Smiths At Gretna Green Hotel

Hotel was good, ended up with free breakfast which was a nice surprise. Main hotel was very modern and looked nice. We stayed at the bendsmoor cottage. Only complaints where the HVAC made a noise constantly whether it was on or off and the carpet needs renewed.

Stayed at one of their cottages which was really nice and spacious.

Convenient location off motorway. Spacious hotel and accommodation at reasonable rates. Bar and meal choices good. Would use again as stop off to Scotland and local tourist attractions.

What a lovely hotel and stones throw from the famous blacksmiths shop and gift shop. Great service, lovely food. Lots of happy couples enjoying their special days. Yes loads of weddings. It's Gretna what do you expect.

Room did not have a working TV - asked to switch and we were accommodated. Restaurant, although largely empty, was not available for dinner as kitchen resources were dedicated to a wedding function elsewhere on the property. Hotel staff did help us book dinner at a sister hotel. Some lights in our room did not work. Overall, we expected much better for the price charged.

We had an amazing time in the Cottage it was beautiful, spacious & very clean & literally across the road from the wedding venue & the hotel is also 2 minutes walk away.

Rooms were awful, smell from bathroom, damp on ceiling, dirty marks on walls, stains on carpet, felt so dirty, couldn't wait to travel home to get a showrr. no idea how this hotel is 4*

Room was cold, hotel was cold, bathroom was dirty. Wall near towel radiator was filthy with dirty watwr marks all down it. Not worth the money for value. Food was ok and staff were friendly. Its basically had a facelift on the front but is still in the 80s inside with ni working lift either.

Checked in, friendly staff, but the bedroom had a really terrible smell. The hotel was fully booked, so the staff arranged for us to have a room at the sister hotel round the corner, which was excellent. Cannot fault the service, very good.

It’s was ok - friendly staff, room needs some maintenance works, toilet roll holder coming off the wall, paint chips. Room only had 2 plug sockets which are not located from the bed.

Price could not be argued with, room was clean and tidey, you get what you pay for and i could not complain.

With the exception of the initial check in - I found the staff to be extremely un trained and un focused - the bar staff spoke to me as why are you stood here - when clearly I want to order a drink and food ,. They then ALL proceeded to investigate why the coffee machine wasn’t working … I wanted a wine and the other man at the bar wanted a whisky !! So I couldn’t understand the focus on the coffee machine .. after my meal I was asked if I wanted to see the desert menu - it never materialised so I just left .. I over heard the breakfast staff letting another couple know the Buffett was going to close but no body bothered to speak to me !! the room was grubby - stained walls in the bath room and bedroom - the cleaner doesn’t like edges of the floor - no water in the room . The picture have been taken down and just left with screws in the wall . The room was very cold as no body had switched the radiator on .. On numerous occasions the staff were huddled in groups and just turned their back on waiting customers - even myself . This is the second time I have complained about a dirty room - but they didn’t seem that interested . I suppose if they fill the hotel with non returning wedding guests why would they be concerned with a single visitor who uses the hotel regularly for a global company on business - .. You also can’t go anywhere around the hotel without the smell of weed !! The second floor stunk in the corridor -

Stayed here for 1 night in a family room. The room was very big, plenty of space. Double bed was huge but it was actually 2 singles joined together which was great. There were bunk beds located in the room for kids. Only idsue was for some reason we could not get any sound from the tv in the kids area which was annoying as they had to watch the other tv in our bed. We went elsewhere for dinner but breakfast was amazing, great choice of food and kept being repelnsihed. If your stayimg in Gretna I would definitely consider this hotel, its a few £ more than others in the area but in my opinion its worth it

We were very comfortable during our stay the bed was ok but the bathroom was tired. The air conditioning was excellent and the breakfast was ok the coffee was not to my taste but plenty of choice to help yourself to.

Nice hotel, had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Room was nice but needed some attention to detail. Fire in the room wasn't working or i couldn't find the switch! Door to the hotel corridor slammed on the second floor, so heard it every time someone used it. Some damping on the frame would solve the problem.

The hotel staff were friendly and check in was nice and easy. The room was clean, comfortable and great for the kids with having the bunks. My only issue was a terrible nights sleep due to being located just above what I think was the air conditioning so we had the constant sound of fans and drips all night. Could have complained but the kids were fast asleep and didn’t want to uproot them.

Overall the hotel is nice, room is clean spacious and the heating works. Went for dinner and choose the festive menu. This was very reasonably priced but slow service towards the end of the meal. Breakfast had a great selection but just a bit cold. The only negative for the service was the receptionist at check out. There was no smile or thanks. Just a 'thats you checked out', we tried to make a small joke about the refurb they have planned and said ask for plugs/usb's near the beds. She said nothing but a blank look as if to say IDGF.

Firstly the room we were given had a smart tv but didn’t work, it was two single mattresses put together badly and was not comfortable at all and the window frame was damaged meaning the window would not fully close meaning it was letting in cold air and we could hear the motorway quite loudly. We were eventually moved to another room which was smaller and had no smart tv, the place is a bit tired and service overall wasn’t great, it’s a shame as the reviews here are very good, our experience was not, also the food and drink prices are very high. They are advertising a refurbishment of the rooms, this should solve most issues.

I have stayed here a few time now, rooms are fab, heating in the room was perfect as I hate a hotel room which doesn’t have great heating. Hot chocolate, tea, coffee and biscuits and a bottle of water provided. I would highly recommend this hotels to my friends and family. Staff were lovely too.

Easy to find, friendly check in. Room was ok - I was just there for one night on business in the local area. Ate in the restaurant which was fine and breakfast was good.

Really nice staff and handy for a wedding (5 mins walk). Beds are comfy and despite being beside the M6 and in a roadside room, I slept well. Bathroom was in need of refurbishment.

The Hotel was lovely would say there again just not much to do around the area

The hotels room was a tad rundown for a 4* hotel,but is been renovated next yr but the rest of the hotel is excellent and food is gorgeous I don't like fish much but I ate fish and mussy peas for 3 nights as I've never had batter so light thin and crispy even after a dose of vinegar I don't eat chips so I asked for extra peas no problem at all. Breakfast nice too especially the poached eggs rich and creamy egg yoke,plenty to see and a half decent charger for my car too.overal I'm going to revisit after the refit next year as it's worth the 300mile round trip for 3 nights or so .staff very friendly and can't do enough for you thankyou all smiths hotel
