Super 8 by Wyndham Port Elgin

Rooms had a heavy cleaner smell, pool is old and in need of repair. Hot tub was out of service.

Indoor pool temperature was very cold.

Very family friendly, with outdoor and indoor pool, hot tub, sauna. Breakfast included made it convenient for the family. Location was great, between a walmart and boston pizza and easy access to other food chain restaurants. Beaches are from 10-30mins car drive away. Would consider coming here again.

Enjoyed swimming in the warm indoor pool. Quiet environment for restful sleep.

Hot tub ain’t work

This property was clean. The beds comfortable. They had a great breakfast! Friendly staff. My grandkids and I enjoyed the pools. It was not far to drive to the beach. One thing they could improve on is the cleanliness of the hot tub. Other than that it was a very enjoyable time!

Room was clean and quite. We were here 2 months ago and is why we chose it again but this time not the same. Hot tub not working, indoor pool this time was like doing polar bear dip and breakfast nothing more than continental. Last time there were eggs, sausage, bacon. Staff apologetic.

Conveniently located off of Highway 21 as you come into Port Elgin, short drive to the local beach, and 10 minutes to Southhampton. We had a pool-side room where the patio opened up next to the pool which was very nice to have. Outdoor pool was very warm and well maintained. There is an indoor pool as well, although the hot tub was not available to use and blocked off. Breakfast was good (and busy), nice to have bacon available. Beds were conformable. Overall a good stay.

Loved our stay here. Breakfast was great, pool was lovely and staff was attentive. Would absolutely visit again. Great for our family of 4.

We have stayed here before and it has gone downhill. The pools and hot tub had been closed by Public Health but no one told us at check in. The towels are worn and the rug felt damp and the room smelled. The breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.

Cleanest and most updated Super 8 we've ever seen. Staff at Check-In was extremely friendly and very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

We woke up to being bitten by bedbugs. Blood stains on sheets and dark marks on sheets. Had bed bug on pillow.They did refund us and offered to wash our clothes which we had them do. We threw away all or suitcases and went and bought plastic tubs to put our washed clothes in. This delayed our trip and was very inconvenient and extra cost. Would never stay here again.

Our check in was 3pm and we arrived even closer to 4pm only to find a back log of 3 families disappointed and upset that their accommodations were not ready and to come back an hour and a half later citing staff shortages for the cleaners and reception not showing up to work that day. I was told the same thing so came back after 7pm and still had to wait a bit. Finally was given a room only to find it damp, musty and smelly with a rear sliding door that was broken and would not lock securely. Totally unacceptable! Demanded a full refund and cancelation which the new, first day manager thankfully agreed to but like the others, our vacation time had been terribly affected and cut way too short. One customer said he had been going there since '95 and always had a a great time but was so upset at what it has become. Change in management or ownership? Not sure, but we were all left with a very poor experience and impression of this Super 8 at Port Elgin. Absolutely not recommended. Despite the great location (within 5 minutes of most attractions) , going somewhere else would be the best advice.

Our room was not clean. We had urine on both sides of our toilet that was dry. There were Pubic hairs stuck to the toilet. We went to make a coffee, and there was an old used KCUP still in the machine. The TV had something all over it, as well as the sliding glass doors had hand prints all inside the door. I complained and they said there was nothing they could do. How disappointing. We stayed there last year and it was not like that.

Nice location and staff but carpet was sticky and had a black residue. It desperately needed a clean. We also found a piece of glass on the carpet.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The pictures are the hairs in the bathtub. The very long black one in the bottom of the bathtub was particularly unsettling to see. As a result I did not use the shower. I advised the front desk on checkout. They aplogized but made no offer to compensate for the poor cleanliness of the bathroom.

Our room had a shirt dangling from the bathroom light from the previous gust, a glow stick on the boarder or the picture on the wall from the previous gust, carpet was dirty crumbs everywhere …..it looked like it was a party room from the previous guest and not cleaned properly. The one bed the sheets were stained. Our friends room which we booked as well was clean but no towels and my friend didn’t notice til she got out of the shower and had to use a hand towel to dry herself off. The reception lady when we first arrived was snotty. Wasn’t impressed

The place was not very clean. the carpets were dirty and questionable. room poorly cleaned. i did not dare to walk around barefoot in the hotel and my room. swimming pool and whirlpool bath also questionable.

Im traumatized. I really wanted to like this place but im never going back here or anywhere that has carpet. I had an antiety attack when i saw what i saw. My kids had a snack right before we were going out to dinner. Ive lived in places with carpet so i was very paranoid of them dropping food. We left about 20minutes later i came back to the room and i noticed 2 black spots on the ground between the beds. Seemed odd to me wasnt sure what it was, and so i got closer! And im not exaggerating when i tell you i kept repeating to myslef "dont freak out dont freak out dont freak out. 2 pieces of popcorn COVERED in ants, i couldnt make out what it was at first. And then i see lines of ants coming from under the beds! It was a night mare i instincly reacted and grabbed toilet papper doubled it up and scooped the mountain of ants and flushed it and sprayed all the carpet with bug spray. We did not sleep that night! I ran out of the hotel in the morning. If it was just me by myself i would have slept in my car that night but we have 3 young children so we did our best to just get through the night. Unfortunately this wasnt the only problem we had. When we first got in, the fridge wasnt working, the front desk employee came to check it and after like 10 minutes they realized it wasnt even plugged in. The A/C wakes you up everytime it turns on, it BLASTS and then stops, you start sweating buckets and then it BLASTs and you're freezing.. at one point the whole cover of the unit fell off.

Carpet was not clean. Patio doors damaged, could not be opened. Entrance door to building not secure. Electronic lock broken. Outside patio doors dirty. Room was not as shown in Expedia listing....not "Park view". Could not sit on patio, no privacy, parking lot.

The room was nice, the bed was comfortable but the pillows could be better. As soon as you put your head down it goes flat.

The room smelt bad on checkin. Was too small compared to the photos that are posted. Felt like I paid more than the room actually deserved.

Bed was extremely uncomfortable. No padding at all.

The room is a bit dated but was expected. However the A/C was cold but we had to turn it off as it was so noisy and rattling. So given it’s summer the room got progressively warmer and resulted in a terrible sleep

Although I have stayed at this location on several occasions, we didn't enjoy our stay in Room 141 on the first floor. We decided to splurge and get a king-size bed room. This room was clean and loved the heated floor in the bathroom as small as it was.However, being located right next to the laundry room while someone was doing laundry at 11:30pm on a Saturday night, listening to the cycle spinning was annoying. However, nothing compared to listening to the back side entrance door slamming in and out constantly throughout the late evening and starting again in the early hours while we were still trying to sleep. You didn't need your key card as the door wasn't latching. The noise constanty woke us up throughout the evening and started super early in the morning. If you're expecting a good night sleep, ask for a different room than 141. While checking out, I was never asked how my stay was, so I'm leaving my comments here. The kitchen staff were AMAZING, polite, courteous, attentive and helpful. Easy parking and loved that there was a Boston Pizza right next door.

Expected more for the price, especially based on reviews. Perfectly adequate hotel. Beds were comfortable and good noise insulation between rooms. Rooms are tired/beat up and not super well maintained. Our door would jam half way when opening due to improper installation of the door closer. Chair had tears, furniture was scratched. Rooms need a paint job. Our “patio” only had one chair. Picnic tables with umbrellas around the exterior of the outdoor pool area fence are nice. Smoking should not be permitted around the outdoor pool area. Fitness equipment is limited, but of good quality and in good condition. Breakfast was hot, which was a pleasant surprise. Lots of free parking. Check in was a bit of a gong show. One employee checking in a lineup of guests out the door, while other front desk employee sat outside on break. 2 employee eventually came in, but didn’t open 2nd computer, just looked over shoulder of first employee.

The room I booked were for 2 adult and 3 kids but very small for sleeping not a good option for family of 5

Breakfast menu was great but they only placed 10 pieces of each item out at a time so you had to wait a lot. Hot tub was closed. Rooms we’re dated

Street lamp lit up the room through the windows with no window covering, heavy trucks drove by all night. Heating fan face the bed right at the level of face so air is blown to one’s face constantly. Perfectly designed as a sleep deprivation chamber

The staff were very nice. There was an issue with the tv and Dan came all the way to our room to change the converter. Rachel was also very kind and professional upon checkout. Even the GM was pleasant!! They have a wonderful staff! The breakfast was pretty good too!!

I'm not at all happy with the early check in charge. We arrived around 1.30pm or so to check in. Our room was available and I was told I will be charged $30.00 for early check in. I asked that this charge be waived. I was under the impression from the check in staff the fee would not be charged to my stay. I have never before been charged this. Now I see on my bill I have been charged this fee. Not happy one bit and this will reflect on where we stay on our next trip to Port Elgin or anywhere else. It wont be a Super 8.

Great front desk staff!! Very helpful and pleasant. Not super impressed with the housekeeping. Garbage by tge back door was overflowing when we got there and did not get cleaned up until late the next day. Cigarette butts on the patio by our door were gross..we don't smoke. They were still there when we left and we stayed two nights. There was no kleenex in the bathroom and when I went to wash my hair in the morning there was no shampoo in the dispenser. Bed was comfortable and room was otherwise clean. Had trouble with the tv but the girl at the front desk came right away and straightened it out.

I booked a room for 6 people and my booking was confirmed however when I reached there, the receptionist said they cannot accommodate 6 people as it only has 1 king size bed with no extra bed. Upon showing her my booking confirmation from Expedia which showed 6 people, she said she is not sure how it is saying 6 people and who approved it. When asking to speak to supervisor, she said her manager is done for the day and cannot communicate until next morning. I had to reach out to Expedia support and I got Karim on the chat who was not helpful, as they kept saying that it is my fault whereas I booked through Expedia while choosing 6 people and hotel also confirmed my booking. I asked Karim to escalate the chat to their supervisor and then I got Dhristi who finally understood my concern and speak with the receptionist to resolve our issue. At the end it turned out the room contained two sofa beds and the receptionist was not aware of that and just wasted our 2 hours. Receptionist said she had no idea about it and she is new. This was a terrible experience to begin with and we were really disappointed with it. All the other amenities of the hotel were really good and full score for that but just getting this experience was enough for us to ruin the whole expeirence. Dhristi from chat support was able to offer 100 CAD Expedia points for getting such a bad experience which was good but I think hotel should train their staff well and atleast have a managerial level staff.

Hot tub wasn't working, landscaping was poorly maintained, housekeeping only exchanged. An item was left by our party which was confirmed by front desk personnel followed by no contact from the management team that was supposed to follow-up so we could recover it.

Our toilet wouldn’t flush and whenever we called the front desk for assistance no one ever answered. Staff was friendly but seemed lost and confused half the time, not sure if they were new hires. There was a bad odour in the hallways. The location of the motel was the highlight. I will say, based off the good reviews I read before booking, I expected the motel to be in better condition for the price we paid.

The hotel was clean and near shops. Also, included breakfast.

We stayed in the suite and it was excellent option for a short visit of the Bruce region. Conviently located to restaurants and Walmart and the lcbo

Best Location Food, Walmart, Wendy's, Popayees located perfectly. Beach just right next few minutes drive. Easy Parking, Indoor and outdoor pool Gym, Sauna. Good breakfast area and view.

Excellent stay. Breakfast was good for the three days and the pool was terrific. Had a slight issue with my tv but the front desk made every effort to get it rectified.

Clean, quiet and very nice staff. Room very comfortable. The breakfast included was one of the best hotel breakfasts we've ever had.

The breakfast area did not flow like it was choppy & people running in to each other. Sausage was over done. Not a lot of choices.

Breakfast area was overrun with only 1 person working the front desk and trying to maintain and supply the breakfast area. No food, no clean dishes. We had to go elsewhere and buy breakfast. The hotel is ok but expensive so poor value for the money.
