Weathervane Terrace Inn and Suites

The Balcony overlooked the parking lot of the hotel next door. The AC unit sits on the balcony, when it runs, it is hard to talk to the person beside you. The breakfast had no hot food. The elevator needs work. We got stuck in it twice.

Location is excellent. It’s located near all of the downtown shops and restaurants. Unfortunately this facility does not have an elevator for access to second floor rooms you must use stairs and most of them are narrow circular staircases. Very difficult to carry luggage up or down. I would not book this facility again.

This place was convenient to many restaurants, shops and the marina was close by. Our room was a Lake Michigan suite but it had an obstructed view of the lake due to the tall trees, but still good as it had all the conveniences needed for staying there being that it had a mini kitchen. The bed was comfortable and bathroom was a decent size and clean. One thing about the AC units, there was a motor that kept coming on and off due to apparently the humidity that builds up outside and has to drain and the motor runs consistently. That could be very annoying for the people who would be sleeping in the living room sofa bed. I guess that’s normal when I spoke to the desk about it. There was a continental breakfast offered and convenient to grab something in a hurry. There is a hot tub on the third floor of one of the buildings that really does not get advertised, very quiet and nobody in there. It also had a pool which we spent an afternoon by, but the water was not heated even though the brochure says it is. It’s overall a pretty area and short walk to the lighthouse and beach. It also has many restaurants nearby in a short distance to walk to. Many different shops to walk to and the marina nearby with an amphitheater with entertainment going on. Also, we ate at the weathervane next to the property and the food was delicious and had a great view.

It used to be a beautiful place! Old and rundown, no elevator, and needs updating!

We reserved a room with two beds, a wonderful view, and in the building with the elevator (spouse is handicapped). The elevator was down, and we were moved to the ground floor with one bed and no view. The room had heavy cobwebs in the corners, inside the lampshades, and sliding door area. We were supposed to stay three nights but only stayed two nights. We weren't offered a partial refund or anything. The area around the Weathervane is lovely. It is walkable if you have no mobility limitations.

The hotel is in an excellent location. I feel like it just needs a little TLC...pool was not filled with water, glass was cracked in main lobby window area, glass table in same area was very dusty/dirty, one of the mattresses in our room needs replaced, but overall room was clean and price was fair.

We stayed here many years ago and thought it would be a good place to stay in Charlevoix. We were very disappointed. The hotel is in need of renovation. The bathroom was ridiculous! The whirlpool tub had no step to get into it and was hip high! Needless to say we did not use it. The bathroom sink was tiny. The toilet room had cracked tiles and I found a used cotton puff by the toilet. The doors to the balcony were incredibly hard to open. I had to have my husband open them. The windows were dirty. The view was nice but not what we expected. We were supposed to be on the third floor with a great view but the elevator was broken and I have a bad knee and could not do 3 flights of stairs. Thus we were given a room by the broken elevator. The staff was very courteous however. The cleaning staff said the elevator is often broken. The best thing about the hotel is the proximity to the shops and restaurants.

This place is dirty and run down. Spider webs and dirty windows. Weeds growing out if gutters. The pool was gross. Green algae on the walls and floor. The breakfast was very basic. The coffee was so weak. I have been to Charlavoix for many years. Not sure why they would let the property go like this.

No elevators. Stairs to upper floor were narrow & spiral. Not easy for people with mobility issues. Spiders nest in room

Carped dirty. The property needs some care. Shows it age. When we arrived I was told the elevator was out of order. I had called and asked about elevators for the room we were reserving as my wife recently had knee surgery. After expressing the problem they did get us a room on ground floor and took &12 off the premium room we had reserved.

The view of Lake Michigan from the belcony was very nice with nice sunsets. The screen door needed to be replaced due to tears and holes, so, we could not leave the double window doors open with just the screen closed to get fresh air or we would have had more bugs in the room. There was already many spiders, which should have been removed during room cleaning. The carpet was discussing. My husband wore his white socks when walking in the room and the bottom of them turned black rather quickly. For the price they charge for the rooms they can afford to thoroughly clean the carpets frequently.

The Weathervane has a great location. The rooms are older but comfortable. They could do a little better job cleaning. There were cob webs in almost every corner and in the light fixtures,

The staff were all amazing! The first room I was given had black mold growing on the ceiling tiles & water dripping out of the them from the air conditioner. I went to the front desk & they gave me another room. This room had been updated, it was better, but could have used more. They had replaced most of the old drop ceiling, but not the bathroom. Moisture=mold growth. For what they charge per night, they should be doing more than the basics. I know spiders are attracted to the area but have the staff sweep away the webs on the balconies & entrances so your guests can enjoy the outdoor spaces without worrying about spiders. Maybe invest in pest control. I use this at home & only need it twice a season. The breakfast was not even worth my time. I have had much better choices at much cheaper establishments. They know their location is amazing so why bother investing in the property, I guess. On the flip side. Amazing location. You can walk everywhere! The beds were comfortable. Some rooms have been partially updated. The kitchenettes are nice to have for making your own breakfast. EVERY staff member I encountered was kind & courteous, even when others were yelling at them for the conditions. I imagine they have to deal with so many angry customers. It would be great if the owners had to be subjected to angry customers day in & day out. Maybe they would care about their property(ies) a little more. I am sorry, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I cared about.

Did not realize the property was so old when booked. First room was not clean ...the 2nd room was better but for the money no. Wooden bar in slider as lock was broken, Curtain loose. Dust on the microwave...toilet not clean. Bottom of shower embedded dirt that probably won't clean. Would not return.

The room was great, but, not cleaned thoroughly. Not dusted. Microwave dirty. Breakfast food and area, not goo. Stale food and dirty.

Grounds and rooms are all in the need of an update. The layout and views of the lake are great but my guess is that the furnishings have not been updated since the 80s/90s. However, still charging high rates. It has so much potential!

The Weathervane is a charming hotel in a perfect location. It's just a few steps over the drawbridge into downtown Charlevoix. There you'll find shops and restaurants, as well as the beautiful city marina and an outdoor Amphitheater. We loved the layout of our unit which included a queen bedroom, a family room with full kitchen, wood burning fireplace, and a deck with a view of Lake Michigan. Our stay also included a continental breakfast in the dining room adjacent to the hotel lobby that had a nice view of the city center. Of course most importantly, the bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. Highly recommend!

We had a room with a fireplace and lake view. It was wonderful. Ate at Stafford’s and our meals were delicious. Best seafood chowder! Then we relaxed and had a fire in our room. Perfect one-night getaway. We love the Weathervane and will be back.

The bathroom vanity had limited space. View was very nice of Lake Michigan.

Overall the location is great, the beds and cleanliness is good. The rooms are big and the tv is tiny. My only complaint is the sound proofing between rooms connecting doors, you can hear everything and it is noisy , I had to switch rooms

No elevator, steep stairs. Very loud window ac unit. Beds were good.

It was in walking distance to so many areas! We enjoyed our time and staff was really nice!

Service was horrible, requested early check-in well in advance, as we had a wedding to attend that afternoon, was advised they would accommodate, upon arrival we were told room wasn't ready and they didn't know when it would be, that check-in was at 4p. (Wedding was at 3p) Poor customer service, poor communicators, I would be embarrassed having these employees represent my business in this manner. After we advised there was another hotel nearby with a room available, they advised they had an upgraded room ready (suite) however it had 1 bedroom and pull-out couch, we are a family of 4. Due to time constraints we elected to take it.......the room was not clean, food was all over the floor, the shower was SO dirty and not to mention it was unlevel and honestly a bit unsafe. They charged us $340 for this room, I stayed in WAY NICER rooms in downtown Chicago for less then this. WE WILL NEVER EVER STAY HERE again, and please do yourself a favor and choose from several other hotels in the area. Quality is extremely poor, almost as bad as the customer service and definitely the pricing. Shame on me for staying.

Staff was very friendly and ready for our arrival. Room had easy access, convent parking. Inside our room was very clean, as were all areas around the property.

We stayed in a studio with a full kitchen, two queen beds and a large patio. The room was dated but clean. My recommendation is to replace the cheep flat pillows, fix the bathroom fan so it vents the room and replace the horribly scratched teflon pans. The breakfast was waffles, cereals, breads, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, coffee and juices. The hotel is hard to beat because of its location. You can walk to everything and it has lots of parking. The staff is top notch and friendly.

Property is a little outdated but uber clean & the staff was very nice & efficient! I would definitely stay here again!

There was one young man that helped us with a portable heater…there was NO HEAT in our room. Sorry I didn’t get his name.

Check in was wonderful. Its akways nuce after a long car ride to be geeeted with a nice friendly person with a great attitude. I brought my fishing pole to try the channel by the hotwl and the maintence guy not only pointed my in the right direction and gave me some suggestions he also let me use his net! A complete stranger. That doesnt happen anymore. Will definetly stay there again, every time i go to charlevoix!

Check in was quick and easy! Room was comfortable…could have used a little TLC like dusting on lamps and headboards. Asked to have room serviced and all we got was towels. Had to call a second time and then the issued was resolved!

Our stay was fine. Early in the season, so there were not many cars in the lot. The location and the town were perfect, everything was walkable.

Very nice property which was within easy walking to the town for plenty of shopping, restaurants and activities. Also, right near the canal for nice morning/evening walks.

Perfect location to walk downtown, comfortable quiet room with a view of the lake. Would recommend and stay again. The Weathervane restaurant was absolutely fantastic. Minimal interaction with hotel staff, but pleasant and very friendly.

This dated property was charming and clean. I think that they are making improvements and we enjoyed our stay. The continental breakfast could have more protein offered. Mostly breads, Cereal and yogurts. One day they had hard boiled eggs. We would stay again. We love this area!

The hotel needs updating. Seems they have done some things but other things are just outright gross like the thick cottage cheese dirty ceiling and the outdated dank bathrooms. At minimum out in normal height toilets. The breakfast buffet was substandard and we walked right out and paid for breakfast elsewhere. Not horrible but a terrible value for the money spent.

Suite is small but nice & clean. We didn’t know there was continental breakfast until the second day! Or a hot tub! Breakfast was very good. I hope improvements continue to be made, the hotel is a historic gem!
