Russ Hill Hotel

I arrived in the early hours of the morning due to going straight after work. I was just staying for one night before heading to a family funeral. I drove around the car park for 20 minutes before giving up and just put in the car right outside the front door. The car park was absolutely chocker. I understand that this is used for parking for the airport but I really think there should be some actual parking for people staying at the hotel. The hotel is okay good for the Price staff friendly the problem was the shower. It was a dribble. The room had no window, but I had chosen to have a room with no window as I knew I would just be getting my head down for a few hours. The room itself was fine. They should maybe dust the fan occasionally as when I turned it on I got a face full of dust. Initially I had thought that if this place was any good next time I fly from Gatwick, I might leave the car there. But no, I would not stay there again as lack of parking puts me off.

This was a last minute booking for an overnight before our flight. You could tell it was once a grand old place but is now a bit unloved bit for what we paid it done the job. Staff were fine and free parking! It only took 10 mins to get to the airport so very convenient. No idea what the food was like as we did try any.

The only downside to our stay was the parking. The hotel hosts long-term airport parking on site, and it was jam packed when we arrived.

Pros The location is quite , the facility was nice and cozy, The room was clean, Cons No usb chargers in my room. No Wi-Fi you have to buy it for $9/night. It is far from the city , No shops or restaurants around it . If you drive it is no problem.

Pros. Plenty of free parking, clean, restaurant and bar, friendly staff. Cons. Plane noise, room with coach parked immediately outside of room window.

Arrived late around 10pm and there was nowhere to park, but the receptionist moved her car so we could park there

Be careful as the transfer to the airport is not free , you have to make your own way and it cost £25-30 each way!

The highlight of my stay was the amazing 3 course buffet dinner for £12.50. Nice location, lots of comfortable common areas, large beautiful garden, Clean rooms, nice location for Gatwick airport. Negatives were dirty general toilet near the reception and about £10 per day additional for WIFI access in rooms but free WIFI in communal areas.

I called the hotel from the airport 5 times in 30 mins, every time phone was either not picked up, or picked up and hanged up right away. When I got at the hotel, the free WiFi advertised on the website, was not free.

Only problem was I booked this hotel because details say it has a lift it doesn’t have a lift

If you want a place off the beaten track, this one's for you. Clean and tidy, friendly staff and a good bar. What's not to like?

Check in was a little long. Service from barman and restaurant staff was good. Fast fresh food, nicely cooked. I did notice a tray with glasses and rubbish left in the corridor for over a day

This was our second stay. We’d stayed the previous weekend and decided to book in again as we were working in the area for a second weekend. The staff here are fantastic especially the ladies on reception and the man running the bar (weekend of 15th September). So welcoming and friendly. The rooms are spotlessly clean. The two we stayed in had recently been decorated. The showers had a good supply of hot water with the showers working perfectly well. If you’re looking for a posh, snobby hotel then don’t stay here. The Russ Hotel is a diamond in the rough and the reasonable room prices reflect this. The food in the bar is good. Great choice and very affordable. We are working in the area next year and will definitely book here again. The Russ hotel provides good, clean, value for money. There is also a huge car park where you can book long stay parking which is obviously ideal as you are located near to Gatwick. It’s the little things that matter the most to us and if you too are looking for friendly people, a clean environment, a hot shower, tasty food and a comfortable bed all at great prices, then stay here.

Good, clean room. Helpful staff. My stay was Saturday night: a lot of people and quitr noisy.

The hotel itself was impressive as you walked in. Staff at reception were very nice. The room itself was very dated. The windows were not good, we thought they were still open when shut, they let so much noise in. The curtains were hanging off the rail so we were unable to close them properly.The shower curtain was mouldy and the bathroom smelt bad as a result of that. The mattress on the bed was so hard and uncomfortable. The hotel itself was so noisy even through the night, all in all we had a really bad sleepless night. Would not stay here again.

There were lots of little bugs on two of the beds and the hotel was quiet tired looking

The stay was good considering we missed our flight and this was the cheapest hotel we could find near Gatwick airport. My only problem was that they could have checked the room for cobwebs as there was one near the bed with a spider in it.

Clean, well appointed room, lovely internal common areas of hotel. Convenient Pub on site. Tired exterior and gardens.

The room was dirty, they didnt clean it. We found stinky socks and stincky underwear in the room .. Bathroom dirty, no shampoo, the box of shampoo was mouldy and stinky. We ask reception for body shampoo or anything to use they said tgey dont have.. it is like 1 star hotel.. i couldnt sleep because of the heat i couldnt open the window.. I would never go back again.. i could find a chesper and better hotel in that area.. Room full of Spider Smell of the carpet like they didnt change it or coean it for years. I needed 20 minutes to adjust with smell.. was so bad

The room that we were staying in was so smelly, it smelt like cigarette smoke throughout the room and in the hallways as well. Our clothes and all of our belongings smell like this room now. Our room did not have any windows or balcony doors, so the room had no ventilation whatsoever and it was so humid, stuffy and hot in the room, with a small fan to provide little to no relief. Lucky we were booked on the ground floor, as there were no lifts at the property. The fire alarm went off twice in one night and there was no information on what to do, we thought our room was malfunctioning, but turns out it was everyone in our section. We didn’t know if we had to evacuate, and staff didn’t tell us what to do. If you book through Expedia, make sure you double check if your breakfast is included, because we paid for breakfast, then I checked my booking and it was actually included. Grateful they returned the money, but this should be something that should be checked in advance. We were only provided one roll of toilet paper, and other guests found it difficult to receive any additional amenities such as a towel so we did not bother asking for an extra roll as we were already checking out that day.

Basic room at basic price. No beside cabinet even though plenty of room and no mirror in bedroom. Bed was comfortable.

I stayed here for one night as I had an early flight from Gatwick airport. I would not recommend this hotel. The only benefit is that it's about a 8 minute drive to the North Terminal of Gatwick airport, so if you have an early morning flight you are close. The hotel has no air conditioning and the window only opens about 10 cm. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and felt like it had just springs, no cushioning. The rooms were old and had carpet that was not maintained. You can hear the planes takes off in the morning, which I was aware of, and I wore ear plugs which worked fine for me. I would not stay here, pay a bit extra and stay somewhere half decent.

Avoid room 214 in summer!! Impossible to sleep as so hot. Wish we had paid more to go to a different hotel. Such a shame as lovely people and room was spacious.

The bed wa rather small to be called a double bed as advertised. The bathroom space is too confined.

Rooms are very small and very hot. Secondary glazing had been installed but was not sound proofed. Weeds grew within the original frames. Bath was tiny with very high sides and no rails to help you get in or out. As a short person it was a struggle. When we arrived there was piles of dirty laundry pukes outside the door so. The corridor which remained until after we went to bed. I tripped over a packet of toilet rolls. Clearly a health and safety and fire risk . Beds were uncomfortable and had clearly seen better days , the mattress needed replacing you could feel the springs. The outside of the hotel was very run down. Food was medocre, pub didn’t open until 6pm and the restaurant was closed. . On the plus side the staff were friendly and helpful and everywhere was very clean . Great proximity to Crawley and Gatwick if you are needing to stay nearby, was greeted at Reception with a friendly smile and welcome, with quick check in process. Finding my room was fun on the ground floor - was sign posted well, just a long corridor of twists and turns which made me smile! Had a no window room which is absolutely fine if you are arriving just for an evening, it didn't bother me at all, there is a sky light with a blind, and it meant i slept well. Couldn't hear any noise from the room. There is a restaurant on site which I wish i'd known beforehand. Parking for one night was a little harder to find as lots of people were parking up and leaving them there during their holidays away, so only a couple of spaces free close to the hotel when I arrived. Easy check out, room spacious, TV, tea and coffee, plenty of towels. I'd happily stay here again and will actively look for it again if I need to be close by

Family Room is very spacious, clean and nice

I had a single room as did my friend they were both excessively hot with no fans, there was a unit somewhere close by that kept both of us awake all night - rooms 304 and 306. The staff did get us fans but none of our windows opened. My friends toilet seat was cracked, and she had no TV remote. So sorry would not recommend if a single room was required

Russ Hill Hotel was perfect for what we needed, a place to stay that was close to Gatwick the night before we flew. It’s certainly no glam, fancy, modern, minimalist hotel, but is spacious, clean rooms and does exactly what you need the night before a flight. Check in was a bit chaotic as not enough staff on shift (10pm) with one poor guy having to do everything. Whilst there was a lady with him, she had apparently finished her shift and was trying to go home, whilst having some manager on the phone giving her grief about something. Not a great first impression, especially with the one guy who was on shift, was having to deal with multiple problems at once, with an endless queue of random folk popping up to ask for stuff, complain or just ask questions, all in addition to those actually trying to check in. Need more staff here, especially at night. However……once we finally got to our room (Family room) it was exactly what we hoped for. Big, spacious and clean with a decent bathroom. Exactly what we needed for the 4 of us. Bar was also open till 10:30pm (some hotels shut way too early) , so that ticked a big box too, with the Barman being very helpful whilst juggling everything himself. Easy check out the next day (much better experience) and Only 12 mins to Gatwick by car. Saved a lot of money vs some of the other airport hotels, so would stay again (check in experience aside).

Great place to stay, my tv didn’t work in my room spoke to a lovely person named Hazel, from reception, she resolved the problem by moving me next door and made sure my tv worked. Thank you .

Great stay however the fire alarm went off at 5am on Saturday scaring my kids and there was no clear Fire Marshall telling us what was going on. I had to go into reception to find out

The room I had was a single it was perfect for me nice and quiet I slept like a baby. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If your looking for a stress free break I would highly recommend The Russ Hill Hotel five stars.

When we checked in it was late 11pm they gave us our room key we went to our room opened the door and there was already a couple in the room who were in bed and very shocked when we opened the door, gave them a fright!! We then had to go back to the reception to ask for another room we were given one it was a hot night the room didn’t have a window!!

The property and facilities were good, with plenty of easy parking. Food & drink reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly. HOWEVER - We had booked a double room and were given a twin, this didn't bother us too much as we were only staying 1 night. The room was hot but we had a fan. My husband fell sleep about 10.15pm and I was sat on the bed with just a towel over me watching tv when I heard a key in the door and a foreign guy (Scandinavian looking) popped his head round the door, saw me sat on the bed with just a towel over me and said 'oowww sorry, sorry, sorry' and swiftly disappeared. We were both tired so propped a chair against the door but didn't really relax until midnight when we knew check-in was over. When we went down to breakfast the next morning they didn't have our room down for breakfast. We explained what had happened during the night and the waiter went off to reception to check we had paid for breakfast and on his return explained there had been a mix-up with the rooms and we had been given the key to the wrong room at check-in. When mentioning it to reception they apologised and were going to make a note to switch our room but we said we were only staying 1 night, it was more of a security issue that 2 keys had been given out to the same room and in a case of a fire they would not have been able to account for everyone safely and our experience could've been a more terrifying experience for an older couple for family with youn children.

It's only fair to start with the approach to the hotel. It sits about 5 miles south of Redhill, and is situated on a country lane. Top tip: check in early (while it's still daylight), because if you go later (in the evening when it's dark), you'll probably here banjos. If you do; drive/paddle faster. Seriously though, the country lane in the dark can be a little intimidating the first time. My initial room was upstairs in the middle of a heat wave. Consequently the room was way too hot and I have difficulty with stairs, so I asked to change to something on the ground floor. They were able to find me a single room with the world's smallest WC/shower. Although one can't sit straight on that loo because the sink is in the way, the shower was excellent. The hotel is about half the price of others in the local area and looks quite dated, but I wasn't there for Instagram pics. I just wanted a base for the weekend. There were fresh towels and soap for me, and the room was out of the way of the foot traffic, so it was quiet. Decent sized TV on the wall, but I didn't get to use it, as my itinerary was full. Breakfast is served from 7 - 9am and costs around £11 There is also a bar, but again I didn't get to use it. Lots of parking out front. Even though the hotel was full, I was able to find a space for the car. The girls behind the counter are delightful and very helpful. All in all, I was there for a specific purpose, and it suited my needs perfectly.

Road leading to hotel said it was shut, which it wasn't. That's after following the diversion sign and doing another 4 miles unnecessarily. Lane leading up to the hotel at night was very difficult to see the hotel entrance as no lights on at the entrance and no light over the name sign of hotel to give you an indication that you have arrived.

I was enjoying with my family 2 nights at the hotel,breakfast was really nice,we had plenty of options to choose from,afordable too.The only one thing I didn't like was the sounds of the airplane starting at a very early morning,otherwise everything was perfect.

Great location if you have a car from Gatwick

Very basic accommodation in a building that could use some investment but it’s clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and it was exactly what I needed it to be in terms of convenience for the airport. If you’re staying more than one night, you need to be ok with plane noise.

We booked at the last minute due to a disaster with camping in rotten weather. Got a great deal with breakfast which was lovely. Would stay here again if we are in the area

Definitely not recommend for more than 1 night due to noise from planes in & out of Gatwick. Booked as had flight from Gatwick 2 days later. Stayed for 2 nights and room was not cleaned on morning after check-in. Carpet in hallways dated. Breakfast quality, poor for price….sausages dried out.

Perfect for what we needed a nights stop before flying! The buffet food was priced reasonable and tasted absolutely delicious. Definitely do it again

Needs new mattresses had very little sleep as very hard mattress we had dinner in bar area that wasn’t very good either was frozen food to microwave to plate staff are lovely though.
