The Pontchartrain definitely has its charms, from a lovely and eclectic lobby to the three excellent restaurant options in the hotel, but our time there also had several pitfalls. At check in, we were given a wifi password, but the wifi was open and public - there was no option to use faster locked wifi anywhere or to use the password. This was unfortunately poor internet security. We were given two waters at check in for the whole stay and some drink tickets we were told were complimentary but were actually included in the amenities fee and we didn't use them. There wasn't any mention of the amenities fee that is on the website at check in or check out, so we assumed it was bundled into the price we paid for our rooms...it was not. It's $25 USD/day for the water (2), the wifi (which was open), cleaning, drinks (2) etc. separate from the room fee, which I really wish we had've known in advance instead of receiving an unexpected charge the day after we left. The ceiling in our bathroom also started leaking on the first night and plaster began raining down on the toilet. When we made mention of this, there was no option to move rooms because the hotel was full and the repairs couldn't be completed until we left, so the only thing we were offered was a patch job to prevent further fallout - no compensation. If I had've known about the amenities fee, I would have requested it at least be waived for the day we had to spend outside of our room for that patch job to be completed.

Excellent location! Easy access to the streetcar, walkable to Magazine St. While the rooms are quiet, the hotel has two fun bars and a cute cafe to get coffee/breakfast. This would be my pick for a return trip. Easy check in and out, beautiful lobby, historic charm. Great experience.

The room was nicely furnished and comfortable. Staff was a little inattentive. Amenities (shampoo, coffee,etc.) were sparse. Great music in the downstairs bar, unfortunately didn’t get to go to the rooftop bc it was closed in the morning and only 21+ when open so my 18 year old son couldn’t go see the view. That was disappointing.

Such a relaxing getaway! The bed and robe was sooooo comfy! In a relaxing and safe part of New Orleans—just walk out front and take the streetcar to Canal Street and you don’t have to park in the French Quarter! The streetcar pass is $3 per person and good for 24 hours! Can’t beat it—views and easy in/out to French quarter! It is $55 a night for valet parking (but so safe and worth it).

One of only two elevators in service. Not one piece of furniture in room matched and all picture on walls were not straight. But bed was comfortable.. the whole room kinda worked. Roof bar was on floor 14 but elevator (1 of 2) only went to 11. View looked over city in distance but also looked onto considerable electrical and AC equipment. Guess what do you expect for 100 year old building?!? All in all, a nice place however!

The photos made me think there was more lounging with friends and family space in the hotel, but there is none of that at all. We were worried when we first arrived because it seemed like a loud, party-type of place, but our room was comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping. Luckily we found street parking nearby for our two vehicles as the hotel only offers valet and it is $55 per night per vehicle. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable with the only issues being very thin blankets on the beds and no fan in the bathroom. My daughter also wished there was an outlet in the hall near the full length mirror where she did her hair and makeup. Also: please put towel hooks right by the shower curtain. There is plenty of room for them.

The rooms were not clean, there was no ventilation in the room, they were old and musty, they charge you a ridiculous Resort fee that gives you little to nothing in exchange, the bathroom amenities were lacking, it was hard to adjust the temperature in the room. There's a cute Bar and Restaurant in the building that's probably their best asset.

We were really looking forward to our stay at the Pontchartrain Hotel (6/21–6/22/25), but our experience was incredibly disappointing. Our room was not clean — trash behind the toilet, dust on most surfaces, and something visibly dripping down the bedroom window and sill. The bathroom had dirty grout, a soaking wet shower curtain, and floors that left our feet filthy. Worst of all, the bedroom windowsill was soft, leaking, and covered in black mold — a serious health concern and clear sign of neglect. The valet service was even worse. Our manual-transmission car came back smelling like burning plastic. A staff member admitted the valet didn’t know how to drive stick but drove it anyway — twice. The next day, no one on staff could drive a manual, so my fiancé had to retrieve the car himself, even though we were being charged nearly $60 for valet. That fee was only refunded after we raised the issue multiple times. When we reported everything to hotel management, including Javonna Wallace, we were told nothing could be done because we booked through Hotels.com. Even after Hotels.com tried to help, the hotel refused all offers of partial compensation. Between unsafe conditions, mold, and car mishandling, we cannot recommend this hotel. Room smelled very moldy/musty. My allergies acted up and got progressively worse during my stay. Carpet did not appear clean and surfaces were dusty through our stay. Clock was set wrong, toiletries and coffee missing (had to ask every day) and safe was locked. Bathroom was super basic and shower head kept falling. Front desk doesn’t answer and I had to get dressed and go down at 2:00 AM to get the WiFi password. I messaged the property twice in the days leading up to our arrival requesting the two twins be combined to a king so we could have two large beds. I received no response whatsoever. After several attempts to call I was told it was not possible. A Response to my requests before the cancellation period would have been greatly appreciated as this was important to us. When I checked in I was offered a downgrade and encouraged to look at the double room instead. My daughter needs her own room to study in so I turned it down and the gentleman at the front desk (who was very nice) asked if I was sure. Upon checkout when I mentioned the mold/mustiness, front desk person did not seem surprised and did not react at all. Also, the bars are very active and the one working elevator was not available at night as a result. Given the large number of people coming in and out, we didn’t feel safe because key access was not required for room floors so anyone could just linger around. The stairwell was well lit but would rather not had to take it.

The staff were courteous, and the location—right on St. Charles and steps from a streetcar stop—is excellent. Unfortunately, the hotel itself does not deliver a 4-star experience. I’m not sure it even rises to the level of a strong 3-star at this point; it feels noticeably worn and in need of meaningful refurbishment. Housekeeping did their best, but they’re fighting an uphill battle. The amount of dust and debris in the room—including a used tissue under one of our beds—suggests the property needs a true deep cleaning so the daily cleaning staff can keep up. Several operational issues also detracted from our stay. This was the first hotel where I could not receive a folio at checkout. We did leave one night early, but it was still unusual to have to wait a full day for the bill. Additionally, we were issued only a single physical key to the room, which made logistics difficult when our family needed to split up and felt risky if that one key were misplaced. Overall, the hotel has potential, but it is not currently delivering a premium, 4-star experience. Unfortunately, most of our conversations during the stay revolved around wishing we had booked the Ritz instead—perhaps not a perfect comparison (five-star vs. a claimed four-star), but the difference in quality was significant, while the difference in price was not.

The bed was very comfortable and the location was just what I was looking for - but - - I was expecting a city view - the room was prepaid through Expedia but 3 additional 'holds' were placed on my Visa card totalling over $1700.00 and one was added the day AFTER we checked out. - the carpet was so dirty that our bare feet and socks turned brown on the bottom and left dirty footprints on the tile floor in the bathroom - furnishing were old and uncomfortable - lighting was not good - pillows were very small - cafe open untial 11AM and restaurant not opend mon - Wed. onsight restaurant and cafe were the main reason for choosing this hotel - overall I was not happy

Loved the convenience of The Pontchartrain and the restaurants, rooftop bar and breakfast/coffee shop. However, for the price, I did not find it to be worth the amount spent. Rooms could use some updating, especially carpet in rooms and hallways and only one of the two elevators was working with staff stating it could take months before it is repaired. Customer service was excellent and food/drinks were delicious I was just not overly pleased with the quality of the room for the rate charged.

The location of this hotel is great, the restaurants and bars inside of the hotel were awesome however the room, mattress, linens, and bathroom are in dire need of an update. The windows are painted shut and the AC was extremely loud and ran continuously.

What we loved about staying here - the location (right by the Trolley on St. Charles), walkable to many restaurants, great Jazz bar and restaurant, great rooftop patio and old world charm with a twist of hipster. The shower pressure was amazing! Staff were really helpful and nice. What we did not love - the rooftop bar turns into a college hangout after 8pm, the rooms are a bit dim and outdated because it's an old building. I requested a city view but on the third floor our windows were treated so we could not see out. They offered to move us but I was too tired to switch. All in all I enjoyed our stay and would consider staying again because of the location and restaurant/bars.

Loved the asthetic of the property. Old but very clean and beautifly done. Beds were very comfy. The room was a very good size and the bathroom was huge. Close walking distance to restaurants and a very nice stroll during the day to see some beautiful homes. We would definitely stay again.

The hotel has a cool vibe for sure. I get that it’s an older, restored building and part of the reason you stay here is for that charm. But it felt a bit grimy, to be honest. Elevator worked about 50% of the time and we were on the 10th floor. AC/heater is a wall unit akin to what you find in a motel 6. We had a city view, but the windows had so much condensation we couldn’t see much. Bathroom was pretty subpar and felt the age of the building. Shower just has a dainty curtain so water gets everywhere. Gaps in the grouting all over it. Water pressure goes from ok to terrible every 30 seconds so it takes forever to shower. Temperature was good, though. Walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors and people in the hall. Street noise was minimal. Location is great for the streetcar and garden district. Staff were all kind and friendly. Bed is actually comfy, but the pillows and seating in the room are not so much. Overall, it was a good stay. But by no means is this a luxury experience.

The bed was very comfortable and the location was just what I was looking for - but - - I was expecting a city view - the room was prepaid through Expedia but 3 additional 'holds' were placed on my Visa card totalling over $1700.00 and one was added the day AFTER we checked out. - the carpet was so dirty that our bare feet and socks turned brown on the bottom and left dirty footprints on the tile floor in the bathroom - furnishing were old and uncomfortable - lighting was not good - pillows were very small - cafe open untial 11AM and restaurant not opend mon - Wed. onsight restaurant and cafe were the main reason for choosing this hotel - overall I was not happy

Not sure how this gets the reviews it does for the nightly price. It is a cool OLD hotel, but definitely doesn’t warrant a 9.4. The rooms are large and comfortable but furniture is worn and there is a musty smell throughout. We had to move rooms at 8:30pm because we had no hot water. They gave us free breakfast for our troubles which was nice, but it gave us a chance to see another room (and we found it to be the same as our first room- worn) The rooftop bar has a really cool vibe to it, but we chose to eat and drink in the lobby bar bc it was windy. The food and drinks at the bar were delicious, just a little pricey. For the old school charm I would rate this hotel a 7.4

The photos made me think there was more lounging with friends and family space in the hotel, but there is none of that at all. We were worried when we first arrived because it seemed like a loud, party-type of place, but our room was comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping. Luckily we found street parking nearby for our two vehicles as the hotel only offers valet and it is $55 per night per vehicle. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable with the only issues being very thin blankets on the beds and no fan in the bathroom. My daughter also wished there was an outlet in the hall near the full length mirror where she did her hair and makeup. Also: please put towel hooks right by the shower curtain. There is plenty of room for them.

I have mixed feelings about our stay at the hotel. The hotel did allow us to move our reservation during the recent snow storm without any additional fee, for which we were very grateful. We had a great time at the various restaurants and bars that are on property. Unfortunately, most everything else was disappointing. The front desk staff ranged from indifferent to downright hostile, they charged us for parking and an extra night stay (we had no car and had prepayed for our entire stay) and as other folk have noted - room photos are likely many years old. It's important to note that the rooms are locked with old school keys and you are required to leave your key with the front desk everytime you leave the hotel. We had several items stolen from our room during our stay. When we tried to work with the hotel on either recovering our items or figuring out how someone may have gotten into our room, we were told several things: 1. We checked with housekeeping and they don't have your items, if you can't track your items then you can't prove they were taken, and as a hotel we have never had this problem before. I'm not sure how other hotels deal with stolen items but these folks seem not interested in customer service or taking accountability for what seems to be, if you read other reviews, an ongoing problem. Stay at your own risk.

Started out poorly with a stressful check in. They didn't have my reservation, even after sharing all of the details of my Hotels.com confirmation. They eventually figured it out, but not until they first made us think we'd be stranded for a night. Great restaurants and bars... room was okay, but very musty smelling...as it's an older hotel.

Rude staff. Called prior to arrival to cancel my stay and the person on the other end repeatedly hung up on me. When I stated I was contacting my financial institution if charged, I was told go ahead, it wouldn't stop anything.

When checking out of the hotel please get a statement from the Front Desk. I left the hotel on Sunday and that Tuesday I was charged for snacks and water that I did not purchase. I had to call and get a refund for the snack items. This is utterly ridiculous and will never stay at that hotel again. If it was done to me who else, they are doing this too.

Real real real issues with my booking and checking in. I understand that checking in early is not guaranteed, but we arrived early in the morning, they did hold our luggage for us; however, the front desk agent kept telling us to check back and we could possibly check in early. Came back 4 or 5 times, kept getting told maybe, they would call us. Only to come back at the check in time, right on the money, and they had no room for us yet?!? We waited for an hour and it wasn't until we spoke up did they scramble and find us a room. Super frustrating and almost missed our reservation for a show. This room was booked months in advance also. We saw 4 different couples come in and get their key before us, checking in at the same time.

I enjoyed the multiple excellent dining options and rooftop bar. This is very convenient for guests. I also enjoyed the location, which is in the scenic and historic Garden District, away from the craziness of the French Quarter. Service was average to good as we had a delayed checkin by about 1.5 hours due to our room not being ready; it seems like they may have staffing issues. However, the staff was helpful and arranged a cab to the airport. The neighborhood does have some homeless individuals that panhandle near the hotel, so be careful when walking around. I would certainly come back and stay here again.

The staff were courteous, and the location—right on St. Charles and steps from a streetcar stop—is excellent. Unfortunately, the hotel itself does not deliver a 4-star experience. I’m not sure it even rises to the level of a strong 3-star at this point; it feels noticeably worn and in need of meaningful refurbishment. Housekeeping did their best, but they’re fighting an uphill battle. The amount of dust and debris in the room—including a used tissue under one of our beds—suggests the property needs a true deep cleaning so the daily cleaning staff can keep up. Several operational issues also detracted from our stay. This was the first hotel where I could not receive a folio at checkout. We did leave one night early, but it was still unusual to have to wait a full day for the bill. Additionally, we were issued only a single physical key to the room, which made logistics difficult when our family needed to split up and felt risky if that one key were misplaced. Overall, the hotel has potential, but it is not currently delivering a premium, 4-star experience. Unfortunately, most of our conversations during the stay revolved around wishing we had booked the Ritz instead—perhaps not a perfect comparison (five-star vs. a claimed four-star), but the difference in quality was significant, while the difference in price was not.

Gorgeous, historic, beautiful, wonderful hotel. Definitely a destination even if you are not staying there - the restaurant and rooftop bar and live Jazz music were incredible. It was a very nice quiet place to stay, since it is in the Garden district rather than downtown. The trolley stops right outside the hotel. Need to uber to downtown New Orleans, though, unless you are up for a long (beautiful) walk. On the plus side, Uber drivers in Nola are like 2nd tour guides - very friendly and informative.

We loved The Pontchartrain hotel! This historic hotel is located in the beautiful garden district. The neighborhood is full of beautiful historic homes and close to magazine street where you can find lots of shopping and cute cafes. The St Charles Streetcar line is right across the street from the hotel making it very convenient to get around town.

Such a relaxing getaway! The bed and robe was sooooo comfy! In a relaxing and safe part of New Orleans—just walk out front and take the streetcar to Canal Street and you don’t have to park in the French Quarter! The streetcar pass is $3 per person and good for 24 hours! Can’t beat it—views and easy in/out to French quarter! It is $55 a night for valet parking (but so safe and worth it).

Excellent location! Easy access to the streetcar, walkable to Magazine St. While the rooms are quiet, the hotel has two fun bars and a cute cafe to get coffee/breakfast. This would be my pick for a return trip. Easy check in and out, beautiful lobby, historic charm. Great experience.
Excellent location! Easy access to the streetcar, walkable to Magazine St. While the rooms are quiet, the hotel has two fun bars and a cute cafe to get coffee/breakfast. This would be my pick for a return trip. Easy check in and out, beautiful lobby, historic charm. Great experience.

Such a charming hotel! Old world style and elegance abounds! Silverwhistle Cafe was great for breakfast, and Jack Rose was exceptional - my server, Drea was attentive and offered amazing recommendations. I really can’t wait for my next trip. Thanks to all the staff for being so outgoing & friendly!

Amazing hotel, amazing bars and amazing food. It was a one stop shop and I would have been happy to never leave the hotel as the amenities were that great. Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in NOLA and would love to stay here again

When I decided to go to NOLA for a solo trip I knew I wanted to stay in a “boutique” property verses something large and commercial. The Pontchartrain came up in my search. The thing that attracted me right away were the aesthetics. I loved the colors and decorating style from the 1920s. I was not disappointed when I arrived! I loved my room. I loved the two restaurants I dined in regularly: 1. The Bayou and 2. The breakfast one across the hall (can’t remember the name). But try the grits, coddled egg and hollandaise breakfast with buttered toast. One of the most memorable breakfasts of my entire lifetime!! This hotel is also in a lovely location: the garden district, and a streetcar goes by right out front. I will definitely be going back to NOLA and this is where I will stay.

The staff was polite. Some more helpful than others. On my last day I was completely ignored by valet entering after my walk and leaving to head to the airport. Staff seemed to be annoyed with one another one mentioning that she was managing the front and guests because they were not answering. I wasn't impressed with my room and the toiletries were not le labo. I had to ask for it.

Second time staying at the Ponchartrain, and it was excellent. Keep in mind this is an older hotel so you’re getting vintage-ish furniture, great view of the city, rooftop bar, classic New Orleans vibes, large bathrooms, and fairly quiet rooms given the solid structure of the building. Staff is friendly and very helpful. And there is a coffee shop attached in case you’re too cooked to walk anywhere else for breakfast.
