Great overall stay - Clean property with friendly staff, very attentive breakfast staff, a wonderful hot breakfast (biscuits, gravy, eggs, waffles, coffee). Pool was well kept and clean, and the hot tub was even better! Cons: Noise level, heard too many outside conversations through my room. Almost all hotels have this issue though. Very well priced hotel for the value you get, they even have an outdoor patio to sit by, and a fireplace/area that is open until 9 or 10pm which the staff can light for you. --For anyone new to Hill City: Most of the restaurants in town are pretty bad quality, including overpriced, low-quality foods. Average burger costs $17-20. Avoid Hill City Cafe, one of the worst food places there. "With the Wind" has decent food.

Room was clean, breakfast was great, pool area was clean. Pool water was a bit cold, and hot tub had a crack in it which prevented it from staying completely full. The room we were in lacked adequate areas to hang towels. There was a large gap (~1”) under the room door to the outside which I felt was unacceptable. We had to put a towel in front of the door at night. The card reader did not work into the pool area or into the side of the building door, which could potentially be a safety concern.

The hotel was older but kept up nicely. The staff were friendly. The rooms were roomy and clean. The hot tub was great but the pool looked like swamp water. We loved the outside deck. The fire pit was great. We even made s’mores! The location was wonderful to town and Mt. Rushmore

Very clean for a 2 star hotel. Staff is very nice. However, this property has no elevator so it’s not the most convenient for disabled especially if the handicapped rooms are booked.

Very good location. Clean room. Pillows uncomfortable and no comfortable chair in the room but would stay here again but on the first floor. No elevator so hauling everything up a flight of stairs was tedious. Breakfast was good. Staff was great!

Only thing that was bad was parking, inside the hotel was great. Their parking lot sucks, there isnt enough spots for how many rooms they have considering i and a few other people had to park at the gas station. Thankfully we didnt get towed but did get blocked in by a beer delivery truck for a while in the morning.

This hotel was very nice! Clean, comfortable beds. Nice pool and hot tub. Love the outside fire pit and seating. Walkable to downtown Hill City. We loved lost cabin brewery next door as well. Will definitely stay again.

The Mickelson Trail is right out back of the hotel. Road 30 miles on the trail and enjoyed a soak in the hot tub. Very comfortable bed, clean room, and a good breakfast. Only downside is the rooms facing the road are noisey so would recommend asking for a room on the back side facing the trail.

The front desk employees were super nice. I could tell they did some upgrades to the room, like new furniture, beds, TV and mirror in the bathroom, which were very nice, but the carpet needs replacing and the wallpaper was coming off the walls.

Mold in almost every room in the bathrooms and ceilings were all warped. One room had a huge red stain on the carpets. One room had a broken outlet by the sink faucet. Rooms overall not in good condition even though they say renovated. Wouldn’t let us get our money back and go elsewhere since booked through Hotels.com, but I’m sure there’s a work around. Very overpriced. Breakfast was not good. Would never return back.

Traveling with 2 grandchildren, so it was nice to have separate bedrooms, and a sitting/dining area. The place looks great at first glance but it's pretty shoddy worksmanship, which I guess is no big deal because it's not like we're living there. The bathroom was in need of a good cleaning. It was great to have separate AC units in the bedrooms, and they worked well. Front desk employees were wonderful - so friendly, efficient, and helpful.

The hotel was in a great location, with many amenities and restaurants nearby. For hikers and cyclist, the backside of the hotel has the Mickleson Trail that runs alongside it, for easy access. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only concern was a fresh red stain on the carpet and a couple of nerf darts left behind on the floor. Overall it had a good selection of breakfast food and a nice area to enjoy the mountainside to relax.

We were greeted by the friendliest staff member Connor. It is rare that you find such a great employee. He offered us cookies even. Helped us to get our room number when we had forgotten which room it was. Everything was great about the hotel except the mattress was a bit worn out making it not as comfortable as it could have been. Connor 5+ stars though.

Dream hotel, comfortable beds, pillows, linens, immaculate room, two queen beds, great shower and bathroom facilities. Easy walk to shopping and meals; we recommend the 1885 restaurant. Easy in and out of ample parking right outside our door. Close to attractions, like Crazy Horse Monument. No complaints here. This is the type of hotel you compare others too. Great free buffet breakfast with meat, eggs, waffle makers, ant the usual carbs. Great coffee and both apple and orange juice. Ice maker with plenty of crystal clear and odorless ice. Perfect AC. Wowza!

The room was great. The bathroom doesn't have a fan, so wallpaper is peeling. The faucet in the bath tub sprayed water out the bottom where it connects to the wall. When we went to check out, no one was at the desk, i rang the bell 3 times but no one came to help. So I had to put key cards on the desk and leave.

Nice convient area. THIN walls! Could hear a dog bark from inside a room down at the other end of the hotel! Also, they had a pergola patio thing on the outside of our room window. Not a big deal except the little party lights stayed on ALL night. Too bright in the room. I called the front which I had to use my cell phone to do because there wasn't a way call the front desk from what I could see on the hotel phone. Said they would 'take care of it'. Never did or couldn't. Same thing the next night. Not ideal obviously. Not sure why they don't correct that? I'm sure lots of people who have stayed in that room would've said something as well? Otherwise, breakfast was good. Good location

The staff was exceptional. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast staff were wonderful and shared their favorite things to do in the area and gave some great suggestions of places to visit with my grandchildren. They had two very wonderful interns working the front desk. We were always greeted with a warm welcome and they were ready to help with any questions we might have. There is a really nice walking path behind the hotel for walking your dog. A lovely fire pit to sit at during the evening. The hotel was very comfortable but more than that the staff (every single one that we encountered) were so very pleasant and seem to go out of their way to make our stay the best it could be.

What made our stay perfect was the incredible staff. They were friendly and worked very hard to make our stay was wonderful, they were able to give directions, make recommendations and give a quick reviews of places we wanted to visit. Fantastic staff and very attentive to their guest. They literally text us every day to make sure our stay is going well. Nobody does that. I was sceptical when I booked this place however I am thrilled with the accommodations. I would highly recommend this hotel. Very clean very comfortable rooms. Mattress was awesome!! Thank you 🙏

Liked the fire pit outback. Breakfast was good daily with hot choices. Very convenient to down town, easy walkable.

The Mickelson Trail is right out back of the hotel. Road 30 miles on the trail and enjoyed a soak in the hot tub. Very comfortable bed, clean room, and a good breakfast. Only downside is the rooms facing the road are noisey so would recommend asking for a room on the back side facing the trail.

We stopped here overnight to see Mt. Rushmore on a cross country trip and ended up booking another night here just to stay longer. Hotel was perfect, so clean and felt safe and just 15 minutes to Mt. Rushmore. Amenities were wonderful, breakfast was great, and the town it's located in is now one of our favorite places! There is a beautiful bike trail, walking distance to so many shops and restaurants as well. This was just supposed to be a pit stop in the night for us and is now the highlight of our trip. Thank you everyone we will be back!

Pool was well kept and clean, and the hot tub was even better! Cons: Noise level, heard too many outside conversations through my room. Almost all hotels have this issue though. Waited 10 mins in lobby trying to get checked in while other guests were trying to get their room switched due to no AC. My room had no functioning AC as well. Breakfast was limited in variety and once the food was gone it wasn’t refilled.

The property was clean. They do not have an elevator- so if you are on the second floor, you will have to carry all your luggage up a flight of stairs with a landing in between. The breakfast consisted of biscuits that were not fresh, appeared to be frozen and semi thawed and gravy not that great. Coffee not that good either. Parking is very tight and not that convenient. Dinning choices are not that great for fine dining. Expensive for the couple of choices available. Watch out for the the police by the Wind Caves, they have a speed trap where there is a sudden speed drop.

We were on the 2nd floor and knew there was no elevator. Not a big deal. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast very good. It was convenient to Hill city and walkable if you didn't mind a 10 minute walk. My one HUGE complaint was the air conditioner/heat pump unit built into the wall. It was horribly LOUD and it sounded like an old car that needed a new fan belt. It made this noise all night long which made falling asleep a challenge. This is my one complaint with older hotels with this design.

Daughter enjoyed the pool. Trailer parking was pretty limited but we made it work, but if there would have been another trailer needing a spot it might have been an issue. But honestly, no complaints at all. Would stay here again.
