Alexander Inn

The room was clean, the staff friendly. The location was convenient to places I wanted to see in Philadelphia. The “happy hour’ was good, breakfast was good. Drawbacks: the room was ice cold and we could not adjust the temperature. Parking was 3 city blocks away. Not convenient for bringing luggage to and from the hotel. No shuttle to/from parking. No place to pull up to the hotel to drop off luggage. The price was very reasonable for the location and distance to places of interest. I give it 3 stars. I would not stay there again, nor recommend it to anyone.

The location was good, the staff was friendly and the room was clean. However, it's in a very old building with poor insulation, and so on a hot day my room was very warm. Also, there is no on site parking, which makes this hotel very expensive for what you get out of it.

This place reminds of cheap rundown motels in 1990’s when I was in college. Parking was nightmare, no place to leave your car to check in. I had to walk ten minutes after I parked my vehicle in offsite parking garage at 11pm on Friday night paying $45 for 12 hours without in and out options. I could have stayed other nicer reputable hotels paying same rate per night with valet parking option for $50-$70.

It’s on a kind of busy street however it’s a nice, walkable neighborhood location near awesome restaurants, the subway and historical points of interest. The inn is a cool throwback in time. It’s clean & just the right amount of quirky and the staff is friendly. There’s a bodega right across the street for snacks, but keep in mind there was no mini fridge or microwave (at least not in my room). Small but adequate continental breakfast daily (wish the coffee was available 24/7) and a wine social in the evenings at the inn. Parking is at a garage about 3 blocks away and can be expensive. We were there over Memorial Day weekend to see Metallica so that may have factored in to the expense of the garage. If you’re in town for a concert or sports event, it’s a quick ride to the stadium venues on the subway. On a side note, you should not double park in front of the inn and go into the inn for checking in or whatever… don’t do this! Just don’t. Don’t even think it. The street is narrow and there is already parking on it and there’s a city bus that runs down that block. I saw 2 separate guests during my stay who did this and the bus just laid down the horn like crazy. it creates a big traffic jam and people who live on the block get (rightfully) pissed off. So be kind and think of the neighborhood. All in all it was a pretty cool stay and I’d definitely go back.

Hotel was very nice, but the breakfast was weak and underwhelming compared with other hotels I have stayed at. Though it worked, the elevator was very slow and creaky.

There is no parking for Alexander Inn. You have to pay to park in a lot a couple blocks away. That was the only downside to our stay.

This is a lovely old hotel in a fabulous section of Philadelphia. They've done wonderful updates so it is historic but somewhat modernized and tasteful. I have stayed here before but did not get there in time to enjoy the complimentary happy hour. I truly enjoyed it this time. And the included breakfast is one of the best I've ever had at a hotel. When caveat - Don't take them up on their offer for a discounted parking garage. The garage itself is very overpriced, even after their discount. There are other better options within a 5 block radius. Overall fantastic experience and highly recommend.

Love the architecture and the feeling of stepping back in time. The elevator was medieval. That's too far back in time.

The location was the best part as the hotel is literally in walking distance to almost everything. Overall the stay was decent but there was mold in my initial room which caused me to get very sick. They did offer a room immediately once I notified them so I will commend them on that. Staff were friendly and everything else was good.

Our second visit to the Alexander Inn and we would definitely return. The staff at the front desk are incredibly helpful. Breakfast was lovely and drinks in the evening were very welcome after a day of walking. The room was clean although could do with a deep clean.

Hotel rooms are filthy, dirty, old and rundown. And way overpriced. I’ll never stay there again.

When I told staff that the air conditioner was not working, I was told there was no maintenance staff on weekends so there was nothing that could be done. Shampoo had already been opened and had hair stuck to bottle.

The sheets were itchy and dirty, the room smelled awful. It's unfortunate the property is so terrible because the staff is above and beyond friendly.

Staff at this hotel is competent and friendly. The lobby fireplace is inviting. I suggest that bottled water be provided as the water from the faucet was very cloudy. Hotel is quiet however, throughout the night I heard water running from other rooms. Hotel is quaint with original wood and tile and seems maintained. Bathroom was clean. Hotel room could use some dusting and clean dust from corners of carpet in the room.

The Alexander Inn was just about perfect for my needs: I was seeing a friend in Philadelphia after almost 15 years and needed to be in that area. It is reasonably priced. The guy at check in was chill and personable. I like the complimentary wine-and-charcuterie event in the lounge from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM each day (I didn't partake, but it's welcoming, just the same). The room was just as I expected, nothing fancy but absolutely functional and comfortable. The ONE area crying out for improvement: WATER PRESSURE. I turned on the shower and thought "Am I being punked?!" It was a sad trickle, so weak that I almost considered going without showers while there, because there's no way that "pressure" could even remove soap or shampoo. Maybe it can be improved, maybe it can't, but guys, let people know ahead of time. It was something you might expect from a one-star, eastern European hostel...not a respectable hotel in downtown Philly.

Great location and our room had a wonderful view. The beds/pillow were not great. Very hard, lumpy mattresses and hard pillow. They emptied our rubbish but did not make up the beds which we thought was weird. We did love the location. Easy walk to most of what we wanted to see/do.

Fantastic location and very friendly staff. Internet service however was unacceptable; totally unable to follow or download anything from the internet. Hotel must correct this.

Lovely hotel and would stay here again. Wish they had coffee in the hotel room but it was downstairs so it was fine. Great location also! The views from our room were stunning!

Pros: location, friendly staff, free breakfast Cons: uncomfortable mattress, noise (you can hear people talking in the room next door, shower running and even footsteps above you AND trash gets picked up outside at 3:30am).

This a nice, quiet European-style hotel. Its a friendly place in a good location with reasonable prices. The rooms are small, but OK. the public areas show wear and tear (e.g. peeling wallpaper) and badly need refreshing. The major downside for me was not being able to control the air-conditioning. You have to get the front desk person to come up to make any change.

Friendly staff. The location of the hotel is close to all tourist attractions. However, due to the vintage of the hotel (per hotel staff) the ac system is too sensitive for customers to control them. Every time you need to change the room temp, you have to call the front desk to do so.

Very clean and neat. You get what you pay for! Cute, colonial entryway/ lobby with crackling fireplace. Very friendly front desk staff. Bedroom was much smaller than expected and furniture outdated but was clean and had all the needed amenities (shampoos, TV, blinds, closet, iron, hair dryer, mirror.) Only major complaint would be that the water pressure in the shower was terrible.

The best part of this property was Selina. The hotel was good for my day trip to the city. The twin bed was perfect for a quick rest before I had to get going. Selina was very accommodating since I requested an early check-in. We also had fun conversations about family and hobbies during breakfast and while I was waiting for my ride to leave. The hotel was good, but Selina makes the Alexander Inn truly shine.

Older place, but very nice. Excellent service at the front desk. Room was clean and the bed in good condition. Excellent location in downtown Philly.

From arrival to departure our experience at the Alexander Inn exceeded expectations! There would be no hesitations about a return visit. Strong accolades go to Jay, one of the desk reps. He helped with every request for input. A great employee.

Staff is so nice and accommodating. Love the nightly social hour! The fireplace in the lobby is a nice touch.

I cannot emphasize how lowly the staff at this hotel are. One staff member stands out especially for her vulgarity, ignorance, and hate, and that is that abomination that is called Selena. She literally threatened to kick me out of my room for politely asking to speak to her manager. While I stood up to her, and she ran away like the coward that she is, I would not wish this experience on anyone. Do not stay here - ever.

The front desk staff was friendly and welcoming, and this extended to the complimentary happy hour and breakfast, where guests can get to know other guests. The service was good, yet my room was not stocked with shampoo, soap, lotion, tissue, and toilet tissue after the first day of my stay, so I had to buy these items from a pharmacy.

Like that the area was close to public transportation. I did not like that I kept having trouble with flushing the toilet in room 606. I had to go to the front desk three times before the toilet was working properly. The lady at the front desk stated that she would take some money off my bill I have yet to see that happen. She claim that they were all booked and that there was not another room to moved me to.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was very spacious and we LOVED the classic charm. Breakfast was perfect nice selection. dining room and wine & cheese event was a nice touch. We loved our stay and will gladly book again for our next trip to Philly.

Staff was great. However, even with windows shut, there was tremendous amount of noise throughout the night from the street. Otherwise a great stay.

Our stay st the Alexander Inn was fantastic! We were looking for a place in the hubbub of downtown Philly and this place certainly delivered. Our room was gorgeous and spacious. Nothing was out of order or went wrong. The continental breakfast and complimentary beverages was a highlight. There is a parking garage down the street that they discount, but it is still fairly expensive. The Inn was close to public transportation and in a great central location to walk to Philly's many attractions. The staff was super friendly and helpful when we had questions. The frint desk staff and the staff who worked the breakfast room were all friendly. We stayed on the 3rd floor and there was certainly lots of noise from the street reaching our room during the daytime bit it quiets down at night. I will definitely be coming back next tome I am in Philly!

Perfectly located right in the middle of the Gayborhood! Their cocktail hour was super cute and the staff were especially friendly! Definitely recommend!!!

Convenient location for Kimmel Center and Philadelphia Orchestra

This cute boutique hotel is located in the heart of center City Philadelphia. Like everything else in center City, it's old but it's clean and the staff is super friendly. For my purposes it was incredibly conveniently located.

Plenty of variety in restaurants, close shopping. Accessible public transit

This property is where you want to be if you are visiting Philly without a car. We were able to get to all the tourist type areas on foot, and there are loads of great dining options nearby.

Everything was perfect, but if I have to find a fault, it is that the breakfast is quite limited in variety. They offer snacks in the afternoons and it is also quite limited in variety. When we went to the dining room, they had barely been serving for 15 minutes and there was no cheese left. We were waiting for half an hour and they never put any on.

The only downside was the breakfast. They did not have cream or 1/2 & 1/2 for their coffee. Only 2% milk or little packets of powered cream. That was unacceptable!

Girl at breakfast seemed overwhelmed with quite a few guests all at once. Please fix the coffee dispensing units. Had to do a lot of pumping. There are better coffee pots available to inns. Check in was slow due to a perceived problem with our room but apparently that room wasn’t ours. We were early so it wasn’t a big problem for us but seemed avoidable. The room was nice, good view, and comfortable. Staff was friendly.

Great location, daily breakfast and evening socials were enjoyable.

The only thing I regret is that there is no refrigerator in the room, but everything else is great. If you're okay with a light dinner, they offer a complimentary food with wine and hors d'oeuvres. It saved me a lot of money.

Everything about my vacation was elite except for the breakfast. Dry old bagels, old cereal no one eats, a small plate of fruit and awful coffee. I have no idea how a business charges what they do and offers such poor food options in the morning.
