AC did not work, the floor in the room felt damp and sticky, carpet was disgusting. Ice maker was not working.

Nice place to stay for a great price. Friendly staff, clean pool. The free coffee and pastry next door at Amarin was fantastic. This was our second stay at ABV, and I’m sure we’ll be back!!

We had high hopes when check-in was pleasant and we saw the vouchers for breakfast next door, but unfortunately we never made it until the coffee shop was open. We left before dawn because the property was rundown and filthy inside. Blood-stained towels, sand/hair in the tub, smudged up mirrors, cracked walls & floors, and dirty carpets are a few things that come to mind. The room key stuck terribly. The stay also lacked important promised amenities, as there was no ice machine, and the jacuzzi jets in our suite didn't work at all. When we informed the staff, they told us there was nothing they could do for us on both accounts. The jacuzzi tub was our reason for choosing this motel, so we were extremely disappointed. We won't be returning.

It's not yet luxury, but it is pretty close! Especially for what they charge, it is a great little place with an incredible bakery next door that provides free breakfast pastries and coffee! The pool is very clean, the neighborhood is nice, and they're very dog friendly which we love. Would absolutely recommend!

Place is getting a little worn, but nice and clean. Has a pool I didn’t use. I ended up staying an extra night because the first night my room’s AC wasn’t cooling and they didn’t charge me for that night. So I stayed another third night. The hotel was full that first Saturday night, so they couldn’t move me to another room with working AC till Sunday. This was during a heat wave that week. Coffee or tea and a pastry are included for breakfast next door at the coffee shop. Staff service is very nice.

It was made for small people or disabled. Difficulty for tall people. There is no coffee pot or coffee in the room. The coffee shop next door had delicious coffee and pastries but long lines. The pool was refreshing however. The location was convenient.

Love this place! It is my home away from home now. Very friendly staff, and walkable to great restaurants and shops. The pool is great as well!

The person in the office are nice easy parking lot and clean pool.

Pros - Great location. Nice, clean Pool. Cons - dated rooms, needs some TLC, Shower was horrible; hard to turn off & on, leaked the entire time, very little Hot water

Clean spacious rooms. Though the property needs updating, which our hist was very up front about, the beds were comfortable. We had a great night's sleep

The room is old and run down. Musty smell greeting you as you enter the room. Bathroom is very tired looking, cracked bathtub, mold on the ceiling, I'm scared to take a shower! It's not cheap for the price I paid, I thought it would be nicer but it's not 😞😞

Bathtub was filthy and bathroom floors were dirty. Bed spreads had cigarette burns (in a non smoking room no less) and furniture was very old. I made sure not to put my bare feet on the floor/carpet. Smelled bad and upon arrival had flies in my room

Bugs in room. Bathroom cracks in wall and tub. Carpet dirty and worn. Smelled awful. I was truly disappointed in your recommendation. Would never recommend this to anyone.

I understand this place is under new management and the staff are very friendly otherwise this would have been a zero star review. I was told they were remodeling the place in 5 room blocks each year. The great reviews MUST be from those rooms as the room I stayed in (101) was disgusting. I didn't have any other choices to stay for the pony swim so I stuck it out and I could tell that the bedding was clean. I could overlook the outdated furnishings, The mismatched sheets and the pillow cases not big enough for the pillows. I could even overlook the musty/old smell but the tile, the carpet the tile and the bathroom were just horrible. While replacing the carpet would cost money the rest of the place could be cleaned up with some good old fashion sweat equity. Someone could just go in and deep clean the grout and re-seal it. Actually deep clean around the edges of the entry door, wipe the hand prints off the trim and door itself, etc. The shower had mildew between the two pieces and the floor of the shower needed a good cleaning as it was stained with dirt. A REALLY easy thing is to put a cover on the absolutely disgusting ironing board hanging on the wall. It was FILTHY and hanging right there for all to see. The comforter and sheets had stains on them, they looked like old stains and looked like maybe grease as they were kind of black in color. The hairdryer had some sort of orange substance melted on the edge, I tried to clean it off but it was really on there.

Rooms were old and dirty. There was dust on everything and the floor was filthy. Really disappointed. Only good thing was the free coffee next door.

booked room with 2 beds and none were clean when I arrived so had to pay additional fee to get a room with king bed! went to take shower and water barely warm - using ONLY the hot water. Horrible air 'freshener' in room that stank up the room, even after we put it outside - fortunately did not trigger asthma attack in my sister. Not sure why it was there as room otherwise did not seem to smell bad. On the good side, room was spacious, fridge worked fine, bed comfy. Free breakfast at business next door was good. Supposed to be starting renovations, so hopefully issues are addressed

Basic! Rooms are small and somewhat cramped. DO NOT TRY TO FIT 4 PEOPLE IN A REGULAR 2 BED ROOM

The hostess was nice but the place was a little run down. The room we stayed in was originally part of a ranch style house that they cut up into sections. The toilet wasn’t attached to the floor, the vanity wasn’t attached to the wall and there were holes in the bottom of the walls where Sheetrock had washed or fallen away over the years.

Would not recommend. Very disappointed 😞. No hot water in the shower.

First room the light over the vanity kept going on and off by itself. The a/c would not cool the room off. We told the office the next morning and was told they’d check it out. We came back later that night and the a/c was no better, so we had a hot night. The next morning we again go to the office, was told the owner would check it when he came back. We checked in upon our return and was told there was a cancellation, so they moved us to the room next door. The a/c was like heaven, but the vanity light wouldn’t work. The next morning we let them know, which they did fix. We were told that the current owner recently purchased the property 3 months ago, and the plan is that they will be closing for the season and remodeling the inn over the winter. I can cut them some slack for that reason, but having to bag ur own trash and place your dirty linens outside the door on a chair, and they would replace them. Our room was not cleaned or beds made the whole time we were there. I would hope that these issues are corrected by next season.

Britney was kind and welcoming. Prices were fair considering the condition. There was not face plates on the electric outlets, the room was cold and took a few hours to heat up with the heater on full blast. But the bed was comfortable and it was a place to spend the night.

The room was clean, the room had an odor thinking it might been coming from the A/C

Customer service was great. I could change my reservation from two nights to one night with no problems. However, going into the room was very disappointing. One portable air conditioner that had cracks all around it showing to the outside. Walls and baseboards with cracks. Dirty walls . Shower and tub need improvement. Could not get any hot water in the shower. Bed had blacks in the bottom sheet. Had to use just one top sheet and try to sleep. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels etc in my 74 years. Unfortunately, this was the worst room I have ever seen.

Had to buy cleaner and plunger to clean the bathroom. Plunger not supplied. Needs serious renovation in the room. Very outdated, musty smell, needs paint and new tub. Tub was spongey to step into, maybe a leak underneath. Some type of glue on inside. Sink needs a trap as there were drain gnats. Limited rolls of toiletpaper. Needs carpet deep cleaned and corners vaccumed. May need some new elecrrical wiring as when ac came on there was a surge in the room. Staff was very nice and we liked the glowing stars on the ceiling.. Wifi is sketchy. Air conditioner is old and vents were broken. Had to wipe them down with bleach wipe. For the price we paid, expected better. Recommend staff but not the room.

The room was very old fashioned and did not look like the pictures online at all. Staff was horrible and gave my room away then wanted to charge me $10.00 dollars. I had the 2 double beds booked and she put us in a king size bed. I told her she could refund me and I would go somewhere else. The bed was hard as a rock. The only good thing was the breakfast and it came from next door you was able to go pick out a coffee and muffin.

The staff, owners, and complementary breakfast are great. They make you feel like you’re at your own home with their hospitality. Love staying here.

Service was stellar. The stuff couldn't have been more wonderful. The breakfast vouchers for the coffee shoppe next door was a sweet deal. Pool was maintained and clean. The rooms left something to be desired. Outdated and dirty to be honest. I would suggest investing into new beds, linens, towels and curtains. Maybe replacing the shower curtains as well. Just needs some TLC. But overall, love the location and charm of the Maddox Inn.

We enjoyed the stay. The location is great, just outside the downtown Chincoteague. The area is peaceful and tranquil. Although the hotel is old, it maintained pretty well, especially the plantations surrounding the hotel.

Amenities are basic and as expected. Nothing fancy, but the hotel is right on the "strip" and they give you breakfast access to the best pastry shop on the island. Easy in and easy out in a town where you will not spend any time indoors!

Walking distance to shops, coffee shop, restaurants, etc. Wonderful location to walk around town. Definitely will stay here again!

I was expecting more from this place, photos looked great but rooms seemed outdated, and two rooms had cigarette smell. Some towels had stains on them. And the “breakfast” was vouchers they gave you to go to the place next-door. Which was a drink and some bread or so. Not what I was expecting for breakfast. Only stayed one night and they charged the four days there, will not be returning there

The staff is super friendly and the cafe next door to the hotel is fantastic! They do their own roasting and baking. The rooms are outdated and will undergo renovations soon, according to the owner. One major concern: the towels in the bathroom. The towels were grimy and should have been replaced. Otherwise, can't wait to return after the renovation takes place.
