). The window seals had dead bugs in them , like a lot of dead bugs. The breakfast was ok, but we could have dealt with a change in what was served day to day.... Everyday was the same breakfast. The last day finally had a different kind of muffin other than chocolate, so that was nice. Overall, we had a nice stay. Their coffee is really yummy. We would stay again. All of the staff was very kind and welcoming. We had a nice week.

Room decor was well done. Not only was the room poorly cleaned, there was crud in the elevator and the track for the door. Yucky!

This property was horrible from the beginning. We arrived late and they had put us in a “no show” list so we no longer had our reservation. They already had a hold on our card. Then she had to make a new reservation for us but she had to call someone on the phone because she was new and there by herself at night. Then our card got charged again. After waiting to get in our rooms for an hour. We all go to our rooms to sleep and as soon as I layed down I started getting bit by bed bugs. I jump up and go downstairs to tell the front desk and she tells me that we can just go pile in the other room that we have all together. We had 7 people and 2 rooms. Then when someone gets there at 8am they could clean another room for us. This was at about 4:30am. There was no manager on site.

Room cleaning, carpets are dirty and black

This facility was very dirty for a Holiday Inn, especially the entrance, hallways, and elevator. The bathtub had a slimy film and was not clean. The parking is a small lot. No good if if you are pulling a trailer.

The hotel was pleasant and spotless. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the pillows were top-notch.

The rooms floor was so dirty and stained. The p-tac unit would kick on and sound like it was going to fall out of the wall. Very very noisy. There was a black discoloration on the ceiling in the bathroom. Asked for clean wash rags and towels for the 2nd night of stay. Never made it

There were stains all over the carpet in our room. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable things ever. The thermostat used to be on the wall- now it is a window unit. No problem. The back of the thermostat is still on the wall.

The room was clean. However the bed was not comfortable and just sitting on the bed it squeaked. The shower was very slippery. Woke up feeling very congested. I stay in many holiday in express this one needs some updates

Very small rooms, pool closes extremely early, very old hotel with a fresh coat of paint. But one of a few options in this area.

Maybe the loudest hotl I've ever stayed in explains the white noise machine in the room.

It wasn’t a very nice hotel. The sink in the bathroom wouldn’t drain. Lots of noise from the freeway. The shower wasn’t working properly either.

This hotel is a great option for those wanting to visit Mammoth Caves National Park. It’s located off the highway, so easy access. Our room was very clean and with extra space and plenty of storage. WiFi works great too.

To start out, the young lady at the desk was very nice. After that, not so much. Since we made our reservations on Hotels.com we could not cancel. My wife and I were looking to relax and have a swim in the pool and hot tub. Upon arriving we were told that the pool was closed and the hot tub did not exist (there is a picture on the Hotels site). We wanted to cancel, but we couldn't. I needed to leave a credit card on file for "incedentals". Later that night I got a notice from my credit card that I had been charged $95.00 for the room. I had already paid on Hotels.com, yet I was charged again. I spoke to the young lady at the desk, she assured me that it would be removed the next day. The next morning I asked again, a different young lady (polite) told me she would take care of it and call me after she talked to the manager. No call, and now I am on my third day talking to the front desk. The charge was finally removed, 4 days later. I don't give bad reviews normally, but it must have been the "perfect storm". Booked this stay a month ahead of time. Drove 6hrs only to find out that the hotel had overbooked themselves for the weekend. Our reservation had been given away and they had no rooms available. I find this simply unacceptable! The front desk blamed this on Hotels.com. But I think the hotel is simply booking first come first served. Which I can understand if you haven't made a reservation a month in advance. But I had already paid for my stay. So I should have had a room and not forced to drive another hour and a half to find a hotel with a vacancy.

We arrived 40 minutes to regular check in time. The clerk at the desk said we could not early check in unless we were members. We are. She gave us a room overlooking/next to the highway. I asked to be changed to the front because of the noise from the highway. I was told that there were no rooms available on the front of the property like the one I booked. I asked 3 separate times if there was anyway we could have our room changed. The answer was NO. I decided to look at the room before we unloaded our belongings. It smelled like mold, beds weren’t made correctly and there was trash on the counter in the bathroom. I asked my husband to look at it as well. He came back and said to me we are going to leave this hotel, this is unacceptable. My husband then proceeded to go back to the same clerk at the front desk only this time a manager was with her. He mentioned that the room was unacceptable, not clean, smelled, the window was broken and it was too noisy. The manager said “Of course, yes it’s noisy back there”. And you guessed it… there was a room available. The clerk had LIED. Not once but 3 separate times but was able to find a room when the manager was present. She kept saying she “must have misunderstood me.” The fact of the matter is this clerk lied. The new room we were given was clean and quiet. It was like a different hotel. The 1st room was disgusting and our experience with the initial check in was terrible. The manager was great and we appreciated his help.

Michael at the front desk was funny and really set the tone for a nice stay

The manager helped me with a schedule issue because of a flight problem at Louisville. Very grateful for the shift and understanding given the importance in being here that weekend.

Friendly staff and good amenities.

I prepaid for 3 rooms a month in advance and when I arrived I was told that they oversold and they gave away my rooms.

The property was somewhat away from any other amenities to walk to. A car is needed to drive across the freeway to where other restaurants and stores are, only 1-2 miles. The staff here were ALL very friendly from the checking to the maintenance staff. We were greeted each time we returned to the lobby whenever an employee saw us.

Pros: Clean, comfortable, friendly staff Cons: Had to drive to the next town over to find something to eat.

Close to the national park and all the things to do but far enough away you could sleep and not hear all the activity

Very easy on off freeway close to sites

We very much enjoyed our stay. Everything was what we needed. No complaints, staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was nice. We didn't know the area and were just driving around on a expedition of Americana! Not much to do around the hotel, but a freeway exit or two away go more options. We would stay again. We are just learning the area. We came down and explored Horse Cave City, Cave City, Mammoth Cave and Hidden River Cave. We loved our trip.

Clise to attractions. Easy to get in and out off to interstate hwy.

The hotel is nice, updated & clean. The indoor pool was a nice plus. They had a lot of nice breakfast options, cheese omelette, biscuits & gravy, sausage, pancakes. Check in / out were fast & easy. There is only a gas station that you can walk to, no restaurants or any place to buy beer. That was the only down side. The hotel itself was very nice & a good deal

Breakfast was not good. There were no plates or working pancake maker and food and coffee creamer was running out both days with no refills. There was hardly anything to eat when I went to breakfast an hour prior before it was supposed to end. Just not stocked well.

The breakfast was good, but not everything's replaced immediately after its stock is finished. The re-stocking was very slow and sometime needed to reached out to person make them call.

We stayed there for a Family Wedding Weekend and it was perfect! Great Breakfast!

We lived our room bed was comfortable Sheets soft. Loved the set up of the King with sofa bed. Loved the breakfast. The fresh ground coffee was delicious. The staff was great. Easiest check in ever.

The staff were very friendly and courteous, the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We were right across from the pool but it wasn't noisy at all. The breakfast was good, but food ran out quickly. We would stay here again.

Rooms were very clean and the beds extremely comfortable. Breakfast was great, even though the hotel was completely booked they managed to keep the breakfast items well stocked with delicious food options.
